Well I have been doing vector for some time(~1 year as a hobby) but really not watched many tutorials but this UI tutorial was something I needed. Hope to see more of these.
I'm amazed at how these simple steps are sufficient to make that button look photoreal, like something you'd see on a coffee machine. It turns out the biggest trick is using a photorealistic background and that somehow makes the less realistic button look photoreal. When I watched this video, I didn't actually want to make that button but I got too curious on how complicated it'd be.
yet another awesome and useful tutorial. thx bud. you help us learn to use these tools to bring out our creativity, which lets our imagination soar. let your ink-SCAPE the land before you as you sail the digital wave. oops, used the wife's account, shh, don't tell her! lol :)
I really like all your videos, especially about Inkscape. One thing is causing me to make an extra effort to see your black screen. The icons are very tiny and in sometimes I must guess what button you pressed or selected. I think that you configured Inkscape that way to have a bigger working area. And that's ok for you, but I don't have such a big monitor but a 19" one. Yes, perhaps I must change my glasses.
I've been watching you for quite some time. Now I can recreate most of your tutorial result images just by looking on it. Thank you for your awesome tutorials! p.s soz for my bad english lul
First off I have to say "You're The Man" your videos are great and I'm sure going to learn a lot from them. With that being said I do have one question about a part in the video, instead of making the power icon could I just us a solid color png logo in its place??
Hey nick I love your vids and they help me a lot though I'm wondering if there's a way you can make an effect that looks like static tv screen/ Screen glitching? If you can that would be great! Thanks
I'm download Inkscape in order to folllow your GREAT tutorial, but why my Inkscape interface is white and yours is black with different left buttons aspect? My inkscape is also 0.92 version... Thanks for all!!!
I tried rotating the ellipse that I made in Inkscape but it wont rotate (clockwise and counter clockwise) I can rotate it however by clicking it twice with the move tool and holding ctrl and moving it 90 degrees Do you know why that's happening tho?
If you're using a laptop, tablet or monitor with a small resolution those tools may not be visible. In that case there will be a small arrow at the bottom of the toolbar. If you click on that, a fly out menu will bring up those missing tools.
Select the button and copy and paste it into a new document. Then resize the document around the button by selecting it and pressing control + shift + r on your keyboard. Then you can save it as a svg file.
Nick please take a look at this music video with the backgrounds: watch?v=Nwp2XQhwQQQ Can you tell me how they animate them? Is this possible with gimp? Some of them are really awesome
Your tutorials are really helpful! Thank you! Just did the design and put it inside a Qt5 application and then installed on a Raspbery Pi. Take a look at the video bellow showing the button in action with a touchscreen: ruclips.net/video/YEDtfX8O3Eg/видео.html
I've watched many of your videos, but I've never commented. I want to thank you for your tutorials. My daughter and I have learned a lot from you.

This button looks so cool!! One question though: How would you make it look like it's in pushed down state?
This is awesome.

That's a good idea, I may do that next

Great as always. :-)
Unable to rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise after applying linear gradient. Running Win10 Pro and Inkscape 0.92.
Please advise.
muito bom, se você fizesse no blender seria muito mais rápido.

Сколько усилий для того чтобы создать, на первый взгляд, простую кнопку =)
How about the brushed metal background, can it be archived with Inkscape?
BRAVO
God Bless Tutor
how do you select different duplications without selecting the upper ones
I tried rotating the ellipse that I made in Inkscape but it wont rotate (clockwise and counter clockwise)
I can rotate it however by clicking it twice with the move tool and holding ctrl and moving it 90 degrees
Do you know why that's happening tho?
Update can't flip it vertically using the move tool rip..
is there a way to make this into rectangle?
How do you get the other tools like the gradient tool?
If you're using a laptop, tablet or monitor with a small resolution those tools may not be visible. In that case there will be a small arrow at the bottom of the toolbar. If you click on that, a fly out menu will bring up those missing tools.
Nick Saporito thanks

Select the button and copy and paste it into a new document. Then resize the document around the button by selecting it and pressing control + shift + r on your keyboard. Then you can save it as a svg file.
