    The title of this video should be renamed, "Why American Tennis is Struggling?".

      Mrreciprocat Well, Yes, you're right. Thankfully, the Williams sisters are still hugely successful but w/o them American tennis is seriously hurting.

      Well, after Serena maybe we have Coco. But I don't see any other Americans male or female tagging along.

      If the popularity of tennis falls in the US, then prize money and oturnaments can take a hit for those tournaments.
      The only tournament left in California is Indian Wells.
      Furthermore if we have a dropoff in talen in US Tennis we could lose out on great players.

    BJK was such a poor sport, especially when the younger generation came along and started beating her. Watch her Net handshake on youtube after losing. She also had a great deal of resentment because the woman after her started making serious money and she acted like she was the one who made that possible. She helped start the first women circuit but it was with the help of 8 other women you never hear their names. It was the OPEN era that brought money into the sport......not BJK. I am sick that they named the US Open tennis center after her.

    The Williams sisters have contributed greatly to tennis but to say Serena has revolutionized tennis is wrong Graf ,seles ,hinges and many more have contributed to tennis greatly lets acknowledge their effort and hard work as well

    Why is American tennis struggling more like....Tennis is in a better place than it's ever been with Federer, Nadal, Djko, Wawrinka and now the younger generation of Krygios, Shapalov, Chung, Rublev etc. but of course BJK doesn't give a damn about mens tennis.

    The real reason tennis is struggling is because it is all about how great the equipment is instead how great the player is. If the equipment were to be limited to only going to a certain level then we would see much different things happening. People are going to not like me saying this, but I think BJK is biased towards any minority; gay, lesbian, black, hispanic etc. How easily she forgets Graf in her comments. And others. And I am a gay man. It is obvious to me that she has that bias.

      Tennis is struggling in America, not in France, Great Britain, Russia, Spain and many more. First reason: Tennis has become the game of serve. Spectators don't enjoy sitting around watching aces and service winners. They'd rather watch a soccer game that ends up at 2-3. At least those athletes aren't just walking around picking up balls off the surface beneath them. Second reason: No longer are the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) willing to air the now unpopular sport of tennis. Too bad, because they missed airing the matches of the decade at the 2017 Australian open finals.

      +Timothy Smith .. Australian open is the only slam that's not on networks. the semis and finals of the other slams are on the networks

Lesbian

    The problem with all the fans Serena and Venus have brought into the game is they are just as fouls as Serena and Venus. Luckily, they will leave the sport when when the Williams sisters do.

  • @carl1095

    The way she described Venus and Serena was kinda cringe worthy. The way she sees people of color kind of shone through. "They showed that people of color can be role models for all of 'us'". Who said they can't? "They're articulate", we all know what white people mean by that.

    • @nambelas

      Carl Darl I’ll give you the articulate comment . It is an adjective that has been used to describe educated black people which is a racist description in the past . the way she described the William sisters being role models for all people is correct . They are the second and third number ones in tennis history ( Althea Gibson was the first ) and are role models for all people regardless of race . bJK has. Even fighting for equality her whole life and her actions speak louder than using articulate in a sloppy way . She didn’t mean anything by it . There’s not a racist bone in her body . First thing she said when taken to the local recreational tennis facility at age of 10 was “ where is everyone else ?” Meaning only white people were on the courts . She deserved every one’s respect .

    I gave up watching because of the grunting and outright screaming. It’s obnoxious and permissive. Remember how Monica Seles was treated? Yeah, I know. Mute the television. I’ve tried and it’s not the same. Either make it illegal or find a way to eliminate it from the broadcast.

    She said Serena Williams is the greatest since Martina Navratilova ... I guess she puts Graf below Martina ...

    • @88feji
      @88feji 7 лет назад

      Maybe to a certain extent she thinks that Martina Navratilova is a great player than Graf ... after all Martina was dominant not just in singles but also in doubles which is extremely difficult to do, hardly any player have the energy to do so in the modern era ..

    • @nambelas
      @nambelas 6 лет назад

      For BJK, of course Navratilova is greater. Graf doesn't really serve as an inspirational figure, despite her greatness.

    • @TheVerbalVolley
      @TheVerbalVolley 6 лет назад

      Billie said that Steffi was the greatest singles player of all time, but that Martina was the greatest all-around player -- singles, doubles and mixed -- of all time. She said that a few years ago. I think that now she thinks Serena is the best ever.

    Billie Jean King has got a big head and big mouth (still) and just loves the sound of her own voice. She thinks she is the world's greatest authority on all things tennis. She isn't! She was always a bad loser and it was always that she played poorly, never that her opponent played better. She employed gamesmanship and unsportsman like behaviour. She, alongside Evert, has also tried to rubbish Margaret Court's record (H2H 21-13 to Court) generally. I think most of King's GS titles were gained when Court was on maternity leave. This clip shows, as ever, that King still likes talking.

    • @theexmann
      @theexmann 5 лет назад

      Court has ruined her own reputation with her bigoted comments. And, yes, her AO titles were won mostly against no name players back then because the top players went maybe 2-3 times during their whole career because it was a logistical nightmare.

    • @maxipaz5597
      @maxipaz5597 4 года назад

      Regardless she as great for the game, had some absorbing battles with Court, aEvert

  • @lenwelch2195
    @lenwelch2195 6 лет назад +1

    I agree with most of what she says but she allows her agenda to creep n to her commentary about tennis. Yes Graf took the $ and ran , giving nothing , absolutely nothing back in to the game that BJK helped make her rich . BJK forgets that tennis is entertainment , people were not buying tickets to watch her play wade or court , they filled the stands when Chrissie came along . W/o Chrissie and connors there would’ve never been a tennis boom .BJK was a relentless competitor showing that men did not have a lock on that , Graf was a better athlete than Serena or Martina . She was the fastest and hit the ball the hardest considering the graphite racket she played with , we owe BJK a lot , not just everything . Court padded her record with 11 Australian wins beating a local Jane Lehane - her ugly mouth has basically erased any ones motivation to keep her in the discussion for greatest ever - hell even a 15 yr old Evert beat her in 1970 just weeks after court won the grand slam ( court was in her peak ) the new rackets have ruined the game - instead of a chess game requiring skill and guile where personal attributes such as mental focus , courage , determination are needed , these big women whale on the ball for power , ugh , borefest for the thinking person

    Afford to come to a match? Is she joking? Let's say a kid is juiced after seeing a match and says that is what I want to do. Now , can they afford rackets, strings, tennis lessons, tournament fees, sneakers, hotel, airfare, and etc.! Come out and see the professionals play my ass!!! She mention nothing about the cost and the millions of dollars the USTA waste annually instead of supporting players at the grassroots levels. I say Bullshit Billie Jean!!!

      Adrian Brown Anne Jones, who was another great player from that era, also said something similar. She said Billie Jean had done some great things for women's tennis, but a lot of it was motivated by self interest.

    • @redlady935
      @redlady935 7 лет назад +1

      Adrian Brown She's actually quite humble. She always says that the new generations are better than she was and ofcourse there was some self interest involved. If a man was being paid 12 times the amount for a job I was doing the same then I think it's fair to complain. It wasn't just self interest. She had a lot to loose potentially in that match with Riggs.

    • @96actress

      T H self interest isn't bad. It's good. I don't know why you're portraying it as something to be ashamed of.

    • @TheVerbalVolley
      @TheVerbalVolley 6 лет назад

      Billie Jean has said that what she did benefit from some of the causes she espoused, but that was only because the women had absolutely NOTHING until she became the voice of the sport and took up the cause of women's tennis in particular, and tennis itself in general. She knew that her advocacy would make it even BETTER for the NEXT generation, and each subsequent generation, and she lauds that fact. She was suspended two or three times for "militant acts" by the US(L)TA, for actions that would be considered as minor today, but weren't in the dark ages of the 1960s and early 1970s. She was barred from being ranked by the US(L)TA in both 1968 and 1969 for those so called "militant acts". She would have been ranked #1 in the USA in both of those years had she not been banned from being ranked. Billie really doesn't talk much about herself at all, if you take the time to really LISTEN to what she has to say...and she has sage words of wisdom, not only for women's tennis, but for men's tennis as well, along with all of sports in general.
