- This is Kacee's First Time Watching Reaction to the movie Galaxy Quest (1999). The cast of a science fiction show from the 1970s, who are now eking out a livelihood through reruns and science fiction conventions is beamed onboard an alien spacecraft. The group of aliens ask the celebrities for assistance in their attempt to overthrow the repressive rule in their solar system because they believe the cast's epic on-screen dramas are historical records of real-life exploits.

Nothing Better Than A Young Sam Rockwell And A Baby Justin Long 😅
This movie was voted as one of the top 10 best star trek movies by trek fans at a Las Vegas convention.
Sigourney Weaver's role in this is based off of a naval dive officer I think which relays commands from the captain to the crew in this case to the ship.
Thumbs down for throwing the word "haters" around like candy ... which just showcases that you FAILED TO RECOGNISE THE VALID CRITICISM of Jason at the start ... because he did act like a jerk AND nobody from his "friends" liked him!
TRUTH IS A GOOD THING ... and it isnt "hate"! Grow up and get off the propagandist rhetoric wagon, because "hater" is something created by THE CORPORATIONS who cant deal with valid criticism.
Star Trek TOS started in the 60's so the nerds of that time had something to geek out with.
Also at star trek cons the actors like Michael Dorn(Worf) and LeVar Burton(Geordi) respond to tech questions and even at times explain the lore themselves or how the Enterprise works and which decks hold what.
The greatest performance in all of acting is Alan Rickman’s, “By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings.” The sense of defeat and misery is so perfectly evoked by a master actor.
true, but did you notice the cut? i keep wondering what else he originally said.
That was great. I have to also credit Sam Rockwell on some great line delivery as well. His tone inflections were perfect when he saw Fred making out with the alien woman and he said "Oh ... That's Not Right."
@@dunringill1747 absolutely. Sam Rockwell was amazing.
@@dunringill1747 Sam Rockwell is, without a doubt, my favorite performance of the whole film. He just killed it on every single opportunity they gave him.
@@TheGoIsWin21 Sam Rockwell is an impressive actor in everything I've seen him in.
Intelligence is knowing that Galaxy Quest isn't a Star Trek film. Wisdom is knowing that Galaxy quest is the best Star Trek film.
Charisma is convincing another that Galaxy Quest is a lost Star Trek.
and Love is The Orville
And Constitution is hearing yourself off-handedly referred to as a "nerd that came before us" and not breaking down and sobbing.
Charisma is being able to sell a tomato based fruit salad.
A tomato based fruit salad would simply be salsa.
It's the best " Star Trekkie " film ever.
43:19 You can tell by Alan Rickman’s emotional delivery. The line Alexander Dane hates the most is now the most important and sincere thing he’s ever said in his life. I. Love. This. Move!
Enrico Colantoni (Mathesar) thought of the signature way the Thermians speak and move when he auditioned for the movie (he actually based the speech pattern on a vocal exercise that stage actors often do to warm up their voices before performing). The filmmakers loved his audition so much that they hired him for the role of Mathesar and put him in charge of teaching the actors how to act like a Thermian.
The sitcom he got famous on, Just Shoot Me, is a must watch. He plays Elliott DiMauro a fashion and model photographer.
@@jeffk.9075 The program I know him from is Person of Interest. He plays all his parts so well.
@@davidgoza5620he’s also good in flashpoint
@@davidgoza5620 For me he's Keith Mars, then Mathesar, then from PoI.
@MagsonDare For me he's also Greg Parker from the Canadian cop show "FlashPoint" which he is wonderful in. Seriously, the guy is amazing in anything he does.
Gwen is basically a sex object type trope in the original series, that can only repeat after the computer.
However, the Thermians took this as her being the only one able to communicate with the computer, hence it ignores every query from anyone else.
Even more, they *personalized* it to her, so it doesn't have the Siri problem.
Sigorney is the "7 of 9"from ST:Voyager (Jeri Ryan) of this Movie
It would be great if there was some explanation that the computer simply didn't speak English and that she was literally the only one who could understand what it was saying.
That's why it's extra funny when she explodes and yells, "Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. It's stupid, but I'm going to do it, okay?!"
Enrico Colantoni as Matthezar is one of the most underrated performances in comedy history. He expertly combines several sci-fi tropes and is totally committed to seriousness of his character, which actually makes him even funnier. The other actors get all the credit and he is sadly often not mentioned.
and its weird seeing him with hair.
My father is a fan of the old 60's Star Trek and introduced me to it when I was a small child. Then we watched The Next Generation and the rest of the 90's Star Trek together. We saw this in a theater together and it was simply a great experience. From the non-referential comedy to the sci-fi and nerd in-jokes, even the 3 aspect ratio changes during the film, it was all so well crafted and with so much heart. One of my favorite movies and theater experiences.
Good catch on the aspect ratios.
I saw this with my biggest nerd friend (and he could say the same about me). We’re old enough to have seen OST in the mid 70s when it first went into syndication. We never got into STNG however. By the time it came out we had caught the D&D bug and/or were nerding out on different things.
A bit of fun trivia: erotic fan fic got started with the OST fandom. It was called Kirk/Spock fiction. If you’ve heard the term “slash fic”, it comes from the “/“ between Kirk and Spock. Once you’ve heard the concept, you can’t watch the original series the same way. The lovers’ triangle between Kirk, Spock, and Dr. McCoy becomes clear. McCoy is the older lover, discarded for the younger, hotter Spock.
@@Caseytify Fun fact on the aspect ratio. It changes twice. First, when the old show footage ends at the convention. Second, when the ship opens to reveal the planets and Jason realizes he’s actually in space.
There's also a fair amount of the 80s Buck Rogers in this
Yes, Fred was stoned. 😆
Fun Fact: Rockwell's scream was unscripted. If you watch the scene again, Sigourney's startled jump was genuine.
... You are correct, this is less a parody than a love letter to fandom.
One thing I noticed was that the reboot appeared 18 years after the first show. That is the same time gap between Star Trek original series and The Next Generation.
Oh, if you look closely at Sigourney's lips at the start of the chomper scene, "Screw this!" was _not_ what she said. 😏
It's not a reboot,.dumbass.
The Chomper section is apparently where quite a few edits seemed to have happened since a deleted scene explains why Gwen looks how she does afterwards cause one of Serris' men also makes it through the Chompers until Gwen distracts them by unzipping her suit long enough for the last Chomper to crush them.
Sigourney Weaver liked her blond wig so much that she kept it after the shoot. Tony Shalhoub in the original script was supposed to be stoned throughout and that's why he looks so chill all the time while eating snacks. Fun Factoid - the NTE prefix for the ship stands for Not The Enterprise.
One of the most underrated jokes in this movie is that Guy, who spends the movie shouting “Don’t open that! Is there air!” and “The aliens are evil!” gets a role in the reboot as the ‘Security Chief.’ Perfect casting.
Plus his nickname: "Roc"...
Something most people don’t realize about Alan Rickman he was just as great comedically as he was dramatically, between this and dogma he really showed his comedic chops.
My favourite line is “but the animal is inside out…..(boom)and it explode.” Such a hard line to say straight faced.
That line wasn't Rickman tho
@@rickandrygel913 no but it’s still my favourite line
I always found Rickman hilarious in Robin Hood as well
AND, that he didn't duck when it did. Because he was an alien and didn't have that reflex. That is the funny visual aspect I like.
@@jaredfalk7701 His cancelling Christmas was pure gold.
I worked on two films that Alan Rickman was in. Bob Roberts and Dogma. I had several conversations with him even though I was at the bottom of the totem pole as far as crew was concerned he took the time to talk to everyone. He was a very humble nice guy.
Dogma is one of my favorite films of all time.
I've always said jokingly that this is my favorite Star Trek movie.
Would trekkers squeak when you tell them that?
@@789syrus789 No, most of us are in complete agreement that this is one of the best Star Trek movies.
I always always always say that this movie was a love letter to Star Trek and the fans! I'm one of them. xD
2nd favorite, Wrath of Khan is number 1. This is number 2.
@@789syrus789 No, it's won fan polls before, and Wil Wheaton and Nicholas Meyer have both said it's the best Star Trek film. Brent Spiner said, "Why didn't WE (the TNG cast) do this?"
"She went from Ripley to this." Sigourney was actually excited to play against type and be the bimbo in this movie. It was brilliant casting.
"Young Laredo" was a Wesley Crusher gag. Basically the "boy wonder" trope.
"Why are you so casual?" In the original version, before they edited it to get a PG rating, Fred was supposed to be a stoner. That's why he also always has a bag of munchies.
"I would have taken my 'cap' off." As much as he complains about being typecast in his role, he never takes that prosthetic off... even when he's at home.
Sam Rockwell is such an underrated actor.
60's nerd here, recipient of High School science award, so totally geeked. For us, yes, it was comics and now it is a dream to see this whole Marvel Universe brought to life as I was much more of a Marvel fan than DC. I played the first commercial video game at the St. Louis airport back in 1972, and I am still a big MMO gamer at 70! You guys are awesome. Thanks for a fun view!
24:30 "Miners not minors!!" 😆🤣 This is one of the funniest things in the movie for me and I just love their cackling laugh reactions, that's me every time! :D
i use this joke when i can when ppl talk about Miners and try to make them uncomfortable about it "what do kids have to do with this!?" ... luckily they i joking and laugh
they know im joking and laugh*... some do get uncomfortable though XD
Sigourney Weaver confirmed that a rated R director's cut exists. Finding and releasing that version is more important than the Snyder Cut.
That makes sense, because when they're in the hall with the smashy things she clearly says fuck that but they changed it to screw.
I was told the R version is due to Sigourney Weaver's character getting assulted by one of Sarris' troops which is where her top gets ripped. I am happy with the current version.
@@timschroyer1257 If that is the reason for the R rating then I agree it doesn't need to be in the movie. That would be too serious a deviation in tone. This movie hits all the right notes already.
@@timschroyer1257they also cut scenes with fred getting high.
Actually, Sigourney pulls her top open, showing some cleavage as a trick to distract, then squish, the 2 green guys after one of them mentions liking the way that human looks. So, she played them. Neither one touched her.
I love this film. It's a real love letter to Star Trek, even down to the cast members hating William Shatner. So funny and heartfelt.
My favourite fact about this movie is that Fred apparently ate a ‘special’ dessert prior to them getting on the ship, hence his behaviour 😂 I don’t know why it was cut out. 😢
They wanted to get a PG-13 rating so had to cut it
@@davidabercrombie5427 that makes sense!
@@davidabercrombie5427 It was PG. Drug references are not hard to find in PG-13 movies.
He was stoned the whole time - munchies every scene.
I remember seeing this in the theater, where they showed Fred getting high. I don't know if they cut those scenes in later showings, or just in the non-theatrical version. So yeah, he was already flying, even without the aid of a space ship.
When shooting the film, Justin Long thought he was overdoing it. One of the execs gave him a copy of a doc called Trekkies. After watching it, Justin was like, “Oh. Yeah. I wasn’t even close.”
This is one of these perfect movies where every single scene is a thing of beauty and every single performance is absolutely goated.
The Thermian side characters and even Sarris, all goated.
What a dream cast! Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Tony Shalhoub were incredible!
the reason Weaver's shirt was open later in the movie was from a deleted scene where she was trying to distract one of the aliens, but that scene was cut, but they had her top open the rest of the movie so they of course couldn't reshoot all those scenes, which is why her shirt is closed half the time, and open the other half.
And Sam Rockwell
You Forgot Sam Rockwell And Justin Long And Dwight Schrute
deff rockwell and justin long... when i saw Jeepers Creepers im like "its the kid from Galaxy Quest... oh no hes effed!
@@fabian5813 don't leave out Darryl chill Mitchell.
One movie that definitely deserved a sequel. There was talk of one, but when Alan Rickman died, it didn't make sense to make it.
what if they get a similiar classically trained actor that has comedic chops... and use the replacing actor joke (producer guy): "ahh theyll get over it, they did in Bewitched , Gresh Prince, etc" (they can list a ton for the movie, and the new guy just always gets crapped on for not being in the original, then he can have an arc by the end of acceptance). Im just spitballing ideas to keep a sequel alive and the way Id write it
Actually, with Lenard Nemoy passed on, one could homage the parallel...
@@DeRockMedia there will not be a sequel however Simon Pegg is making a Galaxy Quest series for Amazon Prime
plus the actor that played tommy webber ( the ships pilot) is a paraplegic now, he had an accident and is permanently in a wheelchair and gave up acting
Why does it hurt me so much that hes gone?
I didnt fakking know him... it still feels like a personal loss T_T
May he rest in peace.
Tim Allen as the egotistical star who irritated other cast members was based upon the dynamic between William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and the cast from original Star Trek. And him getting fed up and telling the kid everything was just a TV show was a direct nod to Shatner's appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1986 when he told hardcore Trekkies to "get a life!" . That scene was a well-executed homage to a great skit.
"That mare had a foal? 🤣😂
@@brownstarslots best SNL appearance EVER!!
Ahhh Yes. One of my all time favorite movies. "Because I died...IN EPISODE 81" 😂😂😂. There's so many great quotes in this movie and by Grabthars Hammer, you will laugh your ass off😂😂
"We have to get out of here before somebody kills Guy!" and the "Well, Screw This!" (Dubbed over "Well, F--- This!") are such great lines by Sigourney Weaver.
I think the line about something killing guy is missed by a lot of people.
I’m always disappointed no one seems to catch the fact that Guy’s character on the new show is nicknamed “Roc.” I thought that was hilarious.
"Didn't you guys ever WATCH the show?" - Best line in the movie imo
Apparently, either William Shatner or Patrick Stewart didn't want to watch this movie... thinking that this was going to spoof on Star Trek. Once they did watch it, though, they actually liked/loved it afterwards, realizing the movie was an homage to the genre.
It was Patrick Stewart. The rest of the cast all told him to watch it, and he did and loved it.
It is a parody, but it's an affectionate parody and people usually assume that parodies are the other type.
I think Jonathan Frakes saw it and convinced Patrick Stewart to go see it, they loved it.
There’s actually an excellent documentary on this movie called ‘Never Surrender.’ It’s a great doc that touches on many of the themes you pointed out - it truly was a love letter to nerd fandom. Recommended watch 👍🏼
i just watcjed it after another reactor did Galaxy Quest within this last week... great doc
@@DeRockMedia is it the doc that mentions that Galaxy Quest was originally rated R? I don't remember where I heard that rumor from, but looking back at the film it does seem like it's true. There's a scene where Weaver's character says "forget that!", but her mouth CLEARLY says the words "F*CK THAT!", so it was dubbed over in post. Also Casey mentions Weaver's bewbs being out randomly, and I heard there was a sexaully suggestive scene that was deleted because it would ruin the PG rating, so it was cut out the film. Hence why her bewbs are out the rest of the film with no explanation lol
Alan Rickman was one of the greatest actors of his Generation, he was so damn good he could pull off any genre with class.
Yes. Yes it is. From nerds to nerds. It's glorious. :)
"Never discount those who know the lore"
Yeah, until they retcon everything.
Before Allen Rickman died, they were seriously looking at an actual continuation series with the main cast…
Tim Allen went to infinity and beyond in this movie for sure.
the scene where he admits to Mathezar that he'd lied, Allen had to go back to the trailer after doing it, he was so distraught. Rickman told him, "I think you've just experienced... acting"
The early part of this movie actually mirrors some of the issues the Star Trek TOS crew faced at conventions before William Shatner received a wakeup call while attending a convention and learning just who was attending for the explicit purpose of seeing him so that he recognized he was already a character model for many of them.
I’m not sure what the hell you’re talking about, but did you see the SNL sketch about Shatner ranting at fans at a convention? “Move out of your parents’ basements, get apartments, and grow the hell up!”
Yeah, Shatner is well known for his disdain of fans. He won't sign autographs or talk to anyone outside of a paid appearance. Which he does very infrequently.
I'd like to see them bring back "Warehouse 13". Endless wonder, endless plots.
Tony Shalhoub's character is a pot head that's why he's so chill with everything
Galaxy quest was my first exposure to Sigourney Weaver as a kid because I was too young to have seen Alien. I just have one word to say....
Daaaaaaaaammmmmnnnn....
You never saw Ghostbusters?
@@grabtharshammer In 1999, when this movie came out in theaters, I would have been 8 or 9 years old, and I didn't watch Ghostbusters until I was maybe 11 or 12.
@@DarkestAndBlackest Wow, Ghostbusters came out in 1984
@@grabtharshammer I'm aware. Still, it doesn't change the fact that I didn't see it until later in life. I grew up poor most of my life. "Never give up never surrender." Winston Churchill would be proud.
"We shall fight on the beaches; we shall fight in space; we shall fight on the planet of cute-looking cannibals. We shall nevah surrender!"
Something I never considered about this film is that is the Thermians based the ship after episodes and schematics from the show, that means that the show runners accidentally invented an actual working spaceship and didn’t realize it, as well as a real time-reversal ability in the Omega 13 device 😂
As a kid, I watched the first episode of Star Trek in 1966 and was surprised it was a series. Absolutely no one at the time thought it would become an international treasure. Enjoyed your reaction, thank you.
I would absolutely love to see "Space: Above and Beyond" get a reboot.
I see your "Space: Above and Beyond" and raise you "SeaQuest DSV"
I raise you firefly! Lol...
@Markus117 I don't think I could tolerate a Firefly remake, it's pretty much perfect as is. Space Above and Beyond was pretty good but never lived up to its full potential, so it would be hard for Hollywood to f**k it up, but I can guarantee that they'd f**k up Firefly
@@chopps75 Your probably right, They would mess it up, But i would still like a re-boot. Because in my mind I'd like to think they would do a decent job if they had the right people on the project. Instead of just having people who don't really care what rubbish they pump out.. 🤞🤔
😂 if you notice, when Saris starts killing the crew towards the end, guy is literally the only person who wasn’t shot. Even tho he literally thought he’d be the first to die earlier 😂
This was fun rewatching Galaxy Quest and seeing Kacee's reactions for the first time seeing it. There are tons of old shows I'd love to see remakes of like: Mission Impossible, I Spy, It Takes A Thief, Man from U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart, Lost In Space, Land of the Giants, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, The Thunderbirds, Space Patrol, and even Green Lantern and Batman. Think of what they could do with the CGI now. Sorry, I know y'all didn't grow up in the 60's when we saw all of these for the very first time... nothing like any of these shows ever existed before them. And y'all probably haven't seen but a handful of these.

Thunderbirds had a reboot in 2015
60s nerds rediscovered The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books and boosted sales tremendously. My older sister would tell us those stories when I was growing up in the late 60s and early 70s. She adapted them to be kid friendly, but the images I have in my mind for certain scenes in the books are the same ones I had when I was a little kid, hearing my older sister tell us those stories for the first time.
The sad thing about it is that there was consideration for the continuation of Galaxy Quest on Amazon as a possible show/movie release before Alan Rickman's passing. Currently, there's only been leaks that Simon Pegg was attempting to do something with the IP.
"13 seconds, to redeem a mistake. Great writing!! ......The show didn't have it."
I had to pause on that one till I finished choking. Excellent.
Young lady, your title idea is THE BEST TRIBUTE and most apt description of this movie I have ever seen.

Every Nerd (which is most of us, in one way or another).
I want a continuation of Chuck. Even if it's a movie, I just want to live in that world again. I truly miss those characters.
Chuck vs. The Cancelation
This movie is perfectly cast, Rickman and Tony Shaloub steal the show for me
I love the question about the kid. That's probably a nod to Westley Crusher on Star Trek The Next Generation, a child prodigy that eventually had a role on the crew.
Probably the best running joke in the whole movie isn't even pointed out. Tony Shalhoub's character isn't Asian. He says "Kwan isn't even my real name." But several times when he's "on-camera," he squints his eyes real tight to look more Asian. This likely references Hollywood's tendency toward casting white actors in Asian or other ethnic roles that are very specifically that ethnicity. More recently, this is exemplified by Scarlett Johansson being cast as Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell, but it goes back decades. The two wildest examples are Mickey Rooney being cast as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and John Wayne (the man, the myth, the legend) playing Genghis Khan in The Conqueror.
During the whole controversy over the casting, the creator of the source material said that Motoko isn't even suppoaed to look asian. The model could have been played by any woman from any background. Japan in that period of the timeline is almost as mixed as the USA of today or other multi-racial mega-countries die to influx of refugees from many corners of the globe.
You guys are right! I was a kid nerd in the 70s, and I definitely used to geek out on Marvel Comics, Star Trek and the original Godzilla TV show. So you guys have definitely been airing my favorite stuff recently!
Did you recognize that in the scene where Sarris shoots everyone all of them are hit except Guy - the extra that usually dies immediately?
PS: A deleted scene shows why her uniform is open like that.
PPS: I would really like a continuation of Babylon 5 - not a remake, a continuation. There's also a German 7-episode show from the 1960ties with a very, very small budget but cool characters and plot - Raumpatroullie Orion. I think that would be a good one for a remake.
Thus movie is a love letter to fandom and a vindication for all the "Red Shirts" who have had to die to demonstrate that the story is a matter of life and death.
It’s been too long now but the correct answer for a show to bring back is Firefly
This would absolutely be my choice. One of my favorite shows of all time!

Right after seeing this movie, Johnathan Frakes, immediately called Patrick Stewrt, and told him he had to see this film
This movie came out same year as The green mile, Sam Rockwell play in that movie to, and shows what a great actor he is.

Oh Childrens, 1960's nerds had the TV shows the original "Lost in Space", the original "Star Trek", "The Twilight Zone", and "The Outer Limits".
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" did have a child join the cast in later seasons (like Tommy). He was Ensign Wesley Crusher, which caused contention among many fans. Nice reactions to this enjoyable film, Anthony & Kacee!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
15:57 Funny Fact: The registry letters that were scrapped off were “NTE” which stood for “Not The Enterprise” 🤣
With the Omega 13 being revealed as a 13 second backward time jump, I hope they didn't write that into the rebooted show too often. Because that shit would get really old really quickly.
I would just run around nutpunching people and then activating the omega 13
This movie is hilarious and it's one of the many reasons I loved Alan Rickman as an actor. He could be funny or serious and be amazing at it.
I'm an old-school nerd. Read SF/Fantasy. Played D&D from back when it was AD&D. Was there or the first arcade-style video games. Watched Hawk the Slayer every time it was on TV (usually a weekend afternoon when they had nothing else to broadcast). Saw all the Star Wars and Star Trek movies in the theater first run. Programmed in BASIC on my Atari 800 computer. Collected comics.
Was a social outcast. Never had a date in high school. Had parents who rarely understood me. Picked last for sports. Bullied at school.
You're right, despite how glorious it sometimes was being a 70s/80s nerd (everything was so shiny and new), it was a rough time. We were the antithesis of cool, and society let us know that at every opportunity. But we endured, we survived, and we changed the world, mostly for the better.
14:32 ...."Why is he a pilot as a child?".... Is a reference to Wesley Crusher, from "Star Trek: The Next Generation", played by a teenager Will Wheaton..... In the show, Crusher was merely a passenger, but due to some circunstancies I won't spoil here, he ended up being one of Enterprise's bridge staff..... Great show......
One of the best Star Trek movies ever made! It's a parody but it also shows respect for the fandom.
It even shows us what would happen if the cast of the original Star Trek series were mistaken for real space heroes where they must fight off an intergalactic warlord. This movie is THREE AMIGOS but in space.
Rickman's delivery is still the best thing in this movie. =))
I'm so happy that you picked up on that this is a love letter, it's not a spoof. The scene near the end, where Tim Allen salutes Justin Long is saying this is for the fans, more or less. They never dissed the fans in this movie, they slightly dissed the writing of Star Trek and other shows by pointing out how some tropes were just bad, but even then they acknowledge that the shows had a cultural impact for the fans.
The scene with Tim Allen getting upset, is a parody of a Will Shatner bit on Saturday Night Live "Get a Life" . The thing is that fandom is about life balance.
The entire cast plus writers, producers and director were so fond of this movie that they participated in a documentary made by a fan years after named "Never Surrender." It currently streams on a major service.
❤Ok, I would love to see a reboot of “Northern Exposure” except that it was a perfect show and nothing would do it justice.
Nerd culture.. Radiation causing giant insects such as in the film Them! (1954). 1956 was The Forbidden Planet which if you have never watched you should if interested in history of sci-fi. You also had things like the series UFO and Space 1999 Remember the toys for both those shows. You then have the puppets for Stingray (1964), Thunderbirds (1965) and Captain Scarlet (1967) or even the Star Fleet/X Bomber series in the 1980's. Should just add Flash Gordon, Rocket Man for the weekend cinema shows although that was before my time.
We were "geeking out" about "Forbidden Planet," "Star Trek," "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Dark Shadows," "UFO," "Space 1999," "Atari Pong" and grabbing the first copies of "D&D" off the shelves.
I love how guy was the only main character not to get shot or injured during the final sequence with Saris tries to sneak in and kill the crew 😂
It would have been so easy for this movie to turn into a mockery of sci-fi and hardcore fandom, but it ended up being a love letter to it. The film managed to laugh with nerd culture and not at it. It's honesty an incredible feat of filmmaking to be able to walk that line, and yet still make an entertaining movie for general audiences.
I've got to say after watching a number of your reactions, Kacee's pattern of predicting so many details and endings of movies well in advance, she's got an amazing intuition for story.
"we have to get out of here before one of those things kills guy!" One of the best context specific throwaway lines ever!
You should watch The Expanse! It’s one of the best scifi shows ever made and I promise you’ll love it.
Stay in it until at least episode four. Some people think it's slow in the beginning; it takes three episodes just to "world build." But then it takes off like a rocket (no pun intended).
It's sort of an "anti-Trek." There is no perfect utopian future for mankind. We screwed everything up, and even though we went out into space we're still scrapping and fighting and screwing things up. There's no "warp drive"; while it's futuristic, they make it as realistic as possible: "hard" science, real physics. Amazing writing, and amazing characters.
Agreeing with Jonny B. Goode. Think of the first four episodes as a single four-hour pilot.
60s nerd here. We had the original Star Trek series. We had early anime's like Speed Racer, Astroboy and Gigantor. Marvel and DC Comics. The Marvel cartoons. Batman. Johnny Quest. James Bond spy type things like The Man From UNCLE, The Girl From UNCLE. Great stuff!!
Don't forget Space Ghost, Rocket Robin Hood, The Herculoids, The Wild Wild West and U.F.O.!!
@@neospock5034 Yeah, I know. The Saturday morning cartoons. I was trying to keep my comment a bit short, lol! And the Avengers, if you know, you know, lol!
Battle of the Planets (G-Force) and Star Blazers
In 76 I lived in Hollywood, California and I had friends who were into being the first ones who helped put on Sci-Fi conventions and I was able to go to them. This was before they were a thing and I met a lot of folks that did this. My boyfriend at the time was, with his friend, one who made actual props from Star Trek and sold them in the merch room in the event. We all got together as a group of 10 and stood in line at the Grauman's Chinese Theater for 4 hours to see the Grand Opening of Star Wars. What a rush that was.
so weird! this movie popped into my head after not watching it for like 13 years ! and now this popped up! Ripley and Professor snape in a movie! sooo dope
Let's get out of here before they kill Guy!
I would like to see Farscape return. If you have not seen the show it is (in my opinion) a great tv series. It originally ran on the Sci-Fi network in the early 90s. Galaxy Quest is a really good movie that tends to be overlooked. It pokes fun at us nerds without being mean. You can tell that the people who made it liked the source material. I was 41 when this came out so I did get all of the references ( in Star Trek, Kirk was always losing his shirt).
Farscape was fantastic. It would also be a great candidate for a reaction series. I have not watched it for some time but I bet it holds up well because of their use of practical effects.
They spoofed Farscape in the 200th episode of Stargate. Ben Browder and Claudia Black were cast members at this point, so they did like a 15 second clip, and OMG it's GOLD. Claudia reprises her character, but they thought it'd be funny if Ben didn't 😂 the whole episode is amazing, they're just making fun of themselves for 45 minutes. They spoof the actors, characters, crew, writers, story-building, everything. It's like their own Galaxy-Quest-feel episode, where it's all for the fans. 😆
@@beetlebob4675 I remember that episode.
jeeze 12 seconds in and i already feel ancient... "watched it when i was a kid" Dude... that movie came out in 1999. In 1999 i was 22 years old and a sergeant in the Marines. I think in was stationed in Japan that year...
As for the TV show i'd like to see rebooted... "V" i loved that show as a kid. I remember i used to glue paper plates together and make flying saucers out of them, draw little windows and green lizard people.
The 20s nerds were writing stories for Weird Tales magazine. The 30s nerds were writing SF; they bussed from California to the first Con in New York in 1939 and dressed up as aliens there. The 60s nerds were reading 'the Trilogy', learning Elvish, and reading everything by the 30s nerds. The 70s nerds were playing tabletop D&D.
I would love to see a reboot of "Dark Angel" with Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly.
By Grathbar's Hammer...
What a savings.
Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite movies of all time. It takes everything I love about sci-fi and comedy and mixes everything so well
60's nerds had all the media of the 60's and prior. Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Voyage, 2001: a space odyssey, James Bond, The Man From Uncle, Dangerman, Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Dr Who, Quatermass, Stingray, Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, War of the Worlds, When Worlds Collide, all the Universal Monster movies, It Came From Outer Space, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Ray Harryhausen, and on and on and on - and actual books, and comics, and radio... Also real space was constantly in the news, the cold war was on, and the coolest muscle cars ever
Never give up, never surrender,

60's nerds were nerding aboust Star Trek!
The little thing I love is that the show had stopped 18 years back, but there were a lot of young fans alongside the older ones, cause we are still watching Star Trek TOS... my mom was born the year that show started, and we keep watching it, and we will keep watching it in the future. This movie is glorious!
A reboot I would love to see would be an obscure 90's Sci-Fi show called "First Wave." It didn't have a budget, but it was a unique show about an Alien invasion of Earth in its first wave. Due to the distances, they would transfer their consciousness to empty human "husk" bodies so that they could proceed with their plan. They had interesting weaknesses though. Sex for reproduction in their alien form was painful, so doing it in their human husks was an addictive change for them. Common and basically free table salt had the effect of heroin on them so addiction and discipline was a problem for their plans for taking over Earth. There were aspects of Nostradamus and prophecies that added mystery and drama. I always thought that with more robust writing and a decent budget, that show in a rebooted form could be really special. It just had so many unique aspects to it.
That was a great show. A shame it isn't available to stream. I agree with you: if done right, it could work as a reboot!
My dream shows for revival are: "Pushing Daisies" and "Firefly."
I loved the whimsical "Pushing Daisies".
Classic movie loved this one as a kid
One of my favorite moments from this movie is when Sam Rockwell yells at Tony Shalhoub for immediately opening the back of the shuttlecraft without questioning whether the atmosphere on the planet is breathable for humans or if the crew/cast would implode like in "The Martian."
This movie reminds me of a few of things. There was a book called "Everything I Needed To Know About Life, I Learned From Star Trek" which was about the moral lessons you can learn from mythology, specifically Star Trek. Joseph Campbell's "The Power of Myth Through Time" was all about how mythology teaches a culture's values and ethics. In the film "They Might Be Giants," George C. Scott has line about movies, specifically westerns: "If you look closely, you can see principles in action. You can see the possibility of justice in proportion. There are no masses in Dodge City - only individuals...whose will for good or evil can bring them to the ends they ought to have. I like that very much."
