If you want to learn more about how Inkscape works, I have a 50+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in Inkscape and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/inkscape/

your tutorials are great. I think I am in for your course. I randomly used inkscape with your tutorials. I try to make images from photographs for my Silhouette cutter. Now this bird is easy to section in different colors. I want to do a dog and don't know how to organize it into sections.

@Fabianus Anka why would he do it for free? He went to school and paid to learn, so you can as well!

Sometimes you do. Not everyone is born with skills, they practise and pay to learn

You have the perfect balance of being repetitive without sounding too repetitive. Explaining the keybinds each time really helped me. Old but gold

It's so great that you mention the keyboard shortcuts you use. As a total beginner, this is immensly helpful - much more fun to look at a cool parrot picture being made than just hear/read a list of key bindings with no to little context.

Wow! I am very impressed with INKSCAPE as a vector graphics design application. It is exactly what I was hoping as an alternative to Corel Draw, or most any other program, that cost hundreds of dollars to own. I am also very happy with the instructional videos available from logos by nick, and will very likely be purchasing a more in depth training series so that I might finally learn to do the things that I have been wanting to do for a long time. Thanks for the instruction Nick. Kudos to the creators of Inkscape!

I'm so glad I found this. I recently had to get a new laptop and install Inkscape and GIMP onto it.
I've been working with Illustrator and Photoshop for years but I am unable to get them right now so I had to find substitute programs to keep working on my digital art. I was recommended GIMP and Inkscape but they're so different than what I'm used to, especially Inkscape, so I was worried!
Thankfully this helped me understand the basics a lot better! I plan on using my old laptop for an art computer at least until I get the hang of these new programs-just hope it holds out long enough! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial!! I gotta keep in mind that sometimes simple is better and not get so hung up on little details!
The parrot looks great by the way! :D

Hi Nick. Like everyone else who has commented, I really appreciate the time and care you put into these videos, and I find them very useful.
A quick question about this one. At 21.23 you start to mention that you did not put the different layers of feathers on different layers, but used the "raise or lower function" to bring them forward or send them back. I have not tried this yet, so I am trying to understand how the raise/lower function works. Does it adjust the hue or brightness of an object, in order to change the impression of its relative 'position' or 'importance'?
    Thank you.

Hi Nick, great instructional videos. I followed step by step on a different image. Single color. But I seem to have mixed up the layers that I drew on. Is there a way to select all the lines I've made and group them together into one layer? Also, while outlining shapes I seem to have missed selecting some nodes to make it a complete line. Is there a way I could connect different lines into one continuous line?

You've probably already realized this by now but setting it to spiro is a lot easier, and twice as fast. Just lay out all of your nodes, select the ones that need to be curved and click the auto smooth feature at top. Then, all you have to do is adjust. Simple as a pimple.
