I need to bring this up because it's important; The Zeus is following a new method of balance. CIG mentioned this in a comment on Spectrum. The reason the Zeus seems so strong is because it's balanced for the NEW standard. This means that all OLDER ships will be receiving this new balance pass.
Interesting, and heartening. While the new ship is exciting, it IS more powerful, not just in any one way, but in the ways it is strong work together. It is just really well designed. It covers common use cases. The 4 shields, lower turret, superior sensors + smallish, low profile design, huge fuel tanks, oversized quantum drive, redundant systems, and a cargo bay for a decent sized vehicle or a good chunk of loot would make it... potentially the fastest, best sig to radar, ultra longestest distance ship in the game? And for all that, it's a flexible, Cutty-ish 1 to 3 person, live-aboardable, "do a little of everything," type ship, with some capabilities in excess of much larger ones. "Must have" ships suck. I'm getting one, but they suck. 😅
Yeah but it'll take a fuck ton of the time before they actually update the old ships, don't forget that this a lot of work and they'll prioritize something else so by the time they actually rework this well there might be another "new standard"
Keep in mind the 400i has those horrible pillars in the cargo hold which severely limits what you can do with it. The elevator is also garbo. limits what you can fit. The ramp? As long as it fits, it ships. With the new system? it will be way faster and easier to work on the Zeus due to the need to go between floors in the 400i. It seems to be more of a tradeoff for each of the features here. A size 3 component is 4x size 2 if I remember correctly. But the balance pass could change the 400i to bring the radars in line with each-other. Honestly it just comes down to preference. The Zeus reminds me of the cuttlass a little. I personally got an MR because I could see me and my friends messing around with it and having a lot of fun.
This has been on my mind today too. As an ex-400i owner it was the idea of blades controlling the 2 rear facing turrets, its size 3 shield, its star map and general looks which drew it to me. And now i miss it and think its a great ship for Pyro.
Great comparison video. The new Zeus has much to like, and will be an excellent daily driver for many who gravitate to RSI's tradition of practical, reliable engineering and striking design language. For my AUECs, the 400i is still the clear choice. Origin combines refinement with well thought out functionality, and I just love the 20 and 21st century Nautical lines reflected in her cleaving bow & pilothouse style cockpit. The aft galley, sitting area and stellar cartography table with that luxurious view is a favorite, as are the passerelle style boarding steps that extend beneath the bow. The hoverbike lazarette in the bow is a charming novelty, but I do still wish I could fit a Roc mining vehicle in the aft cargo hold. Both vessels hit the sweet spot with regard to size - neither lady being slender, they'll present close quarters challenges to helmsmanship that will be gratifying to overcome, yet still small and fast enough to be excellent choices as blockade/ data runners when those gameplay loops are introduced.
Finally, someone comparing a 3 crew ship against a 3 crew ship. I keep seeing C1 vs Mk2 C1 is 40% less and smaller crew theyre similar in size but the 400i is closer in function
Assuming the Zeus MkII has the Mantis-style interior, it will definitely will beat out the DUR for me (which it reminds me more of), and I’ve always felt RSI is a really underrated manufacturer. If Origin is the preppy socialite, and Drake is the counterculture punk rocker/metalhead, RSI is the well-respected professor.
4:38 By the way, the Aopoa Nox will fit in the garage bay. Just FYI. The big difference to me is the very design of the 400I. That long nose may cause grief when landing on challenging terrain.
400i has x2 remote turrets, meaning they can be bladed one day, thats a big plus, the ship isnt massive so you may be able to do engineering on your own so possibly could make a great solo ship.
The 400i has 3x S2 Radar, which means when scanning becomes more focused, the 400i may not have a better range than 1 S2 Radar, but it *will* be able to have 3 totally different kinds of scanners on board, potentially allowing it to scan for a wider variety of things at once, or maybe it a wider variety of ways. On the other hand, it looks like the Mkii has the scanner, fuel tank, and quantum drive of a ship like the Carrack or Starfarer, packed into a ship smaller than the Spirit C1. "See far, go far, go fast" is a mean pancake when you pack all that behind 4 shields.
I see this as a huge compliment to the Zeus. The Zeus is a medium S3 class vessel vs a class S4. Ive never been a Origin fan so the decision was easy for me. The Zeus is extremely efficient in the space it uses, while being smaller and punching above its weight.
I feel like this is something you neglected to mention that will have a huge effect on gameplay going forward, the 400i is a large ship, this means it cant go through medium or small sized Jump Points, leading to longer routes through star systems to get to your destination, compared to the Zeus MkII which is a medium sized ship, Which means it will have much shorter travel times in interstellar expeditions.
That’s a good point, I think I read another comment mentioning it as well. Something to consider for sure. I’m curious though if there will be non official large jump points that we can find and use since the Carrack has that ability. i don’t know if CIG has mentioned anything on that recently.
@@sorecgaming CIG mentioned "unofficial unstable back routes" In reference to additional intersystem jump points not noted on the ARK star map, we haven't heard anything about them since they where first mentioned, which was in 2020 iirc, and if they where still planned, I see them being quite dangerous, which in of itself is another thing to be concerned with in a larger ship.
Another factor, that could come in play later, is damages and repair: I'm planning to get rid of my 600i because it will become completely un-soloable, as an eventual rework would call for at least 4 crew members, just to keep the ship going. I guess it wont be much less demanding then a Carrak, once the rework is done, Both the Zeus ES and the 400i (which I upgraded) could be more solo friendly, but I'd bet the more cramped accommodations on the Zeus could become an advantage, the less crew you plan to use. I still think the idea of a separate X1 bay is great and let's not forget there is plenty of space around the 400i elevator to move stuff and keep the elevator itself available for a ground vehicle. Finally the docking port on the 400i comes handy, with a proper armoury room near it.
Wouldn’t ship size be an important consideration for an exploration ship? The Zeus may be able to use smaller jump points that will not be available to the larger 400i.
Pretty sure both will be using the same jump points. Both are medium ships and the 400i is really smaller than what he makes it out to be. The 400i is a medium size ship and in a landing bay looks smaller than the Andromeda. He made a mistake when he said it was a large size ship. The 600i is a large ship and the only large ship Origin offers.
@@michaelmichaelagnew8503 Where is the 400i listed as a medium ship? The matrix lists the 400i as “large”. I know the matrix is frequently unreliable but it’s still comparable to the Aquila in both length and mass.
@@scotterpop8812 i think they will eventually change it to medium since the actual large ships are allot longer. But yes it does say under specifications its a large ship but its dimensions like the andromeda are medium size. The specifications don’t make sense to me. If its a large ship the need to make the ship allot bigger like how the 600i and the carrack is since they are allot bigger. Shoot even the 600i uses almost all medium components but that ship os getting a rework.
@@michaelmichaelagnew8503I think we are discussing two different mechanics. CIG has repeatedly said the freelancer max is the largest ship that will be able to use small jump points. In the Zeus Q&A, CIG confirmed that the Zeus will also be able to use the smallest jump points. This mechanic is still under development and could certainly change. However, with our current understanding of jump points there can be little doubt that the 400i will not be able to use the smallest jump points as it is significantly longer and heavier than the largest confirmed ships able to use them. This may allow smaller ships to utilize the widest variety of travel routes making their journeys shorter and/or safer than the paths available to larger ships.
@@scotterpop8812 Im going to wait and see what they decide down the road. They keep on changing what they want. Once all this is set in stone ill worry about it then.
Although similar in metrics, I feel as if the 400i is in (almost) a different class from the Zeus ES. Has 2 floors, garage for bike, bespoke escape pods, 2 whole turrets with deep capacitors and WINDOWS (j/k on the last part). But seriously. The 400i appears to be a much nicer version of the Zeus. Hopefully, the price of the Zeus should reflect that. As it sits, the 400i is the fastest single Size 3 shield ship in the game. By a decent margin, no less.
the ursa : 5.5m ; the Fury : 5.4m. - The fury can be stored in Nomad : in 2x(3x4) SCU . - The Zeus' ramp seems to be the size of a 4 SCU than the storage area. (1 SCU = 1,25m + the space between the SCUs ) ► May be, we can stored a Ursa in Zeus
You can fit a cyclone in a 400i, can't you? It can't fit the Ursa, but I think that's just because of the height it sits when landed. They did raise it so it could fit in, but then a vocal minority complained and they lowered it again 😢
I’m making same choice. I think the Zeus will end up being better for actually making discoveries and ones further out. The best explorers all have the expedition title and the ones named touring always make sacrifices to make the trip more comfortable.
This was a hard choice for me... save some money, an "almost" comp to the 400i, and modern RSI looks. But the dedicated X1 and size 3 shield sealed the deal. Not to say I won't ever change my mind as SC continues to become more feature rich, the fleet keeps fluctuating.
My issue is once you put a vehicle in the Zeus ER you have no cargo. The 400i has 48 CU and a Cylone barely fits. A Mule is too tall I believe so that leaves an STV which does fit nicely and leaves some cargo space....then you also have a bike garage on the 400i. So could skip a 'car'. The Zeus ER looks great apart from it's cargo of 32 SCU I suspect the option is going to be ground vehicle OR cargo.
Well with many ships they often increase in size from concept to accommodate basic things like this. I personally think it might get a bit larger. I'm sure you could fit some cargo it it with vehicle, and for an expedition you're still going to fit all the food/supplies you could need within the interior storage, and stack those small scu boxes everywhere, akin to a german u-boat in ww2 when it's fresh out leaving on a new patrol with food everywhere. I love the 400, I just don't think it's going to give me a higher chance of making actual discoveries than the zeus ES. I'm pretty sure it also has a larger volume of Qauntum fuel so theres another reason why you're more likely to make those discoveries. It's a hard matchup, and the 400i still does a lot of things better - it's components can probably expect a longer life with that climate controlled location. I'd def pick the 400i if i my plan was to just go somewhere and enjoy a long trip enjoying views. But go with the zeus if you're looking to get your name down in the sc hstory books and be the first person to step foot on that planet.@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418
@@jde-jj1lu you know the 400i is classed as a large ship. Lots of ships are going to have their stats updated. Currently you have the 400i and Aquila marked as large vessels without large components .. .while a medium explorer in the class below does.......That's going to be changing as the stats changes filter through.
Others have addressed this but the zeus is a freelancer competitor. That you felt it was good enough to compete with the 400i is a huge reason to buy it. But if you want something bigger the 400i is really up against the Aquila. For me the size of the Zeus is what won me over its just a little bigger than the freelancer and cutty but still easy to park.
I truly think the 400i sits between the Aquila and DUR, that’s just my opinion. But with that in mind, gives some context in why I was deciding between the two. I’m typically a solo player but want a capable exploration ship.
@sorecgaming I honestly think this ship is the first actual cutty killer. Everything else has been too compromised in some way to reach the balance. This ship does it by being a bit fatter but not too much. And I suspect at least on release not use too much more fuel. As you note, an important consideration with pyro. The 400 sits in a odd space but it is far more like the constellation than the medium ships it sits above. Personally I hate origin style on the bigger ships, but I know many love them. I think the 400 is more like a tourer than a pure exploration ship. Like the 890 it's about experience and enjoying the trip as much as the destination. Personally I just want something more "blue collar" a work horse if you will.
All fair points. I like modern industrial style myself. I may still end up with a mostly RSI fleet. I really wish CIG would allow origin to tap more into industrial or military. Mercedes has trucks and work vehicles, I feel like they can pull it off in lore.
That's what CIG wanted to make us believe but no. I own a 400i and I love it but any Constellation performs better in almost every way. The 400i it's a luxury and better Freelancer DUR, but no match for the Connies.
The scanner is designed to read/intercept transmissions and maybe detect ships better than average ship. It's not going to be good at finding wormholes/planets or organic life like an actual exploration scanner like the aquilla/ES/Carrack.
I have a large fleet of ships, this video is exactly the situation I have been considering and leaning towards both. I own both ships now. Originally had the Freelancer Dur due to the unique size for the largest ship to fit in the smallest worm hole. The 400i is a very comfortable ship. Awesome captain quarters and lots of areas for décor items which are not available in most ships. All of the components for the 400i are all housed in the "Beer Cave". I also really love the the whole layout of the ship also with the halo table, which we saw a brief concept on another ship in the Citizen Con videos. As per the RSI website, "To explore the stars is a most noble endeavor, and Origin Jumpworks has risen to the occasion in crafting the 400i, the ultimate high-performance pathfinder.". For myself, I will leave a Zeus in the buy back and hang onto the 400i as the daily driver and small jump point explorer. The only draw back is the limited amount of space for cargo. I would love to see a cargo grid layout around the vehicle bay in the 400i. I just makes sense. Great video, thank you.
The deciding factor for me will probably be the handling. I know they've said the Zeus will not be as quick or maneuverable as the Spirit, but if it's more maneuverable than the 400i I will probably go with that.
I have both ships. I think the 400i will still be my preferred solo ship where I need speed and durability to get me out of complicated scenarios where I can't stand and fight as one person. Also the luxury aspect of it makes me treat it more like my personal home away from home (when I'm not flying my Carrack). I have the Zeus-MR, the bounty hunter variant with quantum interdiction. That ship is the one I'd prefer to use when I have a small group of friends playing with me. It's more accessible by more players, the turret placement is better for general combat (whereas the 400i has their turrets placed to the rear for fending off pursuers), and the interdiction adds a layer of gameplay with friends that the 400i doesn't necessarily excel in. If I have more than two friends with me, I'll then just call up my Carrack for larger multi-crew functions.
I think the rear turrets on the 400i are probably best as PDS turrets. So blading them makes sense. If I was going to fly around with friends I agree I would use a Zues-MR or maybe something else.
RSI Zeus MKII is a médium ship. 400i is a Large ship. Perhaps there will be a significant difference in maneuverability between the two (and/or in mass) ? Good maneuverability and excellent shield regeneration provide great endurance in large-scale battles. More than an L-sized shield, but less in duels (vs Corsair for exemple). A single well-armed 2S3 turret instead of two 2S2 turrets frees up a crew member to repair the ship without losing firepower. its turret is useful for excellent firepower when flying over an area. This makes for a well-balanced ship. Even though having +1 beds would have been practical to accommodate at firefighter-medic while others are busy piloting, shooting, or repairing. But perhaps modules will allow this in the future. +3 bed for 2 scoots and 1 firefighter-medic-scientific.
400i is a medium ship with medium components he made a mistake in the video calling it a large ship. The 600i is Origins large ship. The 400i does have a size 3 shield, but the other same size multi role medium ships have the same size shield.
UPDATE: imagine the Zeus will hold a NURSA, knowing the 400i cannot... Would you still go roaming the Verse in a 400i knowing any accident would ruin your progress while a Zeus ES would always bring you back, adding a useful ground vehicle (environment sealed and armed) as a bonus?
If the URSA fits, you have a point. I suspect the biggest ground vehicle that will fit a Zeus is a cyclone. The other side of that POV is we still don’t know what changes CIG is bringing with DOS, so we’ll have to wait and see. Also, a full crewed 400i could be just as effective having a medic on staff.
Been pondering this a lot this IAE, especially since these ships are very comparable. I have a 400i through CCUs, but may use it for further upgrades if the Zeus ES turns out to be as good for what I will do with it. But I will buying a Zeus ES now with melt currency and melt it so I can keep it in my buy back log at the current price. Something I did with the Hull C at $250 and that ship has increased to $500. There is so much time between now and when this game goes to "release" and we might have to lock in our purchases, that I'm sure new ships will give me new choices to make, but keeping the option of ships in the buy back inventory in addition to various CCUs is how I treat the Zeus and other ships. In the meantime I do love the few Origin ships I have.
I follow the same approach with my ships, I have a ton of buy backs. Like you said, so much can change from here to when release. Appreciate the comment 👍🏼
I have a zeus Mk II es pledge. I did have a 400i but upgraded it as it was pointless. Very limited roles for it and the terrible FOV. I currently own a caterpillar and 600i Explorer. I think once the 600i gets it's rework it will become the ultimate ship.
Yeah I hear ya. Ultimately for me, the 400i feels more manageable than the 600i as mostly a solo player. I would even say equally manageable to the Zeus, hence why I compared the two. I plan on keeping the Galaxy as a permanent ship with my fleet due to its modularity, and think if CIG releases an explorer module for the Galaxy then it'll negate eventually upgrading my 400i to the 600i. I do have a 400i to 600i upgrade in my buy-back just in case :D.
I’ve opted for the Zeus ES as I really like the efficient internal design as well as overall look of the ship. The 400i will be fine but has too many nonsensical design flaws that gimp what it could have been. The X-1 bay should be accessible internally for one thing. Not gonna go all crazy about it though. You made a fine comparison. Curious how you’d compare the Zeus to the Dur or the Aquila.
Yeah I would have to do some research on the DUR and Aquila, but just base on my experience with both ships, I think they're great. Knowing what their potential will be with the new scanning tech and gold pass, it'll be another tough decision for sure.
@@sorecgaming I have three exploration ships in my hangar: Aquila, Zeus MK II ES and a 315p. I feel they’re different enough where having all three will be worthwhile.
I own a 400i but for me, I would always prefer a ramp to an elevator. You cannot get a ROC into a 400i because there is not enough clearance while the Zeus could have the headroom to do it. Something else to consider while looking at access is that the 400i passenger ramp and elevator are both so slow that it is faster to get aboard and take-off in an MSR with its many doors than by using either entrance on the 400i. Also, while considering that the 400i has an extra turret you should also consider that one of those is rear facing only. Personally I don't think the X1 is going to be much use for exploration as it is open to the elements so you would probably have to bring a Mule anyway and the Zeus will hold a Rover which is much better. What the 400i does have is the speed to avoid combat. We don't know how fast the Zeus will be but I don't think it will be as fast as the 400i.
A lot of fair points. I too wish the ROC would fit in the 400i and prefer ramp over elevator. Since the 400i has two rear face remote turrets, I assume these can be AI blades in the future making more worthy of a solo ship. The rover & X1 cons are valid points but I’m ok with that sacrifice.
I find using the entrance to the 400i to be very fast compared to the MSR (which uses an elevator just like the 400i though not as efficient). I think the only problem is the elevator issue where it malfunctions. But it goes down instantly and goes up instantly so it's very fast. You also have half the doors to open up in the 400i when getting to the cockpit which is only 2 compared to the MSR's 4 (Might be 3 but it's been a while since I used it.) I also can't stand trying to land the MSR in Third person cause those engines are so blinding that I can't see much at night. There are allot of other things I can point out but I'm not going to bother. The 400i is also faster than the MSR. In fact the 400i is almost as fast as small fighters except in maneuverability.
Two very different ships. The Freelancer Dur is a better, morirect comparison to the Zeus Ezs; the Corsair or Connie Aqula are more direct 400i competitors. Though based on intent (Origin ship being a luxury tourer vz. Exploration ships) only other touring ships are E1 Spirit and 600i
Yeah I briefly touched on this towards the end and can be a deciding factor. May still be for me if I decide on swapping around ships in my fleet. But I think IAE will be bring an RSI mining ship which I’m hoping to add.
I'm a little late for this video, but here is my take. The drake cutter scout is on the new metrics and is confirmed to have a size 2 radar. That same Q&A verified that the terrapin indeed has the same radar as the cutter scout. That announcement has effectively rendered the stats page for the terrapin obsolete, which said it had two size one radars. Therefore, the 400i radar must be size 3 or greater when we take into consideration the new metrics of the Zeus Mk II ES. Especially when its been declared as the competitor to two larger exploration ships in its own Q&A, and the size 2 scanners being associated with single seat ships. We can conclude that it cannot have a radar greater than that of the corsair or aquila. This is further supported by mining ship components and how they balanced the size of those against total crew requirement.
I dont think the 400i is going to have a particularly impressive radar. The type of radar is also important to remember. My understanding is the type of scanner on the terrapin & scout are kitted out to located ships and such, not spacial anomalies, planetary/organic objects and such. The real explorers with real explorer capabilities are labelled 'expedition'. One's labelled touring are often not as good as finding things, they're more made to explore things already found in comfort or survey. If you think the 400i is going to have scanners on par with the zeus ES i think you will be disappointed.
6:30 I'm not sure if I would consider the more turrets that valueable on the 400i, they are both placed in the back and have very limited firing arcs only covering the rear essentially, whereas the one under the zeus ES can cover half a sphere due to it being under the ship and the ship being kinda flat, so it's a lot more likely to have targets to engage resulting in more uptime. I also like both ships, but I ended up upgrading my 400i to 600i and went with the zeus MR since I didn't have an emp / quantum dampener / prisoner pod ship yet.
Fair point. I wouldn't want to really go on the offense with the 400i or ES unless necessary, but in that scenario the turrets give you a little bit more insurance in my opinion, having top and bottom rear coverage as you try to get away. Fun discussion though.
@@sorecgaming hmm some of the "exploration" ships aren't that bad tho, 600i is technically exploration, but is one of the best mission runners atm, corsair also technically exploration, same thing, great for combat, even the exploration constellation is still great for combat. I'd very much still consider the 400i for combat thanks to it's huge shield capacity.
@@XeonzsI think with master modes incoming the 400i might get popular as a running away ship just due to its speed. The Zeus is apparently not that fast or manouverable which would explain the uppoed shields on the ER and apparently additional armour on the MR.
@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418 if running away then I guess the backwards facing turrets have a bit higher value that my original perspective. However all 3 currently playable QT dampening ships have both a higher SCM and max speed than the 400i and these are the kind of ships I'd expect to be pirating, so their prey can't get away. At that point it becomes an issue of having the crew to man those turrets, which if you're running away probably aren't. At that point you're better off in an Andromeda, same shield, double the cargo, double the overall ship health, more than double the pilot firepower. It does have 40% less QT fuel and 20% less turret DPS, but it also costs 10 dollars less or 3 million less in-game. (This is all comparing stock loadouts) I really like the 400i when I first started out and buying ships, but as time went on I felt like it didn't provide good value for the cost, the one thing it offered was it's looks which I personally think are superb, but it's the same reason I melted my odyssey, having that much money in a ship just cause it looks cool but I'll never use is just a waste, at least for me.
@@Xeonzs We'll see but I suspect running the QD will mean diverting power from the engines guns, etc. CIG seem to be going heavily down the resource management route so that is an obvious way to balance those ships. CR wants a counter to everything.
@sorecgaming Now that is a good point. I have a Raft as well. Depending on just how the 32 scu crates work on it, maybe it can be replaced with the CL and become something else in the future.
The Aquila is a great ship (the Connie series for that matter). I believe once CIG does a gold pass, it’ll be one of the best ships in that category. The Zeus offers a smaller size trade off, which makes sense if you’re mostly solo. I’m trying to down size my fleet to ships that can be handled with 1-3 crew. I think a lot of players are under estimating the need for crew on these bigger ships.
nice video. I am a bit torn between them, but also leaning towards the 400i. Problem is I have too many ships already, should likely melt something (but how? how!?). Cheers man!
I always push new players to buy the avenger titan or origin 315p. You don’t need anything else to play the game. But if you do want then I would say playing the game and buying the ship. Now the zues isnt available at the moment. Making money is easy at the moment. If you don’t enjoy fighting and you will always run then the 400i will work just like the 315p. These ships will be easy to jumps out of danger. Buying the zues at the moment will get you a C1 loaner. The zues line up looks amazing and fresh. Everything in the zues has a reason behind it. I would choose a zues line up however I also believe that the freelancer Max is a cheaper alternative. I played with a freelancer max for years. Now I’m working on my gold sniper *sigh* 😢
Another problem is RSI removed exploration from the 400i on the ship matrix, now it is only Touring. Still wondering if they will release a 400i explorer variant. I own a 400i and use it as a transport and for running some missions. With the new standards have to wait for them all to be updated...
If you're hoping to make actual discoveries in star citizen, in deep space, the key word you want in a ship is 'expedition'. Forget exploration or touring. Expedition.
Well for one it will have a worse radar than the ES. Shorter fuel range than ES. ES has escape pods. Corsair can carry bigger/ better vehicles and more cargo. Don't take corsair if you're hoping to actually discover something.
With recent nerf of the 400i, the lines are a bit more blurry on which I’d prefer. I still think the 400i is the better ship, I just don’t know if it still makes more sense for me as a mostly solo player. One ship I have yet to add into the equation is the Freelancer DUR, maybe another video down the line.
@@sorecgaming Since getting the ES i dont fly my 400i or msr or connie andro anymore. Something about the layout and efficiency of the ES that just feels better than my other med to large ships with the exception of my cutty black. The ES checks all the boxes with few exceptions and in a smaller foot print. I REALLY didnt want to like the zeus but here I am flying it daily now. Im not a fan of the looks at all but i'll take function over form anyday.
I'd grab the Zeus basically because it's gorgeous, the 400i is fugly to my eyes, the whole "looks like a yatch" thing really didn't resonate to me. I do like other Origin ships, but this was a huge miss to me. That said, I got a Zus CL upgrade from my C1 stored and a Corsair already, so the Corsair will be my middle exploration ship until I can grab a Carrack.
That's something I love about the idea of different ship brands and styles, everyone has different preferences so having an option that best fits what you're looking for is cool.
The Zeus offers a lot at a compelling price point, but the 400i providing more shields, armor, and firepower all-in-one for a bit more is a worthwhile tradeoff. You would have to handpick between the three current Zeus variants to maximize any one of those aspects (losing out on the others). There will likely be a slight penalty on the 400i in that it cannot squeeze through some of the Zeus' smaller jump points, but as a more diversified option, it's likely the one you'd want as a 'do everything' ship.
Why cant we have a rugged looking exploration ship like the Millennium Falcon??? Both these ships look very clean and smart, especially the 400i which looks like a smaller 890 in terms of looking like a small fancy Yacht for the super rich. I dont want this look when exploring.....
One problem I have with the 400I garage is that you get ONE bike for THREE crew. So no way to go on a good adventure with your friends and use all the capabilities of your ship.
Very fair point. If I was with a crew we would have to sacrifice the cargo bay with a STV or cyclone. Or another scenario could be that the X1 simply serves as a scout and reports to the crew.
In theory, couldn't you manually move additional X1s off of the cargo lift, but into the area immediately off of the cargo lift? I seem to recall that there are 4 "pillars" inside of the ship next to the lift, with some component access or such along the walls. The X1 may be thin enough to "just" fit in there and therefore not take up extra space from the cargo? Hm. I don't own the ship, so I can't easily check and this is based on memory from exploring the ship awhile back.
You can put more bikes in the hold if you want. It's no less usable than the Zeus in that regard, except you already have more cargo area *and* gain the additional nose compartment as well.
@@redslate I didn't mean to infer that the 400i is LESS usable in that regard. Just that that singular feature does not quite work for me. Should have been quite obvious since the Zeus doesn't even have a dedicated bike garage to start with though.
CIG just nerfed the crap out of any existing ships, that might have looked better, than the newly baked cookie cutter batch. Anyone believe, that these got nerfed into oblivion for any real game play reason? hahahaha! Its all about money... FOMO is not enough anymore, folks...
I suspect your not really matching ships right. CIG said all older ships getting adjusted equipment wise....and the zeus on paper seems to match but actually it will be a cutlass match..with the cutlass outgunning it. The zeus ES price point matches Cutlass. But probably have to wait and see....but i bet the 400i is going to have a couple if not 3 size 3 shields ...
I actually just got a reclaimer recently for the first time lol. Looking to see if it’s a permanent addition to the fleet. It sucks that you can’t currently dock with it at stations. Makes it a pain to retrieve it. I tried bed logging but it seems bugged.
One ship isn’t even in the game, and both ships specialize in a game loop that IS NOT EVEN IN THE GAME. It’s not even on their roadmap for development. What are we even doing here? Wake up man.
😆 I’m talking about Star Citizen, a game many are enthusiastic about lol… The exploration game loop I believe you’re referring to, will be a combination of several mechanics already in development. You most likely won’t see “exploration” on the road map. Also, the Zeus will be released in a few months. I’ve woken up lol
@@sorecgamingfor these ships, or any exploration ship, they just need scanning (they are working on it) Once scanning is finalised it will enable this gaming loop and data running. The ships will excel in something or another vs each other.
Mate the Zeus es has been in development for months… Greg box started and was announced months ago and before your comment was stated to be coming with a release date of 4.0. Wake up.
I own both and the only thing the MSR is better at is that it can fit almost any small vehicle in it while the 400i is limited to the Drake Mule which is kind of Ironic (Its enclosed and can carry cargo) and the X1. Outside of that the 400i is better than the MSR in every way. It's super-fast and pretty agile for its size and it can hang with most fighters when it comes to speed, but not maneuverability of course. Better defenses and much easier to get into. Has allot of redundant systems in it which will be important in places like pyro. Having 3 power plants and 3 coolers will make a big difference when one goes out or gets knocked out by pirates or from natural phenomenon's like what goes on in pyro. Don't forget its two turrets in the back can be turned into point defense systems once we are able to put computers in them. It's my daily driver and I use it for most missions unless I need something smaller or something that packs more of a punch. Tried to like the MSR but couldn't. It's the poor man's ship compared to the 400i, and almost useless for now unless you really need to carry a few small ground vehicles which the 400i can carry two anyways. You just have to be more choosy.
If you're playing with 4 to 5 friends, the Carrack is better hands down. Solo though I prefer the 400i. I've tried every other medium ship and I always go back to the 400i. Looking forward to the 600i rework since I own the exploration variant. I don't know if it will be as good as the Carrack but it's supposed to be Origins version of the Carrack.
"Should I spend hundreds on a ship that exists or one that doesn't exist to do a thing we know nothing about yet?" CR is selling LARP, not pixel ships. He's selling LARP daydreams.
I need to bring this up because it's important; The Zeus is following a new method of balance. CIG mentioned this in a comment on Spectrum. The reason the Zeus seems so strong is because it's balanced for the NEW standard. This means that all OLDER ships will be receiving this new balance pass.
That's a great point and maybe when it's all said and done, 3/4 shields will be common for that size ship but we'll have to wait and see.
Ok, that's good to know. Though I am worried about power creep.
So basically buy what's looks cool.
Well 600i ccu savings 😁
I keep seeing C1 vs Mk2
C1 is 40% less and smaller crew theyre similar in size but the 400i is closer in function
The DUR has such great capacitor and fuel levels, tends to be underrated imo. But yeah RSI for sure is winning me over with all the latest ships.
Whats crusader then?
@@alexblend4751 who? ;)
I think the Carrack has two large radars and MKii has one large, but yeah interesting point for sure.
I see this as a huge compliment to the Zeus. The Zeus is a medium S3 class vessel vs a class S4.
Ive never been a Origin fan so the decision was easy for me. The Zeus is extremely efficient in the space it uses, while being smaller and punching above its weight.
I feel like this is something you neglected to mention that will have a huge effect on gameplay going forward,
the 400i is a large ship, this means it cant go through medium or small sized Jump Points, leading to longer routes through star systems to get to your destination, compared to the Zeus MkII which is a medium sized ship, Which means it will have much shorter travel times in interstellar expeditions.
I guess it wont be much less demanding then a Carrak, once the rework is done,
Both the Zeus ES and the 400i (which I upgraded) could be more solo friendly, but I'd bet the more cramped accommodations on the Zeus could become an advantage, the less crew you plan to use. I still think the idea of a separate X1 bay is great and let's not forget there is plenty of space around the 400i elevator to move stuff and keep the elevator itself available for a ground vehicle.
Finally the docking port on the 400i comes handy, with a proper armoury room near it.
ES has docking port too.
As a 400i owner, the one thing that attracts me about the Zeus ES, is the fact that the RSI ship can take an URSA Rover in the back.
You think ES will fit Ursa? They said cyclone sized vehicle. But you can fit cyclone in the back of A1 so I think and hope that ES will fit Ursa
@@petrcoufal1747 My mistake... I meant Cyclone.
the ursa : 5.5m ; the Fury : 5.4m.
- The fury can be stored in Nomad : in 2x(3x4) SCU .
- The Zeus' ramp seems to be the size of a 4 SCU than the storage area. (1 SCU = 1,25m + the space between the SCUs )
► May be, we can stored a Ursa in Zeus
No way its clearing that door if you look up the cyclone image the wheels look like it will barely clear the door@@fea665
I'm still willing to bet it's got better scanners than the 400i.@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418
Solid presentation, buffed my stance as a 400i owner. Thx
Neither, MSR :D
- Runs data
- Scans
- Solid multi-crew
- Contraband Cargo
- Solid cargo hold in general
- Quant tanks the size of texas
The scanner is designed to read/intercept transmissions and maybe detect ships better than average ship. It's not going to be good at finding wormholes/planets or organic life like an actual exploration scanner like the aquilla/ES/Carrack.
@@jde-jj1lu They should have multiple variants tbf
400i is so nice. Love the corvette style and two floor interior.
Glad you enjoyed it! I feel the same about the cargo space with the 400i.
I can be one of your crew members
I also have a 400i & Carrack for the same reasons, thinking on the CL to go thru the small jump points, but after the Q&A.
I hope so. I remember CIG stating that biggest that will fit MSR was a cyclone but upon release..
400i is listed now for Touring. Zeus for Expedition, so differing roles.
I like the non-combat ships coming out lately
Two very different ships. The Freelancer Dur is a better, morirect comparison to the Zeus Ezs; the Corsair or Connie Aqula are more direct 400i competitors. Though based on intent (Origin ship being a luxury tourer vz. Exploration ships) only other touring ships are E1 Spirit and 600i
Zeus ES is also $100 cheaper on the website from memory so you can put that money towards another ship or ground vehicle if you wanted.
Yeah I briefly touched on this towards the end and can be a deciding factor. May still be for me if I decide on swapping around ships in my fleet. But I think IAE will be bring an RSI mining ship which I’m hoping to add.
Broh that video is a really good rivew... I had so many questions.
No contest for me, I just love the 400i.
(This is all comparing stock loadouts)
I really like the 400i when I first started out and buying ships, but as time went on I felt like it didn't provide good value for the cost, the one thing it offered was it's looks which I personally think are superb, but it's the same reason I melted my odyssey, having that much money in a ship just cause it looks cool but I'll never use is just a waste, at least for me.
@@Xeonzs We'll see but I suspect running the QD will mean diverting power from the engines guns, etc. CIG seem to be going heavily down the resource management route so that is an obvious way to balance those ships. CR wants a counter to everything.
This is making me want to get a 600i Explorer.
When the 600i rework gets done, I may very well CCU the 400i to it. Just waiting to see it completed first.
A solid comparison and review very nice. Thank you for sharing 🪐
For me personally, I grabbed the Bounty hunter and Cargo variants. Passed on the ES since I have a 400i as well as a 600iE.
I replaced my RAFT with the CL (as badly as I wanted the RAFT to work with my gameplay) it simply didn’t fit the bill.
@sorecgaming Now that is a good point. I have a Raft as well. Depending on just how the 32 scu crates work on it, maybe it can be replaced with the CL and become something else in the future.
Great video, might be worth an update considering they just changed the 400i’s load out significantly
I think you’re right, just gotta find some time for it. Thanks for watching!
the price difference is massive, which to me, closes the surprisingly small gap significantly.
I'm kind of up in the air between the Zeus ES and the Connie Aquila
The Aquila is a great ship (the Connie series for that matter). I believe once CIG does a gold pass, it’ll be one of the best ships in that category. The Zeus offers a smaller size trade off, which makes sense if you’re mostly solo. I’m trying to down size my fleet to ships that can be handled with 1-3 crew. I think a lot of players are under estimating the need for crew on these bigger ships.
nice video. I am a bit torn between them, but also leaning towards the 400i. Problem is I have too many ships already, should likely melt something (but how? how!?). Cheers man!
I hear ya, I melted like four recently and have my buy back tokens, trying to simplify my fleet. But let’s see what IAE brings 😬
One more factor that you can add is cockpit visibility
Expedition.
Zeus is better for entering. Zeus has ramp near cockpit. And ramp is better than elevator. Many vehicles aren't able to det onto the elevator.
How does the corsair compare to them both
Well for one it will have a worse radar than the ES. Shorter fuel range than ES. ES has escape pods. Corsair can carry bigger/ better vehicles and more cargo. Don't take corsair if you're hoping to actually discover something.
Now that the Zeus is out, which do you prefer?
400i also has garage for x1 bike
The Zeus offers a lot at a compelling price point, but the 400i providing more shields, armor, and firepower all-in-one for a bit more is a worthwhile tradeoff. You would have to handpick between the three current Zeus variants to maximize any one of those aspects (losing out on the others).
There will likely be a slight penalty on the 400i in that it cannot squeeze through some of the Zeus' smaller jump points, but as a more diversified option, it's likely the one you'd want as a 'do everything' ship.
I still have an old Hornet, so we'll see I suppose
Why cant we have a rugged looking exploration ship like the Millennium Falcon??? Both these ships look very clean and smart, especially the 400i which looks like a smaller 890 in terms of looking like a small fancy Yacht for the super rich. I dont want this look when exploring.....
Drake Corsair?
One problem I have with the 400I garage is that you get ONE bike for THREE crew. So no way to go on a good adventure with your friends and use all the capabilities of your ship.
Very fair point. If I was with a crew we would have to sacrifice the cargo bay with a STV or cyclone. Or another scenario could be that the X1 simply serves as a scout and reports to the crew.
You can have 2 STVs in the back
In theory, couldn't you manually move additional X1s off of the cargo lift, but into the area immediately off of the cargo lift?
Great vid :) I subscribed ! Can you compare the CL to the MAX ? ty
Thanks for the idea! Will look into it 👍🏼
CIG just nerfed the crap out of any existing ships, that might have looked better, than the newly baked cookie cutter batch.
Anyone believe, that these got nerfed into oblivion for any real game play reason? hahahaha!
Its all about money... FOMO is not enough anymore, folks...
for explo i choose the carrack
I suspect your not really matching ships right. CIG said all older ships getting adjusted equipment wise....and the zeus on paper seems to match but actually it will be a cutlass match..with the cutlass outgunning it. The zeus ES price point matches Cutlass. But probably have to wait and see....but i bet the 400i is going to have a couple if not 3 size 3 shields ...
the powercreep ofc zeus
My reclaimer is my exploration ship lol
I actually just got a reclaimer recently for the first time lol. Looking to see if it’s a permanent addition to the fleet. It sucks that you can’t currently dock with it at stations. Makes it a pain to retrieve it. I tried bed logging but it seems bugged.
@@sorecgaming just be patience. If you are a backer of CIG, we all possess great patience at this point.
Let me solve this for you. The 400i looks cooler.
There is nothing to explore.
its gotta be Corsair, let's go big dick boys
One ship isn’t even in the game, and both ships specialize in a game loop that IS NOT EVEN IN THE GAME. It’s not even on their roadmap for development. What are we even doing here? Wake up man.
😆 I’m talking about Star Citizen, a game many are enthusiastic about lol… The exploration game loop I believe you’re referring to, will be a combination of several mechanics already in development. You most likely won’t see “exploration” on the road map. Also, the Zeus will be released in a few months. I’ve woken up lol
@@sorecgamingfor these ships, or any exploration ship, they just need scanning (they are working on it)
Once scanning is finalised it will enable this gaming loop and data running.
The ships will excel in something or another vs each other.
Mate the Zeus es has been in development for months… Greg box started and was announced months ago and before your comment was stated to be coming with a release date of 4.0. Wake up.
I just wanted to point out a mistake in the video; the Zeus ES does in fact have one size 3 turret with size 2 weapons on the underneath of the ship 😅
They are doing away with the minus 1 system, so it will actually be a size 3 turret with size 3 guns
I want see you Explore with out a medbay
Did you comment twice on the same video…. Go outside bro
Your precious med bay won't be a magical respawn device forever ;)
zeus>400i everytime. 400i is hot garbage at literally everything
The mr is way better than the 400.sorry.
L take
@@jde-jj1lu I own all the ships. Prove me wrong.
@@akalaification Prove you wrong? It’s like me saying the cutty is better than the prospector lol
I own a Carrack I don't care
If you're playing with 4 to 5 friends, the Carrack is better hands down. Solo though I prefer the 400i. I've tried every other medium ship and I always go back to the 400i. Looking forward to the 600i rework since I own the exploration variant. I don't know if it will be as good as the Carrack but it's supposed to be Origins version of the Carrack.
Bravo?
