I've learned not to trust other review channels. Most of them simply shill for these companies. Your impartiality makes you one of the only channels I trust to give us all the information... good or bad. Thank you Will, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
LOL..HoboTech did a review a couple of days ago.. I had to tease him because he said he wasn't going to open it up "Because there were enough other RUclips Channels that would."
Oh man, that frayed wire is AWEFUL. Looks to me like they tried to save $0.01 by pulling out that white sensor instead of the proper sensor port. It's too bad as they look like decent cells. They asked me a couple of times to review this battery but I declined. Glad someone covered it! Too many options on the market these days to keep track of.
Right?! I cannot believe that wire. They must have used a lot of force too. Yikes. Yeah the cells looked nice, and the balance lead. I hope we see this BMS more, I do like it when it's configured properly. Probably just a cheap PCB that multiple companies are buying. Can work with various voltage batteries.
I told you don’t buy the battery. Already I opened it mine looks quality inside but the low temp sensor is missing why I put one star review. The problem is already I bought 8 of them.
To Note Though-- Even though this dr. Prepare case looks very similar to most of the other ones that will is mentioning, this case is different on top. On one of the company’s pictures, the screws show to be exposed! On others, they are still there but under something.
Wire was probably supposed to be tucked in but wasn't or came out. Perhaps only held in place with a small piece of captan tape. Then whoever was screwing the cases shut was going super fast and just went right through the wire. when you're paid by the piece or have some supervisor only worried about production speed, this stuff happens.
Thank you Will for stopping me from making a mistake and buying one of these. I trust your judgment on these matters. You have the most complete reviews. Merry Christmas and stay safe.
According to other reviewers this is the best battery since sliced bread. It's simply amazes me how cheaply people will sell their souls for:( Thank you for your honest review!
I went with the SOK 100AH batteries in my van-3 of them-based on your reviews. I couldn't be happier. Phenomenal value for the quality, thanks for all you do!
Had an odd lay over in Vegas and saw some homes with panels on them and thought of you. Thanks for all your videos and I hope you are able to enjoy that city :)
That is indeed scary. "Sealed" batteries in this arena seem to all say the same thing, we have something to hide. Granted, there are good quality batteries that are sealed, it is hard to know if they are sealed for your protection or theirs. Slowly but surely I am coming to a realization though observation alone that when a battery can be serviced, they are usually much higher build quality. With so many of these serviceable batteries available now at a good price it kind of narrows it to DIY or serviceable for me. I really don't want to run the risk of open conductors in a case like that. That just scares me so much. Glad you do these Will, it has added to my knowledge considerably. At least 90% or more of my knowledge of solar comes from you and what you share on this channel. I still want to see what the outcome is of a full test of LTO on Grade A cells. I know it has been a bit of a thing with you actually getting the right cells, and seems like a lot of people are only able to get grade b regardless of what they paid for, (which btw, I hope they refunded you for that). Thanks for what you do.
To be fair, this battery had screws. Looks like there was some kind of plug in the hole. Wish Will would have explored that a little more. I'd be a lot more likely to buy a battery that could be disassembled without a saw. The sad reality is that even if the reviewed battery was good inside, that doesn't stop them from changing the design. Trust but verify!
I just purchased 4 of the $299 batteries for a golf cart. They do claim to have low temp sensors on this battery. I'm not going to cut them open, but they're working great for me.
Nice review as always. Just by the name Dr Prepare i was like "nahhhh". Love the server rack batteries nice to know you will have new reviews on thems!
I just got 2 of these batteries for my boat trolling motor. I will make sure and charge only when outside temps are above freezing. Thanks for the heads up. Glad I got the Weize for my RV as it charges in the cold.

Hello. I found your channel just recently and watched a bunch of your very informative videos. I also noticed that when you take stuff apart and start to describe what your are seeing that your voice changes a bit. What that tells me is that you are very passionate about the subject of solar systems, batteries etc. I really appreciate it! This is the way it’s supposed to be! Thank you and wish you all the best!
Will, you should make a new video as an update for the 2021 and 2020 videos from the lowest quality to the best quality with a price long and all the data that'll be awesome...great video and thank you for your videos you are the best... 👍👍👍👍.....
Totally awesome - I was looking at the exact 1 star review of this battery on Amazon with the photos of the tear-down. I was thinking about pulling the trigger on buying but didn't. You confirmed my reservations and probably saved me a lot of hassle. THANK YOU.
Will, you have shown us your large system for charging your Tesla and air conditioning your workspace with some videos. Any chance of putting this information into a "Large Solar Systems" book? Also, what happens to solar panel output when the batteries are being charged via MPPT charger and the batteries become fully charged? Thanks for the great videos on solar systems.
I bought 4 of these, with the screen. 2 failed immediately, they replaced them so I was happy. I used them for my mower. By the time they sent the new ones though it was late in December and I didn't need to mow. Finally I got to mow with it, and in the middle of the first mow, it is dead. a third battery is bad. I'm going to go buy a different brand. I don't have time to keep dealing with this.
Got my Dr Prepare 100Ah Batteries today. First thing I did was crack one open. There is a lot of wasted space in these cases. Mine didn't have a pinched wire but it did have the misplaced heat sensor and no cold temp sensor. There were also sloppy finger prints all over the bus bars. I'll clean these units up, move the heat sensor, install a cold sensor and repackage two of these into a Pelican Case for portable power. Thanks for the inside look at this Dr Pooper of a battery build.
Early on in your exploration of lithium batteries you were quite happy with Daly green BMS, so I decided that was the brand name and bought those I started building my batteries. But as you discovered with early BMS the low temperature sensor wasn't there. Finally when I was ordering my third 200 amp sensor from China I texted the girl and asked her how to get that BMS with a low temp sensor on it. And they answered me and they said add this to your order twice and that'll be $4 and will add the low temp sensor for you. So apparently it was always available but they just weren't offering it in their standard menu offering. You had to ask for it. So now I have three 200 amp batteries in my motorhome and if I ever mess up and let the battery compartment drop below freezing One battery will be saved while I might be destroying the other two. On a serious note I have temperature sensor in that compartment and regulate the temperature pretty carefully and the coldest I have been at was 28° in the compartment stayed at 38. Thanks for the work you do. I know it's how you earn your living and you do it well and you earn. it.
ANOTHER SUPER VIDEO!! My goodness, Will,... you provide such informative videos! When a person is forced to shell out $500 for a battery, that person also needs to have confidence that the purchase was worthwhile and not a potential time bomb! I cannot thank you enough for all you provide for us consumers, Will!!
Will can you please do a teardown of the EcoFlow EF 12volt 100ah Group 27 LiFePO4 Battery? Also once open can the BMS be linked to do remote monitoring?
Server rack batteries are where it's at. So easy to scale with a nice rack cabinet with common + and -. All in one to top it off. I live in Canada and our Amazon deal right now is Ecoworthy (brand), would be nice if you could review the 100Ah model.
For off-grid it's perfect. The question is where to draw the line between on and off grid, as its regulated by different approvals/agencies. Would be nice for this type of equipment to conform to municipal requirements.
Show me a link. I am pretty sure that all these server rack batteries are made in the same plant and there is a huge backlog of orders right now because they cannot get enough children to show up for work!
Ampertime is still a better deal right now.. $369.99 and a $20.00 discount. $349.99 I'm thinking about getting my 4th Ampertime 100Ah Battery. Merry Christmas to ME !
In your opinion. I am looking for a 12v battery for my trolling motor and i don't want to spend more than $350 and i don't necessarily need 100ah or the best battery just a reliable one.
AND THAT"S why your Tesla failed on first day. people who don't care on their craftsmanship. it happens in every trade. yes i commented when you mentioned the Dislike button have been disabled. That's what i like about you, You keep it real. we got your back
Good to know I respect your advice when it comes to buying batteries. I am planning on purchasing some lithium iron batteries in the coming year to add to my solar grid.
I couldn't find a tear down of the Renogy BlueTooth LiFePo4 100AH 12v battery, just the "Smart" version of it. Curious if it contains pouch or prismatic cells, anyone know? Also, highly looking forward to the 48v rack mount battery reviews, that's what I'm looking to buy next. Nice review as always!
I got myself a 14,000wh lifepo4 battery bank, 48vdc from Treeline Power systems for 3300 dollars. It's got enough capacity to keep the inverter running over night. They sell a rack cabinet steel box to support 3 of these battery banks. Nice storage solution for reasonable cost.
HOBOTech made a review. It seemed to pass the muster but he was wafting for someone to rip this baby open! Thanks for keeping the industry on their toes.
Lots of people leave a bad review just because they didn't pay attention to what they were buying lol. A truly troubled product typically has descriptive reviews.
Thanks for opening the case on this unit. It looks like this is a classic example that your get what you pay for isn’t it? After seeing the temperature sensor configuration I’m guessing that this battery wouldn’t last very long because it didn’t have things wired correctly to protect itself from overheating or cold temps. Can you think of a time where this type of battery would be useful? Could a couple of them be used with a small pure sine wave inverter as a battery backup for a computer or printer that needs to stay operational like for security cameras?
Brilliant, Will your scientific approach toward analyzing problems be it a broken door handle or a poorly designed battery and or BMS. Its not opinion but reproducible, thank you for spending your money to take apart these expensive products what's impressive is when you can get a manufacturer to improve their product and thus protect us from "some" questionable manufacturers.
Not having Low temp sensors seem to be a big problem in the battery industry. Are they that expensive or troublesome to install? I just don’t understand skipping them.
Hi there. Can you make a video with The 30 Amp mppt from victron? I don't understand where do you connect your load. And how to connect for The Street Light function to work. Thx! 🙂
Hey Will, What battery chemistry would you use to start a water well pump? How many cycles should I expect if I only discharge down to 20% and charge uo to 80%?
I bought a 100ah battery from dhgate at that price it also has the same black case as that one, i got it for my trolling motor it seemed be working well but not sure if its the same battery, mine weighed in at around 23lbs and box had no lables just a little sticker that said 12v 110ah Ion !
I guess you and Hobotech have different standards. BTW if my batteries never get near freezing, why do I need a low temperature sensor? Love your videos.
@@housesOTR Will also doesn't get his batteries below freezing, but he is talking in general for others. Always better to have it if possible right. And also the lack of a high temp cutoff in the BMS mosfet itself is a big concern, coz if we overload it, it won't cut off and then not sure what happens next. They tried to save a penny by pulling out the high temp sensor from the MOSFET and attach it to the cells, just to show people that it has a sensor? That's ridiculous and counter intuitive.
Hi there, Long time listener first time commenter. (Also from San Diego). Just caught a glance of your thumbnail for this video and thought you were smoking this battery. 😂
Can a BMS be replaced? I have two Lossigy 200 mah batteries with bad BMS. Any chance I can pay you to fix them? Lossigy is doing nothing to help and they are newer batteries.
Hi, so you say the high temp sensor isnt any use, what about for us in aus that only use the battery in summer and dont really have those kind of lows?
I dislike ANY LiFePO4 battery that can not easily be opened with bolts/screws. What brands pass this test? LionTron. Any others? We need to be able to look inside, if things are ok. Can you make a video on this topic?
The BIG atrocity is that Chill Will did not notice the covered screw holes that hold the top in place and hacked the case open instead.. LOL! How about removing the heat sink and connecting the high temp sensor to it's rightful place, or would the BMS have to be re-programed?
Since the BMS is good, could you just solastic the high-temp sensor next to the fets and then solder in your own low-temp sensor to the unpopulated contacts to make it a functional battery? ... Also replace that frayed wire of course.
I can't think of a single person on this planet who would go through that effort, then glue the case back together, when you can buy a cheaper battery with better parts and higher quality design and assembly. That would be a huge waste of time.
Also, we have no clue what integrated circuit they are using to control the bms, and it could be flashed with different firmware that does not support low temp cut off.
@@WillProwse No, I wasn't saying that should be a mod that would make buying this battery a good idea. But for those that might have already purchased one and are beyond a return period and have a bit of buyer's remorse. Also, it seems like the case uses screws, is it glued as well?

I was just typing that perhaps the wire was cut during tear down when you addressed it.
I just ordered two based on another review! Although he didn't open the case for inspection.
I ordered them as well on hobos review.. I hope they did a better job than this one
I'm picking up my 48V EG4 from Signature Solar tomorrow, the shipment just arrived!
Oh sweet!!! Lucky
Great maybe i will get mine before new year.?
@@davidkettell5726 Possibly, though their website say they are swamped. They have a received a giant shipment and have lots of orders to fulfill.
Nice detective work. We run into a lot of component shortages, probably accounts for lack of temp sensor.
Server rack batteries are where it's at. So easy to scale with a nice rack cabinet with common + and -. All in one to top it off. I live in Canada and our Amazon deal right now is Ecoworthy (brand), would be nice if you could review the 100Ah model.
Agreed. That's all I want for my system now. and the BMS in the rack batteries is fantastic. Communication, shunt and current regulation.
For off-grid it's perfect. The question is where to draw the line between on and off grid, as its regulated by different approvals/agencies. Would be nice for this type of equipment to conform to municipal requirements.
@T.J. Kong Horses for courses buddy. Building your own is still cheaper and more personal. For larger arrays, I'd rather have some warranty.
Show me a link. I am pretty sure that all these server rack batteries are made in the same plant and there is a huge backlog of orders right now because they cannot get enough children to show up for work!
Yeah but they're 48 volt. That's worse than useless.
I will never buy another battery unless I see a video with Will tearing it apart.
Always worth watching. Thanks!
Ampertime is still a better deal right now.. $369.99 and a $20.00 discount. $349.99 I'm thinking about getting my 4th Ampertime 100Ah Battery. Merry Christmas to ME !
Merry Christmas Will!
In your opinion. I am looking for a 12v battery for my trolling motor and i don't want to spend more than $350 and i don't necessarily need 100ah or the best battery just a reliable one.
Will: This battery sucks.
Me: I bought two.

AND THAT"S why your Tesla failed on first day. people who don't care on their craftsmanship. it happens in every trade. yes i commented when you mentioned the Dislike button have been disabled. That's what i like about you, You keep it real. we got your back
Would love to see the inside of a Battle Born Heated battery if you ever get bored!
He has a video on this.
@@B-kl8vj The new internally heated batteries they have? I will look again unless you have a link.
I got a cheap battery like this about a month ago. It was supposed to be an MJBSAN but it came as a Lisuateli. Thanks for these videos
Does the Lisuateli have low-temp charging control?
@@robertm2663 yes, people in the reviews have confirmed it.
Good content. Some other people’s videos are nothing more than paid advertising
I almost pulled the trigger on these at $364 each. Website said it had low temperature protection. Fortunately I waited and didn’t make a mistake.
Good to know I respect your advice when it comes to buying batteries. I am planning on purchasing some lithium iron batteries in the coming year to add to my solar grid.
I’m looking forward to your next videos. I always enjoy them.
Excellent reviews. Thank you for your consumer advocacy.
Love your impartial reviews.
Kinda curageous to keep your head so close to that experimental thing
I got myself a 14,000wh lifepo4 battery bank, 48vdc from Treeline Power systems for 3300 dollars. It's got enough capacity to keep the inverter running over night. They sell a rack cabinet steel box to support 3 of these battery banks. Nice storage solution for reasonable cost.
Great review Will, thanks much!
Thank you for reviewing this!! Been interested in these style batteries
HOBOTech made a review. It seemed to pass the muster but he was wafting for someone to rip this baby open! Thanks for keeping the industry on their toes.
Have you seen or checked the new Dr Prepare. Their going for $220. some sites $205. With BMS and high and low temp.
Funny opening splat! You have great vids and I learn a lot.
Would like to see you review the newer Dr Prepare with 12v Hub.
Lots of people leave a bad review just because they didn't pay attention to what they were buying lol. A truly troubled product typically has descriptive reviews.
As always unfiltered no nonsense review by Will😜
Once again you saved me money. Thank you
Thanks for opening the case on this unit.
Dr Prepare has a battery out with solar connectors built in.
Any chance of a tear down on that one?
Thanks.

Excellent video! Very informative. Extra thanks for getting right to the point!
Not having Low temp sensors seem to be a big problem in the battery industry. Are they that expensive or troublesome to install? I just don’t understand skipping them.
What are your thoughts on the new Dr. Prepare PowerMax with the hub/DC output? The idea is cool.
They have a new one that uses round cells and has low temp cutouts, wonder how it is inside?
Checked their site and it's going for 600$ not cheap at all. Sticking with SOK.
Hi there. Can you make a video with The 30 Amp mppt from victron? I don't understand where do you connect your load. And how to connect for The Street Light function to work. Thx! 🙂
If I don't take my RV anywhere cold I should be good???
I just ordered two of these four days ago. I wish I would have seen this first.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Buyer beware!
are they working well now?
Hey Will, What battery chemistry would you use to start a water well pump? How many cycles should I expect if I only discharge down to 20% and charge uo to 80%?
I glanced at the title and thought Dr. Pepper was making batteries now.
Doesn't Hobotech do paid reviews(commercials)?
@@B-kl8vj Some yes, some no.
Hi there,
Long time listener first time commenter.
Ruh ROH!
I just ordered two of their batteries (100ahs) with digital temperature gauges on them...
The Weiss batteries are listed for a premium ever since you did the review.
Can’t find em at a decent price anywhere
Thank you, Will.
Hi, so you say the high temp sensor isnt any use, what about for us in aus that only use the battery in summer and dont really have those kind of lows?
So good! Thanks for testing and posting.
Nicely done… as usual. Thank you.
Thank you for exposing this, I almost took the bait:')
Good and proper job.
Check this out I bought a life pro for whatever battery just like that only for and a bike It discharges only down to 25% and then the bike Shut off?

No, I wasn't saying that should be a mod that would make buying this battery a good idea. But for those that might have already purchased one and are beyond a return period and have a bit of buyer's remorse. Also, it seems like the case uses screws, is it glued as well?
