thank you for sharing this recipe on how to 'cook up' a song. you are definitely here on purpose, along with your teaching style. now it's time to get into the DAW kitchen. ✌️
thank you so much for this video dude. even though i'm a musician for more than 10 years, i was always afraid to write songs of my own. thank you for reminding that songs don't have to be perfect and you can make beautiful things without sitting there for too long. def gonna watch more content from you, thank you again so much 💚
I'm addicted to your channel, I started watching today and can't stop, I've been a music producer for roughly 3 years collectively, alot of these tips I've been doing by myself with no idea if I was doing anything good, thank you for confirming that what I was doing without advice is what others do as well. Your videos are great, thank you so much
Awesome video, man! I've been "making beats" for years, with MPC and Maschine, but have been learning Ableton over the last year to try to break out of the loop box, if that makes sense. But I've been really having problems trying to conceptualize how to get from start to finish on a complete song. I have learned so many techniques over the last year, but I've been wondering when it was all going to come together and make me a good songwriter, 😂, but I see that I'm going about it all wrong. Thanks a lot for this video. I look forward to getting into my Ableton kitchen and going chefzilla on some songs. You're a great teacher and you have really positive energy, man. I'm hoping the algorithm does good things for you, man, as I'm very grateful that it brought me to your channel. I hope you're well, fine sir.
wow so happy to hear that! and as i mentioned on the other comment, my course will walk you through music theory, ableton, songwriting, production, mixing, and mastering. how to make a song from beginning to end. i don't wanna push it too much in the comments, but just know it would be a really helpful option for where you're at based on what you've told me. if anything you can just check out the free training from the course and see if it's something you'd be into. thanks for watching and commenting!
I really don't comment on videos ever, but this was amazing. It all seems so obvious when you lay it out like this but it was exactly what I needed to hear. I have these 4 things but could never find a way to bring them together. This video is brilliant.
Goodness sake - you've packed a lot of wisdom into this little video. I've been performing for years and kept saying "..right on brother!" every bit of good advice to remove the noise and get to composing!! Thank you for sharing, making, and for being you!
Thank you ❤️ thank you bro.. Iam from other side the planet .. lost, trying to find the way how to make IT.. heave no friends, but awasome gf ( not making music or singin 😢) so I kinda motivate myself but without knowing the way.. only the finish… you are my friend who really helped me.. gr8 video! Thank you for this… I tell you i will watch EVERY your videos.. God bless you and all the people of a good mind who reading this and feel blessed 🙏 this time is awasome.. heave a wonderfull day ❤️
Thank you, I really appreciate your time to make this video!! I was stuck trying to make the "perfect" song, so I lost my enjoyment of creating new songs and ideas. I love your song, it sounds so good, and I love the lyrics as well!! Best of luck to your music career :)
Wow. It doesn't get any better than this. Ethan , dude you are the real deal. I really appreciate what you do, how you do it, and why you do it. For sure the real deal.
Bro!! This is crazy! That's pretty much what i usually do. And i am not a professional our something like that. Good to know im on the right track. Thanks for the amazing video.
The washer line/metaphor was my favourite , it kinda reminded me of Kate Bush's use of a washing machine metaphor in the brilliant Mrs. Bartolozzi . i love the use of the mundane imagery to express the profound feeling . X
Ok, subscribed. I loved this video, I also loved the washing machine line LOL. I'm dabbling with DAW but figured to start with lyrics first. This video helps a lot! thank you!
Another great video! I love the way that you keep everything at a high enough level to get the end-to-end story/flow for creativity and work-flow, it’s really helping my songwriting and production. Keep up the great work brother! 🙏
Your videos are amazing man! Love how authentic you are in every way. Really inspiring for me. I have hundreds of unfinished voice memo ideas and I really want to put these steps to the test to get some finished. Thanks a lot!
Ooo i think Im going to do a ideo on how to finish a voice memo! been wanting to do that for a while. from voice memo to fully produced song. thanks for the encouragement Brandon
I recently found your RUclips channel, and i have learned a lot. I shared your video with my team already. Question for you: I do live recordings instead, do you record all your verses, pre- chorus, and bridges at a stretch or bit by bit?.Been using garageband but will download Appleton soon. God blessyou. @CompleteProducer
Awesome vid man. Subbed! Another thing that helped me is putting on a "no sound visual video" to glance at every now and then while writing songs. You'd be surprised how it helps.
Another banger, Ethan! Been going through your library after I stumbled on your channel from your Coachella interview on Charlie Chang's channel and I'm glad I was brought here Are you planning on doing any content on Celemony Melodyne or Antares Autotune? A Melodyne tutorial would be amazing from you, but I'll take what I can get!
Very informative video sir. Can I ask youa question? How do you make a difference in the verse? Should we make a difference chord progression for the verses and pre chorus? And how to adjust the melody for the verses? (I'm able to make chorus's easy, with all the 4 ingredients you said.. but I'm struggling to turn it into full songs with different sections. If you can help with this, it will be life changing)
I have never encountered a better tutor of music creation than you. Your devotion to Jesus and desire for us to improve as songwriters is evident in every song you write. I really adore it all, man. Finding you has altered the course of my life.
Bro, your videos are helping me a lot with music producing and song writing. Thank you so much bro. I hope you get more and more subscribers. Note: I really think you should collaborate with other creators to increase awareness of your channel to get more subscribers. I really do want you to be more successful bro. Good luck.
Lol the very end. But also such an amazing video. I've started learning music at the start of january. I made on song about halfway through the month. I'm pretty happy with it but theres some things I couldve improved but I'll probably come back to in like a years time to see how I've improved. But after that song I've struggled to make something that fits my next idea. I was going with a sorta atmospheric synthwave sorta thing. Probably a bit too ambitious with my little knowledge on synths. And only until a few days ago I feel like I'm actually getting there with it. I'm really happy with it so far. But its only my second song. Its the start of march now and I really have waisted time tbh. 1 thing I struggled with my first song is the bridge section I guess. I used it twice after the first chorus and second. I didnt really have an idea of how to structure a song. I just couldnt get a second melody that fit the rest of the song. Its on my youtube if you want to listen to it. I'm not a great explainer lmao. Its called "Lua station". But I'm having the same issue with my second song. I guess I really have to loosen up and slap spaghetti at the wall :D But yeah thanks for this vid. Going to save it and rewatch it a few times because its really helpfull.
This video is super helpful, thank you!!! I tend to write melodies and lyrics while driving without any instruments then have trouble matching chords and instruments to it later. Do you have any advise for that? I appreciate all of your videos and help!
My advice would be to figure out which key you're singing in. I do the same thing all the time. And I just have to play my voice memo while playing guitar or piano, and figure out what key I was singing in. Then figure out a tempo that works for the song, and re-record everything in Ableton to the click. Hope that helps!
@@CompleteProducer Thank you very much! Its beensuper discouraging when I know I can make a good song in the car and then I put it in abelton and it sounds like a 6 year old trying to play every instrument but your videos are helpful, I just have to learn it for myself! Do you happen to know of any good plug ins to remove mouth noises (especially ones in the middle of words)? Ive tried EQing them out which really doesnt work, and very rarely i can zoom in and find them/delete them but that usually causes problems too. Its so hard to unhear a mouth noise once I hear it! :/ Do you know of anything for that other than just not making the noise in the first place which makes me sing wierd?
This might be a bit of a dumb question but, how do you decide/come up with how to actually present or play the chords? Like in this case you play them on the guitar so, instead of playing the chord with all notes at once, you're strumming them individually and making it easy to continue listening to, but when I produce in ableton I get really excited when I make chords that evoke the emotional space I'm going for, but then immediately get discouraged and bored because they're just being played all notes at once repetitively. Is there a name for this kind of variation to make chords interesting that i can look into and study more, or am I just stuck in my own head?
Hey that's a great question! In Ableton under MIDI Effects on the left there's a plugin called Arpeggiator. If you drag that to the beginning of your MIDI channel that's playing your chords, it'll turn it into some really cool patterns and you can play around with the parameters! For guitar playing I usually just use plucking and strumming for dynamics. Plucking for quieter songs or quieter parts, and strumming for more energy.
Best video of song writing ever! really helped me as i have rewatched this video multiple times🥹 Would you ever make a video about relationship between chord progression used in different parts of a song (pre verse, verse, chorus..) it would be very helpful as now i am simply using four chords for the entire song😔
The line “Was I on purpose or a surprise?” literally brought me to tears. Wow, it’s in your blood man.
Dont watch a 90's Disney movie
I love how you both tell and SHOW the thing you're teaching.
Dude. What a vocal performance. That was outstanding

You made song writing not so hard I can understand it's a little bit better my question is who can I pick song title when I have two titles in mind
make me understand about bar BPM and what is 4/4 etc....cant understand and can't make melody drums due to that
i did not understand what TAP (button) is for.....i watched a lot of videos and i didn’t get it
I have song now
Well that was easy
You are amazing Ethan! Keep it up man.
