A tip: After prepping peppers turn them upside down in a baking dish of 1/2 inch water and bake at 400 degree's for 20 minutes then fill and bake until done. Perfect every time.👌
Excellent tip. I’ve cooked pepper for 30-40 minutes and still had them hard. I have an issue with his 20 minute directions. 20 mins Pre stuffed and 20 mins. Stuffed, sounds about right!
I’ve made something Greek-like (Hellenistic?) in stuffed pepper land in the past. They had lamb, rice, lemon juice, mint, parsley and feta or goat cheese (probably some other stuff) and were topped with Italian bread crumbs. Yum yum they were. My mother hated them. Some people!

Did not realize they needed to be par cooked before they were stuffed. That really should be mentioned in the video. I followed the directions to the letter and ended up with rather raw peppers with delicious filling to serve for Christmas.
I make stuffed peppers often for my kiddo. Around Halloween we cut little pumpkin faces into the side of the peppers. Really excited to try this recipe!
Mix pepper mix, fill, peppers, top with tomato juice, in pan mirco but place lid sideways so don't explode, miro 25min, perfect each time. Lid not fully on sideways always very hot. Peppers cook perfectly

I have never made stuffed peppers from precooked filling. And I have never added meltable cheese in the filling (only grated parm). But these looked amazing! I could smell all the aromas just watching you. And my mother always used green bell peppers but I prefer the red and orange. I also make a tomato sauce to pour over which really helps soften those yummy peppers. I definitely am going to make some your way and see if my family likes them more! They probably will 😂 Thank you for this, Preppy John! ❤

I adored my mom's stuffed peppers growing up, but memories and recipes become faded and lost over years. Out of all the possible recipe variations for this dish, I am so happy that you've given us yours. I will make them this week! Bless you, sweet man!
I made those stuffed peppers, and my mind was blown. As you said, John, you gave us the perfect basic recipe for adding anything to it. I added eggplant to caramelize with the onions, various spices for heat, and sweet baby corn. Those peppers were so good! I did end up cooking them longer to make them more like the mushy ones my mom used to make... but they were a big hit that night! I had some leftover filling I wanted to bulk up into something for next meal - sloppy Joe's? Burritos or tacos? I went by instinct and when it was done, I had accidentally made some really tasty chili. It was so good, nobody cared to even wait for the cornbread. Next time I make this recipe, along with the eggplant and using ground lamb, I'll add kidney beans, bits of fig, pomegranate seeds, and middle Eastern spices, topped with chèvre. Thank you, John, for giving me the tools that helped to restore faith in myself in the kitchen. During a long period of depression, when I'd stopped cooking all together, your videos cheered me up and fueled my imagination with possibilities. When I finally was ready to take on the kitchen again, it was discouraging because I burned a lot of things, made poor choices in flavor combinations... you name it, it went wrong. But I didn't give up, and it was your channel that brought me around. Cooking and baking have brought me some of my greatest joys in life, and I am so grateful to have that back now.
My mom passed last April and she never wrote anything down when it came to recipes. This is why I'm going to start doing that so my kids will know how to make my dinners. Anyway her stuffed peppers and her meatball soup were some of my favorites. I'm trying this recipe tomorrow or this Sunday, I'll edit if it was like her's. And tana my mom's were mushy too 😂. I learned something, John. Never made stuffed peppers but if I were going to wing it I would have been wondering if the rice goes in raw or cooked; now I know it's cooked.😋
People make it both ways as well with the beef. I use cooked rice and raw ground beef and I add an egg and whatever seasonings and cheese toppers you want, then bake.
One of my childhood dishes. My mom would make these often whenever we came back home from school and would taste amazing. Loved cooking them myself years later. Brings back memories :)
100% agree with the parsley comment. One of my favorite dishes we made in the Banquet Kitchen at the Paris Resort in Las Vegas was a Parsley Salad with Cracked Wheat, Diced Tomato, and a simple Olive Oil and Lemon Vinaigrette. About 85% chopped, fresh parsley, and 100% light and refreshing.
i checked through some of the comments and apparently I'm the only one whose peppers were not done. I put them back in for 20 more minutes, but the filling was overdone by then. I'd say i was disappointed but I'm used to it cuz i'm a terrible cook, yet i follow the instructions faithfully. i guess i just don't have the knack for it
You need to par cook the unstuffed peppers first. 20 mins upside down, unstuffed in an inch of water. Then drain, stuff and cook a further 20 minutes, as per the recipe.
What flavor profile would go well with raisins and slivered almonds? I'm thinking ras al hanout? Or something else? I love meat with an underlying cinnamon and tomato flavor... Help? Also, what fresh herb goes well with almonds and raisins?

I couldn’t make this recipe . I don’t have a trivet . Just kidding I picked a dozen bell peppers , got homemade tomato sauce and went at it . Delicious
Stuffed bell peppers and tomatoes are a great way to use up items that have become stale. You can use stale bread, cheese that has dried out a bit, and the ends of a roast that you're a bit tired of and has dried out and turn that into a filling for peppers and tomatoes and it's fantastic. I also had a friend make me quinoa stuffed bell peppers one time and it was one of the best things I ever ate and I am not a vegetarian.
My husband never liked stuffed peppers until I made them in my instant pot. You’re recipe sounds perfect. Pressure cook them for a few minutes, and then top with cheese, pop under the broiler. The peppers are tender, but not mushy. Yum.
Made this today with a couple modifications, everything came out so good! Thanks again John! You're videos are always so great and so helpful for cooking things for the first time.
I've been thinking of making these. I'm thinking 1/2 spicy italian sausage and 1/2 sweet italian. My mother used to make them with green peppers, and that's fine but the orange and red would probably be better. Thanks for the video!
Cooking garlic lessens the nutrition of the spice. So I cook it in the food anyway and add raw crushed garlic to it afterwards for it's medicinal purpose.
My husband has been asking if I could make stuffed peppers. His Mom did. I love your recipes and love watching you cook. You’re one of my favourite cooks to watch. This looks amazing. I’m going to make it for him I can’t wait.

Ok, just finished making these for dinner tonight. Had my husband taste the filling and he kept coming back, had to shoo him out of kitchen before I had no filling left. 😂 Decided to just fill 3 peppers and the other half of mixture we are going to have on top of cooked spaghetti squash. Going to try ground chicken next time.
I make stuffed peppers with ham, rice, onion, cheddar cheese, and tomato sauce. Delicious! You have inspired me to make some peppers this coming week. 🫑🫑🫑
I just watched Iron Chef ( the original in Japan) and the ingredient was bell pepper and the contestants were an Italian chef and Iron Chef Italian and was surprised to see neither side made a traditional stuffed pepper...
My mom would make a basic stuffed pepper and ground beef, my grandad's victory garden tomatoes canned by Grandma and Mom. She'd saute onion, garlic and big chunks of mushrooms sauteed in buttahhhh, so we could taste each delectable mushroomish morsel. Add salt, fine ground black pepper to the mix and......raw Minute Rice. (sigh). Okay, don't judge. This was the 60's, and I didn't even know what real rice tasted like 'til the 70's. If you think about it, the liquid cooks directly into the instant rice, and if you can handle the texture, it tasted fabulous. That was the "American" version. Then there was the beef Stroganoff version. But that's another comment.
I just made these with a few differences (I didn’t have parsley 😅lol) and omg it tasted so good. Thank you so much! P.S - your hack with the pepper tops helped too!

I'm making this now following you step by step..it smells great and I'm excited!
Just wondering...2 questions
#1 do you have a cookbook
#2 how did you learn to cook, your mom?
Well thank you for you help...BTW I read this freezes great so I'll be freezing some.🎉❤
Was so happy to see stuffed pepper video, definitely going to add these to my list. Since finding your channel your recipes are my only source now! Love watching, you are so down to earth.
Thanks you are a real chef, your procedure is more delicious!!! Thanks for sharing
I like the peppers to be mushy. I would have to cook them a bit before stuffing.
That's a good tip if you like them extra soft!
I make stuffed peppers with ham, rice, onion, cheddar cheese, and tomato sauce. Delicious! You have inspired me to make some peppers this coming week. 🫑🫑🫑
Raisins and almonds in stuffed peppers? That's just as bad as raisins in coleslaw! 😖🤢
❤ I learned sooooo much outside of learning...how to make stuffed peppers ❤❤❤ Thanks!!!
She'd saute onion, garlic
and big chunks of mushrooms sauteed in buttahhhh, so we could taste each delectable mushroomish morsel.
One of my faves! Do you ever steam or blanch the peppers before baking?

I just made these with a few differences (I didn’t have parsley 😅lol) and omg it tasted so good. Thank you so much!
P.S - your hack with the pepper tops helped too!
I love how you explain everything so easy ❤! Saludos desde Puerto Rico🇵🇷
For more flavor, use 3/4 lbs of ground beef and 1/2 lbs of ground pork, substitute a small can of tomato paste and add some chille flakes😋
PLEASE give us a recipe for Swedish Meatballs! I have my own version, which is great, but I'm sure yours will be great, too. I will share mine in a later post.
So triple the garlic! Thanks for the recipe I can't wait to try it!
EXACTLY!
Thanks for the recipe. Making a north african version with lamb, cumin, cinnamon, spring onions and dried plums (Marrocan raisins?). Hope it tastes good :)
I like your garlic philosophy!
TITLE ERROR.... EAY?
VS EASY....
Fixed thanks!
At last a savory dish. Fish, meat, poultry, lamb, pork. Please. Most of us don’t spend much time eating desserts-certainly not making them. Certainly you do not feed your children all these sweets?
Mmmmmmm, onion and garlic! Italian perfume. Yumm
Raisins and Almonds in stuffed peppers?!?!? Yeah, I'm out. ✌🏾
Any idea about the draining the grease from the ground beef? Mine is 85% lean and produced too much grease
Looks delicious. I love stuffed peppers
I made this recipe and it was great!! My husband is not in stuffed veggie but he loved it. Can I have your recipe for cabbage rolls please? Thanks cams happy holidays
Looks delicious but how do you eat the pepper? Or is the pepper just serving as a cup?
