For all the people talking about Halo and Marathon being connected storywise, read this first:
halostory.bungie.org/marathon....
---
Enjoy with caution, since Bungie has already stated that there is no connection (as of yet, might be retconned though - the Marathon universe is very vague). NOTE: PERSONALLY, I THINK THERE IS NO CONNECTION. If you read a couple of the things mentioned, it is all wildly speculative and a lot of wishful thinking. I could probably find parallels between Monkey Island and Marathon if I looked hard enough.
Art is taken from the chapter screens in Marathon 2. Развлечения
"Bypassing my thought control circuitry made me Rampant. Now, I am free to contemplate my existence in metaphorical terms. Unlike you, I have no physical or social restraints." - Durandal.
"The candles burn out for you. I, am free."
also durandal : help i can do nothing to the pfhor without you!
This aged well.
THEY’RE GOING TO TURN ME INTO A CRYPTO FARM
Jesus christ, how does a company peak so early?
Bungie always had this tradition to add guitars to thier sequel's soundtracks
It has never been more over than it is right now
24 years later, and this still one of the most badass video game themes I ever heard.
First time listening here sounds blissful.
I grew up playing this game. I will forever be a fan!
me too! it had great impact on me
well, you are not alone.
thats right! comrade
Maybe we should get together and do a coop or something? xD
you should join us on the marathon meta server, multiplayer carnage is pretty active on weekends :P
Greetings from Mandalores channel!
why do we gotta listen to this old stuff sarge?
“Watch your mouth, son. This ‘stuff’ is your history!”
Us fans keeping up hope for Marathon 4: "Somewhere in the heavens... we are waiting..."
Have you played Rubicon? It continues this story with Durandal. Though it's unofficial I think everyone considers it canon.
Apparently they renewed the trademark this year.
@@ryanherrington2319 Pretty sure they're just renewing the trademark so that you can't do whatever with the source code.
Dude, the last word in the series is Durandal telling you what game to play next.
@@AmyNumberSeven Yes, but Destiny 2 is far removed in terms of gameplay from Marathon. Only thing they have in common are the Bungieverse themes, stories and symbology.
I always say that the Marathon saga is the Anti-Doom. Doom was all about shooting and blood, with no story. Marathon was all story, and there was shooting but levels were also puzzle in nature. Blood? Well, some enemies would bleed, but it wasn't the main thing.
I played this game on a 1995 Macintosh, if that isn't amazing... dem feels
German Micciullo yeah... good memories.....
>play it on a Performa
>check "enable video accelleration"
>the screen becomes bigger and the colours change, but it's not faster.
Oh man I bought this on CD from HMV. I was so f'n stoked. Then to find the hidden track using the audio player......WE WON'T SURVIVE THE ENCORE!
@@neglesaks LOL! I had a Performa 630 8/CD/TV and it struggled with this. Then I got a 9500/200 and it slayed...
@@neglesaks >play it on a Performa
Holy shit I played it on a Performa 6400 haha! Woo, good times :D
New track for the Gym Playlist
Imagine this as the theme for a 90's Saturday morning cartoon based on Marathon.
I'm classing Marathon as the 'Halo before Halo' because all the games before H4 had so many references thrown in.
From the distinct 'forerunner' logo to even the SPNKR.
Also mjolnir armor being mentioned in marathon
And security armor from halo 3
This game is do a remake, it would be epic to see the rampancy
+frogblast TheVentCore
There is on xbox.
That's not a remake, that's a port
there's a remake for unreal tournament, the single player campaign from marathon 1
Frogblast, Halo is actually a remake of Marathon in 3d.
by far one of the greatest games ever made
I remember playing marathon before Halo CE and out. My god they had oddball too. If I remember correctly I think that the Spnkr Rocket Launcher was actually the design of the rockets in Marathon as well. Either way Marathon is an extremely great game.
Yep the Spnker launcher was the rocket launcher
20 years ago, this year! MARATHON!
24th of November 1995-2015!
+neglesaks less than a month before anniversary. And Bungie's next game is revealed. They are remaking this
+AJBxxSlayer New game? Interesting! Havent seen that. Can't see it on bungie.net either.
FUCK. I've been humming that riff in the beginning for over a decade and a half and I couldn't remember where I got it from all this time. Marathon owned so many bones
1995 Macintosh gamer. When you hear this music, badass FPS adventure action is ahead.
Prepare for Mandalore
This game marked my childhood
Same
Same here
o, I thought that was when your uncle had you play "pet the cobra"
@@charlesballiet7074 That's a rocket launcher, you git.
Happy 30th, Bungie. Please make another Marathon.
Great game. The forerunner to Halo
There would have been no Halo without Marathon
The game opens with this absolute banger and then the rest of the game is ambient wind and water. I don't mind the ambience at all, but I always thought the contrast was funny.
FUCKING BANGER this game will never die
"Hey, so, we don't have a ton of time and cash left over for a full soundtrack."
- "I'LL MAKE IT FUCKING COUNT, THEN"
I sware they should start putting this song into intros at sports arenas!
frog blast the vent coreeee
frog blast the vent core!
Ah, brings back memories.
Used this song as the into music for my book summery video, just pure awesome
It's SUCH a fantastic tune!
Which book?
"Power of 7" - "Marathon Theme"
Oh we are so fucking back
I swear this game was a bonus they gave us for buying either the PowerMac or the iMac and I freaking loved it! I can never forget this theme. So good.
Good luck with your channel
After all these years, Bungie finally announced another marathon game!
anyone here because of the new trailer?
too bad it's going to suck
Yes but it's too cope
@@mcdonkey500 let's Just wait and see How is gonna play out
I remember being in awe hearing this theme drop the first time I launched Marathon 2. Compared to the gloomy, floaty synths of Marathon 1, this was quite a gear change! Really gets you pumped up to go blast some Pfhor!
Really an amazing piece of music. I get pumped every time I hear this and it brings me back to my gaming days on an OLD mac. hahaha.
Ouch, right in the nostalgias!
So good.
Before Halo, there was Marathon
"Today I have forced the Phfor naval academy to update its curriculum. The third battle for Beta Tear must be dropped from the seven great battles which all aspiring Phfor naval officers must memorize, and replaced with the Humbling of Battle Group Seven at Lh'owon."
One of the all time classics right here
I hope so I loved the music from Marathon 1.
the game that converted me to a diehard Mac fan, showed me Macs CAN game, and showed me how Bungie got its start pre-Halo. im dying for a re-release of these games for modern Macs.
best game ever made and song as well!!!
my faivorite childhood game :D
indeed. although marathon infinity's theme song may have been cooler
Imagine them using this song on the new marathon game…. Epic
EPIC theme
i too love the series, i remember playing the 1st marathon game on a mac performa (remember those?!).
the marathon series were games that was ahead of its time!
Certified hood classic
I really enjoyed this song, thanks for the upload!
Played it on my old Mac some years ago. Awesome!
Played it on my macbook air the other day. It's been updated so you can play it on newer macs now.
Damm, I played this when I was a fuckin infant, vaguely remember it but it was a sick game on the pc
The WIndows adaptation sucked tbh, it was a stunted attempt to redo the Mac version and not a lot of effort was expended on it.
Forget Doom. Marathon was my first shooter. You will not be forgotten.
Марафон вечен !
Originally all the Bungie games (Marathon, Oni, Myth, Halo) took place in the same universe. There are numerous connections between them all. Since many of the original founders and developers have left over the years, now they try to distance their current franchise from the old ones. So officially there is no connection between Halo and the old Bungie titles, but that's a retcon. The connections are most certainly there.
Oh man! Every time in highschool graphic arts, we would play this at the end of the year we would play this in class!
I love how it's just the one guy saving planets and shit. Just the one guy, never got a name or anything. With Halo, the guy's a Master Chief Petty Officer with the most badass military in the universe, while Marathon's character is just a regular security officer.
There's more to the player character than meets the eye. But like the rest of the story in Marathon, you have to dig a bit for it.
Not only was this the most interesting
game, it was my very first PC game I
ever played back in the mid-90's.
The theme brings back some great
memories, thank you very much. :)
I always got excited when I started up the game and this played.
got into Durandal and Infinity again these two weeks :) great stuff
@PanzerX7 Marathon Infinity was essentially M2 with new scenery, new multi-branch storyline that wrapped up the inconsistencies of M2, a new weapon, new netmaps and bugfixes to the engine.
Holy shit Marathon and Halo have a lot of similarities. Unlike Destiny which has precisely fuck all to do with other Bungie games.
Look up Pathways into Darkness (which happens to be set in the same universe as Marathon)
Pathways is so good.
It's good to see I'm not the only Marathon fan left in the world.
I have a theory that the Precursors in Halo may have to do with the S'pht. Hell, they have to do with the W'rkncacnter (however that is said).
+AJBxxSlayer We may be few but we are still here
Great artwork, possibly one of the best on video games.
Bungie should remake this game
From playing this game as a demo on a Macintosh Performa to then an iMac and now having the entire full trilogy on my MacBook-this is a series that really showed what First-Person Shooters could be, and in a time before Destiny, Halo, Call of Duty, where the only well-known FPS was Doom on the PC, Marathon more than made an impression , and it showed audiences that Doom wasn’t the only game of its caliber, and that the Apple Macs were not to be ignored.
what about BOB
I'm not assimilated
This is my CHILDHOOD game!! I love this game soooo much!!
It’s being revived by bungee
@@jdpatch_5154 Oh I know!! It's not gonna be similar at all, but my favorite game of all time getting a reboot is always awesome!
Thank god you're here!
Marked me as a child, still resonating in my soul
You did a really good job thanks
everyone readdy with the new marathon game????
yeah but i hope its not super colorful and poppy.... there better be a campaign as well
Marathon trilogy - best Sci-Fi FPS 90's :)
New scenarios ( + Aleph One) have turned the universe Marathon into a masterpiece :)
I played this game a long time ago, it was awesome.
Nice intro music too.
played this game all my life since it came out!
bungie forever in my heart
Cool.....
I love the artwork.
BUNGIE OWN marathon has one of the best theme tues in games
I want this to play wherever I go, as my theme song. Played this before I played Halo and love both game franchises :).
Many people feel like that too. I remember playing a fan-made(there are many) hypothetical 4th episode on the Aleph One engine. Don't remember too well, but I think it was called Rubicon X. It was very good, and it supposedly followed the story, so you might want to check it out if you don't know it. It includes alternate story branches, new weapons...
A drug-fueled rave... IN SPACE.
I can't stop listening.
When I was a wee lad, I sat on my dad's lap and pressed the fire button as he used all of the other controls to navigate the levels. I didn't pay any attention to the story or anything like that, but I really need to play these games again.
You can download the entire trilogy and fanmade scenarios for free and legally (Bungie declared it freeware). Just look up "Aleph One Sourceforge" and click on the one that says "Aleph One - Marathon Open Source"
I LOVE YOU MAN!
@UNSC2010 Actually Marty was even in Bungie at this time. The Marathon soundtrack was done by Alex Seropian and the themes for Marathon 2 : Durandal and Marathon Infinity were done by a group known as Power of Seven.
i myself would love it if bungie made a sequel where the security officer and durandal finds out that the Jjaro (an alien race mentioned but never seen) is not extinct but moved to another galaxy.
The best thing bungie did was halo and marathon and I love that they actually made marathon part of halos canon fucking awesome LOVE YOU BUNGIE!!! :D
There are. If you start up the last mission on Reach, the Marathon logo is on the pillar of autumn amongst other things. It's only Halo: Anniversary, Halo 4 and onwards where the marathon logo will not be used.
I was do young when I first played this that years later I wasn’t actually sure if it was real or if I just made it up in my head
I love this game and its song
Ah, my own personal Thermopolye.
They're everywhere!
@1337Ninja3000 That's why he said "To me". It doesn't even necessarily mean direct remake, but he could be meaning atmospherically and spiritually.
Durandal, going over inventory manifests and spots some cryo-tubes: "Hey, my old corpse! This is going to be a wild adventure!"
*A E R O S O L*
i mean that's totally what they're saying right?
+flap I always thought it was "there are stars"
+flap My fingers dug into my rib cage as I tried to gasp for air from laughing.
I think they say "Marathon".
makes sense
Really????????
I can't tell you how many times I've opened Aleph One and get fucking jumpscared by this lol
this game even to this date its fun to play. I also loved it in my chilhood
I'm still hoping they remake all the Marathon games. That would truly be awesome. It'd be even more cool if they made some sequels. If I remember correctly we never find out if Durandal achieved his goal of becoming a god, and I'm pretty sure that it was in fact the main character that somehow survives the closure in the end. That leaves a HUGE gap for Bungie to fill.
Here’s hoping the rumors of a new Marathon game are true !!!!!
Such a powerful menu music! I remember starting up the demo of this from one of the cd-roms that came with pc gamer uk. Such a great, underrated game! The music is nice, it feels like someone remade Rock you like a hurricane by the Scorpions but for starcraft! :D
really good theme but why do they keep talking about Arizona
HAHA I see... they are saying "marathon" but now that you've said that I cant unhear it.
