    I love your unboxing videos - they always give me a delicious nostalgia hit. Airfix figures were a huge part of my childhood. Matchbox figures first appeared when we were on holiday - my dad went out to get a newspaper one morning, and came back with a box of British and a box of German troops each for my brother and I. He'd seen them in the newsagents shop, and reckoned they were nicer than the Airfix ones, which honestly, they were.
    Thank you. 👍👍👍

    Hi Jerry,
    Just watched your pre-unboxed ( to save time! ) unboxing of all the stuff you got ( even though they were unboxed already)
    You have the right sense of humour to carry it off! A good presentation.
    I then watched the next presentation in which you posed the question: " Were the Guards sets really pink? "
    I remember well going into Woolworths sometime in 1959/1960 and buying the Colour Party and buying The Guards Band the week after.
    First they were both Pink. Second, each cost 2/- ( Two Shillings ). Two Shillings in today's U.K. money is 10 pence ( one tenth of one pound! )
    Two Shillings was my weekly pocket money then - perfect! I could buy an Airfix kit or 48 1.72 soldiers. Next set I bought was the Infantry Combat Group ( 1960s Brit Squadies ). No enemy troops yet, so I had to fight the Coldstream Guards! 😸
    Could write pages on the ancient history of Airfix, Britain's and Herald, but enough for now.
    Keep up the hunt Jerry.
    Good Luck👍

      Hi Jerry. Sorry, I don't have a Facebook Account. I would never have one - hate the damned things! Social media is a curse.
      I used to post War Movie Reviews on the Model Hanger Site - tag name " MoMo" - and it all got too much!
      I have followed, religiously, the development of all the toys which fascinated me from my childhood until now. Obviously, the ones which I received as a child are dearest to me. I had lots of soldiers. I added to them from the Cornflakes and Rice Krispies freebies which were every boy's goal in the fifties and early sixties - free cowboys ( Crescent moulds ) and Indians and Guardsmen. Even a Robin Hood set!
      Plus Dogs, animals, etc.
      It is now a healthy collecting area - check out Kellogs free toys on the net. They seem to be getting rarer on eBay now.
      Cheers,
      MoMo

    I had the airfix colour party and bandsmen in the 1960s. At that time they were mouded in red. However the colour party set, had been sitting in the shop window for some time, the box was faded and so were the figures behind the box window. Some were wholely pink othes half pink.

    • @toysoldiernostalgia

      I know they did them in red in the 60s and then in tan/cream in the late 60s early 70s.

      @toysoldiernostalgia  7 месяцев назад

      You´re probably right. I have a few 1/76 and a complete 1/32 scale collection and never had any sticky figures. Matchbox usually feel kinda dusty or like with a powder on them after all those years. But I have never seen a fake set of Matchbox 1/76 so I guess they should be legit.
      Gonna give them a clean with soap and a fine brusch.

    • @simonbrown9310

I'm not sure if it's really possible, so Good Luck to you, I hope you do find a way... And as to fake Matchbox 1/76 kits and soldiers, unfortunately YES they do exist, but they are very easy to spot, because the box art work looks like a photocopy, and the figures' details are far less "crisp / sharp"... The 1959 soldiers were actually pink and/or red (I had the red variety which are still red.) If the colour fades from red to pink, over time and presumably from the effect of light exposure, then the colour of the box art would be severely effected too. It isn't, those soldiers have been stored away from both damp and direct sunlight.

    • @toysoldiernostalgia
      @toysoldiernostalgia  7 месяцев назад +1

      That´s what I was thinking as well. Or the figures should be affected differently depending how close they were to the window in the box.
      I have seen the second type box for the Guards Band with red figures (the one that has the same style numbers as the first Colour Party).
      Never saw the first one in red.

      I checked and it fires. Different and more elaborate firing mechanism then some others.
      This one you push back the barrel that then locks.
      Then you ouch a metal tab forward that releases the barrel and moves forward and fires the round. Most others just have a small metal arm you pull back and turn 90 degrees to lock. Then flip it to fire.
      It´s gonna be fun to compare all guns in the future.
