Anyone who says rotaries aren't reliable needs to watch this. This car has undoubtedly been through so much abuse for years, making 500 hp, and it's still holding together. Some basic preventative maintenance, good tuning, and an understanding of how rotary engines need to be driven, and they can be very reliable. They love being driven hard too!
So they require extra maintenance and special operation (cold starts must be allowed to run to operating temp, etc)… Only to burn oil in turbo applications and hemorrhage fuel.
@@Dudeman9339 Doesn't mean they aren't reliable. They're just a little different and require a little more care. For some of us, the rotary driving experience is worth the few tradeoffs they have. They're just so fun! I wouldn't daily a rotary because of the fuel consumption alone, but I love my RX-7 to death as a weekend car.
As a memorial car this thing is so sick. Made to just rip to remind him of his times with his brother. You know everytime he rips this his bros smiling. I love everything about this burnout box ❤
This FB is wild, somthing you’d see in the front of a Walmart in parking lot, hitting the kerbs, and you watch in horror. Thinking “oh that poor thing” But as soon as it leaves. The Rotary screaming, breathing flames like a dragon. Doing a full burnout. You have instantly fallen in love with.
One of my favorite videos on yt is Michael's video showing this car off several years ago. always go back every once in a while to watch it. Love that you're covering it now :)
this is by far my fav video to date rn i love the enthusiasm i know Angel the brother had so many good conversations with him and seeing his build are always extremely cool respect to the Vargas brother for such commitment and amazing inspiring builds for the rotary community🤟
Man, these videos make me want to build a bulletproof rotary so bad. I love my 8 but i want it to be daily driven as much as possible but i need something to wrench on and learn. This car is so cool! Thanks for the video David, this rotary guy appreciates it a lot my coworkers think im insane for loving them so much. Then i hear it. "worth" 😂
As a first gen owner i love seeing this. this is goals. i have two rotaries here in NYC. id love to get the chance to meet you and hopefully do a review of my bridgeported rx7
Mad respect for the rotaries. We love em here in Oz. Just goes to show you how string car culture is. Buying and selling the cars and engine, and here we are. Good on ya!
Before watching I knew it had to be one of the Vargas boys, loved John's blue FB RX7 on Hoonigan's Daily Transmission 159! Love both of their rat rod-ish, street fighter vibes ;)
You should branch out into your own media company. “That Media” if you will. You could have other people cover car events at different parts of the country. Just a thought.
Hellz yeah ... if i see mike or john im watching as they are the kings of rotory and r.i.p. to chris .... mad rad builds and lo e the hood dump .. i daily one 😅
the thing about rotary's once you start a fresh rotary on race day and are prepped for race on line. it won't shut off till the race is done. it may not start up again after the race till a rebuild but it WILL NOT DIE DURING the race. rotary's are insane one of the best engines for endurance races to date. want a high revving car thats great to throw around corners at events like le'mans RX-7 damn near indestructible engines once running.
Anybody else noticed the windshield flexing in- and outwards when he was driving on the highway?! You can see it moving on the camera @8:42 for example.
quick question: have you done a video in a single cam honda? if not you should, i think a video driving a built d series with a big turbo would be awesome
Hey my mum had one of those when we were kids we had a savanna i have fond memories of riding in the trunk ( by choice) and looking iut the curved back windscreen
When i lived in Chicago in the early 2000s i knew a guy who had an FC that was similar to this. 😂😂 It was set up soo stiff. I thought id lose the change in my pockets every time i rode in it.
This is the first car I've seen that looks like it has the same stiff suspension my Subaru used to have. That shit was crazy tight and you could basically take any corner as fast as you wanted but goddamn it was like someone was punching you in the back every time you went over a bump 😂
BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP
Brap brap brap brap brap brap
baby got brap
When you buy a brap brap brap brap?
I mean, pinned comment is almost a title.

I was talking to an older guy about his similar build to this actually and he said they’re reliable as long as you have proper timing and fuel
So they require extra maintenance and special operation (cold starts must be allowed to run to operating temp, etc)…

They’re only unreliable if you don’t know how to work on rotaries.

Rotaries are SUPER reliable. They use them in the islands a lot. They live forever if you know what you're doing.

I like when the owner is included for interviews and sharing the background on the car and why they chose to mod it the way they did
you should watch this video then

As a first gen owner and lover, favorite video in a while, shoutout Vargas brothers for being the coolest rotary builders
I am this guy’s neighbor and can in fact, confirm, that it’s my worst nightmare.
Uh huh
Rando on the internet just so happens to follow David
Nobody cares.

Everyone forgets how good Mazda builds its cars. Very reliable
Your brother is probably smiling with ya every time you pull down the road. Well done
This has got to be your best video yet. I loved the story behind the car and how hard it rips!!
Both of my neighbors are car guys with loud trucks so I’ve always been comfortable with my loud cars and bikes

Owner of an RX8 I’m very thankful to have the knowledge and ability to learn with the engine as I go!
@@okexotics heck yeah. probably gonna have mine for the rest of my life. but i can't wait till i have more of them i can thrash on.
I want to get another rx8 and t2 13b swap it
Always love to see more rotary content, and it's a first gen to boot. Great stuff.
Now I just need a bigger turbo on the 12AT....
I'll always be a Rotary fan boy and no one will convince me otherwise
As a first gen owner i love seeing this. this is goals. i have two rotaries here in NYC. id love to get the chance to meet you and hopefully do a review of my bridgeported rx7
Engines are living breathing entities, change my mind
Your brother continues to ride with you, that engine, proves it, bless the mess, keep rolling
Makes me miss my street ported FC. Had a lot of fun in that car.
Hey! I went to high school with the Vargas brothers. John, Mike, and Chris (RIP). 💪🏽 💪🏽 💪🏽
Mad respect for the rotaries. We love em here in Oz.

RIP headphone users for the entire video. Lol
Oh man mikes cars are sick! You've gotta review the REPU!!!! The flames are even more insane!!!
This is just a testament to how good and bulletproof the Vargas rotary builds are
If us Patterson's had to vote on who's done/doing the coolest stuff, I'd definitely vote your way bud
Love these videos. Much respect

“With US only customer service.”
You’re really speaking to the middle aged white man in me with that one.😭
as an Aussie its nice to see people from America that can actually throw a car around
I used to watch clips of this car on his channel from years ago after seeing him on hoonigan crazy this cars still ripping
This is art, and a story to give one all the feels… this is one spicy nacho dorito !

That spot under the bridge is so blown out now :(
Rode on this care quite a few times in its original form. Miss the rotary scene in VA
Watched this car for years, and never get sick of it🤙🏾🤙🏾
I sold my 83 FB GSL a month ago and I honestly miss it, I bought it for my 18th bday 3 years ago and it was fun until the 12A went out
Surgeon General's Advisories comes free with this rx7
Shoulda known it was the Vargas brothers 🤣 they know how to party
Loved this episode!
Had too many rides in this car. Got to see some of the evolution. Trust... its a beast!!!
I can still see the beauty on the way it looks ❤
Agree. Absolute weapon for its intended purposes. I miss my 3 colored Talon AWD with busted center portion of the tail “spoiler” for the same reason.
What a amazing tribute car 👏💪😇😉👍
idc who doesn't like it but these are the actual voolest builds, reliably beat memorial cars
truest comment ever

Seconded, we need a vitara build
Talking about this on this video is funny. I'd love to see that as I have a D series, K and a rotary (renesis).
s2k are single cam...
not correct
No. They're double overhead.@@sparkster_6087
What an absolute menace 😂 I love this man
Wait one of the Vargas brothers passed away
Owning a Rotory makes every piston engine car child’s play!!!😂
Dude you scared the shit out of me, I thought you meant one of the remaining two brothers died 😭
why does this video not have more views?
Smokes like an N54 with 19T's💀💨💨
That's such a awesome car, with an awesome story, wish the video was longer lol😅.
I wish you could make 100 videos on the batgas bros cars, I love rotary’s
Wish I could have a pos turbo rx7 to rip around in
Nothing like a Rotary lol unique in all ways very fun to drive 💯👍👍👍
Yo, I give y'all all the respect for doing that kind of driving in VA Beach Area..Y'all Brave...👍🏽🏁
Hey my mum had one of those when we were kids we had a savanna i have fond memories of riding in the trunk ( by choice) and looking iut the curved back windscreen

Man I had no idea John had passed.. I’m sorry for your loss Michael
no there was a third brother, chris vargas i believe. john didnt pass
My neighbor has a 1995 FD he goes to work at 5:15am it’s straight piped 🫣
Wait, did you use a feature to test different thumbnails by chance, David?
I watched this in action at Cletus and cars Indy two years ago
This thing is awesome 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice SA/FB build.
Im definitely on board with whatever that rx7 owner is on

Do you still have the Firebird formula if so I’d like to know where you got your formula rocker side badges
LOVE this :D
How does this live in my area and never seen it a day in my life sadly.
Imagine that thing during new year
No way, Whats Up Vargas! Hells Yeah!💯👊🏽💯 What A Freakin Hell Hound! 😳
I feel like you got oil residue on the camera lense 😂
MAZDA FOR LIFE
that dude had a cool ass dad
Its just so obnoxious and im ok with that.
ok
First really fast car i was ever in was an 83 rx7 540hp i knew when my dads friend handed me a helmet i was in for it
Love everything about it..
Rx7s are so cool
Rotary power 💪
Is the brap brap only on the 13B engine or does it work on the 12A also
Either one, it is caused by big port timing overlap
Probably dumb question so forgive
But how much to build something like this w the reliability?
Anyone knows the name and specs of the wheels ? Love em
We want more!
Bring back the Mazda Cosmo 110S
