Easy recipe for people who aren't sure how to cook and are struggling, or need something super easy. Works with salmon or chicken. I'm typing this from memory, just to emphasize what a simple go-to this is. Kitchen supplies needed: sheet pan, knife, and oven Ingredients: 1 lb yellow or sweet potatoes, dealer's choice 1 cup broccoli or brussels sprouts, dealer's choice, frozen is fine 2 chicken breasts or 4 chicken thighs or equivalent weight of salmon (e.g. 0.8lbs salmon) Seasoning for protein/vegetables Directions: 1) Preheat your oven to 425 F. If you have convection, use convection oven mode. If you don't, it's totally fine. 2) Scrub dirt off of potatoes. 3) Cut potatoes into cubes. 4) Toss potatoes (and your vegetables if they are frozen) in 1.5 Tbsp olive oil and seasoning of choice (salt/pepper/whatever). 5) Oil the sheet pan. 6) Put the potatoes (and frozen veggies) on one side of the sheet pan and roast in the oven for 8-11 minutes. Remove from oven. 7) If cooking chicken, cut into strips. For both chicken and salmon, season with salt, pepper, and other toppings of choice (I like to add tiny pats of butter to salmon), and add to the other side of the sheet pan with non-frozen vegetables tossed in 0.5 Tbsp olive oil. 8) Roast for another 8-11 minutes until the potatoes are soft when poked with a fork and the meat is finished. Chicken will temp at 165 F when finished or will be completely opaque. Salmon will flake easily with a fork when finished.
Peter if you have an over, then you have a broiler. If you broil you want to really pay attention to it. Like a chuck steak broils quickly. Minute Rice has microwavable wild and brown rice. That goes well with a chuck steak. If you have a a bottom draw in your oven; sometimes a broiler pan in this draw. And if you like veggies, a lot of frozen ones zap quickly and easily. Just read the back to make sure not loaded with salt. Good luck. You can do this!
Enjoyed this video, Peter, and the final drawing framed looks so nice!!! I think it's sooo wonderful that you're this enthused about getting into cooking!!! Excited for you!!! Wishing you lots of kitchen fun and the joy of learning!!! 😊🤗
That drawing is gorgeous. One of my favs. I would buy bedsheets with that design. Between this one and that other one, I would say your skills have leveled up recently.
Check your oven, most have a broil option on it, which is just using the heat source on the top of the oven instead of the height source at the bottom being circulated around.
hi peter i love your videos, so happy to hear youre getting into cooking. I also live alone and i still find cooking and baking incredibly satisfying and fulfilling. excited to hear how it goes, good luck soldier i believe in you :)
Hey Peter, how have you been? How is school going? have been heard of goulet pens or anderson pen, i love watching their podcast on youtube. have you ever seen them?
I am in love with this one ♥️ I have followed you for ages. Many years ago I bought one of your books, I’m fascinated with the kind of drawings you end up making. This one in particular I adore.
I have a super easy recipe!! Egg drop soup! Literally all you need is an egg or two water and your seasonings of choice. I like adding veggies and spam to mine but all you got to do is water down the egg a little, boil the water, then stir while you're pouring in ur watered down egg so it doesn't clump up!
Oh, yeah, most modern ovens in homes come with a broiler. Look on your stove and you might see it. All it does is ignite the heating coils on the top instead of the bottom. They also can't be controlled as precisely with temperature. You usually just have low, medium and high.
I also love Ferris Wheel Press ink. Peter Moss Green is a great shade for drawing. Great video, Peter! p.s. Your regular kitchen oven has a broiler. ( or at least, it should)
The lousy artist ink is pretty good! Reminds me of the zig millennium liners. It has a bit of like a grayish/watered out look to it on certain strokes though, I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a kaweco sport fountain pen with it, maybe the best application is with a calligraphy pen.
PD.. like how you drew the one on the right kind of going out of the frame, not the picture frame..the art frame or the art with the inner frame inside a frame..
Master chef is a great show. I’ve watched every season since season 2. You learn a lot from it. Hell’s Kitchen and hotel hell are really good shows too. I can watch anything that man puts on.
Peter Moss Green by Ferris Wheel is lovely! Ferris Wheel inks are all so beautiful, but I'm intimidated by them. Instead I watch others create beautiful art with them. edit: cookbooks : Jamie Oliver is good for easy recipes that don't require specialty cookware or kitchenware. There's always the classic Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, or a Campbells cookbook, which will utilize pre-packaged and canned goods, and usually have single pot meals. the instant pot has been my best friend, graduating from my beloved slow cooker.
I am agreeing with you on cooking stuff. I'm living in small town and I usually dont have half of ingridients in local stores or they are expensive:( Or it cooking just tooks too much time
Hee Peter, I love that you are gonna dip your feet in cooking!! You'll love the different tastes textures and smells you have never dreamed of to encounter. Maybe you would like to go to a local farmers market or similar (if they have them near you) and look at all the twister roots and colourful cabbages and sandy blobby potatoes, it's inspiring to try out strange foods not from the grocery store :). But that might be a too far from your bed show!
I'm writing this comment with my new Peter Pen (Ocean Blue), and I have been loving it so far. Interestingly, I received a package from Australia today as well, and it had the same sort of dust-fiber explosion as seen at 5:32.
Hi Peter! I have to admit, I still love your older videos of you cooking stuff without all the fancy gadgets. Your grilled cheese video and your hot dog video are great. Your cake video was hilarious, I'm happy you kept your older videos on here. Are you thinking about filming a few of your kitchen experiments in the future after acquiring all these new kitchen gadgets? 😉😁
Neat tacticool jacket! The postcard was very neat, and I’m curious how they made it with the bead and string that opens. Very neat! Finally, the art made with the fine liners is really great!
Peter, I love your more experimental videos. It seems that given the choice, you're drawn to using tools that give you more creative control for the highly intricate type of drawings you like to do. In light of this, I wonder if you would be interested in experimenting with Chinese ink wash painting using Chinese calligraphy pen. It would be intriguing to see how you get on with that style of drawing/painting. Cheers!
My cooking strategy revolves around making as few dirty dishes as possible. Did you know you can cook pasta by filling the pot with water to just above the noodles and just boiling it until it is gone? Brown some meat in spices first (if you like meat) and add your fav veggies when the water is low. Don’t forget to keep stirring so it doesn’t stick. Sauce and cheese optional once off the heat.
Hullo Peter, I enjoy watching you draw and your cooking commentary was special You have a rather local connection to Vivian Howard from "A Chef's Life" her cook book "Deep Run Roots" is a NC area food cook book! We got it and I do not believe we did her recipe justice, but we had fun making it and eating it was good enough for us! Reading other people's handwriting is not easy especially "live" on camera! Thanks for sharing your recycled ink experience. I wonder how it would work in a fountain pen? Maybe try a Noodler's pen they are built to take on just about anything!
Visit your local goodwill or any thrift stores for kitchen utensils or other home goods. People donate items in great condition everyday; it saves you money and there’s excitement in the discovery…you never know what you’ll find.
For me cooking was a weird way to get control back into my life. It was weird because I felt like I could do nothing and make nothing, sitting in the kitchen and working out a meal had a therapeutic effect of: "I can do things." It is hard for the little goblin in your brain telling you you are worthless if you are feeding people and feeding yourself. Also as someone, who collects old books (due to opportunity mostly) I own some older cookbooks. Cookbooks that were written for people who were already familiar with these kind of things. The difference between the "basics" and the "advanced" often times comes down to density of context. Those old books will tell you to just do a thing. "Broil this" and expecting you to know what broiling is and how to do it and what temperatures and tools you need. Basic cookbooks explain you what to do.
Low and slow on the cooking. Pick simple things, and build out. Also, read the recipe a bunch, before even starting. Cooking was a thing for me, too. I'm better now, but what a journey. :| Last thing I made was biscuits. Just biscuits, I wasn't trying to do a fancy, and roommate had made some salmon. Seemed right; salmon, biscuits, mebbe some syrup. But then they didn't rise and poof. I guess I replaced an ingredient wrong or kneaded too much. Still tasted good, tho. Like sodabread, only no sugar. Best part; sometimes the mess ups are still edible and safe, so no real waste. :3 Wow, that doodle was so good. So funky and fungal. :o
As a complete layman, what I'll say about cooking is this: Don't be afraid to just do whatever. Oh, you said use a teaspoon of sugar? I'm gonna use a tablespoon. Use vegetable oil? Screw you, I'm using lard. Use half a stick of butter? How about a whole stick, chucklehead? _Most_ of the time you get something slightly better or slightly worse. Sometimes a lot better or a lot worse. Baking is especially easy as a beginner because you can buy prepackaged stuff and just follow the instructions on the box to get comfortable. Roasts are easy, too. Just throw it in the oven at 275 degrees for 4 hours or something. Done. If it's not done, put it in another hour. Throw on salt. Sit it in butter. Whatever. You really just can't mess it up. The worst you can do is make something that needs some ketchup.
Get a wok, and this book: The Wok: Recipes and Techniques, by J. Kenji López-Alt. Lotsa pretty pictures. Later you can get one of those giant wok-burner single burner stove.
I’ve also been meaning to cook more. I recently got the America’s Test Kitchen vegetarian cookbook and an instant pot Indian cookbook. I’ve got some recipes on Pinterest but I agree it’s nice to have physical cookbooks. 😊

I was so hoping you might sing and dance today, but I love all your videos no matter what you do
Peter made Peter lousy like peter
Dunno if you have, but you should try watch Masterchef Australia too. It's basically the more chill version of the American one
Thank you Peter for the video I didn't know I needed. And thank you for the Narwhal Peter Pen Ocean Blue 💙
Maybe you should go visit the different pen companies, tour the world watching how people make their pens? Touring with Peter around the world.
Last thing I made was biscuits. :3
Wow, that doodle was so good. So funky and fungal. :o
Broiler mode is half of oven mode and dude just cook what u wanna eat cook for you an it make u happy feels. I believe in u.
Beautiful lousy piece of art as well a+⭐
You have the same block handwriting as my secondary school art teacher, she's lovely and what a strange coincidence:)
Looking forward to your new spin off series "Peter Cooks"
U have a great following START DOING SOMETHING FOR THE PLANET..SO WHEN U LONG FORGOTTEN..THE PLANET IS HEALTHY ❤

Get a wok, and this book: The Wok: Recipes and Techniques, by J. Kenji López-Alt. Lotsa pretty pictures. Later you can get one of those giant wok-burner single burner stove.
Inspector gadget jacket! 🤣😂🤣😂
Your oven should have a broiler setting on it.
It’s my oven?? Wow
Came here to say this as well, also sometimes it's under the oven door. There's a drawer on the bottom of the oven that slides out.
The broiler is in your oven, top rack. Set dial to broil. 😘
I’ve also been meaning to cook more. I recently got the America’s Test Kitchen vegetarian cookbook and an instant pot Indian cookbook. I’ve got some recipes on Pinterest but I agree it’s nice to have physical cookbooks. 😊
Oi! If I’m living on a different planet one of your sky blue Peter Pens is officially an astronaut!
Haha awesome :)

Hey Peter have you ever considered trying to paint in Virtual Reality?
There is a "BROIL" setting on most ovens. Don't give up Peter!!!!
Coming soon Peter cooks 😊
The cats are quirky, and the word is not siole, it’s probably “side”. The o and l should be squished together to make a “d”. I think??
'your *reviewing* style appeals to me'
I've said it before and I will continue to say it. You are frickin' adorable and I love ya Peter.
Wait what nib was on the dip pen?
