  • Found a central AC air handler leaking water all over basement floor. Found plugged filter. Found evaporator coil pan full of water. Drain was completely clogged. Had to free up drain to fix the problem.

    Nice to see service techs that don’t rip people off. Thanks for that and the video.

    Thank you man! Having this same issue. Changed the filter and it improved for a few days but happened again today and checked the drain pipe and water is barely coming out. Will repair this weekend thanks to this video - saved me a few bucks and made me confident to handle it!

    The clog is 99% of the time at the end of the line because that is where light and critters and things gain entry. Aside from your random spore that gets caught in the condensate trap and has just the right amount of heat to reproduce, it's always at the tip. Just the tip.

      Test with water. Like a Poland spring bottle. Pour from trap or pan throughout.

    I just found a nice surprise. My air handler is in the attic. Looks to have the same issue as what to showed here. Question, is it normal to have water below the coils? Minimal water ok? E are in Alabama so it’s pretty humid here. But I’m definitely going to clean out that drain pipe. I’m positive that thing is clogged.
    Oh and I get to replace some of the ceiling drywall as a bones….hehe

    • @hvacotj
      @hvacotj  2 года назад +2

      No you shouldn’t have any water below the pipe. It may be clogged and or run some water through so make sure there is not a small crack. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. I have a water leak only when the unit is off. When the AC is on, no water leak at all. I had a plumber clear the primary line and the P-Trap was replaced.
    I will check the filter tomorrow to ensure it is not clogged and dirty.
    what does it say to you if the water leaking happens only when the unit is offline? A cracked in the unit drain pan?
    Thanks!

    • @hvacotj
      @hvacotj  Год назад +1

      It can be. Also check the level of the air handler.

      @@hvacotj Thanks for taking the time to reply. The filter looks clean, not clogged. The coil is not icy. One observation: When the unit is ON, there is no water that I can see coming out of the air-handler into the PVC and down the drain. When the unit is OFF, I can feel the water drained. Is that expected? If so, what happens to all of the water in the system when the unit is ON?
      Thanks again!

      @@galg3967sounds like the drain doesn’t have a p trap or an improperly installed p trap. And the negative pressure from the blower won’t let the water drain until it shuts off and stops blowing air.

    First cold night and everything shut down. Ecobee off ,fuse is good, and nothing happening breakers are still on. Opened electric furnace panels to find water everywhere. Dripping from ac coils? On the the air handler and down onto some electronics in the bottom of the furnace. Someone's gonna love this call! Why would I have water dripping from the coils? This is a double wide btw.

    • @hvacotj
      @hvacotj  2 года назад

      That’s weird unless it was in cooling mode by mistake and system froze. If it has a coil? Electric backup heat air handler? Does it have a float switch? That would kill the power on Ecobee. Remove the water from pan and restart system in heat. That’s what I can say without looking at it. I know the double wide usually has package unit AC, but just remove the water

      @@hvacotj it is a electric furnace and has a 3 ton smart comfort heatpump outside with the coils inside the furnace. It was I'm cool mode because I turned it on while cooking. It was hot. But I pulled the float switch out and there was no water. I even tried setting the float switch all the way down manually to see if ecobee would turn on. Nothing.
