Season two brings a whole new level of horror to this scene. A decade of solitude in a dungeon brought a madness into his tortured experience. When he sees people in the first time in who knows how long and they don’t have the key, he wants the isolation back. He seeks the pain that he is familiar with and that adds so much more tragedy to his character.

He also a great foil to the main lesson of the show as someone who couldn't accept himself for who he was. Elktaur was a great guy and sad he couldn't see that.
I love how the song reads "you will bring, joy to the nowhere king." As its wretching in obvious pain and vomiting, making it unsure if this creature is even capable of joy

Honestly, yea, hard agree, it would be better if no songs were sung while he's still at full power, it would lend credence to how fucked up to the whole world his existence is.
That, or they could have the centaurs stop singing the moment they see the Nowhere King. Then to add a bigger impact, the centaurs' entrance could be used to interrupt the lullaby being played. No music, no sound, nobody moving.... Then suddenly, the Nowhere King starts moving and the lullaby continues playing but this time at a more intense and dramatic scale. That's what I thought of. Not sure if it's any good though.
I like to think that while the king of nothing begins to emerge, the song in the background is really being heard by the protagonists, making it more murky, seeing an unknown and monstrous creature and hearing the singing and whispers of children in the background like lost souls really do it. even scarier
3:03 - 3:15 this part always gets me, not just because of how the herd sees Horse as part of their family, but also because the harmonization in their singing is absolutely perfect! 😭

If i had a penny for every time I’ve seen a seemingly innocent show with a dark gooey creature with antlers and glowing green eyes as the main antagonist I’d have two pennies which isn’t allot but it’s weird that it happened twice
I think the Nowhere King is way scarier than the Lich simply because we find out about the Nowhere Kings backstory. This guy was an actual person in the past, a centuar (elktuar) who fell in love, and then made the biggest mistake of his life. Thus, ruining thousands maybe millions of lives in the process. God knows what his armys kill count is, along with his own.
Not to mention, while living his dream he has also simultaneously forced himself to experience unfathomable cruelty and neglect; pushing him further into the depths of madness and despair as one form rots and is forced to continue living by the selfish other half.
Mm, there are different ways to build a character's fear factor, I suspect. The Lich is intentionally ambiguous, since he isn't strictly speaking even a singular person. The horror there is that of the unknown, that he is a mysteriously fated inevitability across multiple timelines striving for the end of existence without any apparent reason. He's closer to a mechanism of reality than a character, at a certain point, and the inhumanity of this mechanism is frightening for that reason. As far as I can tell (I'm less familiar with the lore of Centaurworld), the Nowhere King is much more human in that he is a regular person who has become twisted and given himself up to malevolence over the course of his life. This makes him a more understandable character, which does run the risk of losing the "unknown" fear factor. That said, to know precisely how a good person can become twisted into an all-devouring malevolence is also a wonderful source of horror all the same, so who's to say which is more frightening. I guess it's up to personal preference.

Once you know his backstory, they way the Nowhere kings was screaming "LET ME OUT!!!"
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS AN ANCIENT GOD FROM LOVCRAFT MYTHS!!!
Watch season 2 and you’ll find out.
Me: *Sees Nowhere King.*
Seconds later: "...Where's the rift to Gravity Falls, I rather deal with evil Dorito with a top hat than THAT."
Bill: Same, honestly I just want to rule the world, this guy is committing an ENTIRE GENOCIDE.
Bill just wants to throw a classy party with a few casualties on the side. This guy is plain rude. No invite for him.
the way he moves & looks is almost like a combination of The Lich from Adventure Time & The Pony of Shadows from MLP
As I look him dead in the eye and whisper “your mom.” When he asks for the key.
Nowhere King is absolutely terrifying.
I love it XD
Love how his eyes showed that he was only really focused on leaving when they quite literally resembled the doorway
I didn’t really like this show until nowhere king showed up he honestly made everything more serious
I've never watched this show but...
He seems like a good boy. Like he could be a sweetie. It seems like he's just been in this place so long that it's messed him up. Kinda like the transformation of Simon to the Ice King in Adventure Time.
Yeah ! i agree!! ***SPOILERISH*** (trying not to)) ---------There's someone else he's connected to that never will be tho ..soo
i absolutely love the nowhere king theme though, so good!
Like a true demon he to loves dancing and musicals
The song goes: Hush now, Hide all you little ones Rush now, Into the middle of nowhere, singing and laughter will die..
That’s the first part of the song in you want to sing it
Dreamless sleep, follows the nowhere king, when his kingdom comes, darkness is niiiigh....
Quiet
Crawl through the in-between
Silent
Secretive feeling of fearsome
Hatred that reaches the skies~
He's very content with just leaving his house to the squatters.
This guy honestly scared me at first but i have now had the thought to want to cosplay as him or something, he's so fucking scary at first
Me (starting centaur world): pfft this is such a dumb kid's show...
Me (Nowhere King shows up): this is a kid's show?!?!?
It may look disturbing with the miasma, but imagine if that was all flesh and bones...
Fans every time the nowhere king does something evil: *drinks* *bottle* *with* *tragic* *backstory* WAAAAHHG
Man's has the same type of vibe as the litch from adventure time, intentionally uncomfortably out of place with the rest of the show in a good way
He sounds like the litch from adventure time and he is like a wendigo that sounds like dr seuss book.... not creepy at all..
He reminds me of Elias from "The ancient magus bride"!
@@Yestoanime Yessss i thought so too ;P
Also no face from spirited away :D
Way creepier than expected. Love it.
The Kirby franchise called, they want their eldritch abomination back.
In all seriousness this guy is one of the best creepy cartoon villains I’ve ever seen.
This show confuses me so much. There’s centaur world, that’s just a kids show with fart jokes and stupid magic and, well, childish things you would expect from a kids show. And then there’s the.. earth? Side… war. Violence. Battle. Trust and betrayal, And the Nowhere king. Literal Elrich horror. Horrifying. HORRIFYING. TERRIFYING. Is this a kids show…? Is this a teen show? Is this an adult show? What is this, what genre? What is happening. Why did I watch all this kinda cringy childish stuff and then get hit in the face with eldrich abomination horror and plot.
Idk but i do know its basically sums up reality for me.. You have both moments all through out life. also remember we watched Moms and Dads die before literal probably equalivalent 4 yr olds growing up... dont forget ferngully!
I like the nowhere king’s motivation.
Hush now, hide, all you little ones
Rush now, into the middle of nowhere
Singing and laughter will die
Dreamless sleep, follows the Nowhere King
When his kingdom comes, darkness is nigh
Quiet, crawl to the in-between
Silent, secretive feeling
Of fearsome hatred that reaches the skies
You will bring joy to the Nowhere King
When he sees the light leaving your eyes.
every kid show after gravity falls for some reason
The Eyes remind me of the Lich, but the Black mass reminds me of how we all pictured Gaster from undertale…
After listening to last lullaby this just hits different. *SPOILERS*
The nowhere king is an elk centaur that fell in love with the woman, but hated himself, so he turned split himself in two or whatever, but she married the general. (Note: I don’t watch the show, I’m going off of my knowledge and other people)
You pretty much hit the nail on the head the only thing you're missing is that the elk half became a monster on the outside while the general ended up being a monster on the inside
@@thelorebrarian2266 oh ok
and they had to fight each other for years while not killing the other because theyll basically kill themselves
Whole intro and aesthetic kinda gives me darkness devil vibes. Really cool.
Giving me mad spirited away no face vibes
1:21 that head tilt fucking gets me every time
The discord when he sings fits him perfectly.
He’s basically the darkness devil from chainsaw man and literally The NWKs entrance is the same as the darkness devils entrance
1:35 This vision with that theme below is particularly disturbing...
Am I the only one who thinks of the devil's carnival when they hear the nowhere king sing?
I didn’t notice this at first but Rider actually misses her sword first time she tries to grab it while staring at the goop.
2:16 He sounded so insulted
HE HAS SUCH A GOOD DESIGN
UPDATE : didnt realize people were commenting on this, sorry yals!~
