*Durandal/MJOLNIR 54:* me? I actually killed one so hard, his shame lasted for an eternity, and even though he used all of its might, I prevailed like an unmovable object until he finally died along with Llhowon's sun.
Maybe the real eldritch horror was the AI we met along the way.
And this was the father of HALO. Always remember that Marathon was the real deal.
Direct prequel in all but rights issues. The ending of infinity says it all, you are destiny. Master chief is the soul of the hero that carried on into the next universe when marathons imploded and restarted.

@David Lutz the story was so delightfully deranged by way of the rampant AIs. Durandal really is the best sci-fi antagonist I've ever seen. Just so ridiculously blithe and pithy that it vacillates between horrifying and hilarious.
Porting it to Steam for FREE was a good call. I fr love this series. Can't wait for the 3rd!

This track in particular is basically seared into my mind. It was probably THE first FPS I ever played. Epic cover indeed!
Most engaging FPS for sure. Wolfenstein, Doom, and Duke Nukem had nothing on this series.
I just want this to happen. Imagine this:
It's E3, and it's Bungies turn or something.
They do a little speech about how games are supposed to be fun. They're a form of art. Not much else. They're supposed to put us in the shoes of someone greater. Something like that
Then we get a series of shots around spaceship corridors. Suddenly, we hear a gunshot
Cue the music.
That would be my dream come true, but in reality they are gonna milk Destiny till bankruptcy also the 90's Bungie is no more, all the people that made Marathon have left the company.

I swear reading that terminal i thought the narrator of myth would sound awesome saying all of that in his tone use in narration at the beginning of Myth: FTL
I love this! This gem of an FPS series often gets forgotten when the great shooters of the 90's are discussed. I didn't play through it until many years after becoming a Bungie fan because of the Halo series, but I loved every minute of it.

played the entire Marathon franchise on the Mac Quadra 840AV, the days before I moved to PC.
This series simply draws you into the world of marathon especially the amazing musical soundtrack.
I really don't understand how Bungie doesn't Reboot this marvelous game franchise, with today's technology the marathon franchise will be amazing.
This is a nice rendition of the classic theme. Different enough to hear your unique spin on it, but similar enough that the heart is still beating inside. Well done.

How I discovered Marathon. AndroidArts, their redrawing of the characters. Then I noticed the Bungie connections. All this, circa 2007.
Addendum: I've been a Halo fan since 2001 with the first Halo game, aged 7.

Fantastic remaster! Played a bit of this years ago when I was a kid, borrowed it from the library. The art style and this song stood out most.

Very well done! My hopes are still high of them rebooting the series. Bungie signing on with the new company in China leads me to believe this will happen or eventually it’ll tie to the destiny universe because I think the traveler has a wrkncacnter inside of it.

shaZam if you liked Halo, you’d love Marathon. I played it as a kid and absolutely loved this game. It’s relatively similar to halo as far as the weapons go as well as even some of the AI in the game. The story is pretty sweet and is actually quite challenging to beat on Total Carnage (highest difficulty) if you’re new to the game and don’t exactly know how to beat the levels. There will definitely be a lot of roaming around the maps to figure out how to get by (you have terminals throughout the levels to guide you through the levels); but hey, roaming and exploring the maps is a part of what makes the game what it is. It reminds me a lot of the campaign on Halo 1 and 2 where it doesn’t give you a marker as to where you have to go to finish the level (they changed that in Halo 3). Overall, I’d give the game a solid 9/10. Maybe I’m biased because it was a large part of my childhood and is so nostalgic....but I also legitimately think it’s a great game - it’s a classic for sure. The Marathon series is actually a trilogy, but the second one (the one you’re seeing now) is by far the best out of the 3. That’s almost universally agreed upon by everyone who’s played all 3. Still, I’d give all 3 a shot. Cheers!
@@lukeseropian By far the best out of the 3? It's better than Infinity, but Marathon 1 is an amazing game as well - it's very different, of course, due to its atmosphere, but both are about equal imo. Marathon 1 is also harder imo.
Niels Liljedahl Christensen hey you’re right, it’s all subjective! I did thoroughly enjoy Marathon 1 as well and yes I agree, it is definitely harder in my opinion also. I personally have strong bias towards Durandal because it’s what I mainly grew up on 🤙
@@lukeseropian I probably also played Durandal the most and whenever I was making maps with Forge/Anvil, I would use the Durandal textures instead of the Infinity ones =D

Oh my God, I heard it “Marathon”, not “Marason” as on original Durandal.
If I remember correctly this was the only game of the trilogy that was ported to other systems besides the mac os.

-Simple, interesting design with a lot of interpretations
-Stopped an entire alien invasion in a few fell swoops, then proceeded to destroy their empire, along with a Chaos God
-Possibly mentally ill
-Fans like him because he’s a unique and interesting commentary on playing an FPS game and has a lot of different interpretations
-Pfhor just needed a beacon, are also intimidating as fuck
-Requires no specialized equipment.

In my opinion, Marathon is a game AND trilogy that only needs a remaster instead of the typical reboot. It is a one of a kind saga, and it will lose its charm if it gets remade, end up like a famelic chicken of golden eggs for EA or Craptivision, or end up waiting forever to be released.

Maybe I'm just weird, but it seems peculiar to me that among all these (for lack of a better word) 'stereotypical' 90's FPS games was the predecessor to Halo.
