I loved this show back when it first aired, top notch production vales...and of course a star studded cast. I think this series still holds up as a quality show even by today's standards. thanks for sharing this.
Wow. It's probably the first movie I ever watched, and watched it so much. I don't know why it slowly popped back into my head after nearly 35 years, but it did. I remember two quotes from it and tried to search for it, and sure enough, here it was! Re-watching it after 35 years, it's amazing how much I remember vaguely, but also how different it seems after living for 35 years! The cycle is complete. I didn't realize how odd the movie was back when I was watching it as a child, but now I realize. Also, the kisses surprised me a little. Hm...
Wow...just came across this! Thank you for posting....have watched so many times when I was a kid....oh my gosh....was my favorite. Brought back so many memories lol hallarious watching now.....
I have always had a very faint memory of a jack and the bean stalk story I watched as a very young kid. Then out of nowhere I remembered Shelly Duvall was apart of it. I found this and it was straight nostalgia watching it. Thanks for the video.
The cast was having fun. Among them we have classic TV housewife Edith Bunker (the great Jean Stapleton, who was the first choice for the Sunday might series Murder, She Wrote),plus Ross and Monica's Dad from Friends (Elliott Gould), and actress Katherine Helmond from Soap. Dennis Christopher is Jack (he was in Breaking Away, and Django Unchained).
This one is my favorite of all I can remember eating oranges and apples in front of the tv at 7 watching this it really makes me happy to see this again.
Just like how I would eat potatoes while watching The Last Unicorn. xD during the scene where they were cooking, I ate potatoes as well. =) Glad to be of service!
@lakshanjeya2164 I like watching these Faerie Tale videos too even though they were made in the 1980s and it's okay to watch a video no matter how old it is. However, films like "The Wizard Of Oz", "The Sound Of Music", and "Mary Poppins" were made in the years of 1939, 1964, and 1965 and people still watch those films now.
First i've known the story of the Jack amd the beam stalks. Now when i saw this movie its fantastic and its wounderful to look at. So this movie became the very best for the kids to look. Movie is a very good show to the kids living in this world. Bravo.
My Mom loved these just as much as my brother and I in the 80s she recorded all of them for us on VHS but they have been lost with time Thank you very much !!
At 25:30, did the Giant wake up to squash the fly (which explains why he hit his right hand onto the table as he woke up even though the fly can still be heard a little bit as he was going back to sleep at 25:31 and then wasn't heard anymore after that) or did he wake up from smelling Jack with Jack being close by?
I was always fascinated with this beanstalk as a child - it featured in many of my dreams and nightmares! 🤣 Fun fact: the famous Jerry Hall was the face in the harp.
Our Teacher watches this alot in her kid days, so now we're watching this. Guess she introduced this to us. Thanks Teach! :) By the way, This episode is a fairy tale on steroids!!! Kind of creepy, awkward and raises so many questions none of us don't want to know. But that's just our opinion.
Stephen King's book The Talisman is a similar story. Coincidentally the main character's name is also Jack. Jack goes to a faraway land to retain a magical object that will save his dying mother.
@K.114. Maybe the magic bean salesman gave them more magic beans to make a new beanstalk since he was there and they climbed back up to the castle on the new beanstalk. Otherwise maybe they called an airplane pilot to give them a ride up to the castle.
I. Think. Jack is. 😇 Abrav boy.. For come ing to.. The place.. Of the giant.. S place.. I think 🤔 it a very good sory .. Have ... It is. 😇 Farvert yours rebekah 🎄 I think 🤔 it would be a good Christmas. Film to have at. Chris ma's day. Xx
I think Jack and his Mom were really really secretly close. Basically he hits the lottery 4 times, he's a good looking guy, and he has no love interest. He then spends the rest of his life with his mother in a fantasy world away from society..."Oh, oh, oh Jack! Your built just like your father, oh Jack!"
This actor is playing the most annoying 12 year old lol and that cow is so funny looking lol. I like how the lady giant was nice to jack... Oh and the giant sounds like Ross from Friends lol so depressed lol
@nsc217 Most likely seeing the magic bean salesman at their home, he most likely gave them more magic beans to make a new beanstalk to climb back up to the castle. Otherwise maybe they called an airplane pilot who gave them a ride back up to the castle.
@@nsc217 Well I would assume with the magic bean salesman at their home, he must have given Jack more magic beans to make a new beanstalk after Jack chopped down the other one.
@TheRichardRian Two options could be that, depending if Jack and his mom took many weeks or months to move back into the castle, Spot could have died from old age. Or, the day when they moved back to the castle, they might have asked the Giantess for help to bring Spot to the castle where she climbed down the beanstalk and carried Spot over his shoulders and wrapping him around her neck and used her hands to climb up the new beanstalk from the magic bean salesman (I would guess the magic bean salesman gave them new beans to make a new beanstalk) and she brought Spot to the castle. I would guess this since the narrator mentioned how kind she was from 49:10-49:17.
@dorafrank4347 I wondered that too since he was never seen landing as the beanstalk was disappearing. I would guess that, that loud crashing noise from 46:44-46:45 was the Giant hitting the ground and died and his body disappeared away with the beanstalk.
I love Shelly, but once you see her as Mrs. Torrance, well...........and Katherine Helmond is WAAY too weird to be babysitting your kids kids. Signed, person who enjoys Kubrick and the show 'Soap'.
@quianawolfe5838 No because it was mentioned that the Giant killed Jack's father which is why Jack felt he had to go back up the beanstalk a third time to avenge something as that woman was telling the story from 39:28-40:13.
I loved this one the most! I used to beg my mom to rent this on 📼 for me back in the 80s!
How many remember in 1980s or 90s in DD ,,metro they played these stories i watched in black and white lovely ,memories
Just how I Remembered it Growing up....👍👍👍
I like Jack ! He's always positive and never loses his " Can do " attitude !
I used to ask my mom to rent this and I would watch this on repeat. This and Hansel and Gretel were my favorites.
Same here! 😂
Rest in peace sweet Shelly. ❤ you will be missed

This is from "Faerie Tale Theatre" on ShowTime, this aired in 1983. The series only made a few episodes a year, for 6 years.

Love Faerie Tale Theatre! Full of nostalgia, and also satisfying to see all-star casts in the mix.
I remember this classic fairytale.
I watched this and tall tales and legends when I was a kid:)
When I first saw this video, I thought the Giant was waving at Jack from 25:20-25:22 but was just trying to get the fly away in his sleep.
OMG Elliott Gould as the Giant - just so nostalgic and classic!
July 11 rest in peace Shelley dunvall wish you happy ever after
