Plus, as a bonus to that Aztec legend about finding the eagle fighting a snake on a cactus, that can be found depicted in both the Mexican flag and coat of arms! Pretty cool.
The Hopi Pueblo in Arizona go on spiritual pilgrimages all over. I met an Eagle dancer Hopi who went on a run from Arizona to Mexico city. When he got there the indigenous population was doing a dance by a pyramid. The Eagle dancer Hopi asked what was going on and they said that it was a prophecy that day that an eagle would dance on top of the pyramid. So the eagle dancer went up and did a dance on top of the pyramid. It was some kind of cool culmination of prophecies between two people's who weren't in communication with each other but had a moment of serendipity.
"my lipgloss IS poppin" is the best thing I've ever heard you say. Love your content, and never expected this reference. Thanks for the uploads, they bring me loads of joy and I did start picking up fountain pens from Amazon and Goulet pens thanks to your recommendations and really appreciate your candid takes. Cheers and thanks again buddy!
Peter, without that first page of the text block being glued to the end pages you wouldn’t have a case bound book. Skipping that page is exactly what you should do. Love chilling with your vibe. Thanks for uploading, you help my anxiety. Have a great day.
I'm Mexican and I've been told that story countless times, and of course always found it quite uninteresting, but listening to you telling it with such wonder was amazing, like being able to see another perspective I also love ur art so, thanks :>
I get bummed out when I feel the "drawing mojo" or "the zone" coming on and it's about a half hour before I need to go to bed. I'm like "damn, should I just call in to work tomorrow? 'can't make it in today, gotta draw'"
Really enjoy the way you light and frame your shots. Also appreciate the lack of unnecessary jump cuts and digital fake zooms that are so common across youtube
Another inspiring video, thank you. Also, I love the story/history of the Aztecs and the Abelam. I find such stories fascinating. It's why I loved ancient history. I miss going to school and learning about different cultures/societies. Thank you for sharing!
If you’re interested in the cultures of New Guinea you may like the bits about the Kula Ring. It’s a giant circle they travel and trade jewelry and yams and all kinds of cool ritual.
Great to see a new upload Peter, plus fascinating story. I recently got back into drawing encouraged by your videos but then fell into a state of inertia. Thankfully the inspiration is returning again.... useless to force it!🤗
Peter, thank you so much for sharing this first drawing in your new sketch book. I loved your story! Parts of it, how you told it made me laugh hysterically! 🤣 The fist phrase that gave me the laughs is when you said, "Virginal Monks in a 'Yam Cult', tending 10 foot yams". Oh my Lord? Is not History a riot sometimes? The other thing you said was when, "The people paid hommage\worship to the woman who had her head cut off. They would fall down and let themselves splat - I guess they were target practising?". I had to rewind to listen to those parts once more...LOL? Oh our Peter Deligdisch, you should try your hand at Toast Masters and give these speeches. They are priceless. (We love you too man!) Also, I feel you were giving me some much needed encouragement when you said, "If you fall off of the creating art wagon, no matter how long it has been, get back on it!" For me, that is exactly where I am at. In the mid 70s when I was in middle school I took art class two years in a row as my electives class. I am glad I did because my teacher was amazing and taught me so much. I did A LOT of watercolor and ceramics back then. My art seemed rather epic to me because many of my classmates would compliment me just starring at my art. My teacher told me I might consider it as my work - being an Artist. I have in some forms. But never for profit. I gave away my art projects in class as gifts. One to my father and one to my then boyfriend who actually was in the Hessian Motocycle Club in southern CA. Your encouragement made this era of time in my life come rushing back like it was yesterday. Positive vibes. AND, I have recently started to Watercolor again. So thank you Peter for that also. You are such a gift I feel Sir. I am looking forward to your next video and you sharing your house builds from your class. How very fun that will be to hear about. ♡♡♡ P.S. Yes, I missed you!! 😎
man I've been skipping past your videos for months.. years maybe. But still was subscribed to you from all the time back when you were going in a new apartment 5 years ago! Seeing your videos in the feed made me think "huh Peter made it past this number of subscriber, he seems to be doing good. That's great". Hope you doing well and the success of this channel brings you the happiness and fullfilness you want in your life
If you look into bookbinding, how to do it, for hardcover books, the first page is always going to be like that. The paper glued to the inside of the front and back cover has to have part of it glued to the first page of the text block (all the pages of the book) or it won't stay in. I suppose you could glue that whole page down instead of just part of that page being stuck together. Or you can fold the page so it lays flat. You know how some nice books have really nice designed papers inside the covers? Like maps or designs or marbled papers or something? There's a name for those pages I can't recall at the moment
Peter I love your art so much but I definitely will never forget your spaghettio microwave justification. I did eventually learn the reason we don't (shouldn't) microwave metal is it can reflect the waves in the microwave making them act in ways we don't expect, making it potentially dangerous, but it seems the spaghettios are safe enough due to your demonstration
Maybe that grid paper that came with the notebook, plus the thinner paper, plus the pen not feathering is all designed for People who do calligraphy. Like put the grid paper under the sheet you're writing on for guidelines on where to write neatly? Good to know
Hullo Peter, I enjoy watching your videos. You are truly inspirational and a very good story teller! I am somewhat reminded of JAZZA’S illustration that featured a gentleman who was truly the best storyteller. I have enjoyed watching your videos for quite a while and I appreciate how you put forth a positive and joyful attitude about drawing and life in general! Thank you sir. I hope you continue to create and share your art journey with us. Please take care, be safe and enjoy the rest of the week!
Thank you for this video, it’s been lingering in my mind since you posted it and because of that it motivated me to pick up a pencil again after about a year and continue with an order that my cousin placed with me also about a year ago. Think I never drew because of the guilt I felt for procrastinating on it. So thanks Peter ✌️
I stumbled on you channel and now I'm hooked. I love this style. I don't do it, but I love it. I have so many ideas rattling around in my head, it's nice to see your process. Do you know at the outset what the final piece will look like? Also, the lip gloss application was hilarious.
I know you don’t use much colour but you should draw on one side of the page in colour and then use what you see on the other side of the page to make a drawing with black and see how the two pictures turn out.
I struggle to fill up one sketchbook the one I use regular paperchase blank notebook. I have A4 size proper sketchbook mainly use to test colour palette or ideas. I go through lots of notebook because I do a lot of reflective journal. What you do is use technical automatic clicker pencils on other side of the page. I'm doing little bit of interior design myself.
I looked up the Abelam people, that is very interesting to dig into (no pun intended) but WOW, those masks really are ornate! Thank you for sharing all of your findings as well as your art and ponderings Peter, I feel so much calmer after watching your videos.
I'm drawing too while listening about Mexican mythology. You actually pronounce certain ancient names such as Teonochtitlán quite well! With Coatlicue (Koh-Ah-Tlee-Koo-Eh) you still need a little bit of practice but the intention is what counts :). Probably the name you were looking for related to the god of the death is Mictlantecuhtli, he comes from the Mictlán. I'm glad you enjoyed the legends from my country. There are a lot of other fun stories such as Tláloc, the god of rain, causing a huge flood around the 1960's because they separated him from the statue of his wife (Chalchiuhtlicue) to take his image to Mexico City. However, many people think to this day that the statue that was taken to Mexico City is in fact Chalchiuhtlicue herself.
Oh and....Zebra in general it's my FAVOURITE pen company as of late. There metal permanent marker that's refillable is just amazing.... there fountain pen is just perfect.... and there "regular " mechanical pencils, ballpoint and gel pens are the best bang for your buck and just love the metal feel of just about all there products! I need to get another fountain pen... long story... and I just seen they have a collapsible EDC style pen that is something I been looking for an ccd never thought to see if my favorite company Zebra had it.
I wish someone would send you a Zen Art sketchbook. I’m dying to see the expression on your face when you sniff it 😂. It would be such a great video. It’s an awesome sketchbook for pen & ink. It also looks very cool but the smell is so odd. I mean it gets less but it’s still there after 2 months.
First I have to thank you for saying the new sketchbook paper is a bit thin and you can only draw on one side - this is one of my bugbears and means I can watch the rest of the video without having terrible urges to rush off and buy YET ANOTHER SKETCHBOOK. So yeah. Thank you so much. 💕😂
Ok first off, I heard crocodile Dundee’s voice, “that’s not a knife, this is a a knife.” When you opened the sketchbook. 😂 Secondly, watching you apply the lipgloss….priceless. Lastly, RUclips suggested you to me today and I’m so happy they did. You’re incredibly talented and inspiring. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Awesome I’m looking for a new sketchbook atm I filled my last and I want to buy a nicer one this time! Any recommendations? The Aztec story sounds crazy!
A 10ft yam!!! I googled them and these Abelam yam masks are super cool. Next search, how to make an Abelam yam mask. It’s really fun to say too :) Good to see ya Peter!
Last time i watched you was a couple of years ago when my sister showed my family when you ate that ink from a pen. I think it was a pilot ball point pen 07 idk
At first I thought that was a blue moleskin and I was very jealous cus I never see blue but let’s seeeee anyways I’m down for stories you have learned:)
Peter: In these sketchbooks, I can only draw on one side of each page. Also Peter: Proceeds to attach a new piece of paper to the sketchbook to fulfill his needs. What a legend!
You should use the 1st page as a reference with corresponding numbers to each page documenting which pen/ink you have used for each drawing... You would of course need to number each drawing you do 🙂

I looked up the statue to look at it, here it is if others want to look too:

Every day's a good day when Peter uploads.
This is beyond true
Agree!
One day he’s gonna upload when world war 3 starts and then this comment
will be tested to its limits
Damn that lip gloss really does suit you! Also thanks for the pep talk about creating art. I really needed that :)
The pep talk helped me too..I haven't done any art in years..but yeah im still an artist...I too am I guess waiting for the right time.
@@technoraptor7778 The right time is NOW! Go for it!

If you wanted to do a series of Lesser Known Cultural Stories with Peter, I would enjoy that immensely.
Peter is so peaceful. That’s why I love him
Hi Peter! 🌞. I recently learned that weird glued first page is called a "fly page."
I'm Mexican and I've been told that story countless times, and of course always found it quite uninteresting, but listening to you telling it with such wonder was amazing, like being able to see another perspective
I also love ur art so, thanks :>
Nice to see the channel continuing to grow. Looks like a few thousand subs in the past month. Let's get Peter to 1M subs!

We love you peter!! Thank you for gracing us with your calming nature. You make the tough times easier.
havent been drawing much lately, I really needed to hear you say that that's okay. Much love Peter
Love how the drawing turned out looking both so mechanical and tree-like!
Your content always brings me great joy thank you

Yeah I learned some about that too, in the Trobriand Islands! They trade bracelets and necklaces in different and specific directions around the ring
