    I am a father to two wonderful boys, Nicholas and Alexander. I am a bike shop owner/bike fitter/coach in San Marcos - San Elijo Hills... and Hall of Fame Ultra Cyclist - of 3 different cycling organizations.
    I climbed 1,000,000 feet in 2015 in only 10 months (legitimate gain no iPhone Strava app or Elevation Correction which gives you more gain). I repeated 1M feet of climbing in 2016 and 2018 and 2019 I have also Everested 9X -- 29,029 feet in one single ride #everesting .
    I currently hold the record for the shortest distance Everest in North and South America 29,200 feet in 78 miles.
    I have been named a legendary Ultra Cyclist- a title I consistently work hard to live up to because of what it means in the small ultra cycling community.
    I completed 2- Person Race Across America (RAAM) in 2007. I have finished the Furnace Creek 508 SOLO (508 miles 35,000 feet of climbing non-stop race) six consecutive years in 2006, 2007 (Fixed Gear) 2008, 2009, 2010 2011, then came back in 2013 (tandem) and 2014 (Tandem) 2015 (tandem) and 2017 as a Two Person Mixed setting the course record with Lori Hoechlin. A total of 11 Furnace Creek/Silver State 508 finishes with a PR of 28 hours 52 minutes. I was inducted in the Furnace Creek 508 Hall of Fame class of 2011.
    I am a Trans Iowa finisher (only 57 finishers out of 250 participants in the last five years at the time). Trans-Iowa is 320 mile (course varies yearly) totally unsupported gravel race held under adventure racing format.
    I have also attained Super Randonneur (200km, 300km, 400km and 600km unsupported events) multiple years. I am a cycling coach with clients ranging from endurance cyclists, competitive triathletes, and beginners just entering the sport of cycling.
    And now that you read all of that - I am also just an everyday Joe, just like you. I own a bike shop work and 60 hours a week, have a family, have a coaching business and try to do ultra events on limited training time. I’ve never been a professional cyclist. I do what I do out of passion for the sport. I suffer just like you do. I get it done out of pure stubbornness, pride and perseverance.

    At 6:27 where/how did you use that plastic piece with the red ring? is it supposed to be inserted into the carbon shell prior to pressing in the BB cups?

    Why ND side bearings wear out first: there may be 2 reasons. 1. most ppl have stronger R leg, so the moment arm of the spindle (acting like a lever arm) is “fixed” on the drive side bearing, exerting a slightly higher force on the nd side. Or some of the forces on the drive side are absorbed by the chain ring and chain whereas the nd side obviously doesn’t have this so more forces are put thru this side’s bearing, stroke for stroke. Over time these differences add up! But really, I have no idea.

      The driveside forces being spread out through the chainring, chain and ultimately the cassette has been my theory for a long time. I wonder how close we are to the truth 😂

    • @mathooshmackovcin1635
      @mathooshmackovcin1635 2 года назад

      I think it is about the accessibility of the dirt to the bearings. On the ND drive you have better access therefor you "clean" it better, which causes the grease being removed and you have less protection and more dust (or other particles) having access to bearings. That's my opinion...

    Funny talking about this $200+ BB tool like we all have one. I would guess the non-drive wears faster because it isn't as stiff as the right side.

      As a shop owner doing videos for RUclips you would expect me to show the correct procedures including tools and torque values if applicable. How you work on your bike is up to you but at least you know what to mimic.
      And yes I agree with your assessment on the non-drive side failures

    Oh George. I removed my Shimano 24 mm bottom bracket and installed a race face PF 92 to accommodate my new Next SL crankset as an upgrade. Everything went smooth. I used primer and retaining compound as instructed in other videos. The bearings seem to spin in the frame but I thought they were stiff. After installing the crankset it’s not spinning freely. I have the correct spacers and pre load. It is a BMC Fourstroke 01. 2022. It took a couple hits with my palm to get the spindle in. I also noticed the spindle is turning black when I removed it. It is very stiff. I can’t spin it around without the chain. Will it loosen up?

      I don't know sir. I really only know of Shimano bottom brackets. They are stiff when they are new an loosen up just a tiny bit after some use. I try not to work on MTB as much as possible. I am a road guy and prefer to work on road bikes...especially with threaded bottom brackets all that press fit shit is just that ... shit. Thanks for watching

    What tool was on the ratchet when you fitted the drive side crank arm?

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 года назад +1

      If watch the video from the beginning I have all the tools laid out and mention 8mm and 50 nm of torque.
      Does that help? Let me know if you have any further questions
      Thanks for watching please subscribe.

    When installing the drive side crank, no grease or loc tite? My driveside crank always backs out when i mash on steep climbs.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  2 года назад +1

      I use grease in more situations than I will ever use Loctite. I would need to see you bike in my stand to see if there are some portions of the assembly that are out of spec. I use Loctite very sparingly on a bike. I hope that helps.

    I watched the video instructions for installing the bottom bracket and did not understand anything (((
    Should the red ring be installed or not?
    my bike frame has a 92mm wide bottom bracket.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Год назад +1

      There are two rings so you need to be clear which one you’re referring to. Sorry you didn’t “understand anything”
      But 5:30 tells you to use this first red ring
      And the second red ring 6:15
