      @@ronaldmcdonald8303 I am sure you would have made a damn fine soldier. Maybe it is for the best that you didn't join at 16. Boy soldiers used to get a lesser deal when I was a young man. Even at 18 the pay wasn't great either. I started on £37.50 a week, meanwhile my old school friends were making at least double that.
      The job itself was challenging. The training was first rate, it had to be. As a lifetime experience I felt it was worthwhile, but one has to live with some painful memories also. Kudos to your brother, you must be proud of him. I would love to see your videos one day. Perhaps you can invest in a decent camera and start producing material to show online. ebay have got involved in the shipping business and a lot of people in UK and US seem to ship this way - it means the seller ships the parcel to an ebay mail hub (could be in the same country as the seller) first, then the parcel is relabelled by ebay, and finally shipped to the buyer. This extra step adds more time for the buyer to receive it, and costs more money for the buyer than regular mail (as ebay needs to cover their labour/service costs)

I am not sure if airfix had another British company mainline to do the ready to run trains for them. They were by the ERTL company and the brand was ESCI. This was the mid-80s I looked it up on ebay. They were american made 1/72. We also had ones from MPC which were HO scale. I really liked the 1/32 scale Matchbox but they seemed harder to find here, same goes for those incredible playsets you filmed, we didn't have any Matchbox playsets around where I grew up. The ERTL company did make playsets but I never had any. Funny enough, I had an English friend who had one- it was a civil war playset, really cool! Have you ever seen an Airfix 1/72 Astronauts box? I had those when I was very young and always loved them.

    He should be making a distinction between HO and HO/OO, HO always at a standard 13/16” height, and HO/OO a scale determined by the brow ridge of the figure. His truck in/out of the box was smallish, probably HO, and can’t wait to see the Duck…
    These were are all regarded as toys, but later became semi-serious military figs. I had everything he was handling once, can’t say I was excited about the Guards Band or the Cowboys and Indians, but never saw canoes or the 105 gun…

    • @toysoldiernostalgia
      @toysoldiernostalgia  3 месяца назад

      The scale thing is a mess. We always used to call them 1/72 when I was a kid and it seem most people still do even though the boxes says ho-oo.
      Ho is 1/87 and was used by german model train makers and oo is 1/76 used by british model train makers. Then somewhere along the line people started refering to them as 1/72. Probably because they kinda fit with all the 1/72 scale models Airfix did.

      A huge number of them as far as I can tell. The various railside buildings, the engine shed (which was always one of my favourites). The footbridge, signal box, level crossing, platform Accessories ticket box, some of the rolling stock and the engines. It seems like dapol must have got the kit moulds. I am not sure but after airfix's late entry to the actual model train set scene they sold that bit of the business to palitoy and it became mainline trains who got the ready made rolling stock and electric engine's. I think another company maybe helijan got some of that eventually. The airfix railway stuff is not highly sought after by model railway collectors. There seems to be a lot of a small number of those models. In particular the large prairie tank engine. But I loved the kits, they were less standardised and samey than the stuff produced by the model railway companies like hornby and Lima. I can send you pictures of the current dapol packaging but it's also easy to find online It's basically all the old airfix line done in grey. An expensive alternative would be to commission an artist to recreate the images in their entirety. Whilst I personally find the Blue Edge Box artwork more appealing, there is a certain charm to the First Edition Window Box artwork. Whatever you do, I right with you.

    Un-Du would have saved, and prevented the damage!

      @@toysoldiernostalgia I tried passing this along and thought the information had been seen - as a response to your video showing the car race track with the misplaced stickers, I recommended looking into a product called "Un-Do" which can safely lift/remove almost all adhesive-based tapes, stickers, decals from a surface. It is safe and does not stain. Great for collectors to remove tape and stickers from cardboard, plastic, or any surface. A bonus is that they can be reused after removing and lifting off stickers! The adhesive re-tacks once the Un-Du evaporates, allowing you to reposition them. You can look up many videos demonstrating it being used. Find it online, available from online outlets
