All sewing machines come with changeable needles, as the needles get dull over time. Generally, you need to change the needle about every 8-10 hours of sewing time. There is generally a small screw you loosen and tighten to remove and replace the needle.

@@ThatCatholicNurse mostly by looking through reviews. Generally speaking, machines with metal gears are sturdier but much heavier and more expensive. They also require regular oiling. Cheaper machines have plastic gears and won’t last as long, but they are more than enough for someone who sees occasionally.
I personally have a Brother CS6000i ($200) that has held up well with yearly tuneups. I also have a Juki TL-2010q ($1k) that’s absolutely indestructible, but it’s more than most people need for home use. I have it specifically for quilting.
