I recall before this game even came out people had accurately guessed the twist. Also he killed Asphyxia by removing the hands from its mouth and forcing it to breathe in contrast to how the girl it represents was asphyxiated to kill her.
This game could have been better. Maybe it should have been solely about the relationship between Alex and Josh than the sacrifice for the cult. Maybe how Alex loved his brother but hated how his parents preferred Josh over him which caused some resentment toward him.
Sin 93. They do make gas cut-off saws. Essentially a chainsaw but instead of a chain and bar for wood cutting they have either concrete cutting wheels or metal cutting wheels.
Travis had no problem driving through because they weren't in Silent Hill, they were in Shepherds Glen, Silent Hills sister town. Mentioned a few times them being in silent hill in the first half of the video when they hadn't even gotten there
the entire point of homecomings plot is that it happens after 3 in a world where the cult is destroyed and has to be reformed. not to mention that travis is visibly and audibly older, and theres no way he could grow a beard overnight. as well the fact that parts of central silent hill have actively eroded and fallen off into the lake + theres entirely new buildings there that have never remotely been mentioned before. *most* importantly: if the children have to gets sacrificed every fifty years, and a totel of four generations have been sacrificed, and shepherds glen 1as founded in the 1850's, *and* alex was gone for a few years, then the game would have to take place in the mid to late 2000's
That's the weird thing about Pyramid Head, he was created from James' psyche to punish him over the guilt of killing his wife. However in Silent Hill 2, you also find out that outfits similar to Pyramid Head existed in Silent Hill centuries ago as executioners of the various cults and sects that settled in the town. These depictions were in Misty Day, Remains of the Judgement and Crimson and White Banquet for the Gods. It was from these the Pyramid Head that stalked James was created. So there were things similar to Pyramid Head in Silent HIll, and I can see it stalking the halls.. the problem is, like the nurses.. it's always James' version. On the same topic, the creator of Pyramid Head has been upset with the misuse of the character, and even the Lead Producer of Konami did NOT want him in Homecoming, however the devs overruled his opinion and gave him that cameo,
It makes sense for James since he visited Silent Hill Historical Society with Mary at some point during their trips so his subconcious could relate it with town and punishment
I don't think Misty Days is a real picture, it only exists in the Otherworld as a creation of James' mind. It was the other picture, depicting cult executioners, the one that stuck in his mind and brought Pyramid Head to life. The important thing to notice about Pyramid Head is that his helmet is simply impossible for a human to wear, so real cultists couldn't have possibly dress like him, ergo Misty Days cannot be a picture in the real Silent Hill Historical Society.. Instead they wore conical hoods, which James' mind warped into an impossible metal helmet. Masahiro Ito talked about he designed PH with that in mind.
The only real physical difference I noticed between Silent Hill 2's Pyramid Head and the one in Homecoming is that in Homecoming the blade design of the great knife Pyramid Head wields is made to look like a combat knife instead of what it was in Silent Hill 2. The creators of Homecoming can make any excuse they want about why they shoe-horned Pyramid Head, the nurses, etc. from Silent Hill 2 into other Silent Hill games, but I will never give it any merit save for them trying to get fans of the series to get into playing whatever game they're hocking. I can't say I've truly loved a Silent Hill game outside of one through four. I know people usually don't like Silent Hill: The Room, but admittedly I do, and I've heard some people really enjoyed Origins and Downpour, but I wasn't big on either one. I don't hate them, but they just weren't something I ever saw as praise-worthy. Downpour repeated many of Homecoming's cardinal sins in my opinion. Origins just felt kind of derivative and essentially repeated a lot of what had come before but lacked enough of its own charm and merits that would've improved the game overall. I could go on, but let's face it, most people would just give this whole comment the old, "Too Long; Didn't Read," excuse, but in this case I can't say I blame them.
The nurses are a signature Silent Hill enemy, they were in the first 3 games. However the "Sexy Nurses" should not be signature, as you pointed out they were part of Jame's psyche. Supposedly in Homecoming, the nurses are sexy because they represent Alex's repressed libido, and how he feels Nurses and Candy Stripers were over sexualized by the military to comfort soldiers.
It's weirder if you consider that the ufo ending was bunched in with the other normal endings so you can get it on your first playthrough by making normal decisions like not forgiving the parents for Alex's crappy childhood and saving wheeler
I always kind of handwaved the "if he was never in the military how could he fight?" thing on the reasoning that Alex probably had a lot of anger problems growing up and got into frequent fights. He was bound to pick up a trick or two
I can’t imagine how difficult the Elden ring video has been to make. Glad your able to put other game videos out fairly quickly. Absolutely my favorite media sin channel.
You mention that the monsters are representations of how the children were killed, but don't understand why pulling Asphyxia's hands away from her mouth kills her?
21:19 i feel like this one kinda makes sense tho: alex thinks he was a soldier. if he thinks he was in a war, would he not also think that he’s killed humans before?
As for the Magical Mailman, he was supposed to become a common factor and reoccurring character in the series and all Silent Hill media going forward. Which is why he was in Down Pour, the comics, and Book of Memories.
I believe it's because the trophies system was a later addition to the PS3. Only a handful of old games have them, but that's because they received a patch later to include them.
Asphyxia represents Holloway's method of killing her youngest, strangulation. Making Asphyxia breathe kills her because she isn't supposed to be breathing
I know this is an older video, but there has always been one thing else wrong with the game that has stuck in my mind. When Alex is talking to the mayor, the mayor is drinking from a bottle. When the room shakes as the boss monster is about to appear, you see the mayor with his hand looking like it is holding a bottle, but the bottle is no longer there.
Silent hill homecoming was the first silent hill game I was old enough to play by myself, I saw glimpses of 2, 3, and 4 being played by my parents when i was little. This game may be a black sheep of the series but I'll still find enjoyment in it. And I didnt mind pyramid head showing up because i assumed he was part of silent hills history due to all the art and history books that existed about him in silent hill 2
Some responses to some sins: Holloway being captured by the monsters was the punishment for Alex's dad failing the sacrifice, like what happened with Lynch and the mayor. The order captures Elle because, like Alex, she opposes them and is a potential enemy like Alex, even Holloway says so and she says she wants her dead. Also, Joshua died because he got a hit in a part corresponding to the medulla part of the nervous system which triggers the breathing acts and his death was in vain because it was not the parents who killed him, since he is not Alex's son. Also, the cults of Silent hill connect the games, not just the town itself.
I think it's safe to assume that none of the 4 main family's would report the deaths of their children, hence why they're all basically "missing". Could you imagine how fast it would be found out they've been killing their own kids if one death was reported especially if they managed to find Nora's body with the strangulation marks on her neck. Sure since they're all basically the most important people in town they could try to quiet down any investigations but that would make it more suspicious. And call me crazy but I don't think Wheeler would believe that Adam wouldn't be looking for missing or dead children
Homecoming didn't try to replicate SH2, lol. Even so, let's get back of the story. SH5 OG by Team Silent was in fact a sequel of SH2. This story is gonna be about a patient of Brookhaven, his name was one of the names that James saw at the hospital. That means Jack, Joseph, or Joshua. This guy is also a soldier, and the game will be terror at daylight. The game was gonna by SH3, but Konami wanted a sequel of sh1, so this game took the place of SH5. The game created by Double Helix isn't that game, Homecoming was a reboot of the saga, and the elements like PH, or the nurses are from the movie of 2006, not from SH2. This explained places like The Grand Hotel, or the cult. The plot is kind of similar of the OG SH5, this story is about a soldier that returned to his home, but his little brother Joshua is missing. Unlike SH2, this game is about a broken family by the abuse. This abuse was in two ways, to the older brother, he was almost like a pariah, he was forced to do hard work, and was almost wipe out of the family, but the younger brother got the worst part, he was abused by The Boogeyman, which is in fact his father, Adam. The mother like in the case of Twin Peaks of Laura Palmer knew everything, but don't know what to do, she is almost a shadow of her family. So the plot explained us the dinamic of this family, Alex worked really hard, so he was always tired, and we don't know if Adam also punched him. When Alex fainted probably by the hard work, bad diet, and the punches of his father. The father went into Joshua. Crazy that Double Helix tried to make an homage to kubrick with this narrative, a topic of "The Shining". So Alex is doing the rol of Hallorann, while Joshua is Danny. Hallorann tried to protect Danny, but was upscale by Jack. The only thing that this game is similar to SH2 is that like SH2, Alex is probably another tortured soul of the town searching for his brother in that plane over and over, like Angela, Lisa, Eddie, and James.
I still don't understand why the founding families descendants didn't just move away to a different state very far away to avoid murdering their own children every 50 years...
They didn't move away to stop murdering their kids. Every few decades they were expected to kill 1 child to uphold their original covenant. They believe breaking this Covenant will cause God's wrath which ironically causes the spiritual power around Toluca Lake to manifest monsters. The SH cult gets involved because the Mayor becomes radicalized by the experience & reaches out to them.

@@Artemas_16 No, it doesn't. I experienced the game for myself - no ruined mood, no cheapened expectations. Anyone familiar with the franchise is aware there are multiple endings, anyone peering at the achievements list is aware there are multiple endings, anyone willing to so much as take a guess why they are prompted to make explicit choice in-game is all too aware there are multiple endings. And henceforth seeing the fade to black, followed up by an all-new scene at the end, is the cinematic relating to what ending they obtained. Obviously. And when they see the UFO ending - cynics not withstanding, apparently - they laugh. Because it is funny! They felt fear and fought for life as Alex, and... aliens! It is also rather curious; what could have possibly caused the appearance of aliens of all things?! How fun and quirky! Now the player definitely needs to run an additional playthrough! Factually incorrect; there is nothing random about obtaining any of the endings, let alone this one. Splendid mansplain, though entirely unrelated. Your own likes are all to eager to emphasize how unrelated the western games are, remember?
I remember the trailer to this when it was first announced I was excited but then I learned that team silent was originally going to do one last Silent Hill but Konami said no due to the mixed reviews that SH4 received and opted to go with a western developer instead. Hopefully these new Silent Hill projects are great and lead to a true 5th one since PT was cancelled.
If Pyramid Head is linked to James, why did Walter Sullivan see it too? It's said in the newspaper inside the building's trash bag, in Silent Hill 2. I think Pyramid Head is linked to order and the city. So it makes sense that he is in Shepherd Glen because the pact with the order of Silent Hill has been broken. Order is present in Silent Hill 2, we see it in the prison, where we also find a painting of pyramid head.
Walter didn't see Pyramid Head, he saw the ghost of Jimmy Stone, his first victim. Stone was a priest of the cult, and he wore a conical hood like that worn by the old executioners of Silent Hill. A painting in the museum depicts said executioners, and Pyramid Head was born when James saw that paiting and his mind associated it with feelings of guilt and a need for punishment. The hood was twisted into a metal helmet that could not possibly be worn by any human being.
Speaking of Walter Sullivan, did he have any close ties with Alessa, Claudia and the other members of the Order? From what I’ve heard, Dahlia raised Walter into believing the Order’s Gods and told him that if he wants to see his mother again, he needs to complete the 21 Sacraments.
I honestly think they wanted to make good games with downpours and homecoming they just lacked any sort of talent for horror games that the original creators excelled at. That's the reality with changing studios as the game will always change because no two people or groups of people in this case can't have the same perspective when it comes to design, character, and story,
Kinda questionable at 29:37, I somewhat agree that Alex was going to kill Alex because it really didn't make sense to bring him on a boat just to talk and the developers changed it up. But the reason the parents treated Alex differently was for Alex to hate them and never come back to them or feel any remorse. They knew Alex was supposed to be sacrificed but, they loved both their sons, This actually tore the parents to pieces and they literally paid for it being torn physically not just mentally.
In defense of Pyramid Head’s appearance in this game- PH’s presence in Homecoming makes more sense than his role in SH2. Pyramid Head is a symbolic executioner in the Order and Alex, who was raised at least on the periphery of the Order, would be more likely to be aware of him than James, who knew nothing of the Order except what he learned during the course SH2. PH also fulfills the role of executioner more clearly in Homecoming, though this can be explained by the fact the James did not know enough about PH to imagine him in his true role. Also, the difference in his appearance between the games can be explained by Alex’s knowledge of the Order as opposed to James’ only vague awareness of the Order. That said, it would have been better if they had created something other than PH for Homecoming, kind of like how they created the Butcher for Origins.
What you just said is a load of crap. The whole point of Pyramid Head that's was James personal monster, it represented James burden for killing his own wife. Pyramid Head has nothing to the with Order/Cult because Silent Hill 2 wasn't focused on the that stuff. The only reason Pyramid Head is in Homecoming because the developers were too lazy and was thrown in because he's "iconic" to the franchise. Homecoming story is rip off of Silent Hill 2.
Thanks for doing a video on SH Homecoming… I was so looking forward to it before it came out. Man, but what a letdown? I couldn’t stand the gameplays and story soon after, and I hurried it up to just finish the rest of the game without having to suffer through it any longer, lol😂 IMHO SH 0rigins was a much more fun game.
I'm pretty sure Cybil Bennett survived the 1st Silent Hill game (depending on if Harry Mason collected the unknown liquid in the Hospital and used it on her in the Carousel fairground scene) since she replaces Rose Mason in the opening cinematic on the next playthrough. Cybil Bennett is also referenced as having survived that experience when Heather Mason looks at various books on shelves in Harry's apartment after his death scene in the 3rd game when Heather states that some of the books were detective novels, meaning Cybil must have recommended them to Harry at some point after their Silent Hill experience, so when the sherif in Silent Hill Homecoming referenced that a cop from Brahms had gone to Silent Hill and nobody had heard from said cop ever again, this statement flies in the face of what would have happened in previous game titles of the Silent Hill franchise.
"... meaning Cybil must have recommended them to Harry ..." Well that's a fucking stretch. I've read some detective-novels. You think Cybil recommended them to me? Maybe Cybil was into erotic fiction, but just didn't recommend it to Harry, and he just liked detective-stuff on his own? Allso Cybil wasn't a detective. She could've recommended novels of regular beat-cops. Do you think every dentist reads and recommends books about dentists? Every person that sorts trash reads and recommends books about garbage-men/women? C'mon, dude, seriously... (:
My pre-ordered copy of Homecoming was glitchy as hell. Audio and Visual effects would drop. Plus, one of the reason's I liked Silent Hill was the enemies were there to push you forward. If you stayed in a place to long, you would then be attacked. So it was about keeping the player moving. By focusing on the combat more, the enemy became more of an obstacle rather than something to be avoided. Different mental perception. Also, Homecoming was much more of a go to area, eliminate all threats, proceed to next area. Thats Call of Duty. Silent hill was "why the heck are these cans of juice useful?"..."Ohhhh."
1:20 Thank you, you just summed up why I hate Silent Hill 2 Because every game after the 4 team silent Hill games are just a poor carbon copy of Silent Hill 2. Those games can't even be original.
I think Silent Hill devs could get away with reusing enemies like Pyramid Head and the Nurses if they used them as the town figures for what they represent (guilt and lust, respectively). You could even perhaps make a game where the monsters play as hints to what trauma a character suffers from
I think they are this way actually, the SH enemies all show similar, though not identical, designs. I like to think the town is semi-sentient, but also reuses archetypal monsters. For instance, the nurses in 1 were sort of converted into insane cancers, and they kept attributes of them in 2 and 3. The dogs appear consistently, and split-head enemies seem to re-occur. Also, 0, 2, 3, and Homecoming feature a PH like entity, arguably the Boogeyman of D is the same.
2:24 "This is a town that is so determined to screw with a random office clerk that it created a sexier version of his deceased wife to confuse the hell out of him and then proceeded to kill her over and over again before his eyes" is the best plot summary I've ever heard of Silent Hill 2.
the reason they remake silent hill 2 is because there are millions of video essays on why silent hill 2 is and forever will be the best video game in existence, so really all the blame goes to youtubers.
Silent hill 2 fans make up 99 percent of the silent hill fanbase. All other fans just like other games and mainstream people think they are not silent hill fans because they don't have an alter adoration of silent hill 2 like everyone else. It's pretty much the same thing with resident evil everyone loves RE2 or 4 so damned much that all the mainstream fans think there were no other games in the franchise worth playing or to love outside of the popular games that everyone default loves.
Ahem. Referring to the first Silent Hill movie as a "misuse of the franchise" is uncalled for. Silent Hill is arguably the best and only good video game to movie adaption still to this date
Doing 2, 3, and maybe The Room would piss off too many people. Criticizing old horror games in general tends to get people malding, but Silent Hill it applies double, people really do put some of these games up on a pedestal.
Masahiro Ito (the creator of Pyramid Head) openly said he wishes he had never created him. Even though he never said why, i do belive it has something to do with how misused he is.
I feel that most people miss the main point of difference between the Japanese and the Western games of the series, despite later games in a series often being inferior. In the Japanese version of a western story, the male protagonists were always not embodying masculine stereotypes in the slightest. This made them emotionally more open, sensitive and vulnerable - overall more accessible.
The main difference? How are Travis and Murphy not vulnerable characters? Narratively the Western games just have a less coherent plot. Downpour's plot is a mess in particular
This feels like a weaker part of your 'Everything wrong' series. Several sins don't make sense or are even contradicted by other sins. While i agree Homecoming wasn't up to par with earlier entries (since it heavily relied on action), the background story does have its merits.
Because the parents should do it, Josh is not Alex's son. Also the parents have to choice who the heir will be in advance, hence the "i chose you Alex".
I liked this game because it had a lot of SH2 elements with updated graphics and combat, and it wasn't as boringly monotonous as SH2. Plus, you get to become a pyramid head at the end if you make shit decisions. Then you can replay the game in the pyramid head costume. Unlike the majority of Silent Hill fans, I'm easy to please.
I don’t get why Mr. Shepherd didn’t make Josh the sacrifice after Alex accidentally killed him. I mean the boy did drown. So the whole ritualistic thing would have work out regardless of which child is dead, chosen or not.
But there’s another plot hole in this game, the lore behind Shepard’s Glen. According to this game, Shepard’s Glen was founded so people can get away from Silent Hill’s homicidal rituals. But out of fear of enraging the Order’s Gods, the four founders of Shepard’s Glen made a pact to kill one of their children every 50 years, which defeats the purpose of why Shepard’s Glen was founded in the first place. If anything, they could have moved to either Rhode Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, New York or Mary Land.
Honestly I'm for the love of SH2 what I'm not for is claiming it's influenced by when the creators obviously doesn't get what made it great. Like you said about how they're so obsessed with it it was remade and granted the bloober seems like they understand what made it great I don't think silent hill team overall does and its because honestly as cool as the cult stuff is the MC and the town itself needs to be the 2 main characters and focus if your not going to work in the town history that's fine but it's still just as much a character as James of Alex or Henry. It's why the movie failed imo because they were more focused on making it work around the cult plot and frankly SH works best when it's more focus on the PERSON because of the nature of the town.

the entire point of homecomings plot is that it happens after 3 in a world where the cult is destroyed and has to be reformed. not to mention that travis is visibly and audibly older, and theres no way he could grow a beard overnight. as well the fact that parts of central silent hill have actively eroded and fallen off into the lake + theres entirely new buildings there that have never remotely been mentioned before.
@@JohnSmith-iw1wd Misty Days was in the Mist World portion though, which is a more valid reflection of the town.
And that's why I like downpour more because at least it have bogeyman
The nurses are a signature Silent Hill enemy, they were in the first 3 games.
However the "Sexy Nurses" should not be signature, as you pointed out they were part of Jame's psyche.
Supposedly in Homecoming, the nurses are sexy because they represent Alex's repressed libido, and how he feels Nurses and Candy Stripers were over sexualized by the military to comfort soldiers.
But he was never in the military tho

As for the Magical Mailman, he was supposed to become a common factor and reoccurring character in the series and all Silent Hill media going forward. Which is why he was in Down Pour, the comics, and Book of Memories.
The fact that the PS3 version for this game didn’t have any trophies made no sense especially when the Xbox version had achievements
I believe it's because the trophies system was a later addition to the PS3. Only a handful of old games have them, but that's because they received a patch later to include them.
@@paulcorvans5767 yeah mgs4 had trophies and that came out in 08

Yeah makes sense, PH was an executioner in older times
I can't believed I played this game... ended up enjoying it and beating it multiple times. Lol this is the only silent hill game I've played 😅
Some responses to some sins:
Holloway being captured by the monsters was the punishment for Alex's dad failing the sacrifice, like what happened with Lynch and the mayor.
5:08 I love your description of silent hill enemies. It sounds…right
Here to watch cause I got stood up at my school homecoming.
I think this is the game where you can get yourself stuck physically in a hole in the wall.
Or is that downpour??
I don't think a God has a limit of distance, they were not afraid of the cult but of their God.
Before I watch this...I just really want to point out that Homecoming has more to do with the movies than Silent Hill 2.

They felt fear and fought for life as Alex, and... aliens! Hopefully these new Silent Hill projects are great and lead to a true 5th one since PT was cancelled.
Keep those Hills a'coming!
That's the reality with changing studios as the game will always change because no two people or groups of people in this case can't have the same perspective when it comes to design, character, and story,
This game was 10x better than Downpour in my opinion.
The music and monster design and general aesthetics of the ENVIRONMENT should be commended.
I can't wait to see what they did with the remake
Thanks for doing a video on SH Homecoming… I was so looking forward to it before it came out. Man, but what a letdown?
"... meaning Cybil must have recommended them to Harry ..."
Well that's a fucking stretch.

I think Silent Hill devs could get away with reusing enemies like Pyramid Head and the Nurses if they used them as the town figures for what they represent (guilt and lust, respectively). You could even perhaps make a game where the monsters play as hints to what trauma a character suffers from
The idea is too good, they can't possibly use this.
No, they're specific to _characters_ not _themes_
And the SH-devs left after part 4, so they can't "get away" with anything.
Say you don’t know what you’re talking about without actually saying it.
