Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (Russian: Григорий Ефимович Распутин), or better known as his surname Rasputin, is the main antagonist of Don Bluth's ninth animated feature film Anastasia. He is loosely based on the real-life Russian psychic of the same name, but in the film, he is depicted as a far more malevolent being of black magic rather than more like the real-life Rasputin, though the two share the common title of "Mad Monk". He is Anastasia and Dimitri's arch-nemesis and Bartok's former master.
He was voiced by Christopher Lloyd who also played Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Reggie Shand in Walk Like a Man, The Hacker in Cyberchase, Merlock in DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Lord Imaru in The Secret Treasure of Machu Picchu by Golden Films, Mr. Clipboard in Foodfight!, Bill Crowley in I Am Not A Serial Killer, Dr. Heep in Baby Geniuses, Kruge in the Star Trek universe, Switchblade Sam in Dennis the Menace, Helgait in The Mandalorian and Pachacamac in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, while his singing voice was provided by Jim Cummings, who also played Razoul in Disney's Aladdin, Ed the Hyena in Disney's The Lion King, Long John Silver in The Pagemaster, Steele in Balto, and was also half of the singing voice of Scar in Disney's The Lion King, the Bears in Sing, and Hondo Ohnaka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Throughout the film, Rasputin was portrayed as a very manipulative, diabolical, arrogant and wicked man, to the point of killing an entire family without any remorse.
He is the type of man who is capable of giving everything to fulfill their promises, bequeathing to the point of selling his soul to dark forces just to have the power to destroy the Romanov family.
He is also seen to be somewhat reckless, obsessive, spontaneous and impulsive with his objectives when they are not achieved, such as the case of Anastasia. He is a man of crude and abusive nature, as shown by him constantly hitting his assistant Bartok.
