StarCraft used to be a big family tradition. My dad, grandpa, uncles and cousins all liked playing it together over LAN, and me too. But as we got older, our lives got busier, and we just didn’t have the time…until this last summer. It was just my grandpa, dad and I, but we finally got around to doing an LAN match together after not having done so in several years. It was like my childhood had finally returned for a brief moment…and it was beautiful.
This theme is so... human. In my mind, a picture of people working together towards a common goal pops up with this music. The human struggle. To advance, to innovate, to learn, all within a short amount of time: a human lifetime. This piece is beautiful and metal at the same time

@@rottenpoet6675 You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and your condescending attitude is why no one thumbed up your post. As for myself, I am an actual session musician and recording engineer who does know what he is talking about. There is a big country-music influence in this tune, as well as the metal genre (found in the midi drums, midi bass, and midi electric guitar). It involves a acoustic guitar behind an acoustic with Nashville tuning (sounds like a 12 string) giving off a certain "twang" which replicates American old-school country-music pedal steel licks. Just listen to the intro. When I am talking about "pedal steel country twang" I am referring to country portamento (pitch bending) sounds such as this. ruclips.net/video/5YdHqxTcBfI/видео.html The bending portamento between the acoustic chords is what makes this "cowboy" or "country" or "farmer" or whatever people want to call it. But it is exactly that. American Country (or "cowboy" as some called it) influenced. Why I know this? Other than the fact that I am involved in a modern reproduction of this exact tune as we speak, I have been a musician for over 20 years.

I remember playing starcraft in my sweet childhood and then, being an adult (18) found myself crying a sea an my heart pounding so hard just for hearing this song again... Now I'm 28 but still this song give me goosebumps, it's so epic and fantastic.
I'm amazed how many views this has considering this isn't the only StarCraft music video around. Maybe the quality from extracting from a MPQ was a good idea and perhaps better quality.
There is more effort, love & soul put into this humble little theme than in anything Blizzard has vomited out for the past 7 years. Except Heroes of the Storm, which was actually REALLY good and was a gigantic love letter to Blizzard's franchises and the fans of those franchises that only died because Blizzard got greedy.
I find it hard to explain the feeling the music and the visuals of this game give me. It's not just nostalgia, it's an eery feeling of darkness and horror, a really unique atmosphere unique to this game that I feel like SC2 didn't take on. I'd love a movie about this game. The original. Dark and gritty, this music, eery dark space and horror. Man I wish.
You know whats kind of interesting? Its almost as if Blizzard had this dark atmospheric approach to their games late 90's that did not transfer over AT ALL to the 2000's. Its not just Starcraft and Diablo, but it can also be seen in the background and lore that culminated in the dark story of WC3. But what happened as we moved into the 21st century? First WoW, not exactly a "light-hearted" game by any measure (at least at first), but eventually it seemed to become that way. And Diablo and StarCraft... well we all know how that went, just like you said its as if they lost what made them gritty and dark in the late 20th century, like they lost a chunk of their soul. While WoW felt like a gradual, almost unnoticeable, transition of the franchise, Diablo and StarCraft were hit HARD by this atmospheric change. I wonder if it will be possible for Blizzard to salvage this, to eventually return to the roots of these franchises to figure out what made them so unique and loved rather than the cash grabs they are today in a desperate attempt to appeal to a much wider audience...
@@VEwRaAve Yeah once they went World of Warcraft, everything went Cartoony and Disney-esque. World of Warcraft has a great style but it radically changed what Warcraft looked like, and later impacted both Starcraft and Diablo as the guys largely responsible for that old grit of their older games were long gone by the time anything was greenlit. At least their Cinematics and even the Warcraft movie weren't too bad and bring back some of that grit. (And if only the writing wasn't so bad now).
@@VEwRaAve My friend and I came up with this to explain what happened: "StarCraft used to be about being an alternative to Warhammer 40k. StarCraft 2 was made as an alternative to Star Wars."
I can mostly remember this game with a cold vibe to it. I remember my cold freezing room downstairs because my dad did not care for keeping the house warm other than the damn furnace or whatever because.. its cheaper. The memories with all those cheat codes messing around the game, putting up challenges to myself by turtleing my base with defenses and trying to keep the enemy off.
I remember when Broodwar came out and I got my copy. I was so amazed by the medic's -- they had Autocast Healing! It was the #1 reason I wanted to play Terran.
revolutionary mechanics. Attack move with medics in squad and they stayed and healed marines but marines attack. It amazes me they cant get this mechanic in modern games.

Starcraft was one of the first video games I owned as a kid. Back then, most family computers used external speakers that you had to turn on with a button and you could adjust the volumes with a knob.
Old good times. When games where much different. We all remember childhood times when found cd disk of this amazing game, and spent hours by playing it. Not all games are able to bring such an emotions as starcraft. Still love and play it
I remember back in 2004 when I was 4 years old, watching my dad sit at the family computer playing Starcraft. His matches against the AI always ended with a Battlecruiser death stack, SCV's ready nearby to patch them up with Starports humming away back at base building replacements for any lost in battle. Thus my life of gaming was born.
This song is so good. To be honest, I read a lot of comments from people talking about nostalgia. I never played Stracraft I during its time, I only played it after the HD release recently, but I still come here every now and then to hear this masterpiece. I can only imagine the feelings of having this soundtrack related to a good moment of your life
i used to watch my dad playing this when i were like 6-7 years old(im 32 atm), good times bro, good times. Never its too late for enjoy this game and its wonderful ost
For anyone who wonders why there are so many comments that are in Korean, one of the first ever national eSport leagues was that of StarCraft 1 in South Korea. I'm talking massive televised events in stadiums, millions of viewers, over a decade before it became mainstream to the rest of the world. It was (and still is) a large part of culture over there...
The music in SC1 is 10 times better than SC2 !! "Real strategy lies in turn based games" I love it when some deluded people claim that computer games with a gameplay completely detached from reality - because real life battles do not allow you to play in turns - are the "true" strategy games... Looks like you are better strategist than Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Nelson, Patton, and so on. How can they be compared to thou, if they fought some lousy, real time battles, instead of truly strategic, turn based ones. To be fair, I also know equally deluded people, who claim that button mashing is the real strategy. This is their main sophism, "justifying" how games like Warcraft 3 are supposedly better strategies than StarCraft - because they totally rely on clicking on every single f*cking unit and using its every single special ability and that's... that's f*cking "strategy" to those guys. Right. Then - again - real world military leaders didn't know a thing about strategy, if they did not use any magical abilities on battlefield and run up to every single soldier to give him orders. God save us from idiots. They are the ones who truly ruin the world.

I remember playing starcraft in my sweet childhood and then, being an adult (18) found myself crying a sea an my heart pounding so hard just for hearing this song again...
Now I'm 28 but still this song give me goosebumps, it's so epic and fantastic.
Stop crying. It's gae. It will also unnecessarily strain the water filter systems in your marine exo suit!
I'm amazed how many views this has considering this isn't the only StarCraft music video around. Maybe the quality from extracting from a MPQ was a good idea and perhaps better quality.
People listening on RUclips don't mind audio quality, unless it's utter garbage.
Thank you for the upload! The nostalgia waves are crashing all over me

@@KowalDWR Was just a guess as I can't see another reason why since there's so many others out there lol. I'm grateful nonetheless.
this is the first one to show up for me so can't say about other uploads, but the sound quality here is great.
There is more effort, love & soul put into this humble little theme than in anything Blizzard has vomited out for the past 7 years.
Except Heroes of the Storm, which was actually REALLY good and was a gigantic love letter to Blizzard's franchises and the fans of those franchises that only died because Blizzard got greedy.
sadly true. their pure survival were on stake with this game. that's a huge motivation, not unlike in the last 7 years. 😢

@@mapro3948 overwatch 1 was good, you can't deny that
I find it hard to explain the feeling the music and the visuals of this game give me.
@@VEwRaAve My friend and I came up with this to explain what happened:
"StarCraft used to be about being an alternative to Warhammer 40k. StarCraft 2 was made as an alternative to Star Wars."
@@VEwRaAve I also prefer dark and gritty atmosphere but did you just imply that SC2 is a cash grab? The game is fantastic. Maybe I misunderstood.

"Real strategy lies in turn based games"
I love it when some deluded people claim that computer games with a gameplay completely detached from reality - because real life battles do not allow you to play in turns - are the "true" strategy games...
