The last time I was there was 1992 as crew chief on a land speed record car, in September. Tips for visitors: Bring gallons of liquids to drink; in the heat you can literally drink five litres of Gatorade, and never need to use the bathroom. Do not wear shorts! The salt is so reflective you can get burned 'up there' if you get my drift. Take a rental car as the salt will pack up underneath; there is no way to totally remove it, and it will eat your car alive, starting with the wiring and moving on to the steel. Stay in Wendover, Salt Lake City is too far. The crust of the salt can break through to the wet undersurface and you can get your car stuck... But enjoy the amazing vistas... you can see the curvature of the earth as the salt flats are so immense. Love your shots, Jay. A great choice for a destination. Hope the remainder of your trip was good.

Amazing tips! Luckily I was there when the sun was setting but I wished I had connected with you before my visit. I was too chicken to drive on the salt, I did not want to risk it, even with a rental. I did stay in Wendover -- not glamorous but so convenient. That salt is still on my camera bag!

Wonderful video Jay and some fabulous images too. An amazing location that goes on for miles and miles it seems. Clear patches of salt lake were few and far between judging by the tracks. Take care and be safe 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks Mate. I guess I could have driven out on the salt in search of a clear patch but if you hit a soft spot, you can get stuck and I did not want to risk it. Maybe next time.

The rate that the Great Salt Lake is drying up, that will look like the Salt Flats as well soon enough. Some really striking contrast between the orange in the sky and the white of the ground. Fantastic video and images Jay! Best of luck to your son in his senior year! Take care out there!

Thanks Paul! It is an exciting but somewhat stressful year for him. I’m sure it will work out well for him though. Have a great weekend!
