    To those curious, you can get longer recording by putting your phone in airplane mode! I find between cell service, Google photos, Amazon photos, etc trying to hog network bandwidth, the phone heats up faster. Airplane mode alleviated this and helped to put the prime focus on the video/camera

    I'm excited for this phone! I currently have the 5 ii. I used to get a new phone every year but I was happy to keep using my current phone but these updates look great to me. I recently dipped my toe into audiophile headphones so I'm using the headphone jack more than I used to. Gaming with BT headphones is usually terrible so I would plug in anyway. Now enjoying a more premium sound.

  • @anecro
    @anecro 2 года назад +11

    Maaaan I'm so bummed that the 5 IV doesn't include that tasty optical zoom of the 1 IV, that's what I was holding my breath about all this time. 60mm is great don't get me wrong, but I enjoy taking photos of faraway objects and scenes for multiple reasons (I like me some sky and sunset photography as well as things like mountains or animals etc), so you can imagine how good the 5 III looks still, with the 2 options on its telephoto, 70 and 105mm.
    The IV phones are still better computationally and they have better dynamic range but not a strong third rear camera for me so now I'm stuck balancing things out again even if I currently can't afford either device.

    Juan, I'm looking to upgrade from the 5ii. My main reasons for choosing the Xperia were : headphone jack, SD card, front facing speakers and the camera - specifically the EyeAF and burst (I have a super fast dog.)
    I enjoy the 5ii a lot, but torn between upgrading between the 1iv or the 5iv - both are available at the same cost in the UK, however the 5iv comes with the new link buds.
    I'm not a pro photographer by any stretch, I tend to use auto modes (mainly because most of my shots are of my dog and there's no time to fiddle). I prefer the more natural shots and photographic look the Sony provides over the computational methods of the competition, and if I want it more social media juicy looking I edit in post. I tend to use the phone most for consuming media - movies, RUclips, shower speaker for music, and Google maps (which HS power control works with and is a lifesaver on the battery for long journeys) plus photography.
    What would you go for/recommend, if both the 1iv and 5iv were the same price for you?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

    I understand and agree with your take on the overheating issue. With my Xperia 5 iii I am able to work around it sometimes now that I'm pretty familiar with it. But it is worse than any phone I've ever had before, and it really hurts. I take a lot of photos and video every day. Not just for pleasure but for work. And more than once I've had to go back to a job site to grab the photos that I missed. At least with my copy of the Xperia 5 iii, that happens on fairly mild days in the sunlight, and without fail in the 90s. I've had mostly LG phones, and tried a few Samsung's (and didn't like them) when LG bowed out. I would really like to stick with Sony for all that they are doing. I'm hoping the 5 IV and future iterations continue to grow without giving up precious features like expandable storage, headphone jacks and a true mirrorless camera experience.

    Love the review and I really want to get a Sony, but Samsung has won me over with the S21 Ultra and now I have the S22 Ultra. The 3x and 10x zooms are excellent and yes you can seamlessly zoom between all lenses as long as you are in 4k/30fps. And I have not had any heating issues recording in hot July for extended periods of time. The other key feature I use is the s-pen. I take notes for work and other things and it is the the key feature that made me jump after LG left the market. I am loving what Sony is doing though, and the streaming and video capture features are fantastic additions and I love that they are doing it.

      @luc7976 2 года назад +2

      Very different type of phone though. For sure great phone with better value, better zoom and things you mentioned. Difference here is 2 stage shutter button, headphone jack, expandable storage, more natural looking photo's & videos (S22 certainly has pro mode to help on that aspect). Also this is much lighter and more compact. One of the downsides with the Ultra models.

    • @Drew_Koch
      @Drew_Koch 2 года назад +2

      @@luc7976 I agree they are different types of phone, yet similar in price (at least for me). I definitely like a lot of the Sony features and more natural color science. I was really just bringing up Juan's mention of the seamless zoom. He was coming for the Samsungstans (usually rightfully so) about the zoom and I wanted to point out that you absolutely can do this on the S21 Ultra and S22 Ultra. I do not know about the other phones in the lineup, however.

    Still to big. Price is still to high for only two years software support. Cameras aren’t up to the competition. I’ve owned plenty of Xperias and it’s just not gonna happen again unless they either bring back a true compact or update the software support to at least 4 years. iPhones get around 6.

    I hope there is a software update that improves the thermal throttling issue. I do several hour long 4K 30 FPS videos, so I need the phone to be able to handle that. The 5,000 mAh battery, headphone jack, SD card slot, wireless charging would otherwise make this a great purchase for me.
