It's 2015 and I'm still convinced that Forge for Marathon (not Halo) was the single greatest map editor ever made. It had an incredible amount of depth and allowed for users to create entire Total Conversions of the game, but was also super easy to get into for beginners, even kids. I made lots of maps for Marathon as a child but they only started getting remotely good when I was older. I've never found another great game with a perfect map editor like it, but I hope I do someday. EDIT: In retrospect I was a little over-exuberant here; Forge clearly had a handful of usability problems. I just thought it was super simple to get a mental map of the program and create simple levels with it, which should be the first goal for any level-editor-creator, in my opinion.

I remember back when I was a kid, a friend of my mother's had a computer (Remember this is back when not every household had a computer) and I would watch him play this game and it was so awesome.
@Kestared Well, the Marathon was a Martian moon that was converted into a huge-ass colony ship, then it was made to go colonize Tau Ceti before it was attacked by the Pfhor, saved by the Security Officer, and then destroyed as Durandal stole you away and put you in cryo so he could use you when he got to Lh'owon.
@Cobra1098 I believe that being undead or rebuilt is implying that the hero from Pathways Into Darkness (the prequel to the marathon series) had his body recycled to become this incredible warrior. You could be anything really but in all honesty it makes alot of plotline sense to be the PID character than someone else.

@Bandfred Infinity is no dream. It is the Security Officer going through different realities trying to stop the creature that was released at the end of Marathon: Durandal. The "Electric Sheep" levels happen when the SO tries another reality to see if he can set things right.

@roboguy75 Play all of them, but definitely start with the first one. My first marathon game was Durandal for the Xbox 360 Arcade, and I couldn't really get into it. I just recently started playing them on Aleph One instead and beat the first one, and it was freakin' awesome. I'm now playing the arcade version to get through that one (but with the older graphics; I like them much better).

there IS NO PLOT CONNECTION. the easter eggs are simply refrences. bungie themselves even said marathon and halo have nothing to do with each other. want proof? in the years marathon took place is the years after halo took place. in marathon, the Phfor are the first aliens ever encountered by humans. its immpossible for this added on with the fact that halo years take place before marathon years give plain proof marathon and halo have no plot connection.

Forge was so incredibly easy to use! Much more accessible than any map editor for Doom, and certainly more than Mapster (the Duke 3D editor).
Halo Infinite's forge is looking mighty promising.

Infinity is way too hard for me. And some of the levels are confusing.
Infinity is very confusing at times, both in story and levels. But I spoiled the story and it's very cool, so I'll finish it =)

there IS NO PLOT CONNECTION. the easter eggs are simply refrences. bungie themselves even said marathon and halo have nothing to do with each other. want proof? in the years marathon took place is the years after halo took place. in marathon, the Phfor are the first aliens ever encountered by humans. its immpossible for this added on with the fact that halo years take place before marathon years give plain proof marathon and halo have no plot connection.
