    the extended version shows how the colonists came across the face huggers, which happened to be Newts' family, and more of Ripley's past is discussed; with her daughter that had died of old age just 2 years before Ripley was rescued. when Ripley meets Newt, the relationship between them really hits harder as Ripley's mother instincts kick in.

So the extended cut gives it a slightly fuller story. Odd fact, the character of Vasquez is played by Jewish-American actor Jenette Goldstein, whom you might've seen in TITANIC and TERMINATOR 2. Agreed. Up until that point we only knew the predator species hunted on Earth. It's certainly easy to assume they hunted on other planets. But there was no confirmation in the first movie. But in Predator 2 they absolutely confirm it. And yes, that movie is responsible for the entire crossover of Aliens vs Predator. Video games, comic books, novels, the movies, all started at that single point, when someone said "You know what would be *really* cool?" Shame that they're skipping it.

      also, it explains the inexperience of Gorman, there was no need to send the whole squad to check out for the people, you know there is no one mining the building, so either all the people are held hostage or dead, so you hold back the squad, send a three-man recon team to scout the area find out what happened. if there was any trouble they get in and get out and bring the rest of the unit for backup. just sending the whole unit recipe for disaster. It always irks me, but understand there is no movie if they did this right, could found the aliens were there, not engage them at all, got the fuck out of dodge, and nuke the planet from space and on their way home.

    The LV-426 colony consisted of 60+ "families", rather than individuals, so about 200-300 people, roughly. And as a result, hundreds of Xenos. Just to clarify. That would be one crazy scenario!
    Such a good movie still, after all these years. Not many movies from my birth year hold up into adulthood, but this one certainly does. I've quoted the hell outta Bill Paxton's lines through the years, "What are we gonna do now, man?! Game over, man! Game OVER!!" 😂 That one was so good, it got around pretty well before memes even came into the "picture" (haaaa, I did a pun). The characters in this one are just so good. Coulda just been a one-dimensional action flick, and probably looks like it on paper to most, but it is so much more. And what a finale! It'll be great to recommend this to my grandkids one day.
    And that Cybertruck comment was gold, btw. lol I wouldn't be surprised if Elon took some inspiration from it. I was obsessed with the Aliens toys/vehicles, and designs myself when I was but a wee lad. Always thought it had some really sick designs in it, especially the creature design inspired by H.R. Giger's from the first film. The Queen was such a dope new design too. I had one of those toys also, and would fight it against Ripley in her walker. Ahhh, such simpler times. Damn unexpected nostalgia trip... making me miss my childhood and shiz. It's all your guys' fault! lol
    **Edit: No Alien 3? I actually really enjoyed that one. It's kind of its own self-contained story involving Ripley. And David Fincher directed it, director of Se7en. He brings that gritty, raw style he has to it. There are some minor lore inconsistencies, but it's still a really good flick imo, with some really great moments. There are far more lore inconsistencies in the AvP series. Feels far more like they were just capitalizing on the franchise name. The films are also notorious for being disliked by old-school Alien and Predator fans largely for that reason (and I gotta count myself among them). They're cartoony (too much CGI), artificial, and over-the-top, with really flimsy plots. The original was the best of the bunch, and has some cool moments, but overall I think falls flat because those moments seemed to be the only good thing in it. They're also just superficial, "Oh, look at that!" moments. Not exactly groundbreaking. The original films feel way more grounded and believable. The AvP series feels like, "Hey, you know what would be cool? If we put these two creatures together!" Yes, and maybe also make a good story please?! lol I used to play the video game when it came out in '99, and THAT was legit, but they followed the lore, and found a creative way of introducing the Predator into it. The films are pretty subpar imo. Alien 3 is way more worth a watch than AvP. I hate to be a critic after offering so much praise, but it was inevitable someone was gonna say it, so it might as well be me. lol The most one could say about AvP, putting it up against the originals, is that it's a good popcorn flick. And the creature design is pretty cool in places. It's a good flick if you wanna just shut off and enjoy some mindless action. Just don't expect it to make a lot of sense all the time, or blow your mind on the plot (that goes for all the AvP films, unfortunately), and you won't be disappointed.
    As for 'Aliens', I know what you mean Kacee, and I still like 'Alien' equally, but for different reasons, because I feel 'Alien' and 'Aliens' are very different. 'Alien' is more claustrophobic sci-fi/horror-themed, while 'Aliens' is more action/thriller with horror elements. Since they're in pretty different categories, it's hard for me to call one "better". They both suit completely different moods, I find. Objectively, 'Alien' will always be regarded as one of the best sci-fi/horror films in history, for sure, both for what it accomplished, and what it inspired, as will 'Aliens' for what it improved upon and added. That being said, you're not alone, 'Aliens' is a lot of people's favorite. Personally, I just don't feel like they're in competition with one another, because I think they ride in different lanes.
    OK, Alien nerd rant over. lol Feel free to correct me on anything, disagree, or to add to, anybody. This is a topic I LOVE, and I'm not above criticism. If you dish it out, you gotta be able to take it. 🙂 And not bailing on you guys either! I'll still be here to see how you guys fancy AvP. ✊ Gotta see how it stacks up to the OGs.

      We see in the extended version that Hadley's Hope has a population of 158. Anyway, the proportion human-alien cannot be 1:1 because we know that some facehuggers were removed before implanting the embryos, and a number of colonists must have been killed instead of infected, for food I guess. We must also subtract Newt from the count. I'd estimate a hundred xenomorphs, maybe a dozen more. The Marines did a pretty good job though. The Xenos are pretty much decimated by the end of the movie. When Ripley confronts the Queen in the "throne room", a limited number of aliens remains around. If she had encountered a situation comparable to that of the Marines' first contact with the nest, she would not have survived.

    In Special Edison release, James Cameron added more details about Ridley and Newt lives before the mission. Ripley learns about her own daughter passing away of old age by the time she was rescued. It shows how much time she’s lost sleeping in space and her grief on her daughter is recent for her.
    Newt is shown with her family and the lives of the colonist. You get to see her with her brother and father. She is present when the first face hugger is brought into the colony.
    The theme of the film mirror the maternal protective instincts. Ripley with Newt and the Queen with her offspring. So the last act is mother vs mother.

    37:12 - Hudson's line about killing Burke got the loudest cheer in our theater on premiere night.
    2 bits of Movie trivia that were included in the extended cut of the film. 1. Ripley had a daughter about Newt's age during the first movie. By the time Ripley was rescued her daughter had grown up, grown old and died. It explains why she connected with Newt so quickly. 2. During the stand off scenes there were multiple auto cannons that helped protect them. ( I always thought they didn't have enough fire power to hold off the Aliens. ) The guns FINALLY ran out of ammo during the last stand, part of the reason they lost that position.
    Video Game Halo (2001) created a character that was directly inspired by Sergeant Apone, Sergeant Johnson. His look, the cigar, the way he talked and acts were all directly inspired my Apone. Halo had a transport pilot with the call sign Foehammer that also had the way she sounded talked directly taken from this movie's pilot. The banter between the soldiers in Halo, including directly copied lines, were also cribbed from Aliens.

You see it in their personalities, like how close Vasquez and Drake are because they both grew up as orphans before being selected for the smart gun program together. Hudson being the tech specialist and a gamer, which is why he knows the equipment in and out and is so cocky but isn't a natural soldier. The pilot and how she doesn't panic at seeing the alien she immediately goes for her gun to fight. Every character feels like a real person. "Xenomorph" is not the name of the species. For one thing: How would Gorman know anything about their existence? It's just a generic term for aliens of any kind. Some comics and games and non-canon media mistook it for the name of the species, but mostly it's just people wrongly assuming. It was just a scene put in the movie to show that Gorman was prone to using longer words than necessary, to suggest that he was an officer school graduate, rather than someone who had worked his way up the ranks, and that he therefore had no actual combat experience.

      Morph = shape.
      Greek or Latin, now scientific terms.

    • @michaelccozens
      @michaelccozens 2 года назад

      Fair, but it's kinda both. Xenomorph is a general term for any variety of alien life (though the specific reference to the alien shape of the creature is... interesting), but the Alien also appears to be the only other lifeform (or, at least, the only other significant lifeform) that humanity has encountered. So the general term colloquially, and perhaps officially, becomes the specific.
      The Alien was given a scientific name or two in canon; Linguafoeda acheronsis ("foul tongue of Acheron") in the comics, and Internecivus raptus ("murderous thief") in the Alien Quadrilogy DVD features. It also inspired the name of an extinct parasitoid wasp (the "Xenomorph" wasp) due to the insect's familiar and gruesome life-cycle, which is also seen in other extant wasp species, like the Tarantula Hawk.

    • @LongandWeirdName
      @LongandWeirdName 2 года назад

      Uhm, actually... And this is canon... From later in the franchise.
      It's because they are foreign shaped, even to their own species. The embryo takes on the attributes of the host it was planted in. Must be taking in host DNA as a building block. Depending on the animal the facehugger targets, the outcome may look like two different species. For proof see dog based xeno from Alien 3(shorter limbs, longer body) and Predalien from AvP(halfway between a Xeno and a Yautja). The comics have them "impregnate" rhinos and elephants, as well as big cats. Now those are freaky looking.

    I love the old format you used to film your videos, up close to the camara, and it's back again with this video, love this movie and the third one as well.

    They never made a third movie and they all lived happily ever after.

    One of my top 5 favorite SciFi films of all time. Have seen it dozens of times and it never gets old.
    One I first saw it in a theater, I remember the audience erupting in thunderous applause and cheers when Ripley finally closed that Airlock.
    Absolutely fantastic movie.
