THE PUMPKIN ECONOMY - bartering produce

- What can you swap for an armfull of pumpkins?
My healthy permaculture inspired veggie garden is so abundant with organic pumpkins. I am finding new ways to benefit from all this produce. This harvest gave 242 pumpkins from just two vines.
I discovered there are a ton of things you can trade for a few pumkins!
I hope this little story inspires YOU to start a garden of your own, wherever you live in the world.
Love and greenness

Toot toot! I'm the person who won Weedy's book for the 242 pumpkin guess.🍊 Yay, so grateful. A beautiful hard cover of 'At any given moment' arrived in the mail & amazing to have it sitting in my lap!
I knew that there'd be some brilliant photography but had no idea that'd there would be childhood and life stories in there as well! A nice surprise. Reading through, a feeling of rubbing shoulders with 'peace itself' in areas but can also see life hasn't always been easy. I found my heart racing throughout some of the stories as well.🤨🤣
Knowing the sound of the weedy vocals, the wording really speaks out as I'm reading.
💦 My niece and I recently did a plant/produce trade, when she spotted the book, it was like she saw the pyramid of Giza🤣🤣
💚 Hey Narelle. Your lucky number 🙏👍🏼🎃
@@TheWeedyGarden omgawwd, 11x22=242 🤣🤣
I would love to purchase two copies of the book. I sent an email to you David on your photography web page, but haven't gotten a response yet.
@@broniaholmes7308 sorry. I never read them because I get 100 junk mails for each real one. Sorry. Msg me on fb in future, but I do not have enough hard copies left now. Perhaps a reprint next year. Sorry.
@@TheWeedyGarden I don't do fb. When you get a reprint, please let us know. Thanks.
this is how life should be!
no millionaire footballers, just an abundance from harvest, traded with the local neighbours so everybody gets shat they need.
another truly beautiful video mate! looking fresh after the trim!
😁
Oh and just one little millionaire Weedy gardener with dirty pants and a food forest on a hill? Please. Then I could keep doing TWG until YOUR beard reached the ground. Hey. How about this...I’ll just be me, and you tell everyone about my videos. Then it’s a win win in a few years and onward 💥🌟
agreed
also agreed! a few months down the line and the channel is growing nicely... an so is my beard! 😎 keep gardening weedy and il keep sharing with friends!
happy new year!
This year I also had the same problem, all from one volunteer plant that grew from compost. Once our family and friends got overwhelmed we gave over 50lbs to our local Food Not Bombs. That felt really good, and I highly recommend it as an option.
I couldn't agree more! Good life.
This reminds me of how beautiful and elegant society can be when we keep it simple. 🤙
Less is more
That was awesome! I sent it to my grandkids...could be a children's story "The Man Who Had Too Many Pumpkins" 😍
Actually I could imagine the book pretty clearly in my head, that would be a great idea. Maybe trade some pumpkins for someone to draw the pictures.
@@gameoverwehaveeverypixelco1258Good idea...or just add a title to the film and sell it as is...maybe both!
I always thought as my life progressed that we would get back to the barter system that worked years ago. I really think humanity have lost the plot and greed is so ingrained in us these days. I am glad it still works some places..
It’s the new trend brew. Just watch it grow (with Weedy) 😃💚👍🏼🐝🦶🏻🎃
What a way to live. True 'wealth' when you can generate all of those trades and goodwill from just two seeds. Participating in that continuing extrapolation alone is enough for a wonderfully fulfilling life. My favourite aspect of permaculture!
Most beautiful pumpkin video ever💕
Ever? Like do you mean in all of history, from all the punken vids you’ve seen or from TWG channel? It’s my best punken vid ever cause it’s the only one (so far). Maybe there could be a Weedy’s Kitchen with punken episode before we move on to the food forest. Then there’ll be two
@@TheWeedyGarden it is the best pumpkin video that I have ever watched on RUclips or anywhere else. It touched my heart how you managed to barter your pumpkins with the people in your community, sharing goods and services, what a wonderful world this could be. Of course the video was beautifully made too. Thank you
I smiled through this whole video. This is how life is supposed to be. Thank for sharing your garden and your friends. I love this channel!!!💙
This video everyone’s smiling. Last one everyone’s crying. It must be a roller coaster for you 😆💚🎥🗣
The storytelling, the idea behind it, the filming.. I love everything and am always happy whenever a new video shows up ♡
Me too. Then I have a break for a few days
Life would be much better with neighbors like you. Thank you for giving me hope that the human species will continue.
Hell yeah! The Tribe can only grow from here.
A simple life returning. Ĺet this be an example to many and bring back the ol swappsies! Thanks Weedy. Love the show
Oh... That's the world we like to live in! This is a very powerful message... If we are all sovereign of ourselves, corrupt governments, banks and large multinationals will fall under their own weight. We are. We are changing the paradigm!!!
This is wonderful! Building Community and growing your own food! What an amazing bounty!
Lovin it 👌
How good for you that people accepted your barter of pumpkins. We get heaps of same-day baked bread from a bakery at end of day and offered people in the carpark some loaves and we get 'yeah, nah thanks'. We offered neighbours bread for themselves or their animals - 'no, we don't need any bread'. This is bread at $6 a loaf. The only person who appreciated it was a trolley boy who asked 'what's the catch?". No catch mate. We also had a lot of pumpkins, we say the pigs planted it as they poo out the pumpkin seeds and they grew with this lovely rain.
Aww, Weedy, you never fail, smiling ten minutes straight AGAIN! You might be the only one among my subscriptions who does it 🤔☺️💕
Not even talking about the swapping concept itself - you’re an embodiment of the way we could live peacefully side by side. Stay well and happy 🤗
I will mate. I will. I grow me own food bro 💪🏻 u 2
This is the life and blessings heaven wants us to have.
I love all of your videos and you too Mr Weedy. This one has the warmest loveliest feeling!
I'm really enjoying the community connections you're creating for yourself and the encouragement of others to do the same. You're becoming quite the guru of enjoying the experience, of loving and being loved, which is, after all, the real reason we're here in the physical world as fractals of the one "all that is"! Two pumpkin seeds don't just nourish for two hundred plus meals, but nourish the relationships too.
Dear Mr Weedy, Firstly let me start by saying that the opening sequence shot with the drone above the clouds was spectacular and made my heart sing. Secondly, after a pretty average week this video was such a gift to watch. The simple but joyful story telling was an absolute balm against the rest of the world at the moment! I am so thankful that you share your wonderful gifts with us in this way (the story telling that is.... but also your pumpkins ha ha).
I decided to get back onto the land after 35 yrs of travelling. My best move yet, and I am glad to share the enthhusiasm and joy, balance and peace it gives me.
@@TheWeedyGarden new sub wow all those pumpkins from 2 seeds how did you do that
The werry best videos from the weedy garden. Relaxing, helpfull and funny.....Keep up the good work ( films ) for us!
We have similar "problems" this year! Great harvest.
(Hides so DTG doesn’t see that I watch other gardening channels besides just his)
@@samuelkorger3567 I had to see who was growing more pumpkins than me.
Yes I know, but I woukdn’t call it a problem 😃🎃
@@TheWeedyGarden Mr. Weedy, I'm wondering why you didn't plant your coffee plant the EGW method? Thanks for the inspiration and demonstration on how to swap. It's a fantastic idea!
David. Have a look at this traditional in ground greenhouse ruclips.net/video/Qvk7Sszh6fg/видео.html
I watched so many of these videos multiple times now...there is something so beautiful and romantic about living like this. I wish I could live this way so badly. I wish the whole world lived this way.
The great pumpkin economy! Loved it. I wonder how many systemic pests and disease are common to pumpkins there. I know Australia has several wild curcubits, but squashes and pumpkins are new world crops. We always battle squash bugs and vine borers here that can systematically kill the plant, but even here I’ve gotten great results planting butternut squash in the past. But just like cucumbers, pumpkins can be temperamental, either producing massively or collapsing without much fruit.
These ones were happy. So am I !
Anybody know the name of that pumpkin that he growa
I am a fan of yours Suburban Homestead. These videos are thoughtful and artistic like yours. What a great find both of you.
Your movies moves me and stories are stirring. Thank you.
The most relaxing 10:30 seconds of my life. Incredible production value. The shadow clips was amazingly done.
Thanks so much. 🎃
This is one of those few and far between gems of YT that really has it all. God bless you and all the participants involved.
That’s saying something! Thanks Alberta 🙏😀🎥🎃
First of all, this video, among other weedy garden videos, really warmed my heart! What a great example of what permaculture is all about! Secondly, holy moly! What variety of pumpkin was that?
Love how you filmed your conversation with Meg. Your series is delightful. Thank you.
What a mighty harvest, I've some pumpkin's decorating my house at the moment😊 greetings from Ireland!
Greetings from the folks down under
Barter with like minded people! Great community!
What a wonderful community! So heart warming.
Your community is as beautiful as your garden ❤️❤️❤️
💚💚💚
Beautiful, just beautiful. Your videos give me so much happiness and inspiration. Thankyou
As do your comments ✅🐝🎥👌
I have a pumpkin beer story.
Made a pumpkin wort but couldn’t find an airlock so I bunged it up overnight.
Popped it the next morning.
Shot up like a genie.
Screams, commotion, hysterical laughter and swearing.
Spent the rest of the morning cleaning pumpkin.
Thanks for posting your wonderful video on the eve of the weekend!
OMG. Reminds me of when mum used to make ginger beer and tightened all the tops.
@@TheWeedyGarden bless her!
I'm a beekeeper, that shot with the bees was fantastic! Love what you're doing, and such a great community 🤗
It was so nice to watch them in sloooow motion afterwards. That long last shot of the bee flying far away up into the sky all took about 3/4 of a second in real life.
I will be getting bees and am looking forward to it so much
@@TheWeedyGarden your spot seems perfect for bees, i don't believe they will even overwinter with those temperatures, so honey all year round 👍🏼. Try getting used from the beginning to use no leather gloves, bees don't like the smell. Bare hands is better and you need to get stung sometimes anyway. Check out russian (carnica) or buckfast if you can get them over there.
This made me cry. What aren’t we all living like this. At least for those of us that choose to 🧚♀️ Weedy, this was inspiring. Thank You 🙏🏻
A lot of people do live like this. Maybe not so much in the cities though
Beautifully entertaining!! ⚘🌻🍀🌼
🤡🕺
That's great bartering Weedy.👍🌻
New to your channel but I love this video. In the midst of “self sufficiency” people, as well as myself, can forget about the community aspect of all of this. We aren’t meant to produce everything all the time. We need a community of people with skills and resources to make things work.
Yep 👍🏼
I can't wait to live like this.
That’s the way 👍
Beautiful camera work! As always. Love this!
You’re a champion 👍✅👌😇😘😃
This one is a real gem! I love how you went to great lengths to show us the simple interactions to had with each trader. You are such an awesome storyteller! This will go down as one of my favourites. Thank you Weedy 🙌
Filming and editing are wonderful but it’s his GENUINE HEART and INTRIGUING MIND that are what makes these films so WONDERFUL, Thank You
That’s a lovely comment Larry 😃🙏🏻🎃
Oh my goodness. Mr Weedy your vlogs are not just simply videos, they are short films and even more than that they are works of art. I don’t know if it’s my weedy or your film but that was so delightful a story and a cinematography bonanza. What a journey from 2 seeds I was riveted and spun out by the beauty of everything you, your friends and nature did. Thank you so much. Love from lockdown Melbourne.
Lovely response. The stuff that fills my tank. Thankyou. By the sounds of it you are new to the channel. My favorite atm is episode 5, but it might not be that obvious that it is a “How to build a raised garden bed” video.
@@TheWeedyGarden on the contrary Mr Weedy I’ve watched all your episodes. I think I guessed about 270 or 80 pumpkins, bummer lol. I’ll check out E5 again. Bless🙏 🌈💜
Brilliant video maté enjoyed watching the journey of the pumpkin 🎃
7th!! 👍🏻🐑. A stunning update and always. Love it! 😍
O poor number 7. 🥲Better luck next time 🎃 &🙏👌👍🏼
I loved this so much, bartering is a lost skill. A few months ago I traded 3 loafs of homemade sourdough for a haircut! It was great!
Great! The other day I traded a new road for a little film I made for the guy who made my road. Photography is a nice thing to barter with. I did it for a new lawn mower last week too. I might even show those films on my channel soon. I only had a few pumpkins this year 🤣
love your story, always so entertaining to watch
thanx. love your nr there btw
Let me know if you would like my grandmother's pumpkin bread recipe for next year! :)
Mr Weedy, the quality and creativity of your videos along with the editing is insanely awesome and leaves me gobsmacked everytime to watch.
I definitely do think we will go back to the old ways of bartering wich is exciting, because the way the world is going continues to spiral down hill out of control.
BUT...we have a problem if everyone grows punkens!!
@@TheWeedyGarden ha we each will master something different.. I'm falling in love with "lemon cucumbers". Give them a try.
Your channel is a breathe of fresh air. Thank you 🙏
Thank YOU too. Help the channel grow by sharing it and talking about the Weedy style. I sooo much want to keep doing it, and need the support to grow 🌱💚🙏
You are easily one of my favorite people on the planet, and we haven’t even met yet beyond this digital platform… Thanks once again for all the inspiration and reminding all of us that Trade is a wonderful beautiful and “forgive the pun’ fruitful reality when implemented…Peace love and blessings
Lol. You must know David Attenborough. I would be happy for second place really 🤣🤣🤣🙏
Your photography talent is also abundant, thanks for your time and sharing, Pat
Beautiful!
💚
Your pumpkin story is worthy of an Oscar... bloody champion mate.
I really love this mate. Your videos are a pleasure to watch , almost feel like im out there with you when I watch them. The content is awesome and this video really touches my heart. This is a lifestyle I have personally craved for a long time. Great work on the harvest and even greater work in spreading the love and trading an almost extinct practice that is genuinely lovely to see.
Thanx. You just gotta try it. You’ll be surprised how much people appreciate good home grown food.
@@TheWeedyGarden I always share my seedlings, seeds and harvest :D Just have less than 10ft by 10ft yard so cant produce much, but the way I see it is every patch is as important as any other, So I do my best with what I have :D
A journey of pumpkin seeds. This is great Weedy! And the most sexy cooking video at the end.
This is so great Weedy. Cheers from Central Vic.
Sorry for the delayed reply. Thankyou 🪕
Another lovely video thank you. The light showing through that bee’s body- what a shot!
My wish for the world is for every household to have a big pile of pumpkin or whatever they like. 🙏🏽
Then each household needs at least one tennis court for their punken patch but then noone gunna be interested to swap 🤣 can u imagine?
@@TheWeedyGarden I can! We could write a song Weedy "Imagine"!💚. RUclips should have awards like the Emmy etc. You win 🏆!
So happy to watch this episode...
You're doing a wonderful job Mr Weedy! 👍
Thanx Roy. You´re always there as one of the first to comment. How do you do that? ha ha
The om on his pendent 😍😍😍
I am really loving your videos, just fabulous. I had managed to miss this one earlier in the year but it reminded me how we likewise had two Kent pumpkins planted last spring and with the weather they went wild! They covered around 25-30m in the backyard and we had around 35 medium to very large pumpkins. We gifted, swapped and ate through the winter and about to start over again :) it is amazing how many neighbours you can meet and become friends with by this practice. Growing for me really is love ❤️
Weedy you are truly living the dream. Whilst others strive for fame, fortune and wealth in their day to day, you are living a beautiful peaceful existence out in the bush surrounded by the beauty of nature and the quiet life....I always find myself relaxed after watching your vids. Everything happens for a reason and thankfully for people like myself, you were given to creating a small piece of paradise for us to follow and enjoy. You have turned a difficult and emotionally down time into something wonderful that reaches and touches us all. Please keep the videos coming. Anything, from what you're growing at different times of the year, to how your prepare the gardens, getting the worm castings whatever. Happy to watch and learn and may you continue on your journey...
Such a lovely comment. Gives me a smile. Thankyou 🙏🏻

@@markrodrigue9503 actually they were not fed at all. The soil is good up there on the hill. Everyone around here had a bumper crop this year.
Weedy Garden has such beautiful production value so underrated by far one of my favorite plant youtubers ever. So Creative!
Wow, thank you!
These are not videos, they are education about human condition which so called city schools can not teach us.
I think getting back to the old ways, trading and sharing is the way forward 🙋♀️
Then let’s start calling it “The new ways”.
If we all lived this way we could feed the world
Two seeds, and 242 pumkins, can build a strong community,.....not to mention get you all the necessities of life. Beautiful story Weedy!
