    The first thing I thought when I saw this was OMFG It's an Obi Wan Kinobi overcoat shawl. Love it!

    Love this pattern and I'm simply fizzing with ideas. I love the way you explain the reasons behind the pattern rather than just "just do it because this is how it's written".

    Living in the deep south, a beautiful Ruana is the perfect cover up. Not too hot & just enough to keep the chill away. I have made a few over the years in Pendleton wool & also in fleece. Now I will make one in yarn! Thank you for the pattern & a clear explanation.

    i am making a ruana like this, same stitch, with my stockpile ends and pieces
    of blues from various projects. i am turning it into a kimono, by adding sleeves, seaming in a decorative stitch and adding a crochet sash/belt. it can also be my go-to duster/robe. so simple, using this stitch.

    Oh my gosh - this was exactly what I was looking for, especially with dividing the shawl into the two flaps because my occupied mind was thinking in such a complex way and you made it so easy to follow and understand... Thank you so much, you have a very soothing voice and great way of explaining and I did my duty and hit the like and subscribe button ;-) Greetings from Germany!

    I love the flexibility of this pattern as to size and stitch variables. I’m planning on making several of these in the near future as you can just pop them on over all types of clothing and can wear them in or out of the house. Great idea as well as a great turtorial. Thanks again

      Suggestion for those in nursing homes, some may want it to be smaller in length for the shawl portion, then add a second small lap size blanket Afghan for those using wheel chairs.

    A little update - not that anybody cares, lol, but I'm so happy with this. I still have to finish the left front piece, I made about 1/3, so I sort of tried it on to see if what I wanted to do with it would actually work, and I think it will. I'll turn it into a jacket by sewing the sides together, probably half way up. And if I want to close it I can use a brooch. And my yarn is more than enough.
    I have a lot of yarn lying around that I don't know what to do with and I will make at least one more but with a different pattern and probably in all kinds of colors to put some of the yarn that I already thought about throwing away to good use. You made me really happy with this pattern, I'm going through a hard time at the moment and this is a wonderful and easy distraction where you don't have to be able to focus 100 % which I can't at the moment, but you still end up with a piece that is special and looks like you bought it somewhere for 499, lol.

    • @FiberSpider
      @FiberSpider  6 лет назад +4

      I'm so glad you are enjoying this piece, and finding some peace through "mindful stitching" 😊🕸🕷

    • @michaelamagdalena6933
      @michaelamagdalena6933 6 лет назад

      It's just so perfect, you can do so many things with it, even make it only, I don't know, 25 to 30 inches wide and crochet sleeves on it (no sewing) and make an oversize jacket and of course you can also knit the piece in all kinds of colors and patterns. This design will keep me busy for at least a year, lol.

    Hi FS,
    Hope all is well.
    I purchased Herrschners pastry plus yarn by the color way of Allspice (743 yards.) I loved the yarn the moment I took it out of the box.... several months later I still didn’t not have a special project for the yarn. Well I discovered this tutorial a week ago, I immediately knew my Allspice yarn was the choice. I ran into the room pulled it off the shelf, rewind the video, pressed play and, started crocheting.
    Oh the yarn was crocheting up so smoothly it was singing. I placed my stitch marker at row 20 because I needed to reach row 60 for the next directions. I started listening to the yarn talk, it was saying I’m going to be a blanket, but the sounds were too low because I had the TV on. I had to order more yarn due to only one cake of yarn. After I reached row 30 and began to add the second cake I said only 30 rows to go before I listen to FS next instruction...The yarn said No! I’m not going to be a Kimono I’m going to be a blanket. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing I said aloud what did you say. Again the yarn said a blanket. I’m on row 63 well passed 60 because now I’m making a blanket.
    Didn’t know that yarn speaks.
    Thanks for the tutorial I will locate the special yarn to make the Kimono.
    Enjoy your day.

    Thanks! I found my oyster....Couple things. 1) I needed to make a short valance for my bathroom window and could think of a quick, simple and lengthy way to add a splash to the window. So I think I will do an open box with a few granny squares all through out. AND 2) I have been trying to find an easy to make sweater to fit (my size) without having to size me up. It is too complicated to make fast sweaters when you have to search out LARGE sizes and follow all the instructions. I may try this in a shorter version so I can make multiple colors to go with all my outfits. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!

    Fantastic and thank you so much. Just the item I need to make my partner. He feels to cold and always complains and the cost of gas heating is getting more expensive. Now I just need to find a nice light yarn that will give him warmth without weight.

    I checked the yarn that you used, and apparently one ball has 448 g. I bought 2 balls of yarn in black a couple of weeks ago, they always get them before Christmas at one of our discounters, so it was cheap, but the quality is ok. It is 400 g each. So I thought I'll make it a bit less wide and maybe 2 rows shorter in the back and 2 in the front, and it will be enough yearn. Or maybe it would be enough anyway, it always depends on the yarn, etc. The thing is, I tried to make something with a very complicated pattern with it and in black that is really hard because you don't really see what you are doing. But the simple granny square pattern is perfect for it. So now I know what to do with all that black yarn, yay!
