First of all, cool trick. Thanks for sharing. Second, What are these decals for? If they are going on anything that will be washed(like a car or window) those tiny 1mm thick strips of vinyl do not have enough adhesive under them to keep from lifting when scrubbed, even gently. I always recommend less detail in decals that will be washed, for this reason.
@@TheRhinestoneWorld I am not sure you even read my comment, but you sure didn't comprehend it. I said, "like a car or window". Are you finger prints everywhere? Are are you ruining the adhesive of the vinyl with you hand oils? But otherwise I heard of this earlier and I’m really happy cuz my decals have tons of small bits I was weeding around and it took forever
When you reverse weed there is more touching involved to the back of the decal than normal. For that we would suggest trying to refrain as much as possible touching the back of the decal, a little oil from your hand won't hurt the integrity of the stickiness of the decal though. -TRW Bobbi
Thanks for the video. I need to buy my first cutting machine. I am thinking of the silhouette portrait. Others think I should get the cameo 3 or 4. I do plan on making shirts and stickers. Your thoughts?
If you currently do not have a cutter you want the Cameo 4 for sure. Portrait has many limitations. We even have small starter kits on our website where you basically get the material FREE. Here is the link: trw.fyi/2SQfCIC
Hi! Great process. However it was really difficult to see the fine pieces being pulled as your weeding hand was blocking most of it. Perhaps if you place the camera on the opposite side of your dominate hand it would be best. I’ve noticed this on most of your videos. I’m a visual learner, so I rely on the visual details. In the end, thanks for all your knowledge and videos!
Thank you for this. I have to try it. I don't have a light box but can probably make due until I can get one. I was working on the Jurassic Park logo and what a nightmare. All the holes in the palm trees and the dino teeth. But I'm having trouble when it comes out of my cameo 4. Some of the tiny leaves and teeth are out of place because of the blade. I'm using matte removable cricut vinyl. I'm guessing my settings are wrong. I have blade depth at 2 and force at 15. All else is default. I have it sent to matte. Any advice on this? It's been happening on my tiny cuts. Lately I've been making little 1 x 1 inch decals for egg cartons.
You can do it! Be gentle when weeding this way as to not pierce your transfer tape. I prefer to use a medium tack tape for this, but if you're gentle then just about any kind will do. We have other videos showing reverse weeding if you'd like to see more :-) -TRW Crystal
Yes, if you're laying your hand on it to reach pieces. I like to kind of spider web my fingers and only touch areas that won't be needed. Another way cool trick... parchment paper. If you're heavy handed then this is what you'll want. It won't stick to any of the decal surfaces, and if you forget, lay your hand down, then you're fine. Just keep the area you're not weeding covered, move, repeat. -TRW Crystal
What do u do with the reverse weeded finished decal if you are not going to apply it right away to a car? Also what do u put on the reverse weeded car decal to ship it to someone so they can easily transfer to their car?
Just replace it back to it's original backing once you're finished. To ship you can either put it in a regular letter envelope if small, or fold a piece of cardboard around it in a manilla. -TRW Crystal
Haha! I wish I had watched this before having to cut 4 "I ❤️ My Shiz Su"decals 😂. I'll know better now. It's a little hard to see with your right hand shadowing it, but I get the idea. Thank you! (Still waiting for the mini pack with “I ❤️ My Westie". Saving my $10 credit for that one. ☺️)
I've heard a lot of "I wish I knew that earlier!" Now I wish we released the video earlier LOL. I'm sorry the video wasn't super clear! Hopefully our design team will release more doggy designs soon :) -TRW Bri
Yes since it's exposed. You'll also likely be getting hand oils on it touching everything to weed it out, but that's ok. The app tape is just temporary. If it gets a little messed up, that's A-ok! -TRW Crystal
I hear that you cant reapply the carrier because the vinyl activates once its off and makes it not work as well- have you ever had any issues with this when shipping reverse weeded decals?
I personally have not. The adhesive is just adhesive, there's no activating it. Basically removing it from the carrier breaks those "press lines" the blade makes as it pushes down to cut. It doesn't stick any better or worse than just a regular roll of vinyl sitting around. I do, for extra insurance, make sure I squeegee it back down to remove air bubbles that can make it not adhere as well, and sometimes like to press my decal between two pieces of cardboard and tape the cardboard here and there just so it can't shimmy out. It keeps it from being damaged in shipping (bends etc). -TRW Crystal
@@koru65 A pounce pad is a soft pad with fine colored chalk in it that sign painters and quilters use to transfer patterns. It also works great on vinyl sign material and heat vinyl. After you cut your vinyl you just wipe the pad on the vinyl and the powder will show the cut lines very clearly without a light box. After you weed the vinyl the powder will just wipe away. The powder will not affect the adhesive in any way. It's called the HANCY QUILT POUNCE PAD. They are available on etsy, e-bay and Amazon. It will eliminate the frustration of weeding and save a ton of time.
Not an easy way to do that, since after you reverse weed the first color, if you were to apply that transfer tape to the second color, any adhesive vinyl UNDER the first color will stick to the first color. What you could do is apply separate transfer tape to each decal color and reverse weed them both. Then, whichever color is to be the bottom or back layer, use our squeegee trick to roll the app tape off the back layer decal. To do this, place the protective backing sheet back on the decal. Flip it over and apply pressure from your squeegee to the decal as you roll the app tape off of the decal. Then, layer your top layer on top of the back layer as you'd normally do with our parchment paper trick. -TRW Pilar
We do show how to use the squeegee trick in this TikTok! www.tiktok.com/@rhinestoneworld/video/7042136893051620655?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1 -TRW Pilar

That was pretty cool. We have done some reverse weeding before by placing the whole image which was nothing but 12"x18" 4pt type. The whole 11"x17" metal plate was nothing but that 4pt type. After we applied we weeded the story or what we called the bible. We call those jobs the bible cause customers what to put 12 pages of the bible on one page and demand it to be done no matter what. LOL But for the reverse weed it worked great,

LoL you call that a small decal with fine details LOL LOL LOL!! This one massive compared to the intricate cutting I do the size of the tip of my pinky!!
Thanks for the Comment. Yes, this overall decal size was not small. However, there were parts of the decal that were very small cuts and if you are missing an Eye on a dog design that can make a big difference in the look of the design.
Learned this about a year ago. I also figured out if you put a piece of parchment paper under your hand your hand wont stick to the decal.
Thanks for the tip!🥰️

Aren't you contaminating the adhesive of the decal with reverse weeding?
Yes, if you're laying your hand on it to reach pieces. I like to kind of spider web my fingers and only touch areas that won't be needed. Another way cool trick... parchment paper. If you're heavy handed then this is what you'll want. It won't stick to any of the decal surfaces, and if you forget, lay your hand down, then you're fine. Just keep the area you're not weeding covered, move, repeat.
-TRW Crystal
Thank you. Love the idea. Great help
Glad it was helpful! 😊

Hopefully our design team will release more doggy designs soon :)

I Just did 500 weeds today by hand. My finger tips are raw.
Ooof--yeah that can happen but sounds like an amazing order! Great job! -TRW Pilar
It's all in the details.

Yes! If you can get the small things right, the big parts of the project are a breeze! - TRW Richard
Isn’t there a bigger chance of getting dust on the adhesive side by reverse weeding?
Yes since it's exposed. You'll also likely be getting hand oils on it touching everything to weed it out, but that's ok. The app tape is just temporary. If it gets a little messed up, that's A-ok!
-TRW Crystal
Thank you very good information
You're welcome!
-TRW Bri

Thanks for the tip! 👍🏻💕

Using a powder pounce pad makes the cut lines show up much better than a light box.
Hi curious as to what is a powder pounce pad?
I'll be sure to pass your suggestion on to Matt, it seems very interesting. :)
-TRW Bri
@@dtacklind that sounds super messy !!!
@@Daniel_Plainview It's not messy at all. The fine powder wipes off and doesn't affect the vinyl glue.
What if you need to reverse weed 2 parts of the same decal? Is there a way to do it and have both parts of 1 piece of transfer tape?
-TRW Pilar
@@TheRhinestoneWorld thanks for the advice. You don’t happen to have a video showing how to do this do you?

Hi. What brand of transfer tape do you use?
We use different tapes for different materials, but ColorSpark Medium Tack Application tape has been my go-to lately!
- TRW Haley
Does this work for HTV as well?
For now, I'm only positive the hack works well with FDC. I can't imagine why it wouldn't work with HTV, though. Feel free to try it :)
-TRW Bri
Thank you. Can't hurt, right? I have smaller designs for masks that I sometimes have issues weeding so I'm going to give it a try.
What kind of transfer paper was he using?
He uses one of our R tapes:

Where do you get carrier sheets that are not white?
We use Siser and ColorSpark HTV, neither of which have white carrier sheets! They both use a clear carrier sheet.
- TRW Haley
Hey, how come when you start weeding, you can just peel off layers smoothly but when I start weeding the vinyl sticks and I have to go slow.
Are you using our ColorSpark vinyls? Either the brand is the issue or the cut settings needs adjusted a touch. We have a great video on our channel on how to find your cut specs and settings by testing a lot of our materials. It's a touch long but soooo worth the watch!

LOL But for the reverse weed it worked great,
I'm glad we could help you! Some orders can be a bit overwhelming.

Brilliant
