Yep it is such a mixed bag. The ship is beautiful and well made. But it makes so many older ships look painfully out of date. Edit: And realizing how much more work they have ahead of them to gold pass those ships plus the large concept backlog.

    • @joelellis7035
      @joelellis7035 21 минуту назад

Yep! With how much CIG was able to fit into such a small form factor compared to the Constellation, it really makes you realize how much wasted space there is in the Constellation, particularly in the bridge section.

In my opinion, the Zeus is one of the - if not the - best made ships in the entire game so far. Not only that it's damn beautiful but also how it was built in the inside... Logical, no waste of space, the MFDs are placed senseful in front of the struts, so they don't block the sight, the ladder down in the front, the storage, the landing lights... I could go on but you get the point. So damn well done, CIG, great job!!!

    • @NokiaLuke
      @NokiaLuke 5 часов назад +2

Well, I get what You are saying, however, the airlock ladder, or entire room is not as good as is should.
Same goes for cargo bay, the C1 has ramp, and doors, which work as airlock. ZEUS dont.
I still like it, and have the MR, hope it will be out soon :D

Yeah I love the design, I only have issue with Zeus ES - the living quarters should be much better compared to CL... but no, you get a bench and that's it (and a bit more kitchen space)... I find that underwhelming, almost makes me lose my interest in getting the ES variant (roleplaying reasons).
I just can't imagine a long range expedition in it - it at least should have had a sofa and table in the living habitat, for a crew to sit around on a long quantum jump :D

    • @sirglogglubardons150

    2 things:
1, they have already fixed the seat priority to leave the control in the pilots hands at all times if the seat is in use. Not manual control, but better than random priority.
And 2, the CL only has 3 shield Generators. The ES is the only variant with 4.

I love RSI design language. Sleek, angular and sharp, without having any edge lord vibe that most other sharp designs have in other games.
RSI basically has all the best parts of Aegis, Drake and Crusader.
    Aegis sturdiness and functionality.
    Drake utility and practicality.
    Crusader sleekness and elegance.
With the exception of the conny (i hate the shape of the conny front half), RSI has probably my favorite design language

    • @Rangar1959
      @Rangar1959 4 часа назад +1

Well, in case of the Conny you can see, that it is one of the oldest ships in the game. CIG has learned a lot since then. Maybe they will find the time one day for a complete rework of ships like Constellation, Freelancer, Starfarer and other old ships.

I already bought a Zeus ES. Also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but the bunks are also escape pods. If you look at the underside of the Zeus, you'll see two hatches labelled "escape pod." There are right under the bunks. I didn't see a way to seal the bunks, so I'm guessing that CIG will still need to work on the Zeus when escape pods become a thing.

I pledged for the ES at last year's Citizen Con. I weighed the ES or the CL and decided I didn't need the extra cargo of the CL because I have a LTI Concept Hull B that I'm waiting for.
Anyway, I popped into the PTU yesterday and walked around and looked at my ES. I haven't had the time to take it out yet, but just walking around it I was reminded of another ship: the Aegis Dynamics Avenger Titan, which I also have. The Zeus Mk2 ES is like a multi-crew version of the Avenger Titan. A cockpit, living quarters, and a cargo bay that isn't very big but seems just right anyway.

it is always stunning to see how CIG improves on the craft of making these ships
the actual functionality of them with every little detail which in a lesser game would just be pointless detailing more times then not are actual things that do something.
like the missile door opening and closing
    the side hatch opening up
the thrusters (something they have been doing for a while but they are actually logically placed)
landing gear doors, counter measure doors, fueling doors, hatches inside for guns and storage and components...
like it just feels like so much is thought out in a way that makes these vehicles feel so much more real then vehicles in other games.
    TRUELY impressive gotta say

I finally got to test fly it, and it's definitely built with a lot of detail. I almost felt like you had a hand in its design, solidifying many of the principles you've advocated for over the years. They absolutely need to implement this in other ships to balance out the fleet, sooner rather than later. I have the ES currently, I feel it’ll be a great ship to solo pilot and will go along nicely with the other ships in my hangar.

Great to see another Architect Reviews video on such a solid design.
Regarding the ES habitation areas, I saw another video that mentioned the bunks are also designed as Escape pods (with visible blow off panels on the exterior) - for whenever that long awaited feature to materialize. So this may have impacted on the placement issue you had issue with.
My thought on that couch, besides being overly stiff, is that it faces nothing - as usual for CIG. Needs a big screen or holographic projector for a reason to actually sit there.

A good review and glad I picked up the whole Zeus line. My only critique is instead of a ladder I would have lifted and taken the Connie's front personnel elevator for two and put in up there instead. Have it in the hallway so I could use it to bring up spare/replacement components as well as crew. Then in the spot by the ladder I would have put a chair and engineering console. Sure it could be done from the front seat too, but if you have a guest or just want the engineer next to the components (and fire extinguisher) it would be handy to have them a touch closer.

The problem with the Zeus CL is the awkward cargo bay. It actually has 3 cargo grids, the main one that is 3 high 5 wide and 8 long, and 2 on the sides that are 2 high 1 wide and 2 long. Because of the odd numbers you are looking at a lot of small 2 scu boxes. The ceiling is very close to the top of the grid making stacking more difficult. The narrow ramp means you have to stack the sides first, and it limits the vehicles you can load to ROC or smaller. When full of cargo the ramp cannot be used as an exit point since the cargo, completely blocks it off, meaning you have to exit the ship to unload manually. Finally the tractor beam arm needs to be adjusted to pull boxes in closer. There tends to be a lot of banging into the ship with cargo to get it through the opening and into proper position. And because you are dealing with a lot of small boxes, loading can be a chore. The cargo deck is the one thing that lets down the design, especially when you have the Freelancer Max with its wide open cargo ramp that can fit an Ursa.

    Thanks for the video! 👍
As expected it is the best video out there about this ship. I bought the CL, when it was announced and think, I made a good purchase.
My only criticism is the layout of the cargo space. I had hoped for a version similar to the C1, just 4 x 32 SCU instead of 2 × 32 SCU. That would have made for fast loading/unloading, an important feature for a cargo ship. Instead we got a very mixed layout, where you need a lot of different container sizes to utilize the cargo space to it's maximum capacity.
Apart from that it is the best designed ship in the game.

Both are great ships but the one design consideration was missed with the CL - most apertures that allow cargo to be loaded are as wide as the cargo size being loaded, eg look at a transit van, the back doors open to expose the width of the cargo area, this makes it easy to load and unload fast. (I believe this was so a pallet could be loaded straight in, reducing load times but not 100% sure) Imagine loading a van, or lorry or cargo container where you could only use one door. They got this right with the C2, freelancer + max, MSR and to some extent the cutty.

Missiles are also a highly mixed bag. In almost every case except S1s, you're better off with more small missiles than fewer big missiles, not just due to the volume but also in raw damage: 2 S2 missiles will do more damage than 1 S3, and 2 S3 will do more than 1 S4 and so on up the line. This relationship holds even when things jump to S5 torpedo sizes, with the S5 torps being less effective than mount-equivalent smaller missiles.

It's pretty and well designed but I can't get over it that the airlock vents the whole compartment instead of being a seperate area with two doors like in the RAFT (which has still, in my opinion, the best designed and most realistic interior layout of all the smaller ships).

My only caveat is the size of the hangar door. While the angle is perfect for loading vehicles, this extra mechanical part, ensures that the ship does not fit rovers like the Ursa, even tho the internal space fits them comfortably.
The freelancer max that had a much simpler door system can fit them. Really feels like they want to keep those for constellation and up...

As a 10+ Year Connie owner, I'm just hoping that gets brought up to this exceptional standard... and level of cockpit visibility.

The lighting selection seems bugged in the latest PTU patch, but on day 1 of having the ship I changed the ship lighting to flashing red from the switch that’s above you while laying in bed. The light switches throughout the seem bugged now and I had to crouch and get close to the switch to change the lighting. The bridge is changeable to a softer yellow or flashing red. Also you can jump into the well for the ladder and there’s an emergency exit button that opens the ladder door and you can drop out.

Hopefully, we won't need to worry about whether we can see hangar doors, once they create a landing/take off display. Now we need that Connie interior rework even more than we did before.

*My critic is the airlock. That could have been used as both an airlock and a ladder, thus saving room behind the cockpit. Also, the tractor beam arm needs to be longer making it easier to move boxes in and out. Currently it is very difficult. Personally I see the Connie as the superstar of the medium size ships...WHEN it gets it make over....2028.*

My lady Zeus MkII ES IAE, ohh am I delighted they released her into the universe, & how surprised I was when they completed building her before the larger ones within a year’s time. Invested in her development during last year’s IAE.

I think the couch in the living quarters is made that way due to RSI’s utilitarian/professional aesthetic in their company ideology. Else it’s made by cheaper material cost means while providing some use; albeit uncomfortable. This ship was designed to be useful & convenient for their spective[single-modular] purposes, not long-term comfort. Which implies that you will have planned rest stops at checkpoints in the journey. Traveling farther than other similarly sized category ships, but necessitating stopping at ports nonetheless.

I'm really curious how long it's going to take them to retrofit all older ships to become in line with this beauty. The Zeus is looking damn good!
Of course, seeing all these improvements come in to CIG's designs make me slightly less impatient for the RSI Apollo Medivac... It'll only get better 👌

16:09 When mentioning the well-placed amenity of a gun locker that can hold a rocket launcher or railgun, I have to think about what Captain Marko Ramius said about most things aboard his ship not reacting too well to bullets...

the only thing that i would like CIG to improve on personally is adding more different texture meterials to ships because looking at this ship every texture just looks like a regular matt paint and there aren't many textures that stand out that. being said this ship does look pretty good

Great ship all in all. Also the soltice skin for it looks amazing. Hope whoever made that one works on more for other ships. Also great that is has the fron ladder. Wish that was a thing on the MSR aswell. I‘d rate it 8/10 because I find somewhat sad that the Ursa doesn‘t fit into it and yeah the pilot seat with obstructed view upwards.

The roof could be a tiny bit higher to leave some leeway with the boxes. And the artificial difference in cargo grid between the 2 models is kind of weird.
Other than that, my only complains with the Zeus is how bad it makes C1, Freelancers, MSR, etc. look in terms of space optimization and entrances.
