Nice video, I hope you keep posting stuff like this :) I have one suggestion though, you should purge remaining fuel from the fuel line with "purge" procedure. It is mentioned in service manual. After you unplug fuel pump socket, you should hit the starter. (nobody does that anyway :) )

Have you ever added a 4.5 gallon tank to an Iron 883? Im planning to add one to mine to get more range out of the bike. Im curious whether you know if the stock seat would still fit, or whether it would need to be replaced?
Hey Dr. Sandeep Parwaga!! I have not done that I have thought about it a couple of times. On the seat I think you will have to because the tank was a little bit longer but I’m not 100%. If I remember correctly when I was looking for seats and the websites asked if you have a 3.3 gallon tank or a 4.5 gallon tank so I’m assuming it makes a difference hope this helps ride safe!!
@@DoubleDMoto Thanks for the reply. Im just going to have to test it. I hoped someone has already done it and could give me an answer before I do. Someone else said the stock one might be fine with the 4.5 gallon tank because that person had a aftermarket seat which was longer than the stock and it fitted with that longer one.
@@drsparwaga I talked to a friend and he said:
The seat will work with the bigger tank but will probably rub the back of the tank. He can cut a bit of foam off and retucked the cover.
@@DoubleDMoto That’s awesome. Thanks for enquiring. If the rubbing isnt too bad, I could leave the seat as it is. If it does rub too much for my liking, I’ll do what your friend said and trim down the foam inside.
If you were going to have the tank painted, would you just tape off the fuel pump and lines or completely remove them from the tank?
I would personally remove all just to be on the safe side.
@@DoubleDMoto I should have said I am only getting the top half of the tank painted. I want to paint the top half, which is currently orange, to match the bottom half which is vivid black. So I will probably keep it attached and just take it off and tuck the wires in the center channel on the underside.
Did you replace the gasket when you reinstalled the fuel pump?
@@andr3w557 sounds good! I did a tank lift and wire wrap while it was off. I would replace the gasket if messing with fuel pump.

This works but is the longer and harder way. Instead of removing the panel and battery cover to disconnect the fuel injection connector you can just remove the tank bolts, lift the tank a few inches and disconnect the fuel injection connector from the side that's under the the tank. Once you've done that try and start the back, that will flush out the fuel that's in the lines so you wont get any fuel spillage like he did and then just disconnect the fuel line.
You will have to remove the panel and battery cover as this is for the fuel pump connector not the fuel injectors. You are correct about flushing out the fuel, but unfortunately I couldn’t as the starter button was not working. Part of the reason I was removing the tank for troubleshooting. Thanks for adding this valuable information as I did forget to mention that.
If anybody is wondering, this video also works for a 2013 Harley Davidson Sportster Super-low XL883L.

This also worked on my 2020 Iron 1200
I noticed a electrical connector at the gas tank. Is it recommended not to disconnect it? Cable too short to reach ground.
If your model has one it would definitely be easier, mine doesn’t.
Does tank have to be completely empty ?
It doesn’t but it will have some weight with fuel.
@@DoubleDMoto will fuel leak when bottom plugs are removed from tank ?
@@hs7382 mine did not leak fuel as it has a ball that keeps it from coming out not sure what year yours is but some are different

Is that an ECU tucked under the cables to the main fuse?
The ECU is between the battery and the rear cylinder. Little black and silver box with gray plug. The little black box tucked in behind the main fuse wiring is the Vance and Hines FP3. At least for my 2015 Iron Sportster, hope this helps.

I believe you can remove it without removing the tank. If you are relocating it then you will have to.

Not new to bikes but new to this bike.. I’ve had several Honda’s, Yamaha and even an Electra Glide Classic. No need to knock people. It’s sometimes easier to watch a simple video instead of trial and error. You are either an experienced Harley owner or just an asshole. I’ll let the crowd decide.
