When you buy a secondhand car, it has part worn tyres. There's no problem if you use a reputable dealer. I've been buying part worns from a company in our town for twenty years. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart from new tyres. Just be vigilant.
These two trading standards officers, don't know much about tyres, so they shouldn't be doing this job. The rim protector damage at 12:32 is only cosmetic, and does not make the tyre unsafe unless the sidewall cords are exposed. Steve, the tyre expert, is the only person who knows what he is doing in this video.
@MachineGunIt lol assuming ur being serious here then women want to drive but don't want to learn how to maintain their car ! double standards are ok when its a woman still eh
Whenever you buy a car you are buying 4 PART WORN TYRES! Each day people buy used cars. Are we all risking our lives by doing so?? Also consider that every time you sit in your car you are driving at least partly worn tyres. Should we all stop driving? How about this fact - when you buy part worn tyres you can personally inspect them inside and out and also have it looked over by a professional. Such assurances are totally absent when you buy a car privately or second hand. Even main dealerships do not remove each tyre and inspect it on their second hand cars. Thus logically we are all using part worn tyres equally. But those who have purchased part worn tyres know theirs have been checked over by a professional. I buy brand new online though ;-) it's worth it if you plan on driving the tyre to the end of its life. Extra tread means extra life for a tyre
The article doesn't say that it's only tyres from wrecks we're talking about. I think that 99% of people who watch this show will believe that it's about part worn tyres. There aren't enough wrecks to go around to give every car a set of Tyres by a very long shot
That's a fair point, but I would never CHOOSE to fit them. Yeah if the car comes with them I will use them. The only exception is if I buy a car and it's got a different tyre on every corner they get changed to 4 matching pretty sharpish.
I only buy cheap part worn tyres and they are just fine. Remember we don't have the autobahn in UK. The motorway speed is around 40mph these days. Watch nails on the road.
Best advice. Learn to protect your current tyres. Drive at constant speeds, use correct gear changes, reduce heavy braking, concentrate more on how you drive. These tips will give you thousands more miles with your tyres. Simples.
Consumers are so naive, they're so weary of part worn tyres but happily: -buy budget tyres which have a very poor performance -mis match tyres (different brands, mix worn/new tyres, tyre sizes) which is very obviously dangerous but always ignored -fail to get the correct size of tyre (width, aspect ratio, speed rating, load index)
The idea that you must have all the same tyres is a complete fallacy under normal driving conditions used by companies to get people to buy more than one tyre, apart from when you mix and match winter and standard tyres.
@@patwilliam543 So you are one of those scumbags who has a different tyre on each wheel. You shouldn't be driving. The rear tyres should match each other as should the fronts. On an AWD or 4WD vehicle all tyres must be exactly the same.
"I was devastated" Yeah sure, you knew what you were doing when you went to some dodgy garage to get some £10 part worn tires instead of paying £50 a corner for new ones
I remember going for part worns frequently & I always used one garage as the tyres looked pretty much as new (some even still had the little pips on them) but twice they had screwed me over. One had a puncture & another was made of a strange compound which give no grip in any road condition. Even on a bright sunny day on an abrasive road (in my car which i know the limits of) I was still finding the car under steering when I turned against that tyre. I now use a more common size of tyre on my car (originally 135/80/R13 & now 155/70/R13) so new tyres cost pretty much the same as the part worns I used to buy
my dad was an advanced driving instructor, always said..dont use part worn or remolds,,and dont hang stuff from your mirror you are not in your living room, all decorations do that, and keep your attention from outside,,,its now my 30th year with a clean driving licence :-)
70 mph at night on the M4 and felt like i hit a small stone. car starts to veer left,as i compensate it just goes..... it was a front tyre blowing out. after 4 x 360 and a 180 degree spins i end up on the hard shoulder facing the wrong way, with brown trousers. 4 brand new £178 each tyres fitted 2 days earlier. the dangers are not just with part worns.
If they are being passed off as a genuine thing (white stamped part-worn tyres) and are not genuine they are fake. You cannot argue with a definition unless you are an idiot.
Half the price of new tyres and no one will have to go for part worn .... if the safety of road users is a priority then stop the industry and government ripping every driver off
As soon as new tires gets used they are classed as part worn tires... Correct me if am wrong. Every driver is responsible for its own car. You supposed to do safety checks on your vehicle everytime you use it.
I’ve bought second hand tyres all my life, never had a single problem. But you should always quickly check the tyre thread and condition before purchase for peace of mind.
Im an ex tyre fitter, done em all, car ,commercial, agricultural, plant, blah blah, I use pre owned tyres too, I do a visual on tyre before it's fitted, and afterwards, check for cuts, bulges ,etc. Also you can buy a brand new tyre, drive over glass, or bash a kerb ,and ruin your tyre in minutes. New or second hand, the road doesn't discriminate. And yes it's true, sometimes care are scrapped after new tyres were fitted, MOT failures, or fleet cars, where the driver simply wants brand new tyres fitted, seen it many times in the trade. A new tyre has around 8 millimetres of tread, I've seen em changed with 5-6 mm remaining, so they're good value second hand.
I buy part worn tires, difference is i inspect every one i buy. Thread wear, date stamp, bulges, holes, nails but even more importantly cracks, they didn't even mention cracks in the rubber when the rubber vulcanizes and the thread can come right off
What always gets me are there are many people who own a car but can't afford to run it. My philosophy is if you can't afford to run a car, then you shouldn't have one.
There's a reason people dispose of them part worn. I'd also change the regs on tread depth from 1.6mm to 2mm. Minimum industry and legislative standards for tyres are far too low in this country. There are many tyres on the market which should NEVER be offered for sale. This would have the effect of bringing down the price of decent upper-mid segment and premium segment tyres. Thus everyone will be safer. And everyone gets to enjoy driving a car which handles properly.
I nevery understood why people would pay for expensive huge aloy wheels and then buy second hand liw profile old tyre. I drive on 13' steel wheels and high profiles. Tyre is cheap.
Some people don't realise that once you increase your wheel size you increase the weight (also having the weight further from the hub worsens things). Not only bad for fuel consumption but also handling. Ultra low profile tyres have a smaller footprint even if they are wider than the originals because they don't squash out like tyres with decent side wall. No squash means they sit higher increasing the cars centre of gravity. Lots to think of if you want to do it right, the biggest wheel and lowest profile tyre will simply slow you down, burn more fuel, give an uncomfortable jittery ride and reduce handling ability... But when your 16 none of that matters.
So, I live in east anglia, England. Nowhere does part worn tyres fitted for £10, I ALWAYS use Kirkley run service station, Lowestoft for tyres. Fantastic prices, good service, only downside is you may have to wait for a while, as no booking service available, just turn up & see how busy they are. As they are so good they are popular. My car has 225/45/18 & I got a quote for part worn locally, and it was a joke. Could get half decent budget new for £15 more.... YOUR TYRES ARE THE ONLY THING BETWEEN YOU AND THE ROAD, so skimp on car wash, skimp on dash shine... use furniture polish, skimp on coffee, etc but not your tyres....
the government arent bothered about safety, which is why you only get an on the spot fine and no points for no mot, yet for no insurance you get your car confiscated and points on your licence, obviously its money thats important, not peoples lives
"If a tyre does not meet these safety standards, its a fake" Matt Allwright in this video. No its NOT a fake, ITS A DEFECTIVE TYRE. It does not matter that the tyre is used, it is not a fake, but it should come up to the legal standard for tyres being used on the Public Highway. Unfortunately, part worn tyres are at the bottom of the tyre trade, and the Part Worn industry attracts the type who think they can make money quickly, as its "just a tyre" The problem is, it still has to conform to regulations which these sellers disregard. There is no fake tyre just illegal ones.
every tyre on the road is a part worn tyre from the minute it has been fitted abd run on the road. Does that mean we all have unsafe tyres on our cars. Most part worn tyre dealers sell safe tyres which have been tested and are fit for selling and use on the roads.
Look at it this way Cat b cars unsafe to be reused on road have there tyres removed and sold in garages. Big difference between owning a new car and driving 5 miles in it thus making your tyre part worn .. Or having a head on Collison and rolling car because it was stolen and ragged at 100mph in Brum. Don't think part worns come of unsafe cars. And don't think they check them. Fuck do they..
denis mc keague So? There can be any number of reasons why someone has chopped in their tyres. Perhaps the car was scrapped, or they didn't like the ride or noise of their current tyres or maybe they just decided to change them all for convenience. Part worn tyres are not necessarily dangerous and certainly not fake.
I have had part worn Tyres fitted many times in the past when struggling to be fair I had no problems at all.the guy made sure they were excellent condition and I drove many miles on them..trick is check them yourself with your own eyes before fitted
Part worn tyres have been inspected inside and out before you use them. A second hand car has part worn tyres all around which have not been inspected when you buy it. Part worn is safer than a second hand car
Speak for yourself I would check the tyres of any car I'm looking to buy and if it had non premium tyres they'd be in the shop getting proper ones the following week.
@@gravemind6536 no one looks inside their tyres. No one removes the tyres from the rim and inspects them on the inside. Besides, every tyre is part worn after the first drive, yet no one panics. The myth that part worns are dangerous simply isnt true

Make sure you dont have any plaster like repairs on side walls or before he/she fits it look at the inside of the tyre... make sure there are no codes showing or rubber peices... also look for where the repairs have taken place. If its in the middle or too much on the side. Under inflated tyres is not the fault of the dealer. a)What if the tyre was damaged by the current driver who just carried on? b)How many people know what to look for on their own tyres? c)How many drivers habitually mount and scrape kerbs with impunity? sportshatch true, but I bought my tyres brand new with a v good brand on them. I know they haven’t been accident damaged and I know the history of them.

@@Dwainpipe21 to be fair some wipers on new cars are like solving a Rubik's cube 😂 but in all seriousness I work in a garage and see all kinds of people that don't know the basics .
I would ask Boris Johnson and his gang to grow a pair.Put a total ban on the sale of all used tyres in the UK immediately!!
Why?
I would sooner have a worn out Pirrelli than a brand new DingBangWho from China.

They sell a Chinese brand called linglong in Australia, I shit you not.
Super_Slav got them here in England too mate
Fully agreed. If you buy used tires, inspect them first. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see cracks, holes, bulges, age tag, etc.... im running used bridgestones
Last set of asian tyres i got lasted 50,000km. Never got a puncher and were perfect.
Part worn tires are too good that they actually have to let air out of them to simulate a SLOW PUNCTURE 🤣🤣.
Sounds like something a dodgy tyre dealer would say
the miscellaneous machine channel 🖕🖕🤣🤣
👍 exactly!
By the rim protector you mean bead and by sidewall cords you mean radial plies looks like you don't know what you're talking about either

@MachineGunIt lol assuming ur being serious here then women want to drive but don't want to learn how to maintain their car ! double standards are ok when its a woman still eh
The 1950s just called, they want your opinion back.
Foolish woman couldn't see the big hole in the tyre.
It would be really hard, if not impossible to see it if the tire was attached to the car and she was paying attention to her children
Marcus T Good point..... but I guess part worn tyres that have been removed from a car have probably been removed for a reason....
The article doesn't say that it's only tyres from wrecks we're talking about. I think that 99% of people who watch this show will believe that it's about part worn tyres. There aren't enough wrecks to go around to give every car a set of Tyres by a very long shot
Most part worns are imported from Europe, mainly Germany where they have to change their tires seasonally by law.
fake britain is largely propaganda
That's a fair point, but I would never CHOOSE to fit them. Yeah if the car comes with them I will use them. The only exception is if I buy a car and it's got a different tyre on every corner they get changed to 4 matching pretty sharpish.
Nothing wrong with part worn tyres. All used cars have secondhand/part worn tyres.Upshot is look after your tyres, check pressures regularly.
Simples.

4 new tyres fitted last month and part worn now what should I do are they safe?
Consumers are so naive, they're so weary of part worn tyres but happily:
-buy budget tyres which have a very poor performance
-mis match tyres (different brands, mix worn/new tyres, tyre sizes) which is very obviously dangerous but always ignored
-fail to get the correct size of tyre (width, aspect ratio, speed rating, load index)
The idea that you must have all the same tyres is a complete fallacy under normal driving conditions used by companies to get people to buy more than one tyre, apart from when you mix and match winter and standard tyres.
@@patwilliam543 Imo if you have FWD the front 2 should be the same and if you have RWD the back 2 should be the same
@@MrRohanThomas if you're driving aggressively or a performance car yes, but for everyday town driving 98% of people wont notice any issues
Patrick Dixon so basically 4 performance tyres for motorway driving and actually being able to around corners
@@patwilliam543 So you are one of those scumbags who has a different tyre on each wheel. You shouldn't be driving. The rear tyres should match each other as should the fronts. On an AWD or 4WD vehicle all tyres must be exactly the same.
"I was devastated"
Yeah sure, you knew what you were doing when you went to some dodgy garage to get some £10 part worn tires instead of paying £50 a corner for new ones
“complete spinout” while turning the car
I remember going for part worns frequently & I always used one garage as the tyres looked pretty much as new (some even still had the little pips on them) but twice they had screwed me over. One had a puncture & another was made of a strange compound which give no grip in any road condition. Even on a bright sunny day on an abrasive road (in my car which i know the limits of) I was still finding the car under steering when I turned against that tyre. I now use a more common size of tyre on my car (originally 135/80/R13 & now 155/70/R13) so new tyres cost pretty much the same as the part worns I used to buy

the dangers are not just with part worns.
Do you know what fake means? These are not fake tyres, they are illegal/unsafe.
If they are being passed off as a genuine thing (white stamped part-worn tyres) and are not genuine they are fake. You cannot argue with a definition unless you are an idiot.
It's a Fake Britain video. Everything here must be fake ;)
Thread wear, date stamp, bulges, holes, nails but even more importantly cracks, they didn't even mention cracks in the rubber when the rubber vulcanizes and the thread can come right off
Thread? :D The problem is that you are in a very tiny minority who actually checks them. Most people don't tyres at all. Premium, budget whatever.
Konrad C how can you check for bulges? In my experience, most don’t show up until inflated. Would love to know though.
What always gets me are there are many people who own a car but can't afford to run it. My philosophy is if you can't afford to run a car, then you shouldn't have one.
i did not see a single "FAKE Tire"
Exactly, no such thing as a fake tyre. This program is fake though, full of mis informed shit..
Really, you want to have this shit on your car ?!
cause they call it part worn when it's not, its a fake part worn tire.
they are simply used tires that are unfit for the road.
Ben D it cal have a fake tred in too where they glue extra rubber
Just make sure tyre got 'worn' stamps. That makes me much confident... genius.
Part worn tyres are perfectly fine for tractors and farm trailers
Yes cause farmers have eyes and common sense 👌👌👌👌
They can't blame tyre suppliers for accidents caused by under inflated tyres, it's the drivers responsibility to check the tyre pressure
Over £100 per new tyre for a Zafira? Yeah right.
Ikr.
Probably has 15 inch wheels, so no more than £60 a tyre on black circles
There's a reason people dispose of them part worn. I'd also change the regs on tread depth from 1.6mm to 2mm. Minimum industry and legislative standards for tyres are far too low in this country. There are many tyres on the market which should NEVER be offered for sale. This would have the effect of bringing down the price of decent upper-mid segment and premium segment tyres. Thus everyone will be safer. And everyone gets to enjoy driving a car which handles properly.
paulanderson79 I
Of course the part worn have less grip in the wet, they have less tread.
I bought 2 Goodyear ultra grips for £60. Not lost any pressure in a month but I'm scared mumma!
I nevery understood why people would pay for expensive huge aloy wheels and then buy second hand liw profile old tyre.
I drive on 13' steel wheels and high profiles. Tyre is cheap.
+ you get more comfortable ride because of the higher sidewall of the tire
And as there would be a compensation claim in the air, we have obligatory tear shedding at 4:51 to make things look more convincing.
Her eyebrows looks like bird wings 😂
My 4 year boy draws them perfectly
Funny how she can afford 4 kids at her age but not tyres on the car she transports them in, kids are not cheap !
Programs for the hard of thinking
Hi I think this needs to be shown on TV again, this is the first time I've seen this.
the government arent bothered about safety, which is why you only get an on the spot fine and no points for no mot, yet for no insurance you get your car confiscated and points on your licence, obviously its money thats important, not peoples lives
If it was up to the manufacturers ( sponsors of this program) we would have to fit new tires every 6 months.
I do anyway mine are always worn out within six months
Well someone took them off there car for a reason
Look at it this way
Cat b cars unsafe to be reused on road have there tyres removed and sold in garages.
Big difference between owning a new car and driving 5 miles in it thus making your tyre part worn ..
Or having a head on Collison and rolling car because it was stolen and ragged at 100mph in Brum.
Don't think part worns come of unsafe cars. And don't think they check them. Fuck do they..
denis mc keague
So? There can be any number of reasons why someone has chopped in their tyres. Perhaps the car was scrapped, or they didn't like the ride or noise of their current tyres or maybe they just decided to change them all for convenience. Part worn tyres are not necessarily dangerous and certainly not fake.
She could even killed this program, with the speed and the vehicle she is driving.
Did anyone else catch when he said "when under pressure conditions" the guy doesn't know wtf he's on about 3:32
Some of the cheapest new tyre's on the market are absolute death traps, I'd rather have a top make part worn properly checked.

When I lived in England, forty years ago, I bought Re-Mould tyres one at a time. Never heard of part worn tyres.
Simple answer - lower the price of new tyres and ban all re-treads and part worns from sale in the UK.
I think Steve is the stig, blasting it around that track
Check the part worn tyres yourself before you purchase it... always look at the side wall and the inner bit of the tyre which is going sit on the rim. Make sure you dont have any plaster like repairs on side walls or before he/she fits it look at the inside of the tyre... make sure there are no codes showing or rubber peices... also look for where the repairs have taken place. If its in the middle or too much on the side. Also check the age of the tyre and look for cracks... one when they balance it keep a eye on your tyre and make sure its even when its spinning... even look at your rim incase that could be damaged from potholes... also one last thing look for bulges or cuts on side walls. Thanks from a ex tyre fitter of 8 years
if all the tyres need replacing then get new but if you get one that is punctured and cant be repaired then just get a part worn one. There are plenty of part worn tyre places that can do cheap and decent tyres that will better match the other tyres.
There's a well known saying - anything that makes contact between you and the ground - don't cheap out on.
This is so over-reacted imo
6:45 yes great test guys. Let’s drive a Volvo on a wet race track, turning at speed. We aren’t going to see any skidding are we 😂 Even with brand new tyres you would be all over the place
How many people refuse to buy a second-hand car, simply because it has second-hand tyres ? And how many people who bought a second-hand car, with it's second-hand tyres, swear that they'd never buy part-worn tyres?
The beads can leak on a new tyre(fault or dirt on rim)... so the leaky part warn test is inconclusive. I used to fit Part warn Tyres nearly 15 years ago, and if there was a Bulge in it i wouldnt put it on the car..... But i do know some one who used to...

Fine for non motorway driving. You get what you pay for.
Some tires made in china are made at the same factory as a brand name with exact spec's without the fancy name. Only a trusted tire shop can attest to this this so be careful and do your home work. Buying used tires is just too risky.
you have a fucking Mercedes C class and you've have bought used tires? What kinda of wanna be are you?
safety is dependent on how fast or slow you drive.and safety check very time. you get out home or work. and don't buy cheap tires lol

Dramatic journalistic crap, i have been buying part worn tyres for over 20 years no problem the best form of recycling. Just check no splits or holes on sidewalls, cracks perishing of tread and any repairs close to shoulders on tyres otherwise good to go. Tread depth on new tyres is 8mm so anything above 5mm good.Had a set of good years fitted on my CRV for £80 two years ago opposed to £400 new, no issues!!
So basically when you have driven your brand new tyres for 10 to 20000 miles they are dangerous, yes, I think not.
The average driver won't be driving 80mph around a race track, come on 😂 joke
No the average driver will be doing 120 mph round the racetraCK !!!
My name is Caitlin and the guy who got the tyre (Andy Faulkner) is my uncle Andy! Recently him and his wife had a babyyyy
Under inflated tyres is not the fault of the dealer.
a)What if the tyre was damaged by the current driver who just carried on?
b)How many people know what to look for on their own tyres?
c)How many drivers habitually mount and scrape kerbs with impunity?
It's about time people took responsibility for their own safety!
"Part worn" tyres should be scrapped and made illiegal to sell!!!

Repaired tyres are fine provided the repair is done according to legislation.
I wonder how many of the 1200 motorists injured are as a result of the part worn tyres they purchased, probably very few most of them just haven't been checking their tyres. Unbelievable that people pay £10 for a tyre to be fitted and are surprised that its not as good as a brand new one.
Part worn tyres are removed by the previous owner , because of some saftey issue with them , so i believe tyre fitting centres and outlets should be compelled by the sale of Goods commission , to make them not reusable by punching some sort of hole or mark on them and have them properly recycled , otherwise some innocent person is being sent to their grave too soon in life
