  • In this video, I show how I made my worm farm from an old bath tub, a gate hinge and a bit of tin.
Day after day, year after year, it will produce microbe rich, nutrient rich fertilizer for my garden.

I use to live in a cold/snowy climate & had a vermicompost worm bin indoors from veggie waste & a compost 2 bay system outdoors from my garden/veggies/yard waste that sat in mostly shade & I never covered the outdoor compost bays. In summer, I would water The pile to keep cool. Summers were dry & a bit hot @ times. The worm pee alone made my plants/veggies/trees so healthy!! Cardboard & watermelon/rinds would be devoured by the worms really quickly, it was hilarious. 😄 In winter I used cheap & big onions & set them out in our living space (living room/lounge) because onions are a natural air purifier. It helps when the home is closed up for months on end. Your tip to dry it out & add it to the worm bin is excellent. One of our neighbor's saw our outdoor compost & gave us his fall leaves & saw firsthand how all his leaves broke down along with the rest of our materials into a beautiful rich black earth soil. Awesome video! Enjoy the content.

G'day David. Just caught up with your vermicast vid ... bit of medical time out..... As expected, an awesome educational master class in setting up Wormville. I have been worm farming for many years now, in a domestic home food garden set up. Like you, I have also learnt both the likes and dislikes of worm husbandry. One helpful hint, that has helped my worms over the extreme hot spells we experience in Melbourne over summer, is to freeze several 2 or 3 litre plastic milk bottles. Then I wrap them in several layers of newspaper and put them over the feeding zone, as well as the nesting zone to give them respite [DEADLY RESULTS!] from 40 C heat! I have 2 sets of bottles that I rotate from freezer to the worm farms each day of any heat wave! Unfortunately, long ago, I had lost complete colonies to the ravages of heat waves ...... but, haven't lost any since adopting this process! Cheers.

Great video, thanks Weedy. Simple, creative and informative. Time to build my own wormville. Stumbled across you when looking for info on swales, been binging all morning with a coffee on this wet queensland morning🌧

just a side note at 4:00 I was extremely jealous that you were able to hammer steel posts so far into the ground with such a small hammer and hit no stones. I can't even get a foot down before i'm hitting some kind of boulder lol.

Thanks for that comment. Yeah, I think it makes my job a lot easier by just showing instead of trying to immitate a prof garden master. When I’m 100, I’ll start to say “I know”, but until then it’s “I show” 🙃✌️

This video of yours gave me the last push to initiate my wormbin that has been in my mind for the last few days now. Was still thinking of the complicated things that's why it got delayed further and further, but seeing your bin being a tub that gave me the push to just take it easy and followed your method. So I prepared a small bucket with alternate layers of greens and browns topped with cucumber, covered in paper and placed it under a shade. The worms looked more relaxed and at ease than being under black plastic seedling bag that was surrounded by free-range chickens. Thank you ❤️
