It is actually really good on those type of fabrics, I was going to sell it when I bought the digital sewing machine, but I find out that the digital was not as good at sewing heavy fabric than this one, so I decided to keep it.

Did you put the bobbin on the winder then push it all the way over to the right as far as it can go? Also, if the handwheel won't move then it may be stuck and need to be repaired.
