Surstömming is herring that is preserved through fermentation. Thats is why the can looks like it going to explode. But you shude open it in a bucket with water. And you need to eat it with potato, redonions, chive and sour cream on a hard thin bread with fine chop surstömming.
Yes and it’s delicious 🤤 here in the northern part of Sweden we are fighting for it at the stores right now. It has been a rough year for the fishermen 😕
@@jimmynilsson2988 it's a real battle my dude. Here in DK, the amount of fish allowed to take home, has been regulated drastically. Even angling is heavily regulated now. And not to mention the pfas in the shores and coast. It sucks.. 😑
Surströmming is a specialty from Norrland, which arose when the Hanseatic League stopped its sale of salt to Sweden in the Middle Ages due to the unresolved conflicts with Gustav Vasa. The subsequent salt shortage led people to preserve the strömming "or Baltic herring" by fermenting it instead of putting it in salt. During the fermentation, acetic acid, lactic acid and butyric acid are formed, which lower the pH value and thus extend the shelf life of the fish. On the other hand, it is considered among the world's smelliest dishes.

Think you guys owe me a laptop! As a Swede seeing that tin of Surströmming make an appearance I laughed so hard I had beer coming out of my nose! Knew what was coming, that smell isn't to be trifled with!
That was one of the best episodes I've seen. Graham's G60 taking on water through the vents, the Farm Truck in deep water to the cooking. Great video. And the DMW Nissan is a weapon. Keep it up.
now this is what ive missed with you guys REAL 4wd content not the usual crap we get i enjoyed this so much i have watched it 3 times already keep this stuff going guys
Hands down the best Cape episode ever. Pretty epic seeing the oldest of the Nissan beside the newest of the Nissan's. I would love to see the farm truck v 300 series and the g60 v y62 in an episode together. Ultimate old v new. Or a Cape trip with all old rigs in the convoy.
Brilliant trip guys! The Nissan vs Toyota is always fun But the 40 series are bloody tough vehicles and tough on body’s too ! Both had lousey brakes from new! I remember driving a troopy off cape York back in the early 80’s with no brakes down the Tele track … No bypass track in those days … Brings back great memories! Thanks guys Keep em coming !
OMG so funny with the tin and the can opener and the boys trying not to throw up. But the funniest is when it’s slowed down and Graham sounds like a Wookiee. 😂😂😂
I grew up in my youngest days riding in a Toyota Landcruiser off road in the desert of Arizona. Really fun to see the old farm trucks doing this stuff.
As a Swede, I laughed so hard at this! Surströmming is a tradition that (some) Swedes eat around the third thursday in August but also I have seen Swedes eat it around Swedish Midsummer. Cheers from Sweden!
After watching the two old rigs having water issues with that big crossing (~36 min) it was astonishing seeing Ruben getting through. Massive respect and quality driving, especially from him, especially with only three tyres. Kinda shows some of the limitations of a very long serpentine belt. Toyota has done ‘belts’ in lots of different ways but earlier generations (like mine) had the crank driving WP and AL only using twin belts. The PS was on a separate belt and the AC was the only one with IP (2 in my case). I think this was better. Thoughts? Gorgeous scenery ~50 min. T v N, it really doesn’t matter. So childish! Would like to see more of the camera car and guys.
absolutely lost it with the can of fermented fish. I was in the middle of eggs and potatoes and just about shot it across the table. Also, for some reason on this video...Graham's voice during the monologues was just amazing. I felt like I could listen to it for hours as he waxes poetic talking about the flora and fauna of Australia's outback.
Swede here! I was screaming WATCH OUT! when Shauno opened it and I almost barfed remembering the horrid smell. You are not supposed to eat it directly from the can though. only the oldtimers ate sur strömming and it is only like 15 to 25 % of the swedish population that actually eats that dreadful thing.
Excellent episode guys, loved it all. Some great wheeling in there also from Jessie and Reuben. Go the Nissans especially that Y62 it’s awesome. Keep up the great work guys and look forward to the next one. Cheers 🍻
Frenchmans track... Did it in 2000, in my old 93 Hilux, towing a camper trailer I made out of a Hilux, (I called it the Hilux and a half), with my 2 sons, at the time in their early teens. Travelled on our own. The Pasco was the most challenging river, not as deep as you guys found it this year, but still running fast at a meter deep. We did it from east to west. This year, in my 2002 Hilux, towing a Cameron Camper tailer, we did Cape York again. No problems, even stretches of bitumen!

Just as well you found a nissan part to fix the toyota, or it might be still there, lol. Doesn't matter what the 4x4 is as long as you're out there using it.
V8 conversions are fine if done properly, but you probably shouldn't go straight on to the OTT and Frenchmans on an untested conversion. Maybe do a few local trips to deal with the gremlins first.

I had the exact same problem at Baileys 80. The A/c idler pulley could be used in the place of that idler. It smaller but gets u out of a pickle. Hopefully the belt hasn't stretched too much and the tensioner can take up the slack due to smaller puller size.
