Exercise 1 FreeCAD Basic Part Design Tutorial For Beginner

Great walkthrough on creating complex parts. I think these lessons will be very helpful for learning to create parts in FreeCAD. This is not an introduction into FreeCAD, however. He does NOT go into detail on what the tools are, their behavior or why you are using them. He just walks you through the steps of creating the objects in the exercises provided. I think this is very effective and useful, once you have gone through other "introduction" tutorials. Most of those other tutorials use very simple parts though. So, I like the more complex exercises better for learning part design. Agree with gooddealonly, while pausing and redoing certain areas, it took a 1-2 hours to complete. He does a good job of pointing out the icons/tools used. On the repetitive tasks, I wish he stated what the hotkeys he is clearly using, like Shift-R for setting radius. But definitely a thumbs up and I hope to continue the series, as long as the models continue to progress in difficulty and type. On a side note, FreeCAD crashed on me three times while making this. Although frustrating, having to redo this object 3 times really helped me get better at identifying the icons needed and drawing this out. I think I can do this exercise from scratch in about 15min without watching the video. Save early/save often. Or don't, and benefit from the extra practice, lol. Liked and subscribed. I am a new FreeCAD user and had very little experience with FreeCAD. I did it. I eventually duplicated the entire object in FreeCAD. I spent about 30 to 45 minutes each session watching and doing the practice on FreeCAD. It took me many hours to slowly learn this Exercisse. I have dual monitors which allow me to watch on one screen and work on FreeCAD on another screen. I save at each major step with a step number so I can go back to previous steps very easily if I screwed up. After I finished with the drawing, I export an STL file to my 3D printer and printed the object at 50% size. Thanks.

I had to watch the video a few times and slow down the play speed to be able to follow the process. In one blink of my eye, I missed what the instructor is doing and I am lost! I had FreeCAD opened on one screen and tried to duplicate what the instructor is doing while watching the video. For example at 2:41, I could not hear clearly about the "Trim" command and I was lost right from there! I slow down the play speed and eventually I was able to follow along. I guess a lesson on how each button work would be helpful. But now I am learning the button by doing it.
