Trey just can’t answer the question. I was truly neutral on this question and genuinely looking for an answer. Aaron just presented his argument so much better. He made his point, and comes across very knowledgeable. Trey, on the other hand made some good observations, but never proved his point that baptism is not essential. He shrouded his argument in tactics to get Aaron to become confused, but Aaron did a great job of staying grounded and focused on this point. Trey really came across like a bully defending his points. He tried to railroaded Aaron to make his points seem like they were right.
@@theodoreritola7641 And sir, if you believe, wouldn’t you do what’s commanded in scripture? And don’t be rude. Telling someone not to run and hide is provocative. Just discuss man. We’re not blasphemers here, or Pharisees in need of a lickin’. We are saved people debating a big thing.
Great job, Aaron. You demonstrated patience, Scriptural knowledge, and an exposing of how the calvinist/reformed heresy corners itself when pressed with Scripture. I admire your restraint every time he feigned an authoritative tone...often saying that he would show you, or use your words and standards, or try to demonstrate knowledge of hermeneutics and ended up cornering himself, or continuing to put words in your mouth and talk about "the coc position." Good work mastering those shenanigans. We saw through Trey. God be praised. Fine job, sir. Fine job.
The "Church of Christ" ("non") denomination is heretical in many areas. It contradicts the word of God, outright ignores definitives in the Bible and places those open to interpretation over definitives.
@TheHeavenTestdotnet-gr2ou , there are not two gospels that have been combined, nor will that ever be found in the Bible. Furthermore, the names you designated are not found in the Bible. It's just "the gospel." It is both of Grace and about the kingdom, but to try an make the only gospel into two, different things is not in accordance with the Bible. The only other gospel one would find in the Bible is "a different gospel," which Paul says "is really not another," in Galatians 1: 6 (and also in 2 Corinthians 11: 4), and is worthy of one being accursed. Remember, even if this was ONLY preached by Paul (it wasn't, because there is only one gospel and the Holy Spirit was inspiring only the Will of Him Who sent Him, Matthew 10:20), then it it still correct and Holy. This was the gospel preached by all that the Lord sent and gave the gift of the Holy Spirit when the gospel was sent to the ends of the earth.
Thank you GBN for not breaking it up. Im going to listen to the whole thing like a podcast and do my laundry and Ill listen to it twice over the coming weeks.
Jesus commanded what in Matthew 28:18-20 & Mark 16:15-16? Then what was taught by his apostles in Acts? Every conversion in Acts aligns with Jesus' command in Matthew 28:18-20. They wouldn't teach anything that would contradict Jesus' word/command.
Can you provide the Biblical definition of faith please? Not Merriam Webster definition that defines English words today and what they mean but the Biblical definition and how the word was used during Bible times.
Long conversation, thanks. I have personally had similar conversations. Some can not see multiple things working together for good. Had Aaron made a distinction between Gods answer for the Sinner and Gods answer for a Christian perhaps this would have been shorter and more edifying for Trey.
Just remember that it was the Gnostics that rejected that water baptism was not required and that it was not "useful". Also, it was the reformed theology that is based in Gnostic thought (from Augustine to Calvin)
Acts 9:6 but rise, and enter the city, and it shall be told you what you must do." What was it that he must do? Acts 22:16 'And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.'
These verses would mean something if Luke mentioned baptism in the the great commission. Matthew does but Luke doesn’t. Strange that the same author isn’t consistent about baptism
There is no way I would preach that baptism wasn’t required after reading the plain language of the Bible. I would not want to face God on judgement day and him say, “Did you not read the word? Did you not understand? How many people have you caused to be lost? Depart from me worker of iniquity.”
Exactly. If the "Faith Only" folks are wrong and they teach others "Faith Only" then if they are wrong on judgement day, they will go to hell and will have lead everyone who believed them to hell. I say get baptized for the remission of your sins and do not gamble with your salvation or anyone's else's.
If you want true salvation there's 3 steps you must do repent get water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and receive the gift of the holy spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues any other way if false don't take a chance don't gamble with your soul live right repent daily if you have to
@@davidortega357 Scripture plainly says not everyone will speak in tongues. The gifts were given in part and they were not intended to continue after they had completed their purpose. We cannot require from folks a demonstration that is not within their power to produce. There are things we are meant to do and there are things that God is meant to do. We should know which is which.
That's good question ask Jesus on judgement day if . everybody has to speak on tongues to be completely saved he might say depart from me you lazy soso and ask him if we need to be baptized in Jesus name while your add it
@@davidortega357 Can anyone miraculously “speak in tongues” today, in the biblical sense? Absolutely not! Since no one can speak in tongues in the biblical sense, then obviously what people who claim they can are doing something other than biblical tongue speaking. Therefore, should we encourage anyone who thinks he can speak in tongues to go ahead and do so anyway? The answer is NO!
I haven't heard any good argument from Trey to believe what he believes to be true. All he did was to assume that Paul was already saved when he prayed. He even tried to say that the word " brother" has two greek word when it hasn't. Still the word of God is true. We should believe and be baptized for the remission of our sins. Thanks bro Aaron for defending the word of God against false belief and false teachers.
Jesus said "...out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh... (Mt:12:34-35). We can know what is in someone's heart by what they do or say. Trey is either revealing what is in his heart or else he is not telling what he really believes.
Calvinists ALWAYS fall back to what a person doesnt know. If you pin them down on one of the tenants of calvinism, they just claim "you dont understand calvinism". Here it seemed to be "I understand your positions perfectly but you understand little of mine" He deflected, threw in jabs and took over massive amounts of the conversation by nipping things in the bud when he didnt want to talk about or answer something. Ive also noticed that a HUGE Reformed debate tactic among those who adore James White is to make people forget what the question is. If a question is asked that you dont like, you talk sooooooo much without answering that people forget what the question is. Then when the opponent calls you out you simply say "I already did answer that. You just dont like it." Yuck.
The odd thing was the passage Trey relies upon to say Ananias did not know his heart is the same passage he relies on to say Paul was forgiven. Amazing. If Trey learned by Paul praying and seeing a vision that Paul must have been saved, why could Ananias not know the same? Both have the same info! Yet, Ananias was inspired and was told that info directly by Jesus. I am certain Trey did not receive his communication directly from our Lord like Ananias did (he had to read it like the rest of us), yet Trey claims ignorance upon the part of Ananias because he did not know Paul’s heart. If Ananias knew exactly what Trey knows (which he does), then why couldn’t Ananias know like Trey that Paul was saved? This is where Trey’s logic fails him. Ananias knew Paul needed his sins forgiven and faithfully carried out the great commission and baptized the penitent believing Paul for the remission of sins.
@@jasongenareo You hit the nail on the head. I just watched an hour in which a man refused to answer one simple question, then later had the temerity to claim he had answered it. The problem is that everyone missed the answer.
I'm glad Trey was at least willing to address the question about Acts 22:16 if Saul was still in his sins. His position was that God does not listen to the unsaved. But that is debunked by Acts 10:1-6,43 Now there was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort, [2] a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and made many charitable contributions to the Jewish people and PRAYED to God continually. [3] About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, “Cornelius!” [4] And he looked at him intently and became terrified, and said, “What is it, lord?” And he said to him, “YOUR PRAYERS and charitable gifts HAVE ASCENDED AS A MEMORIAL OFFERING BEFORE GOD. [5] Now dispatch some men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter; [6] he is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea.” ...[43] All the prophets testify of Him, that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” In addition, Trey emphasized calling on His name in Acts 22:16, but baptism is part & parcel with that sentence. You can't include one and not the other in the washing away of sins.
That was tough and great to see how to tell the truth with gentleness. Not often could one see exchanges like this without the emotional side getting in.
Two men bickering and yet they both say they love Christ and each other. Learn to agree to disagree. Christ will protect his fold, but this battle of wits and ego is old and tiresome.

Like figured Jesus thru the cross and resurrection saved us thru judgement !!!! judgement !!!!!! Romans 6 is telling same thing !!! When you require water baptism it is taking away from the finished work of Christ which is the real baptism !!!
It is always great to see people who are zealous for God's word. But I just want to say something for people to chew on. Please hear my heart and and wait to make any conclucions. Both of these guys are incorrect with the defense of their positions. I am not saying that one is right, and one is wrong, but 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction." Jesus said, "I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Mat 15:24. Arguing points from the wrong mountain top will still make both positions invalid. Not trying to be funny, but I am a gentile and from the United States of America, not the house of Israel. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and Paul, who are all Jews from the House of Israel, were who Jesus came too. Jesus, in the eyes of the apostles at that time, all thought that the kingdom was coming to earth. (As do so many others, that are thinking that the Kingdom of Heaven is here on earth today, but I digress.) They did not understand that he was going to die on a cross or for what purpose at that time. The Jews were given the "Great Commission", not the Gentiles. When Christ was crucified, a "New Testament" was given to Paul. (The book of Acts, being historical in nature, is still a book of transition from one thing to another.) "For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise, it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood." Hebrews 9:16-18 There are a lot of similarities, so many, that I am going to get blasted for making this post; however, some people like to come to the scriptures with a predisposed belief in what it says, and do not just study it and let God speak to them. (This is why Jesus spoke in parables. because without the Holy Spirit, one cannot know the things that are spiritual.) All must wrest with scripture and work their own salvation out with fear and trembling. Just like the Brazen serpent in Numbers 21 was a symbol of things to come, so was John the Baptist when he was baptizing in water. Listen to what John wrote about John the Baptist: "John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost." John 1:32,33 John knew that the son of Man would be a baptizer of the holy Spirit, not water. And Matthew also recorded what John the Baptist said, "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire." Matt 3:11 We are all born with a dead spirit. Grace is us getting the Spirit of God back through faith alone in what Jesus did for us on the cross. The spirit is what does good works, because unlike Aaron, I know I am not worthy, and I am a filthy sinner in this flesh and without the spirit to convict my sinful nature, I would still be running with the world; but I am called out. Being raised one day into an incorruptible body, is to separate the new creature from this wicked flesh that sins daily. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." TItus 2:11-14 "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." 1 Cor 15:51-53 I am looking for that day to come. Are you? ALl glory to God.

About the 1:50:00 mark in the recording, Trey brought up Colossians 1:16 and said that Paul did not consult with anyone, but that is not what the verse actually says. Paul said, "I did not IMMEDIATELY consult...". So, apparently Paul did consult, but it was not immediately. Secondly, this is Paul talking about what he did AFTER his conversation. Acts 22:16 is part of his conversation. Baptism is part of the conversation process. Paul said "those who do not obey the gospel" will be eternally lost and separated from God. (2 Thes. 1:7-9). Paul pointed out "the gospel" is the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). So, how does one "obey the gospel"; how does someone obey the death, burial and resurrection of Christ? Paul told us in Romans 6:3-13 that it is at baptism that we come "into Christ", "into His death", we are "buried with him" and we rise "to newness of life". A new life enters the world at birth, so this "newness of life" is when we are born again. This chapter tells us at baptism we are "united with Christ ". Verses 16-18 reminds the Romans they were "slaves to sin", but when they had "obeyed... That form of doctrine", they were "then set free from sin". In Acts 22:16, when Saul obeyed that form of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, his sins were washed away! Immediately after this new birth, he did not wait to consult with anyone, but he went straight to work. Acts 9:20 says he "at once began to preach".

No this is how men should converse … despite differences. Win your brother over with listening and biblical truth standing in response. No malice, no anger. Eph 4:25-30 Trey… my reformed 1689 baptist brother, you did well. The Pharisees studied night and day the scrolls their WHOLE lives, yet when He walked among them they couldn’t see Him, spoke yet they could not hear Him speaking scripture directly to them. If the blind are given sight, deaf hear because of Him. Would the hardened that could see be blinded like Paul, or hearing go deaf?
"Ananias doesn't know his heart" is one of the worst arguments I've ever heard. Utterly foolish, but with his argument he has to say that so he can deny what Scripture says about baptism.
@Andrew Schaeffer THE BIBLE SEEMS VERY CONSISTENT TO ME In Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” At what point does Peter indicate that one receives “the forgiveness of [their] sins” as well as “the gift of the Holy Spirit?” When he or she is “baptized…in the name of Jesus Christ.” In Romans 6:3-4 Paul wrote, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” At what point does Paul indicate that one dies to sin and receives new life? When he or she is “baptized into Christ.” In Galatians 3:26-27 Paul wrote, “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” At what point does Paul indicate that one is “in Christ” and “put[s] on Christ?” When he or she is “baptized into Christ.” Based on these passages we see that baptism is essential to salvation because it is when one’s sins are forgiven, when one receives the Holy Spirit, when one dies to sin, when one starts a new life, and when one becomes a child of God in Christ. In other words, “Baptism is the time and place that God forgives and saves.”[1] Thus, when it comes to salvation, baptism is not the what but the when. The moment when you receive God’s saving grace is the moment you emerge from the watery tomb of baptism. That is why baptism is essential to salvation. Baptism “completes our response of saving faith,” which “begins with a confessed belief, continues with repentance, and is completed in baptism.”
Matthew 3:15…. And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. Ananias has to baptism Paul to fulfill all righteousness
Jesus told Saul Ananis will instruct him what Saul must do. So everything (ALL you need to do) Ananis said including why wait Arise be baptized Wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord, came 100% from Jesus!

Baptism is still a shadow of being raised from the grave, it's only a shadow, people want to turn it into legalism like circumcision was to the jews. How can one be saved but still have sins? Sin separates us from God. Saul/Paul was still in his sins after believing in Jesus. Yet even after obeying, praying and fasting Saul/Paul was still in a lost state... we know this as Ananias comes to him and says why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Until the blood was applied he was still in his sins.
Yes, we wonder why Paul didn't correct Ananias if he was mistaken about still being in his sins?Paul could have said...Didn't you hear I was saved on the Damascus Road? But he didn't because he knew he was still in his sins.
@@mauriceb53 This is a very important point you mentioned. All folks who believe the story of Paul's conversion the way Trey Fisher interprets it, needs to explain why Paul never corrected Ananias? Paul even doubled down on Ananias' "mistake" when Paul repeated what Ananias told him in Acts 22:16. If Ananias was mistaken as Trey Fisher claims, why did Paul never point this out?
Acts 22:16 and Revelation 1:5 both connect baptism with the blood of Christ through the washing away of sins. Baptism is the only way to contact that cleansing blood and be added to Christ and His Church Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 2:47
1:35:04 the words of Ananias were from the Lord Jesus Acts 9:17-18 this is in complete harmony with the great commission Mark 16:15-16 15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. Luke 24:47 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
I have been listening to this in parts, and I have gotten only through the first hour, so what I am about to say may be covered later in the recording. First, concerning what "calling on his name" means in Acts 22:16, we can look at other verses that has that phrase. In Acts 2:21 it records that "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved". Later in Acts 2, when the people said "What must we do" (to be saved), Peter told them to "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for (unto, into, so that you may receive) remission of your sins". Also, verse 21 uses the phrase "shall be saved". That phrase is also in Mark 16:16. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved". So you have these three verses all referring to the same thing. Notice the three verses and how they fit together. First, who is addressed: "He" (the one being saved) (Mark 16:16), "whosoever" (Acts 2:21) and "every one of you" (Acts 2:38). Second the action: Believing and being baptized (Mark 16:16), "Calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 2:21) and believers told to "repent and be baptized". Finally, the result: "Shall be saved" (Mark 16:16), "Shall be saved" (Acts 2:21) and "Remission of sins" (Acts 2:38). Notice Mark 16:16 and Acts 2:21 has the EXACT same phrase "Shall be saved". "Shall be saved" is the result of believing and being baptized and it is the result of calling on His name. If two things equal the same common thing, then those two things must equal each other. (A puma is the same thing as a mountain lion. A cougar is the same thing as a mountain lion. Therefore a puma must be the same thing as a cougar.) (1+3=4. Also 2+2=4, so 1+3 must equal 2+2). Here, belief and baptism = (results in) "shall be saved" AND "Calling" = (results in) "shall be saved"; therefore, "calling on the name of the Lord" must equal believing and being baptized. That is how one calls on the name of the Lord, by relying on His authority and doing what He said to do so that you "shall be saved"! So, in Acts 22:16, you are "calling on the name of the Lord" by submitting to His authority when you believe, repent and are baptized into Christ. Acts 22:16 not only tells him to call, but tells him how to do so! Also, if Saul was already saved when Ananias came to him and if baptism was not necessary, then there is a problem in Acts 9. Saul had hot eaten for three days and had been praying. When Ananias came to him (and obviously told him what is recorded in Acts 22:16) Acts 9:18-19 records that Saul was baptized immediately, and after he was baptized, he took food. He had not eaten for THREE DAYS. Surely he was hungry, but something was so urgent about baptism that he did that before he even ate. If baptism was not necessary, why the urgency that was shown? You can also look at Acts 2 where 3000 were baptized "that day". They didn't wait or schedule it over a period of days. Surely that would have been more convenient. Also in Acts 8, the eunuch stopped in the middle of the journey and was baptized immediately. If baptism was not necessary, why stop the chariot? The Jailer in Acts 16 was baptized immediately, "about midnight", "the same hour of the night". If baptism was not necessary, surely it would have been more convenient to wait until daylight. But none of these waited! They were all baptized immediately, and the scriptures make a point to tell us that! Why? Because it is at that point that sins are washed away!
The baptism talked about is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, not water baptism. How are we saved? God saves those who believe (I Corinthians 1:21). How does God save? By the washing (baptism, Greek loutron) of regeneration & renewing of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). For by one Spirit we are all baptised into one body (I Corinthians 12:13). To say water baptism saves is heresy. Baptism by the Holy Spirit is necessary for salvation, but God does that once we believe.
@@kelseyvanevery7587 Immersion (the proper translation of the word) was a common occurrence in the 1st century before the church used it. Therefore, whenever the word baptism is used it would naturally inferred to mean water baptism unless otherwise denoted. Baptism is only baptism of the Holy Spirit if it is designated as such. Which occurs when? Only after we put on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ "We have been buried with Him the baptism into death so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this that our old self was crucified with Him in order that our body of sin might be done away with. (Romans 6)". So what does it say in regard to when our body of sin is done away with? When we have been buried with him through immersion. Which can only mean immersion in water, because the Holy Spirit is here, not that the spirit is not active, but it is obviously referring to the water baptism here. As the apostle Peter wrote regarding the patience of God Who kept waiting in the days of Noah as he built the Ark. "Wherein 8 souls were saved. Corresponding to that, immersion now saves you,,". It's not just getting wet, but it's doing what God told you to do. It's not anything we do more than accepting the gift God gave. If you have a gift, you have to open it, to receive it, and that's what baptism is.
@@johnbluehouse4991 To say that Christ's sacrifice on the cross is not sufficient for salvation is not only alarming, it is wrong. First, the Bible nowhere teaches that baptism is necessary for salvation. This is quite a conspicuous silence, if baptism is necessary for salvation. Instead, the Bible universally teaches that salvation is by faith alone (Jn. 1:12; Gal. 2:16; Eph. 2:8-9; Phil. 3:9). If baptism was necessary for salvation, then the thief on the cross would not really be saved, because he was never baptized. And yet, Jesus affirmed that he would be in heaven (Lk. 23:43). Second, grammatically, Peter is not putting a condition on salvation. The Greek term for the word “for” is eis (pronounced ‘ice’), and it has a wide semantic range. BDAG translates it as “[an] extension involving a goal or place, into, in, toward, to, extension in time, to, until, on.” Greek grammarian Murray Harris explains that eis can be translated in three ways: (telic) “with a view to, for,” (consecutive) “resulting in,” or (referential) “with regard to.”Thus, the Greek word eis (“for…”) can be rendered “with a view to” or “because of.” Bock agrees, “The response comes ‘with a view to’ or ‘on the basis of’ forgiveness of sins.” In other words, grammatically, Peter is saying that they are getting baptized because they are already forgiven, rather than the other way around. Third, contextually, Peter and Paul never make baptism a condition in their other sermons. Earlier in this same teaching, Peter said that the only condition for being “saved” was to “call on the name of the Lord” (Acts 2:21). In the very next chapter, Peter tells the people at the portico of Solomon only about faith in Christ-not baptism (Acts 3:12ff). Luke tells us that Cornelius received the Holy Spirit and was saved before he ever was baptized. He writes, “Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” (Acts 10:47) Moreover, when the Philippian jailor asked Paul what he should do to be saved, he simply said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). That is, Paul didn’t add the condition of baptism, either.
Romans 1:5 Obedience comes from faith. In fact, that's the whole purpose of faith to make you obey. Everything we do in life comes from faith. You switch a light switch on, to get light. You do that because you believe that if you press the switch the light comes on. You have trust in your doctrine, so you do it. This is why we are baptised.
The practice is not supported by Scripture and it actually conflicts with Bible teachings. The Bible never mentions nor recommends a formulaic “Sinner’s Prayer.” Some think that after expressing a “Sinner’s Prayer,” a person is assured of eternal salvation. But no prayer in itself guarantees salvation! As imperfect humans, we continue to make mistakes. (1 John 1:8) That’s why Jesus taught his followers to pray regularly for forgiveness of sins. (Luke 11:2,4) Furthermore, some Christians who were in line for eternal salvation lost that prospect because they fell away or turned away. (Hebrews 6:4-6; 2 Peter 2:20,21)
Actually Cornelius prayed and gave alms. The angel told him God accepted these and Peter will tell him what he must do to save him and his household Acts 10:3-6, 11:14
Everybody got baptized in Jesus name in the book of Acts Apollo's got baptized in Jesus name Paul said whatever you do do it in Jesus name Colossians 3 17
There was a pattern set up in the book of Acts they all repemted they all got baptized in Jesus name they all received the gift of the holy ghost and spoke in tongues when I got baptized I spoke in tongues too obey Acts 2 38
You are absolutely right. That point made it so clear. I was neutral on this position prior to this debate, and Aaron brought it home. Trey just kind of stumbled around the question and wouldn’t address Aaron‘s point. And ultimately, I don’t think he could present a solid argument against it, it just made too much sense.
Yes, it can he denied, easily. BDAG translates it as “[an] extension involving a goal or place, into, in, toward, to, extension in time, to, until, on.” Greek grammarian Murray Harris explains that eis can be translated in three ways: (telic) “with a view to, for,” (consecutive) “resulting in,” or (referential) “with regard to.” Thus, the Greek word eis (“for…”) can be rendered “with a view to” or “because of.” Bock agrees, “The response comes ‘with a view to’ or ‘on the basis of’ forgiveness of sins.” In other words, grammatically, Peter is saying that they are getting baptized because they are already forgiven, rather than the other way around.
@@robfirestone6158 Paul specifically said that he received the Gospel directly as a revelation from Jesus Christ, not man. When Ananias was sent to Paul by Jesus, Paul received the Holy Spirit before he was baptized, not because he was baptized. No where in the bible does it state that you must be baptized in water to be saved. You are called to baptism because you are already saved.
@@robfirestone6158 As with any single verse or passage, we have to discern what it teaches by first filtering it through what we know the Bible teaches on the subject at hand. In the case of baptism and salvation, the Bible is clear that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works of any kind, including baptism (Ephesians 2:8-9). So, any interpretation which comes to the conclusion that baptism, or any other act, is necessary for salvation, is a faulty interpretation.
Trey won't flat out answer whether Ananias was wrong or not. By his own admission, is that Ananias was told in Acts 9:11 that Saul was "praying" and if that = "calling on the name of the Lord" that means Ananias knows he's saved. However, Ananias still states that Saul is in his sin (Acts 22:16), which means that pray =/= calling on the name of the Lord.
Agree partly with this{properly called in baptism(obedience), Aaron accepted multiple connotations for calling on the name of the Lord. My understanding/connotations: Praying is calling on the name of the Lord, Cornelius gifts were calling on the name of the Lord , anyone who worship the Living God is calling on the name of the Lord. Now what makes the difference a Christian who can puts things in the proper orderly manner. (1)Obey God by faith (2) Then use your talent (words/Deeds) for God's purpose and you will have treasures in Heaven. Jesus was baptized then He started His commission to Israel. Saul was a Israelite and Jesus was an Israelite so the pattern is the same. Saul chief of sinner and Jesus perfect image are both patterns.
@@qa2727 How can they believe in whom they have not heard? If prayer equated to salvation then Peter wouldn't have needed to make that trip at all. Cornelius needed to hear the gospel so that he could respond to it in faith. It's like a tennis match... once the word of God was served... the ball was in Cornelius court at that time. Let's not forget that Peter had just started to deliver the gospel when the Holy Spirit fell on them. This has been constantly misunderstood as the point of their salvation... but this was for Peter and the Jews benefit to show that salvation was coming to the gentiles. They still needed to hear the gospel and they still needed baptism. It pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. They had to hear it to believe it and they had to respond in faith by obedience. Faith is insufficient if it does not move you to obedience.
@@thundershadow , I agree with this, my original comment was that before the preaching of the gospel God's people also called on the name of the Lord. And that calling had different various expressions. I was expressing that Cornelius as you have said needed to call on the name of the Lord according to the gospel of Christ for salvation in baptism for remission of sins first. Do Christians stop calling on the name of the Lord once saved according to the gospel? I summit that every Christian in pray filled confession of sins with repentance call on the name of the Lord, except no need to be baptized .
Aaron I have a lot of respect for your patience and cordiality. Although Trey was very even-keeled in his tone, there was something a little off-putting about his delivery sometimes (maybe it seemed like he wanted “gotcha!” moments?) I’m not in anyway judging or criticizing Trey, just sharing a personal reaction I had while listening to the discussion. I’m very thankful for him joining you in discussion. Aaron, I think your explanation of Acts 22:16 is spot on; the bible means what it says.
@Quinn I agree he is quite brash and is never going to be effective at persuading many people with his attitude. What about his theology makes him a heretic though?
I'm glad you show the verses because I get so confused not knowing the scripture very well. I'm just learning. Now I'm really worried about not being baptized. You both have good points. As I'm not a baptized person I'm leaning towards the pastor on the left. I hope he's right, and I'm just not biased. I have no car, can't drive because I have rheumatoid arthritis, and am new to the area and don't know of any good churches who do full immersion. I pray I'm saved.
Being one who has debated/discussed whether or not one has to be baptized for salvation, it definitely has to be done. 1: John 16:7-8 Will come to the Apostles and convict the world of Sin Acts 2:1-12 2: John 16:13 The Holy Spirit will not speak of his own but what He hears. Just these two items alone supports that it was not Peter and the 11 preaching their thoughts on the Day of Pentecost, but it was Christ through the Holy Spirit preaching. This means that Acts 2:38 is absolutely telling us what is necessary to be justified by the blood of Christ. Without baptism one will die in their sins. Christ commanded this. Many who, i.e. the Baptist, will quote Romans 10. However, what they do is stop before verse 15. This verse shows that this passage is for those who are missionaries and are preaching the Good News. Something else to remember is that the New Covenant is made up mostly of Epistles. These Epistles tell us how to live a Christian life, how to convert those outside of Christ, and where to go become a Christian, and that is back to Acts 2. In Acts 9:6 Trey says this doesn't mean that Saul needed to be baptized, but that Saul was going to the preach the Gospel. However, that is not correct in total. Christ was starting at the beginning. What is meant is that Saul would meditate upon his life and understand that what he was doing was wrong. that he needed to repent of his sins and then be baptized. The rest is that Annanias was to tell Saul that he was one Christ selected to go to the world and preach the Gospel. Saul was not given any different orders than all Christians are given. Can we know the heart? This was bandied about several times. The answer to the question is "YES!" If one says they don't then go back to the scripture and study. Acts is not only a historical book. Acts is more than that. It is a book that teaches us how to become a Christian, so it is an instructional book. Acts, uses the deeds of the Apostles, and others, how to become a Christian. It is only a historical book to us as well as most of the Bible. However, there is a caveat and that is it is the LIVING Word of God. Annanias was a Christian, so whatever disciple converted him would have told him that to make more disciples they would have told them to baptize them for the remission of their sins. God heeds the prayers. Corneilus is another example. God doesn't have to answer the prayer the way you want them to be answered. God uses anything and everything to make a point. He will have mercy on whom He wants to have mercy on. Finally, we are not baptized into God, I was baptized into Christ. Since Christ had all the authority on Earth and in Heaven, then Christ said be baptized for remission of sins then that is it. Be baptized to be saved.
This is sad that the church does not u nderstand that ACTS 9 is the initial events of Saul's conversion as ACTS 22 is his testimony of his conversion. Saul's conversion was this, saved by the blood, filled with the Spirit, healed from blindness and baptized.
Aaron did a wonderful, patient and truthful walk through the scriptures. It is sad that Trey has such an arrogant attitude that he cannot have ears to hear the truth. He showed quite a bit of haughtiness during this interview. I wish I had half the patience of Aaron when I cannot get someone to understand a biblical truth. We need to pray for Trey to have his eyes and ears opened. I hope he takes the dip out of his mouth for the next episode! That is almost as disgusting as him adding to the text. He has to add that Ananias didn't know if Saul had been baptized. They have to add all kinds of stuff to scripture to back up their false doctrines of total depravity and unconditional election, limited atonement, and irresistable grace.
Trey just insinuated that since Paul called Jesus Lord on the road, that he was then saved. But Jesus said not everybody who calls Him Lord will be saved. The Bible also says even the demons believe and tremble. Paul was a Pharisee. He was actually doing what the law of God commanded Jews to do ignorantly. He had great zeal in doing God's will. So when it came to him that he was sinning, he didn't continue to defy God's will. While Paul sinned, the context of John 9:31 isn't that if one sins generally but willfully. Because we are all sinners yet God hears our prayers. But those that are righteous are the ones who willfully follow the will of God and not willfully defy it. Paul and John would both understand that because in Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins". If we have to look at all the unknown sins we've committed, none of us, and I mean none, would o could make it to heaven. Paul did not know he was sinning. He was following the only word of God he knew. Yet he was sinning and was corrected and repented. Jesus obviously told Ananias they Paul was praying and was "good" so, again, that would tell me that Ananias knew and that is why he went to Paul telling him to wash away his sins. He knew Paul already believed because Jesus told him. There would be no need to tell him to call on the Lord to be saved if believing saves.
Trevor tried to control the argument and keeps going off on random thoughts instead of answering. Like he asked when the people in acts 2 were saved he never answered just skipped it. Frustrating to watch how he argues. I hated how he would twist things around that Aaron said.
If Ananias "didn't really know Paul's heart" and didn't know where Paul stood as regards to salvation, then what did Ananias, someone who didn't know Paul's salvation status, tell Paul he needed to do to have his sins washed away?
Ananias had a conversation with Jesus. When Jesus told Ananias to seek him out... Ananias responded that Paul had demonstrated an enmity to the Church. Ananias knew exactly what to tell him. If Ananias had vetoed Gods will with his own he would have never sought him out. Ananias was not mistaken, nor was Jesus mistaken.
Trey, answer the question. Aarons question was never about what was Paul appointed to do? His question was how do you deal with verse 16? How do you tackle Paul's own retelling of his comversion?
For something that so many congregations say isn't necessary, the "LORD" thought it was very important to have it written with-in the scripture so many times! The key to understanding the scripture is that it must be diligently sought out from the heart and we must allow "God" to teach us regardless of how much against the grain it may be! Most of us have grown up in a world that has told us something over and over and then in our minds it seems to become fact! We must look at anything dealing with the scripture from a "Spiritual" mindset! Objectivity is a good place to start when it comes to what we've grown up learning! Then we must open ourselves up to the "Lord" and let "Him" through "His" "Word" and "Spirit" teach us! 2Ti 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. "JESUS" Speaking here: Joh 3:3 - Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 - Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 - That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 - Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. ------------------------------ After "Christ" was resurrected, this is "His" "Word"s: Mr 16:15 - And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 - He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. ----------------------------- 1Pe 3:21 - The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: ----------------------------- Ac 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Ac 8:13 - Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. ---------------------------- Ac 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? Ac 8:37 - And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God Ac 8:38 - And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. ---------------------------- Ac 10:47 - Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And she constrained us. -------------------------- Ac 16:33 - And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. ------------------------- Ac 18:8 - And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. Ac 19:3 - And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Ac 19:4 - Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. Ac 19:5 - When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. -------------------------- Ac - 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. -------------------------- Ro 6:3 - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? --------------------------- 1Co 1:13 - Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 1Co 1:14 - I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 1Co 1:15 - Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 1Co 1:16 - And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. --------------------------- 1Co 10:2 - And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; --------------------------- 1Co 12:13 - For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. -------------------------- 1Co 10:1 - Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 - And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 - And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 - And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. --------------------------- Ga 3:27 - For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
This is hard to watch...Trey interrupts WAY TO MUCH! 1 simple question...WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BAPTISM? Why did Paul get baptized? Rejecting that it is essential to salvation is to reject TRUTH and will cost him his soul!
At 1:02, and a few other times before that, Trey asked the question, "Do you know my heart?" What I think Aaron missed here, was the opportunity to say, "The Holy Spirit knew Paul's heart and conditions regarding his obedience to the Gospel." Therefore, Ananias, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit (who was powerfully active, in those days, before the New Testament was complete, providing the gift of supernatural knowledge to the church through individuals), said to Paul, "Why are you waiting, Arise and be baptized and wash away your sin, calling on the name (authority) of the Lord."
I may disagree with certain viewpoints Aaron has, but it becomes very hard to judge the tree by its fruit and agree with Trey in this instance. Aaron only presents Scripture and is super cordial and respectful, while on the other hand we see Trey using a condescending tone thoughout the discussion. In some instances it sounds like he's mocking Aaron, like when Trey says it was the story of Paul that made Aaron go back to the Churches of Christ in 31:00. Again, I don't entirely agree with Aaron, but by Ephesians 4:29, Trey's speech (whether his viewpoint is right or wrong) is not edifying nor does it encourage those who disagree with Trey's point to listen.
I took pretty heavy notes on this debate. I came up with 11 times that Aaron asked Trey about Acts 22:16.... Trey claimed 7 times he answered it... but he never did, THUS THE 'show me in scripture where Jesus commanded Paul to be baptized' (See my other comment)
The whole time. He wants Aaron to answer every question and then cuts him off. He then refuses to answer Aaron and says theres no need because he already answered. We all know he hardly answered any of Aarons questions
You have to be baptized to wash away old sin so you can start over sinless.. Everyone please please Repent and turn from your wicked ways before it's too late because Jesus is coming back really really soon... God bless everyone
What about a diligent seeker? I think of Cornelius? Was he saved even before Peter came? Because his prayers came up to God as a memorial to God...? That would contradict what Acts 10 says.
When did Jesus begin His ministry? After His baptism by John. When did one become a disciple of John or Jesus? After they submitted to baptism. People quote the epistles about how to be saved but keep in mind they were written to Christian that had already submitted to baptism and become disciples.
Anytime you try and wiggle figuratively out of including baptism as part of what we are commanded to do by the bible, you smack into another verse that clearly says its needed and required. James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Belief is neccesary, but belief without obedience is as empty as baptism without repentance.
You as well , its all over Scripture how one is saved And it has nothing to do With water ! Water Dosent Save , the water didn't die For you on the cross ! Jonh 3 : 16. , in that verse Where is there a reference To water ? There is none Also you might want to ask The question how many Baptism did Paul do ? I believe it was only 3 If Baptism was the Corner Stone to the Christian faith Than Paul would have been The Johnny apple seed Of the baptism ! Ephesians 2;8-9 There is no reference To water in thst verse Read it , Christ who died On the cross , saved us from our sins . Not water Amen and Amen
So around 44:40 - 51:20 or so Trey believes in Acts 22:13 that Ananias calls Paul “Brother” as a Christian brother meaning he knew Paul was already a Christian. But after being pressed on the Greek word he decides to run from it. Then when pressed why in Acts 22:16 does Ananias tell Paul to wash away his sins Trey decides now that Ananias didn’t know Paul was already a Christian. Anyone see a problem here? 🤔
1 John 5:7-8 Tell us there are 3 bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the holy Ghost and these three are one. (Can anyone deny any of these three) The very next verse says that there are three that bear (witness) on earth the Spirit, water and blood and these three agree in one. How can anyone deny water.....would love to join in on future debate or discussions concerning doctrine.
I get a lot of anger towards the church of Christ. I felt this way when I changed churches. I later came back to the truth. I pray Tray does too. I got hurt by people letting me down, but the word of God is that a person is commanded to repent once they believe, confess Christ (any way they can) and be baptized by the authority of Jesus in a call on God to forgive them of Their past sins heeded by God and than do what we are all appointed to do, live faithfully and preach the word in and out of season.
Amen brother. Something similar happened to me. I was raised that believing was the only thing, I got baptized yes, but did not believe it that way. I read the complete bible, reviewed a lot of videos trying to refute my new pastor in the church I am attending and everything leans toward Acts 2:38, I can see this clear. Not man kind doctrine but the true word of God, Jesus.
If the Israelites didn’t perform the sacrifices, would they still have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus even if those sacrifices were not capable of forgiving sins? Are we willing to say the same for baptism?
The spirit of Calvin is strong with this one. Dude wasn't walking in the Spirit of Christ, as the anger, arrogance, pride, and condescension is almost noticeable. Debate is not sitting down and reasoning together, as the Holy Bible gives us the righteous path to take in these matters. I do not speak Koine Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, or Syriac, I speak English, and I believe in God's providence and preservation of His Holy Word. The Holy Bible tells was the in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we must be born again. Jesus stated that, in order to enter the Kingdom of God, we must be born of water, and the Spirit, this was the teaching until the deformation of God's Word through the "reformers"; and no, I am not Catholic. Paul warns us not to strive over words (and a lot of that happens here), because it leads to strife and division of God's people. The one fellow is a Calvinist and shows the spirit of Calvin...violence, anger, hatred of those who challenge the doctrines of men. Calvinism is a doctrine of devils, as the Holy Bible would put it. You did well, showed the fruit of the Spirit, and kept your cool; you friend needs to repent of the false teachings that do lead people to destruction...and it matters. The early church writes are not Holy Writ, but they are not to be cast aside, like the arrogant "theologian" of today. Without the early church community, we would not have your Bible today. Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
Some friendly advice for Trey Fisher: your weird attempts at putting words in Aaron's mouth and summarizing a "church of Christ" position instead of actually listening to what that position is comes across as smug and as if you have no idea of what you were saying, especially considering you developed no rebuttal of your own against Scripture that you were asked to defend (and you dodged and deflected for over 45 minutes on Acts 22:16!). It looked poor and sounded worse. Go back and count the times you interrupted the answers for which you asked or the times you stated a position that had not been brought up that you called "coc." It's an embarrassingly high number. There's no wonder you thought Aaron was the "most well read" or "most knowledgeable" of the church of Christ folks you know. I doubt you have let anyone speak, let alone give you an actual position. Nice work, again, Aaron. You deserve an award for your patience and grace. Thank you, GBN, for the content and the Word rightly divided!
God heard Cornelius prayers & responded to them before he heard the Gospel. So saying Paul was saved because God listened to his prayers is a non-argument unless one says Cornelius was saved before he heard the Gospel. Gbu
@@mecurrmb you must be Baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. You must be submersed three times, completely, and you must be christmated with the seal of the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Every disciple did this. Every Apostle did this. Every missionary after Paul did this. This was being done before Acts was written. This was how Jesus Christ was Baptized, and all three persons of the Trinity showed up at the Baptism of Jesus Christ. Obviously Jesus, the Logos was there, the Father spoke audibly to all who were there, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of the Dove. Every other way is lacking and needs to be fixed.
It blows my mind that this is even discussed by people who say they believe the Bible. God, who created everything, has created a system that everything needs water for life. Then, God saved his people with water numerous times in the old testament, from Noah and his family, parting the red sea and his people when through the water and were saved, from crossing the jordan. Then the scriptures in the New Testament like 1 Peter 3:20-21. Why, would anyone who wants to follow the bible, discredit certain scriptures and then hold firm to others to fit a preconceived view. It blows my mind.
When you make the argument you don’t know where somebody’s heart is, there are many scriptures that warn about the evil that resides in the hearts of people. So that’s not a good argument. Why do people wanna fight this command to be baptized?
@@TheHeavenTestdotnet-gr2ou sorry, there is only one gospel. Peter preached 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 on the day of Pentecost. By the way, what exactly is "The gospel of the kingdom" if it has nothing to do with Christ's death, burial and resurrection?
@TheHeavenTestdotnet-gr2ou Does faith alone save? That’s a pretty simple and straightforward question, and it deserves a simple and straightforward answer. NO, faith alone will not save anyone. But many people do think that believing in Jesus Christ, is all it takes to be saved by God.
Let's say you have two people both claim to believe one does not really believe and in his heart he knows he doesn't believe and God knowing his heart knows that he does not truly believe, but he is baptized and also takes the Lord's supper. The other person truly believes in his heart and God knowing his heart knows that he truly believes but before he can get baptized and before he ever gets a chance to take part in the Lord's supper he dies. Which one is saved?
It’s so so SAD that this man is trying ALL he can to make one believe that they DO NOT have to be baptized to be saved. Aaron it’s like beating our heads on a brick wall to get people to see that BAPTISM is the MOST important thing in order to be a part of Gods kingdom. I just can’t understand why people can’t see this.
Did Jesus on the cross tell the thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” ?? He didn’t say, “Today your going to be with me in paradise…. Oh but first you have to figure out how to get down off of this cross and get dunked.” Its ridicules and like all cults trying speak to a fully indoctrinated COC member is like talking to a brick wall. Beautiful saints no doubt but so are the many amazing people involved in other courts like Mormons, Roman Catholics, JW ETC
Brother Aaron - Absolutely exegetically explaining the text in context with other verses concerning the right doctrine of salvation - and so rightly dividing the word of truth concerning the necessity to be baptized (in correlation to the Great Commission of Christ) - Hence also affirming the enlightened eyes of our understanding concerning the first inspired message presented by Peter in Act.2:38. - as to what we must do to be saved - Hallelujah - the Blood of Christ applied in the waters of baptism that gives us a good conscience - 1 Pet.3:21. Well done Aaron - keep up the sound doctrine and effective ministry - 1 Cor.15:58 👍 - Fully Persuaded!
What about Cornelius? God heard him. Trey is conflating a divine purpose to which Paul and Cornelius were to serve and salvation (of which baptism is a part)
TREY IS THIS YOU?3 And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 9:3
Aaron made Jesus proud and I’m convinced that if Paul was alive that he would ask Aaron to go on missionary work with him. Boom. ‘Watch your life and doctrine closely persevere in them because if you do you will save both yourself and your hearers’ 2 Tim 3:16-17
The jailer in Acts 16:31 was told to believe in the Lord Jesus and he would be saved. In Acts 16:34, this was accomplished because the jailer "rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household." The events of Acts 16:32-33 explain how the jailer came to believe, the same process given in Acts 18:8 (hearing, believing and being baptized). We indeed are saved by faith, but God has ordained a specific process on how to accept it, found in Acts 18:8. It is not a "sinner's prayer," which is not found in the New Testament.
I've paused at 1:38:03 to interject one point to the "Why did Ananaias tell Paul to get baptized?" question. Paul was a worshipper of God. He was wrong about who Christ was; yet He still worshipped God as a Jew. Scripture tells us we are judged not just by our actions but by our knowledge. Yes, our righteousness and sins are judged by God; it's a judgment based on what we know of God.
I believe baptism is important, and I have been baptized. But I think we violate the Scriptures when we make baptism the prime requirement for salvation … Paul’s central theme was Christ and His saving power. Although he spoke of baptism, he said: ‘I thank God that I baptized none of you … lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name’ (1 Corinthians 1:14-15).
All Trey and calvinist's talk about is belief alone for salvation. They never talk about regeneration i.e. born again comes BEFORE believing the gospel in their religion. The truth about Calvinism is they are already saved before they believe. So they are not even consistent with faith alone salvation. I wish Arron would have pointed that out with Trey's insistence that Paul was saved the moment he believed in Jesus.
Trey thinks baptism is not part of the gospel that was preached to Paul by Ananias. Trey will not believe Ananias nor will he believe Jesus that baptism is in the gospel of Jesus Christ, Mark 16:15-16 *Go into all the world and preach the GOSPEL to every creature, he that believes and is baptized will be saved; he that believeth not will be condemned* According to Trey God sent a man named Ananias that did not know what he was saying. I will believe that when pigs fly. But yet Trey then said Ananias was not wrong when he told Paul to wash away his sins. Typical calvinist, they use doublespeak alot. Aaron said Trey told him over the phone that Ananias made a mistake when he told Paul to wash away his sins. During this debate he lied and said he did not say that. Trey doesn't have any integrity or credibility with me.
@@newtestamentchristian6932 My problem with Calvinism begins with the notion that their God allegedly preselects those special individuals that he will save, chosen before the world was created, and then the rest of humanity he sends to hell, without giving them any opportunity for any chance at redemption. So any person who wants salvation cannot have it if they are not one of the lucky ones, even if they want it more than anything. No choices involved according to Calvin. What kind of a cruel God is this in John Calvin's corrupted mind? And furthermore, what kind of a person in their right mind would follow the teaching of a man like Calvin, who had his religious opponents in Geneva executed, using the police state of government to do his bidding. The man has innocent blood on his hands, yet millions follow his corrupt teaching. Of course the true God wants everyone saved and allows each to make this choice (Acts 17:30-31; Acts 10:34-35; Romans 2:5-11; Romans 6:23; Hebrews 5:9).
@@larrymcclain8874 yes, Trey, Jeremiah, Paul Day and other calvinist's tell me to put all my trust in Jesus and not what I have done. Why? @@newtestamentchristian6932 , not only that, but do you notice that this bunch of guys always say "works-based salvation" is wrong and they will include baptism, confession, and anything else they say "man does" and "ergon," while they recommend that a person should "put, place, have, trust, believe" and a host of other things that are *works* and *things a person does.* Is this not the biggest contradiction?
Trey said that in Acts 22:16 Ananias was doing what we are supposed to do in the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20) where we are told to "make disciples" and "baptize". So, he must be saying that Paul was saved BEFORE he was made a disciple.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, appealing to Jesus.

How can Paul be saved if his sins are not washed away yet? Is it so difficult to understand?
Whenever Aaron has him pinned by Scripture he keeps saying "you don't know my heart" and "I don't know yours" .
But that is debunked by
Acts 10:1-6,43 Now there was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort, [2] a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and made many charitable contributions to the Jewish people and PRAYED to God continually. [5] Now dispatch some men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter; [6] he is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea.”
...[43] All the prophets testify of Him, that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”
In addition, Trey emphasized calling on His name in Acts 22:16, but baptism is part & parcel with that sentence. You can't include one and not the other in the washing away of sins.
That was tough and great to see how to tell the truth with gentleness. Not often could one see exchanges like this without the emotional side getting in.

What does the Bible say about baptism because it’s the lack of consistency about baptism that tells us that baptism isn’t crucial
@Andrew Schaeffer THE BIBLE SEEMS VERY CONSISTENT TO ME
In Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” At what point does Peter indicate that one receives “the forgiveness of [their] sins” as well as “the gift of the Holy Spirit?” When he or she is “baptized…in the name of Jesus Christ.”
In Romans 6:3-4 Paul wrote, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” At what point does Paul indicate that one dies to sin and receives new life? When he or she is “baptized into Christ.”
In Galatians 3:26-27 Paul wrote, “for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” At what point does Paul indicate that one is “in Christ” and “put[s] on Christ?” When he or she is “baptized into Christ.”
Based on these passages we see that baptism is essential to salvation because it is when one’s sins are forgiven, when one receives the Holy Spirit, when one dies to sin, when one starts a new life, and when one becomes a child of God in Christ.

Acts 22:16 and Revelation 1:5 both connect baptism with the blood of Christ through the washing away of sins. Baptism is the only way to contact that cleansing blood and be added to Christ and His Church Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 2:47
1:35:04 the words of Ananias were from the Lord Jesus Acts 9:17-18 this is in complete harmony with the great commission
Mark 16:15-16
15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Luke 24:47
47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Acts 2:38
And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Baptism is very important he that Believes and baptizes
Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, and be Baptized and remain faithful. I am a proud to be a member of the Church of Christ.
Moderators definitely needed. I heard more of Trey conversation than Arron . Arron had a lot of patience

Great Job, Aaron. The manner in which you're able to state your argument with patience is admirable in the least
Appreciate your friend being so cordial! You did a great job defending The Faith. Hopefully he will see his error one day. Love you Aaron
If God doesn’t hear sinners than how can the sinners prayer work? 1:14
I was thinking the exact same thing.
It doesn't work that's the point. There is no example anywhere in the NT of anyone being saved by a prayer.
What is a sinners prayer and where is it in the Bible?????
The practice is not supported by Scripture and it actually conflicts with Bible teachings. The Bible never mentions nor recommends a formulaic “Sinner’s Prayer.”
Some think that after expressing a “Sinner’s Prayer,” a person is assured of eternal salvation.
The angel told him God accepted these and Peter will tell him what he must do to save him and his household
Acts 10:3-6, 11:14
Great job, Aaron!

There was a pattern set up in the book of Acts they all repemted they all got baptized in Jesus name they all received the gift of the holy ghost and spoke in tongues when I got baptized I spoke in tongues too obey Acts 2 38
Me too. I wish I was as humble and patient as Aaron. Pray for me, I'm working on it.
Does everyone who OBEYS THE ONE GOSPEL of Christ speak in a tongue? If yes, why?
@@willietodd3864 The scriptures tell us that not everyone speaks in tongues.
WOW! Aaron nailed it down with 3 Levels of inspiration! He nailed it! You cannot deny it ! It is nailed down.

If Paul’s sins were already forgiven before baptism, why is he told to “wash away your sins, calling on His name”?
So you have preferences about how someone delivers what they say and this has an impact on how you receive it…
Aman what our Heavenly Fathers word say is what it is
I would like to see Trey debate Johnny Robertson as well
I would hate to see that
It'll be the same results. Johnny would crush him just like Aaron did.
@Quinn who?
@Quinn What specifically about him is heretical?
Email Gallagher@GBNTV.org and we will connect you with someone locally who can come to you and work with you to be baptized. We would love to help.
Being one who has debated/discussed whether or not one has to be baptized for salvation, it definitely has to be done.
1: John 16:7-8 Will come to the Apostles and convict the world of Sin Acts 2:1-12
2: John 16:13 The Holy Spirit will not speak of his own but what He hears.
I definitely do not have the patience Aaron does. I would have given up the 3rd time the guy tried to change subjects.
yes, you must obey Acts 2:38 to fulfill the gospel and the plan of God for salvation.
YES🩸
Aaron does such a great job explaining his points by using scripture in a professional and respectful manner.
Aaron is on point . WOW!
If Ananias "didn't really know Paul's heart" and didn't know where Paul stood as regards to salvation, then what did Ananias, someone who didn't know Paul's salvation status, tell Paul he needed to do to have his sins washed away?
Why woulld Paul even be sent to Ananias if he didnt need his "advice". He was sent to Ananias for a reason , Paul needed direction as to what to do.
@@thundershadow Correct. Ananias told Paul to do exactly what he needed to do, which was obey the gospel in baptism and have his sins washed away.
@@Nshipman87 Exactly what I said.
Trey, answer the question. Aarons question was never about what was Paul appointed to do? His question was how do you deal with verse 16? How do you tackle Paul's own retelling of his comversion?
Exactly!

This is hard to watch...Trey interrupts WAY TO MUCH! 1 simple question...WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BAPTISM? Why did Paul get baptized? Rejecting that it is essential to salvation is to reject TRUTH and will cost him his soul!
Paul did not get dipped in water
The devil has Trey right where he wants him. He refuses to answer the purpose of Paul’s immersion and why it's needed.
@@tiavee Paul didn’t get dipped in water
@@aletheia8054 I wonder why Paul would include himself as having been baptized/immersed/dipped then. Romans 6:1-6.
@@tiavee Paul never said he was dipped in water
The teaching that baptism is not necessary for salvation is only as old as the 16th century. History confirms it for most of Christendom.
Trey claimed 7 times he answered it... but he never did, THUS THE 'show me in scripture where Jesus commanded Paul to be baptized'
(See my other comment)
🤣🤣 Trey deflecting hard...
The whole time. He wants Aaron to answer every question and then cuts him off. He then refuses to answer Aaron and says theres no need because he already answered. We all know he hardly answered any of Aarons questions
That's what false teachers do. They deflect from the truth.

You have to be baptized to wash away old sin so you can start over sinless.. Everyone please please Repent and turn from your wicked ways before it's too late because Jesus is coming back really really soon... God bless everyone
Serious question: Why was Jesus baptized?
Excellent job Aaron!
Amen I personally feel like Aaron gave a better case and presented it in way I could understand thank you brother!!!
YES. BIBLE SAYS IT. JESUS DID IT. THAT SETTLES IT...

Fantastic job Aaron. Proud of you brother. Can’t wait for the next discussion with Trey. He talks in circles.
Anytime you try and wiggle figuratively out of including baptism as part of what we are commanded to do by the bible, you smack into another verse that clearly says its needed and required.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Belief is neccesary, but belief without obedience is as empty as baptism without repentance.

Great job Aaron!
I got hurt by people letting me down, but the word of God is that a person is commanded to repent once they believe, confess Christ (any way they can) and be baptized by the authority of Jesus in a call on God to forgive them of Their past sins heeded by God and than do what we are all appointed to do, live faithfully and preach the word in and out of season.
natewest5846 Welcome back, brother!!!!
Trey attitude was a little too condescending for me
The spirit of Calvin is strong with this one.

Trey - "Let's leave Gal 1 and go to Acts 26."
He answers without giving any answers. He cannot stay in one place.
When you make the argument you don’t know where somebody’s heart is, there are many scriptures that warn about the evil that resides in the hearts of people. So that’s not a good argument. Why do people wanna fight this command to be baptized?
For 2.5 hours Trey said "we're going to get into that," and then he never did.

Did Jesus on the cross tell the thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” ?? He didn’t say, “Today your going to be with me in paradise….
1:34:50 THANK YOU Aaron, FINALLY! You said it! haha And Trey didn't acknowledge it.
Baptism is included in preaching Jesus Acts 8:35-39.
