Very interesting. The 5 IV is making me second guess my desire for the I IV; however, I think I want the bigger display. It's a lot of dollars for that extra display size, but you also get the telephoto. That said, where I was 100% getting the I IV, now I'm 85%. lol
I am no creator and I have watched a couple of videos before commenting this, is like a lot the videos talk about the price point and the features aiming too much for creators, but i think with the right marketing and the issues reported about overheats this device is a mainstream device, mostly because everyone would like to capture better videos and pictures manually. Great video man, liked.

the phone looks pretty amazing and i love that it doesn't have a curved screen!! But it seems that this phone doesn't have a night mode in the camera like on the pixel? Im checking the sample photos on gsm arena and the night shots look way to dark but good tho.
Knowing that you are one of the OG Android desktop experience youtubers, can you do a section for phones that might have some level of desktop capability built in, and maybe using a 3rd party app (eg Taskbar)?
I got this today used from Cex for £300 its in perfect brand new condition running on Android 14. Previous phone was the original Xperia 5 which i paid full price brand new. That still runs good. No problems with the phone so far. Main camera is slightly better and 120hz makes a difference. Have yet to fully test it out but all good so far. Pics deffo need editing in Snapseed or Lightroom to fully bring out the details in the picture.
Too much ambiguity on this phone. The things I like here are the battery and the SD card. I'm not sure I can understand the camera as a simple user but I have been waiting for long for a flagship phone that comes with an SD card. I'll definitely try this and see if I can keep it
1.- I refuse to buy a "premium" device that costs more than most flagships out there and doesn't come with a charger. The people that keep doing so are the problem, since the "eco-friendly" bs excuse falls apart very quickly due to the fact that buying a charger that the phone should include is going to be packed in a separate box, creating even more waste than if they had just included it in the original box. Don't get confused, this isn't a move to save the environment. Its a move to increase proft. 2.- There are plenty of devices that have shortcuts to the camera, even with the device locked.
What's up with the Focus? @9:20 Photos don't look that great, lots of the objects are blurry, especially the Fountain, the Water Feature and the Crowd of People. The image with you and @MrMobile is great. Does the Autofocus struggle with non-human / non-animal subjects?

Yes, it might take time and money but you already have an abundant resource. You can have your own ecosystem and if there is any brand which can take on the apple's ecosystem then it can be none other than Sony. Sony owns more than Apple to create the best ecosystem. PlayStation, Music players, Bravia TV, Xperia Phones, Vaio Laptop(I know you only have 5% now) Earphones and headphones, Bluetooth speakers, Walkman, Also upcoming Cars Sony Honda Vision S, Digital watches. Why don't you understand Sony? People desperately looking for alternative from money hungry apple. And you can only do it. They aren't able to do that as long as they're staying out of competition. Because Sony is a juggernaut in all those other spaces they don't really care about competing with their smartphones, and in many ways that's a good thing. Their phone department is small even if very experienced professionals from other departments help out.
The thermal engine sucks, there is no heat pipe, it gets hot easily and the main features turn off when the smartphone is hot. What's more, when you take pictures or play games outdoors in tropical countries, it's easy to overheat, the main feature is off. It's expensive but it's a problem, strangely all Xperia's are experiencing the same thing and no solution till now. Sad
I'm still leaning towards the 1 IV but I think this will be a better experience. The telephoto is definitely more to my liking. Great stuff TK. Glad your trip was a lot of fun.
I'm still with my perfect Sd855 version s10 plus 💪, because of those! Jack, SD card and a great screen{format} 500+ ppi! I'm waiting for the next year... Maybe the 8+1 gen will make a perfect Xperia... And I'll upgrade to it! Cheers
Micro SD is almost dead on Phones. Such a shame. If you're phone dies or breaks and you have a Warranty Repair you lose all your photos on Internal Storage when they reset the device. With Micro SD you rescue your images.
The mark 5 iv have the tsmc snapdragon 8gen1 plus but the mark 1 iv have the failure snapdragon 8gen1 made by Samsung a real sun temperature also the mark 5 iv have better cameras The only thing that the mark 1 iv have better than 5 iv is the 4k display
Me too. Where I live I have nowhere to go to actually pick up these phones to try out; however, I decided to cut out some cardboard in the dimensions of both the 5IV and the 1IV. (My OCD kicked in lol). The 5IV is just a little too narrow for my liking. I think I would have trouble texting, doing web searches, etc... The 1IV was only a few mm more narrow than my P30 Pro, but a few mm taller. I like the idea of a smaller phone, but in practice I don't think I'd like it as much. Saving a thousand dollars with the 5IV would be nice, though. 😄

That's the thing, this phone does things better in some areas but in others it's been handicapped. The 5 III has the superior telephoto camera, a chip that overheats the phone much less and it's hella cheaper now. The 5 IV may have better video capabilities, real time zoom between lenses, a brighter screen and a better selfie camera but its telephoto is weaker, it's much more expensive and the notorious 8 gen 1 chip makes it real difficult for it to function under stress for probably more than 5 minutes.
aside from launching camera, the dedicated shutter key is as tactile as those digicams... half press to focus... it is similar to nokia lumias and some n series... you would appreciate it like i do if you have one... not a deal breaker if it is not on your phone, but handy if you have...

Thats the interesting question. Did Sony listen to its users and add a heatpipe or any hardware heat measurements to fix the issue we have on the 1 IV. If not and a smaller body that is a K.O. for te 5 IV. It will overheat probably quicker than the 1 IV after all the updates when recording videos.
How are the pictures mediocre lmao, it's the standard praised Sony quality with accurate colors and minimal processing. If anything there's more dynamic range there than previous models.
We have to keep in mind that they did not raise the price so that's something that also affects what they're able to do to keep it down at this price point
@@TKBay in Europe price has increased from 999 to 1049, last year model had charging brick in the box ( i have enough of those at my home so it s ok) Sdcard reader on X 1 IV has really slow speeds but i am glad there is one. This time esim instead of sim2 so we can keep the microsd and still have dual sim
All Xperia have bad Thermal Engine and no heat pipe, we in Asia have hot summer and Xperia is not suitable in hot weather country. The heat makes Xperia flagship features stop and that sucks. Not worth the price they offer
What about overheating? I see Mr. Mobile mention that in his video, device was heating too much. Also SD Gen1 for 1000 euros instead of improved version Gen+1 in not a deal. Another cons is display, GSM Arena measure below 1000 nits. If we compare wich competition is way bellow even from last year phones. Sony nightmode is useless, also too much boring software UI! These are cons make me mad on Sony developing team for years and the reason why i didnt see Sony phone in real life for years because of this nobody buy them. At tge other side Sony have in my opinion the best desing in phone industry.

"Night mode" is using manual/pro settings like an actual camera.

Not enough for the price. 2x Android Updates and 3-years Security.
