    Couple things that have to be pointed out.
    1) Ford Never intended the E-transit to have one-pedal driving as they wanted this to be as similar to a gas/diesel van as possible when it comes to the driving experience. They learned through surveys and studies that a lot of people “hiccups” to switching to EV’s is part of the driving experience. For fleet owners who make up a large part of sales, this worry is no longer a viable reason to avoid a purchase. This also reduces the learning curve for those who may be in different vans from time to time.
    2) low will never give you “full-Regen” as it is purposely meant for providing a lower “gear ratio” to help with torque application. I.E. snow or slippery conditions. They idea is to deliver power mich slower so that you reduce the chance of spinning the wheels. For full power, you have to remain in D.
    3) longer wheels as transits have 180° folding doors, but the shorter wheelbase does not as there is no space for ford to install the “bump stops” for the doors.

      Came here to say this, especially the mention of driving in 'L'. I agree with him on the key though. Especially if this is a last mile delivery vehicle, having to pop that key out and not just have push button start by default is ridiculous.

      I should do a follow-up but by now I figure other people have probably posted honest reviews from an owner perspective. One neat thing I did learn after this video is there's a button on the bottom left that will hold the vehicle at a stop after you press the brake instead of creep forward... it's not as good as one-pedal driving, but it's not bad.

    Green car reports did a write up about the E Transit last month and noted this about regen braking:
    "The E-Transit has a different sort of regenerative braking interface-one that emulates Ford’s European hybrid models rather than other Ford electric models such as the Mustang Mach-E and upcoming F-150 Lightning. In ‘D,’ the E-Transit glides by default, but three taps of the brake increases regenerative braking behavior incrementally-allowing about 30%, 60%, and 100% of its maximum regen through respective taps. Or to skip directly to maximum regen you can hit the ‘L’ button at the center of the shift selector dial. Even then you won’t quite get one-pedal driving or the instant drag you get in some EVs when you let off the accelerator; the E-Transit’s accelerator gives you a moment of pause on lift before it ramps up regen. "

    • @mitchelld1432
      @mitchelld1432  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for this. I just gave it a try, leaving it in D and tapping the pedal 3 times did nothing... Well maybe not nothing, it made that obnoxious dash brake noise last awhile longer than usual.

      @@mitchelld1432 I believe that "tap" doesn't mean tap and release. I think that you have to tap and hold (light brake apply, maybe enough to activate the brake switch). A light brake apply (i.e. tap and hold) activates additional regenerative braking with no or minimal mechanical brakes applied. Therefore, try lightly applying the brakes until you feel additional regenerative braking, release and then apply lightly again and you may feel the next level. Let me know if this works. This is how it was explained to me although I haven't actually tried it.

    There are two levels of regeneration. You don't have to put it in L to get either. Simply tap the brake once, and you'll get level one regeneration, tap second time and you'll get level two regeneration.

    Hi! Thanks for good content. I'm considering ordering an E-Transit and making it an all-electric EV camper van to live in. In Finland E-Transits are not available for test drives unfortunately. Do you happen to know, or have a chance to test out, if 1) the climate control (especially heat and AC, not only the fan) stay on for long periods of time, like hours? Some EVs shut them down after like 10-20 minutes, and the heating/AC from HV battery is the core of EV camping. 2) Can the daylights be turned off when the AC is running? Some EVS also force to keep the daylights on and don't let those to be turned off, which is quite bad if you wanna stay low profile while camping. 3) Is there a time limit in the 230V outlet, or does it run until the set charge limit is reached or turn off for some other reason at times ? Keeping the outlet on continuously would be of importance for fridge/freezer etc! If you have a chance at helping me out at some of these it would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    • @mitchelld1432
      @mitchelld1432  2 года назад

      I haven't tried running it for hours on end. The A/C is incredible though. Best of any van I've had. The 230V outlet charges to the set point, I only charge to 90% most of the time. A fridge/freezer will probably need to be plugged into the 12V system, which will likely not have the "alternator" or transformer or whatever they use active unless the key is on. My guess is it'd drain the 12V battery, but haven't tried it. Sorry I'm not more help.

    Regarding the "insert key" logic, I suspect it may have come from surveys/studies. My mother got her first "Push to Start" car and she hates it! Well I’ve had my E transit for two weeks now, hopefully both of us have learned a lot. Like driving the car in low does give you more region, but it cuts your power at 75%. Your region in drive mode will increase if you tap the brakes. And the turn key option versus button is something you can pay for up front. I ordered 144" wheelbase low roof model. I'm an AC Guy too. Can you review the Heat and AC in this van? Does it eat the battery power up? Does it work well? Some days the van is our only place to cool down so AC is important.

    • @mitchelld1432
      @mitchelld1432  2 года назад

      The AC barely uses much power in the grand scheme of things. However it does not have a heat pump for heat, so it will use a fair amount of battery to run the heat. From my experience driving a Chevy Bolt, which is the same size, battery and similar heating area. I would guess, with a partition in that is... I would estimate when it's really freaking cold, it probably uses about 20 to 30% of your battery for heating the cabin. The smarter thing about the Chevy Bolt is that they put heated seats in all of the models, even though it's a stripped out car, it has heated seats because heating your seat uses far less power to keep you warm and you can keep the heat set far lower and use less battery.
      As an HVAC guy, you know how much power resistive heat uses.
      As for the AC output, I really haven't seen hot hot days yet.

    You don't have to use Low mode for maximum regenerative braking/1-pedal driving. (Assuming it's like the Mach-E anyway, which uses the same shift knob.) I would check the big screen settings to make sure you're on regen mode.
    Or it's as you said "scare off new EV drivers" - they make it crappy regen and crappy acceleration to make it feel more like a crap-Transit?
    I am curious about your complaint about the partition - you complain about it, then say it's a third-party, and that you _heard_ the factory is bad... Have you actually seen the factory one? Maybe it's bad relative to Sprinter, but is better than that one?

    • @mitchelld1432
      @mitchelld1432  2 года назад +4

      The problem with the partition is more that the Ford seats are too far back behind the B-pillar. The Sprinter seats don't intrude into the cargo area, but the Transit seats do. It's just a worse design that costs cargo space, which is unfortunate. Looking on Ford's site now, they have a different partition, as opposed to the one with the door, which is what they offered when I ordered. Apparently now they offer push button start too, which wasn't an option when I placed my order in November.

  • @iivaridark6850
    @iivaridark6850 2 года назад

    Well, a little better review than the first one I watched - but it is a Ford which means it has a very conservative background I think. Maybe fossil-type... But time will tell if it is junk. That part hanging from the roof tells something. The good old car manufacturers are sometimes very much ridiculous. When the local Ford importer here in Finland let out the prices I asked what the delivery times for E-transit would be they told me ONE year. So no hurry just wait until someone does a good electric van from bottom up... The E-Sprinter is much more expensive and has much less power - same thing with VW E-Crafter. I think both will be soon phased out - those both Daimler and VAG will have to do something really. Oh, there was some stories (in some tech magazine if I'm correct) about Renault E-Master full size electric van but not even the importer was interested.
    So the E-transit is a good beginning maybe. At least it has decent power. But maybe designing an electric van should be done from a very different perspective than they now have with ICE vans?

    I've driven a cargo Transit with the non-turbo 3.7L V6 that makes 275 HP. It handles like a car and the power is great for an empty box on wheels, but the build quality of the Transit is sub-par compared to the venerable Econoline that it replaced. The driveshafts are complete junk and require inspection every 40,000 miles. The E-Series was a rock-solid vehicle for decades and was built on a heavy-duty truck frame. Aside from some issues with the tie rods, it was a great van that could last hundreds of thousands of miles. Sadly, however, Ford put the E-Series on the backburner and reduced it to a fleet cutaway vehicle. Now we're stuck with something that is half as great. The Fiat Ducato based Ram Promaster is worse. Electrical and engine problems galore. I've heard that the older Sprinters were more reliable than the newer ones too.

    That screen is way to exposed to be in a work truck, I can see that being accidentally elbowed or punched

    Think you need to research the functions of the vehicle before you do a video. Why would you have full power in Low mode. You complained about the partition only to say it’s off the market meaning you chose it. A person who has a cargo van and doesn’t put a partition is a fool. Not everyone applications requires it.

    Should've gone with L3H2 🤦🏻‍♂️
    It also drives better, and your Benz is longer than the L2H2, so no wonder you got space problems

    These legacy automakers are lazy, and basically used a shell and frame of a gas vehicle and just slapped the most rudimentary EV parts to get it out the door using most of the common components used in their other cars. They didn’t want to put in the effort to innovate and design a vehicle from the wheels up for maximum efficiency and performance. You’re going to have to wait for Tesla to bring a truly innovative van into service….unfortunately, it’ll be a few years after the Cyber truck comes out. You’ll probably be ready to get rid of this by then. Thanks for sharing.

    A lot of things you dislike about it I love. I don’t think you can compare a cargo service fan to personal electric vehicles. I’m sure one of the most significant obstacles engineers faced was added weight to the Van, affecting mileage. which probably led to a lot of the changes from passenger vehicles

    Wow....why did you buy one? Seems a lot of your grievances could have been avoided by a bit of research. Work vehicles are just tools of the trade...use what works for you and don't cry about a key. lol

    I think you spelled "Initial Impressions" wrong.... how you guna own a vehicle for 5 miles and film a "review" when you don't even know how some of the features work? Not to mention... who the he'll reviews a electric vehicle and doesn't even discuss the actual range/charging speeds etc.
    Try again mate
