This video is a masterclass on the fact that you don't need a whole lot of fancy special tools to get a job done,,Just a good head on your shoulders ,Some common sense,,And a get it done attitude ,,,And this guy has all three in spades,,,
Wow super video, you should be very proud of your skills. Great job on an old but still very useful piece of equipment al of your hard work will be very rewarding when you are using the machine
Fantastic work guy . As ex John Deere owner of several jd products especially a 410 JD EXTENDO HOE , ran mine 9,000 hour before new pump. JD 500 , JD 700 All Fantastic rigs
When I saw the inside of the barrel, I said "He needs a long extension to put a cylinder hone on and run that through it", then low and behold that's what you did!
You said this is not the right tool...mister you did fantastic with what you had... it's this stuff you do is why I sub your channel... great job and video... see ya on the next one...
Watching your videos has motivated me to learn how to use a lathe i inherited from my father. I am starting from scratch. Unfortunately, I was just a bigger hammer and torch kind of guy when he was alive. I so wish I would've taken the time when he was alive to gain some of his knowledge. Great channel man.
@danielboughton3624 In my dads "library" there is some really old machinist books that's my next stop. Thank you I will try and locate a copy of the one you're speaking of, I'd like to get somewhat proficient at this craft. I appreciate the recommendation
Hats off to you man, that thing put you through the mincer! Go rest up, heal your bones and prepare for your next battle. Looking forward to seeing your videos as always peace out 👌
The big pins Jesus pins u called them lol don’t waste your time with em on the bucket area I ran a 580 case for 15 years digging trenches n septic tank holes a bolt n double nut is your best keeper by far
Nothing wrong with Your perception. I like tight stuff, too. If this was for a customer I might advise not to but I want my machines toit. Happy New Year!
On fitting that collar you used a diy weld on clamp, and said it was ghetto. Do not feel bad about it. Years ago I worked on a pile driving crew. We sank metal sheet piles that needed to be vertical. We would do exactly what you did. Weld on a bracket and pull the piles into alignment with chain. When done cut them off. I have a Case 580SE that needs an extendahoe rebuild. I learned a lot watching this, even though it is a JD. And yes, everything on job like this heavy. I know it well.
Love stories like that! Good luck with your Case. I like their design better than JD. Same kind of wear points once you get it apart though. Thanks for the comment
I enjoyed watching you fix it up so there is some value in it for the audience. I think if you made up a good line boreing setup you would probably make good use of it.
Regarding the hitch pin clips: I think they might get pulled out and lost easily. Do a search for "flip over clip", they stay put and are quick and easy to remove. HTH
At 46:35 in the video you installed a grease fitting in a cylinder end, I believe you could rotate the cylinder rod 180° and keep that fitting out of the dirt. Keep making videos and I will keep watching them.
The pin that holds the bucket to arm needs a boss to lock the pin to the bucket. So it only rotates in the arm bushings. All the pins need to only rotate where bushings are
I tell ya what your a better man than me. I would ditched that extenda hoe and put a standard stick on in and used the extra hydraulic valve for a hydraulic thumb before doing all that work to it. But good on you for saving it. I’ve used the key pins or Jesus pins and they end up gone faster than you can put them in it. Just my 2 cents Thanks for the vid
Thanks. I’ll pass on those pins. Yeah the extendahoe is a pain to service but it’s gonna be great working in the woods on the mountain. I have a thumb solution coming very soon!
Thats a fine idea. I was also thinking of spinning it 180 degrees and putting a 90 degree zerk on it. I think there will be room to grease it from the side
@@spankranchgarage I can appreciate that. I watch a lot of videos of people doing subject matter such as yours but your personality and your creativity is why I am such a fan.
My old shop teacher called them b'jesus pins though those were much smaller and on carbs. He said they were called that because when you dropped one you would say "now where the b'jesus did that thing go?"
Sloppy equipment costs more money. Granted not a concern for your application but to counter your point to some extent, having tight equipment does provide real world value. I'm an engineer for an earth moving equipment manufacture. We have done productivity studies with new tight equipment vs under maintained clapped out equipment... we replaced pins with undersized versions. Cumulative delays waiting for cylinders to react, or having to intentionally slow a motion down to minimize over shoot. Of course there is lost accuracy. Play hell trying to hold grade so the operator has to slow down. Or maybe a bucket curls is slightly delayed reducing material collection. So now each bucket is down 1-2%. In a 24x7 operations that is significant, and the cumulative effects down stream is going to be greater. In the end... nobody likes a sloppy extend a hoe... but too tight is not better...
Yes my friend you are absolutely right, you waisted your time to fix the slop with little to no benefit. That is two weeks of your time you will never get back NO matter how many times you go to church. You are suffering from fixingshitright-itis and I'm afraid its terminal! You can get some relief from ample application of bush light but it has some side affects. You will experience some feelings of being frisky with your wife and the sensation of being a god and able to fix anything. I too suffer from this debilitating disease but know this, you do not suffer alone.
Sorry buddy i had cut out on the video i know you tube frowns on that .. we worked cattle today and im tired going drink me some beer and call it a night and work cattle again tomorrow
I don't have time to watch anybody who doesn't know not to try to machine rebar. You are just too unsafe with what you do. I serouusly hope you don't get hurt...
Interesting comment I appreciate that. Why is machining rebar so dangerous? It might be good to show other viewers as this is the first I am hearing of this?

Impressed every time you do one of these super in depth repair/rebuilds
I wouldn’t have even known where to start
You impress me every time you tackle a job, well done for an old backhoe.
Thanks for the support!
Great repairs. I always puck up a trick every time i watch you work on things.
Your definitely true mechanic, it's pleasure watching a pro at work😅
Love the sarcasm, beer Drinking and talent you remind me of ME
Wow super video, you should be very proud of your skills. Great job on an old but still very useful piece of equipment al of your hard work will be very rewarding when you are using the machine
You did a good job and quite frankly you won't regret the work in the long run.
Really great work and great teaching. Thank you so much. Kind Regards. Craig
Thanks Craig, glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for sharing! I hope I get some good hours on this one!
When I saw the inside of the barrel, I said "He needs a long extension to put a cylinder hone on and run that through it", then low and behold that's what you did!
Wow, really impressive. You can fix anything.
That long ass honing tool you made, was dead clever
Blown away with your skills! Hope you heal fast to make more videos.
Love watching you work and your thought process.
I’m so jealous how you have tools to make tools
This 400 dollar lathe has saved me thousands over the years!
Well done. You did a fantastic job.
You said this is not the right tool...mister you did fantastic with what you had... it's this stuff you do is why I sub your channel... great job and video... see ya on the next one...
I appreciate that! I try to make the most of what I have.
Your way of overcoming problems makes me push myself at my job! Fantastic work! @@spankranchgarage
*still learning to stick weld* throws down some casual vertical welds. killer job man!
I need to get you a 3D printer! For anyone interested, that tool was printed out of PETG on a Bambu P1S.
Thanks for the save!
I could have used a similar tool when rebuilding my power steering rack! The writing is on the wall...I NEED A PRINTER!

There is an old south bend booklet called how to run a lathe. Might be a good starting point.

It’s never too late to start! Joe Pie is one of my favorite machining channels. Good luck and have fun with that lathe. Try things just be safe

Right on!
Nice job! You’ll feel even better about the outcome after some good rest.👍
So great to see this one coming along, if you ever need a hand give me a shout always down to help!
Love the 3d print idea!
N also really like the long format videos awesome job

Dude! Great job!
good fffnnn gravy! you had to work plus blood sweat and tears!! first class job!( come on people we need to get this sob some SUBS!)
Damn good work Spank!
I over do it loading the F150 to service field equip. That's enough over doing it for me!! Nice job.
Absolutely nothing wrong to make repairs to your specifications. Nice job!
I enjoyed watching you fix it up so there is some value in it for the audience. I think if you made up a good line boreing setup you would probably make good use of it.
Sweet 3-D seal/ring compressor.
Very nice job.
Well done! Good thing you're young :)
Regarding the hitch pin clips: I think they might get pulled out and lost easily. Do a search for "flip over clip", they stay put and are quick and easy to remove. HTH
Good job!!
I think that machine is great its better than any shovel lol
100%. A crappy backhoe is better than no backhoe
At 46:35 in the video you installed a grease fitting in a cylinder end, I believe you could rotate the cylinder rod 180° and keep that fitting out of the dirt. Keep making videos and I will keep watching them.
Great idea. I’ll look and see if can put a 90 degree fitting in and hit it from the side that way
Gostei muito do trabalho de manutenção 🛠️🔧😎
Thanks for watching!
Tenacity bro! You are it! That will last yeaaaars!
Nice work... lots of work, but a good job!
Hopefully that accessory you're talking about is a thumb?
Close! Kinda!
I have cut up a pop bottle to make a funnel and ductape the outside, works fair as a ring compressor
That would work!
@spankranchgarage it also works to roll a few rounds of pop bottle on a quick connect fuel line to make it release. (I don't walk home, much)
Ill be damned never thought bout that air hammer trick 😮
The pin that holds the bucket to arm needs a boss to lock the pin to the bucket. So it only rotates in the arm bushings. All the pins need to only rotate where bushings are
Wow never thought of it that way, you’re totally right!
Dude you are great to listen to and watch. Have you ever done a video on your background?
Not yet! But I’m just a paper pusher for my 9-5 work. I love getting out in the shop and learning stuff by doing it.
I tell ya what your a better man than me. I would ditched that extenda hoe and put a standard stick on in and used the extra hydraulic valve for a hydraulic thumb before doing all that work to it. Can you weld a collar around that exposed grease fitting to protect it?
Thats a fine idea. I was also thinking of spinning it 180 degrees and putting a 90 degree zerk on it. I think there will be room to grease it from the side
Eu vi o primeiro vídeo e achei bom também 🤝🇧🇷
Great video as always. What is your favorite beer if $$$$ was not a problem?
Lately it’s been Busch light lol. But I don’t really get into beer flavor. Just something cheap I can sip all day without getting too unsafe
@@spankranchgarage I can appreciate that. I watch a lot of videos of people doing subject matter such as yours but your personality and your creativity is why I am such a fan.
We call them “R” clips over here in the uk 🇬🇧 as they look like the letter R I’m guess 😂
Great stuff, and happy new year! I’ve never been a fan of extend a hoes because it’s just another ware item
Sure is a pain in the butt but I think I’ll find it very useful for the work I have lined up
first class repair
I’m surprised you haven’t got yourself a hydraulic hose crimp tool yet as you’ve replaced a lot of them so far
Keeping an eye out for one at the auctions. Especially because these old Deeres all use the same fittings
I’m trying to figure out your background. I used to think you are a vehicle mechanic but now I’m beginning to think some sort of engineer/machinist ?
The pins who mentioned are called R CLIPS are extremely successful in UK for Excavators & Agriculture 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
My old shop teacher called them b'jesus pins though those were much smaller and on carbs. He said they were called that because when you dropped one you would say "now where the b'jesus did that thing go?"
Hahaha maybe that’s where I heard it from
Did you sing for Powerman 5000? Lol

I believe ya got urself a nice machine now young man. Keep it greased and it will last your lifetime.............maybe.
Sorry buddy i had cut out on the video i know you tube frowns on that .. we worked cattle today and im tired going drink me some beer and call it a night and work cattle again tomorrow
I respect the hard work! Be safe out there and stay hydrated 🍻
I overdo everything for no good reason
ok
Earth will grind the side of the bucket where previous attachments were. Don't spend your time on that.
True! I won’t worry about them
pl
You're telling me you don't have any bolts and some scrap metal laying around to make a spanner wrench come on bud use your brain
Gotta know when it’s okay to shortcut and when it’s not. In these cases I am ready to fix my mistakes coming from a failed shortcut
