With the launch of the V4 this week too, one can only hope they start supporting all the other keyboard form factors too. The price is insanely good and finding a Mac compatible mechanical keyboard isn't easy

I think in the "market" of fully assembled keyboards, even with all those "non-custom" options available, the Keychrons are pretty competitively priced. That does not mean that the market isn´t overall inflated in price^^... I think it is crazy, how much some of the parts cost, and quality is realistically not justifying these prices at all.

My barebones V1 came a few days ago and i used EG Aqua King switches that i spent 6ish 7ish hours lubing. I also got some really good budget keycaps. The spacebar sounded terrible, but i put some packing foam in it and it made it sound acceptable. for my first custom keyboard with a really low budget, it is really good and sounds exactly like how i would want my keyboard to sound. i also started to learn how to type properly without looking. in just a day i can do it pretty slowly, but its a good start for one day
Do you think a Holee mod would fix it?

also keychron ha hot swap so you can mod it too and even easier without soldering. It will even sound better after that so you have i think a winner

I bought a V1 after watching Andy's Emogogo video, and I'm impressed. The sound isn't as good as my Bakeneko, but that's actually double the price which is insane. The V1 also makes a much better gaming keyboard as the front height and typing angle (which is adjustable) is much lower than the Q1. It's an easy buy for the money, and while the stabs aren't perfect it's easy enough to fit a Durock V2 in the spacebar.

Keychron and Owlab are the 2 biggest players in keyboards right now IMO. Keychron is making the hobby accessible and Owlab is innovating like crazy.
There’s also Akko but they’re kinda awkward due to lack of availability and their weird love for north facing switch orientation. And there are also a lot of small designers who are innovating it’s just they use the group buy model so they don’t get the funding to bring their idea to life and don’t get as much coverage.
@@kaeroseon from what I know, north facing LEDs are cheaper to manufacture due to the more mature manufacturing process since every other non-enthusiast company like Razor/Corsair/Logitech uses north facing.
Akko probably wanted to use the cheaper manufacturing process to improve their manufacturing plants before switching to south facing LEDs.
keychron is awesome. I got myself a q3 and love it. I modded it though. I'm useing lubed box inks, replaced the plate foam with pe foam (there's not enough room to fit both), used lubed owlstabs, tape mod, force break mod, and I used keybored's butylene sound deadener and even a little case foam. it's a ton of mods, but I love the end resulting sound. oh, and the keycaps would be domikey single chip.

the only youtuber who makes ads enjoyable
The RK61 is also much smaller and has way different materials than the Keychron, so not really a good comparison.
The rk84 is similar but closer to the bare v1 in price at ~65usd. It also is tri-mode wireless and USB passthrough but still has those crap ABS keycaps and north facing led. It does come with decent stabs and foam but it's also tray mounted.
$84 usd for a fully built v1 isn't bad...
But the bare v1 is basically making the case that south facing, screw in stab, & qmk/via is more valuable for you than tri-mode and passthrough.

Take a look at the akko 5075s barebones
it's a 60$ keeb with a ton of foam and its gasket mounted and hotswap (it comes in 4 different colors).
The bad thing is that it's plastic.
it'll be a great competitor to the v1.
i forgot to mention that it also comes with a silicone damper

You and every other RUclipsr save for one, leave out the fact that Keychron has absurd shipping costs that add heavily to the cost making it well over 100$ for the full build. I believe calling this the "budget option" considering that price point vs actual budget options is a bit of intellectual dishonestly. Please consider the whole buying experience, some of us don't feel comfortable how expensive this hobby can be so we need a more honest review of the product as a whole experience rather than just the specific item, buying from a vendor who doesn't charge obscene shipping is part of that.
These are now available on amazon for a 5 dollar upcharge from the base price, free shipping included. I do agree however that a lot of reviews seem to omit this as well as shipping cost, which they did reduce down to 10-15 dollars but still a considerable amount, from the total cost when ordering from Keychron themselves.

Also tester68/84 are crazy decent for their price points (for a similiar price tester84 got destroyed by gas67, but it's still half alu frame and steel plate, i really like harsh tactile/clicky switches in it for some reason)

Nice video! Important question: Can macros be uploaded to the keyboard? Say can i bind F12 to output a string of text that I use frequently. ... and connect the keyboard to a work computer (with no software installed) and have the macro work?
