The reason tyres fail is because the stupid bint driving the car has never checked the pressure, and didn't notice that it was nearly flat on the kerb. The reason that these tyres then go on to cause a problem is that these girls then drive like it's a rally, but cant deal with the skid. Every car and every other vehicle is driving on part worn tyre, as soon as you leave the garage after your new tyres have been fitted they start to wear and are therefore part worn. The problem is not the "part worn" aspect its the faulty bit, ie they're defective.
I find it hilarious how serious they make this sound, when in Asia and South America there's millions of cars/buses/trucks with Chinese tyres made of soft plastic, patched up 20 times with the strands showing.

Whenever you buy a car you are buying 4 PART WORN TYRES! Each day people buy used cars. Are we all risking our lives by doing so?? Also consider that every time you sit in your car you are driving at least partly worn tyres. Should we all stop driving? How about this fact - when you buy part worn tyres you can personally inspect them inside and out and also have it looked over by a professional. Such assurances are totally absent when you buy a car privately or second hand. Even main dealerships do not remove each tyre and inspect it on their second hand cars. Thus logically we are all using part worn tyres equally. But those who have purchased part worn tyres know theirs have been checked over by a professional. I buy brand new online though ;-) it's worth it if you plan on driving the tyre to the end of its life. Extra tread means extra life for a tyre
The article doesn't say that it's only tyres from wrecks we're talking about. I think that 99% of people who watch this show will believe that it's about part worn tyres. There aren't enough wrecks to go around to give every car a set of Tyres by a very long shot
That's a fair point, but I would never CHOOSE to fit them. Yeah if the car comes with them I will use them. The only exception is if I buy a car and it's got a different tyre on every corner they get changed to 4 matching pretty sharpish.
Possibly if you buy right at the top end of the premium market and through somewhere like Kwikfit. My car wears 225/45 R18 (95(Y) and I can get Michelin / Dunlop / Conti etc for under £150 each.
I remember going for part worns frequently & I always used one garage as the tyres looked pretty much as new (some even still had the little pips on them) but twice they had screwed me over. One had a puncture & another was made of a strange compound which give no grip in any road condition. Even on a bright sunny day on an abrasive road (in my car which i know the limits of) I was still finding the car under steering when I turned against that tyre. I now use a more common size of tyre on my car (originally 135/80/R13 & now 155/70/R13) so new tyres cost pretty much the same as the part worns I used to buy
Consumers are so naive, they're so weary of part worn tyres but happily: -buy budget tyres which have a very poor performance -mis match tyres (different brands, mix worn/new tyres, tyre sizes) which is very obviously dangerous but always ignored -fail to get the correct size of tyre (width, aspect ratio, speed rating, load index)
The idea that you must have all the same tyres is a complete fallacy under normal driving conditions used by companies to get people to buy more than one tyre, apart from when you mix and match winter and standard tyres.
@@patwilliam543 So you are one of those scumbags who has a different tyre on each wheel. You shouldn't be driving. The rear tyres should match each other as should the fronts. On an AWD or 4WD vehicle all tyres must be exactly the same.

@MachineGunIt lol assuming ur being serious here then women want to drive but don't want to learn how to maintain their car ! double standards are ok when its a woman still eh
This is a very misleading article... There are good some very good part worn tyres out there that there is no problems with and these tyres are better then cheap new tyres. This lady in this article also needs to bare some of the blame as see as the driver of here car needs to inspect her tyres. and remember that every time you buy a second hand car you are buying part worn tyres..
Tyres on a car are of extreme importance, especially, in a country like the UK, where weather is so unpredictable. However, part worn undamaged tyres are a good buy as long as they support ample tread and have not been repaired, especially, their sides. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous people who flog dangerous tyres. Most tyres vendors are honest and professionals. They do provide free tyre checks.
To be honest this is mostly a dig at part worn tyres to make people buy brand new for like £120 a tyre! my local garage sells part worn tyres and i have always had part worn as i refuse to pay ridiculous prices, take Halfords for example for 4 new tyres all season would cost you over £160 a tyre! part worn not even £60 at my local garage! There is part worn tyres that are perfectly fine then there is part worn tyres that are illegal and are dangerous but this episode just paints overall part worn tyres as bad, always use a friend or a local garage you know about who would never sell you dangerous tyres, if you just drive to a random cheap garage you've never been to before and just put all your faith in their word then thats on you! they want money they dont care if your tyre explodes! Part worn tyres will always be a popular choice due to cost and i will continue to use part worn that are just as good anyway! just nonsense about less grip and handling! so when a brand new tyre wears down do they become illegal and unsafe? that test they did was just a guy doing sharp turns on a water soaking track, proved nothing! why didn't they show us the difference with him doing the same test with 4 brand new tyres? every car being turned like that will lose abit of traction and start to drift...for a part worn tyre to be legal it has to have plenty of tread left and any car with above minimum tread will grip the road the same as any other tyre, also what tyres did they use on the track? probably summer...always get all season! even if it means putting up with a little more road noise.
I buy part worn tires, difference is i inspect every one i buy. Thread wear, date stamp, bulges, holes, nails but even more importantly cracks, they didn't even mention cracks in the rubber when the rubber vulcanizes and the thread can come right off
If they are being passed off as a genuine thing (white stamped part-worn tyres) and are not genuine they are fake. You cannot argue with a definition unless you are an idiot.
i have a little fact here people might not know but the size tyre your car comes with isn't always the best size for your car and some times is way more expensive than the next size up or down. car manufacturers put odd sizes on cars because they have deals with tyre brands and want you to buy the specific tyre. for example there is a size 275/65/17, 265/65/17 and 265/70r17, all these sizes are so similar that the average person could not tell the difference but they are all different prices. it is like this with every type and size of tyre
There's a reason people dispose of them part worn. I'd also change the regs on tread depth from 1.6mm to 2mm. Minimum industry and legislative standards for tyres are far too low in this country. There are many tyres on the market which should NEVER be offered for sale. This would have the effect of bringing down the price of decent upper-mid segment and premium segment tyres. Thus everyone will be safer. And everyone gets to enjoy driving a car which handles properly.
Nothing wrong with part worns. Sometimes theyre actually better. You can buy a premium part worn like Bridgestone or Michelin for less than the price of a chinese Wanly or Triangle for instance which will be totally crap in the wet and wear out much quicker than the premium make part worn..
Most chinese tyres are good. Good tread, & made out of the same compounds & rubber. Making tyres isn't rocket science & is very well known throughout the industry. China is very good at what they do. When it comes to making tyres no joe blogs can make one. It takes a considerable amount of machinery to make a tyre. & the chinese can make them well.
The Chinese can make good products. What the Chinese are good at are giving the west what it wants and the majority of people just want cheap crap. The Chinese love it because there is more mark up in crap then quality, we keep demanding it and so the cycle goes on.
bridgestone has 3 factories in china, saying a whole country is shit based on a few rubbish brands is utter hogwash, don't be racist and lets all agree that premium tyres are better than bargain cheap tyres.
I use a local tyre place. Got 2 Pirelli tyres part worn for the taxi rear £25 each. Still on the car 30k miles later. Been through 4 sets on the front, various kinds and they’ve been spot on.
every tyre on the road is a part worn tyre from the minute it has been fitted abd run on the road. Does that mean we all have unsafe tyres on our cars. Most part worn tyre dealers sell safe tyres which have been tested and are fit for selling and use on the roads.
Look at it this way Cat b cars unsafe to be reused on road have there tyres removed and sold in garages. Big difference between owning a new car and driving 5 miles in it thus making your tyre part worn .. Or having a head on Collison and rolling car because it was stolen and ragged at 100mph in Brum. Don't think part worns come of unsafe cars. And don't think they check them. Fuck do they..
denis mc keague So? There can be any number of reasons why someone has chopped in their tyres. Perhaps the car was scrapped, or they didn't like the ride or noise of their current tyres or maybe they just decided to change them all for convenience. Part worn tyres are not necessarily dangerous and certainly not fake.
Okay, I'm impressed with the quality of the tire repair they mentioned was done by a non-licensed repair shop. I've done worse and have taken my car to the maximum speed on the Autobahn, and nothing happened. How much of this all is fear-mongery ? There are tires that come from the factory with known weaknesses that can explode under normal driving conditions, or brand-name tires that are sold even though they're well over 10 years old. But that is all legal, right?
The beads can leak on a new tyre(fault or dirt on rim)... so the leaky part warn test is inconclusive. I used to fit Part warn Tyres nearly 15 years ago, and if there was a Bulge in it i wouldnt put it on the car..... But i do know some one who used to...
I nevery understood why people would pay for expensive huge aloy wheels and then buy second hand liw profile old tyre. I drive on 13' steel wheels and high profiles. Tyre is cheap.
Some people don't realise that once you increase your wheel size you increase the weight (also having the weight further from the hub worsens things). Not only bad for fuel consumption but also handling. Ultra low profile tyres have a smaller footprint even if they are wider than the originals because they don't squash out like tyres with decent side wall. No squash means they sit higher increasing the cars centre of gravity. Lots to think of if you want to do it right, the biggest wheel and lowest profile tyre will simply slow you down, burn more fuel, give an uncomfortable jittery ride and reduce handling ability... But when your 16 none of that matters.
Big question is, where did those tyres comes from and eventually, ends up in the market?? If these tyres were imported by the adjacent countries through shipping and various mode of transportations. Then ,why didn't the custom 👮 officer seized after processing the clearance.
Always check used tyres. After all it's the tyre that. Touches the ground. For me new tyres always over used. Yes they cost more but you are less likely to deal with these problems.
the government arent bothered about safety, which is why you only get an on the spot fine and no points for no mot, yet for no insurance you get your car confiscated and points on your licence, obviously its money thats important, not peoples lives
2:35 The indentation in one tyre at the corner of the side and the base is reparable, however, punctured / cut on the side wall of a tyre can be dangerous at high speed. What is high speed? I can start at anything over 60 mph. Yes, the pressure at that speed can and does exert heated air and may burst. All tyres have weight and speed ratings. Fake tyres are not better or worse that ordinary normal tyres. Tyres are affected by the weather, road condition and vehicle operator's training and vigilance. There is a big corruption in tyre industry at large. Profit margins have skyrocketed and everyone is on the take. Majority of Tyres sold in Europe and America are not manufactured locally. All big names of Tyre companies are manufacturing their Tyres in low labour cost countries under their set standards and supervision.
So much bullshit people are saying on these coments. I work in a tyre garage, and see several times a week part worn tyres that are deadly. normaly picked up because the car comes in with bad handling so they ask for tracking to be checked. during checks these tyres have been inflated over double the correct pressure, unbalanced and too often bad repairs. What they mean by fake, is untested untrustworthy tyres stamped as checked/safe. Too many people care more about money then the safty of others.
Most drivers are hideously ignorant when it comes to tyres. They have no idea about the value of tyres and full four wheel alignment. I only premium segment tyres now. Upper-mids are perfectly good to drive on but the tread wear is generally faster than a top end tyre.
Half the price of new tyres and no one will have to go for part worn .... if the safety of road users is a priority then stop the industry and government ripping every driver off
if all the tyres need replacing then get new but if you get one that is punctured and cant be repaired then just get a part worn one. There are plenty of part worn tyre places that can do cheap and decent tyres that will better match the other tyres.
I’ve bought second hand tyres all my life, never had a single problem. But you should always quickly check the tyre thread and condition before purchase for peace of mind.
Im an ex tyre fitter, done em all, car ,commercial, agricultural, plant, blah blah, I use pre owned tyres too, I do a visual on tyre before it's fitted, and afterwards, check for cuts, bulges ,etc. Also you can buy a brand new tyre, drive over glass, or bash a kerb ,and ruin your tyre in minutes. New or second hand, the road doesn't discriminate. And yes it's true, sometimes care are scrapped after new tyres were fitted, MOT failures, or fleet cars, where the driver simply wants brand new tyres fitted, seen it many times in the trade. A new tyre has around 8 millimetres of tread, I've seen em changed with 5-6 mm remaining, so they're good value second hand.

The problem is not so much the fact that these tyres are part worn, but the fact that the some of the people selling them are selling tyres with potentially dangerous faults.
Properly checked part worn tyres should be fine to use. Providing the above is adhered to.
I'm really sure the tyre might explode when I inflate it, i'll put it in this cage here and stay less then a meter away with no ear protection. Yep, i'm very concerned.
Those cages save lives, your ears stop ringing after a few days.
I would ask Boris Johnson and his gang to grow a pair.Put a total ban on the sale of all used tyres in the UK immediately!!
Why?
I go round a soaked skid pan flat out to test tires grip too
Tyres are supposed to disperse water and get grip from the road

well just so you know, partworn places are idiots. they mix winter/summer/directional on the same car. it would handle like a dog.
The reason tyres fail is because the stupid bint driving the car has never checked the pressure, and didn't notice that it was nearly flat on the kerb.
The reason that these tyres then go on to cause a problem is that these girls then drive like it's a rally, but cant deal with the skid. If you are a woman who checks your tyre pressure regularly please ignore this.

People should be required to have much more knowledge about vehicles before driving. If you can't determine the condition of a tyre you shouldn't be driving. It's like a tradesman not knowing what different tools are and just using what they're given.
The amount of people ( including men) that can't do basic tasks such as filling the windscreen washer bottle , checking the oil and coolant levels or inflating tyres is ridiculous . As for changing a wiper blade they might as well have a go at brain surgery!.

When you buy a secondhand car, it has part worn tyres. There's no problem if you use a reputable dealer. I've been buying part worns from a company in our town for twenty years. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart from new tyres. Just be vigilant.
The UK government hasn't charged "road" tax in decades. Come on BBC! Get it right!!!

"I was devastated"
Yeah sure, you knew what you were doing when you went to some dodgy garage to get some £10 part worn tires instead of paying £50 a corner for new ones

Marcus T Good point..... but I guess part worn tyres that have been removed from a car have probably been removed for a reason....
The article doesn't say that it's only tyres from wrecks we're talking about. I think that 99% of people who watch this show will believe that it's about part worn tyres. There aren't enough wrecks to go around to give every car a set of Tyres by a very long shot
Most part worns are imported from Europe, mainly Germany where they have to change their tires seasonally by law.

Consumers are so naive, they're so weary of part worn tyres but happily:
-buy budget tyres which have a very poor performance
-mis match tyres (different brands, mix worn/new tyres, tyre sizes) which is very obviously dangerous but always ignored
-fail to get the correct size of tyre (width, aspect ratio, speed rating, load index)
The idea that you must have all the same tyres is a complete fallacy under normal driving conditions used by companies to get people to buy more than one tyre, apart from when you mix and match winter and standard tyres.

99% of cars on the road are using part-worn tyres. I've bought many part-worns with no issue.
Any car tyres would slide going round a wet track at high speeds 🤣🤣

Thread wear, date stamp, bulges, holes, nails but even more importantly cracks, they didn't even mention cracks in the rubber when the rubber vulcanizes and the thread can come right off
Thread? :D The problem is that you are in a very tiny minority who actually checks them. Most people don't tyres at all. Premium, budget whatever.
Konrad C how can you check for bulges? In my experience, most don’t show up until inflated. Would love to know though.
There's a well known saying - anything that makes contact between you and the ground - don't cheap out on.
Do you know what fake means? These are not fake tyres, they are illegal/unsafe.
If they are being passed off as a genuine thing (white stamped part-worn tyres) and are not genuine they are fake. You cannot argue with a definition unless you are an idiot.
It's a Fake Britain video. Everything here must be fake ;)
i have a little fact here people might not know but the size tyre your car comes with isn't always the best size for your car and some times is way more expensive than the next size up or down. car manufacturers put odd sizes on cars because they have deals with tyre brands and want you to buy the specific tyre. for example there is a size 275/65/17, 265/65/17 and 265/70r17, all these sizes are so similar that the average person could not tell the difference but they are all different prices. it is like this with every type and size of tyre
Her eyebrows looks like bird wings 😂
My 4 year boy draws them perfectly
Funny how she can afford 4 kids at her age but not tyres on the car she transports them in, kids are not cheap !

& the chinese can make them well.
chris77777777ify Chinese tires are garbage. Super fast wear, unbalanced, can't be balanced, and terrible in anything wet. Sorry bud.

If it was up to the manufacturers ( sponsors of this program) we would have to fit new tires every 6 months.
I do anyway mine are always worn out within six months
Well someone took them off there car for a reason

Cat b cars unsafe to be reused on road have there tyres removed and sold in garages.

So? There can be any number of reasons why someone has chopped in their tyres. Perhaps the car was scrapped, or they didn't like the ride or noise of their current tyres or maybe they just decided to change them all for convenience. Part worn tyres are not necessarily dangerous and certainly not fake.
What does the cost look like taking wear into consideration?
1 new tyre vs 2-3 partly worn ones..

I'm sorry, this is mostly (but not all) bullshit. This is to boost the British economy.
+ you get more comfortable ride because of the higher sidewall of the tire
I only buy part-worn tyres after a puncture or a blowout. This ensures that my tyre wear will be as even as I can get it.
Hi I think this needs to be shown on TV again, this is the first time I've seen this.
Programs for the hard of thinking
Half the price of new tyres and no one will have to go for part worn .... if the safety of road users is a priority then stop the industry and government ripping every driver off
Part worn tyres are perfectly fine for tractors and farm trailers
Yes cause farmers have eyes and common sense 👌👌👌👌
if all the tyres need replacing then get new but if you get one that is punctured and cant be repaired then just get a part worn one. There are plenty of part worn tyre places that can do cheap and decent tyres that will better match the other tyres.
"My partner told me where to go!" And she still didn't listen!
