Nice comparison, I went with the RC Pro bundle when purchasing my new Mavic 3 Pro recently. I was back and forth on the added cost, but most admit it was absolutely right for me. Its more of a quality of life thing. IF you want the extra capability and to not have to put it down, pick up another device, and so on so forth, then yeah maybe its worth the money to you. @@JakeSloan I have three a6600s that I bought 3 years ago in hopes to get the A7 S3 as my main camera later but never did and then I realized recently there's the FX3 that I would prefer and then it was like oh I can just get the FX30 so I got that last week and I'm learning how to color grade finally. Once I get comfortable with this camera then I'll probably get the FX3 and just shoot with those two instead of the a6600s. I can't wait to get a full free camera for once but this FX30 is an awesome step in that direction and great way to get my feet wet I think I hope anyways
I am wondering if the responsiveness on the screen is better on the PRO vs Rc?? I've been flying my mavic 3 pro for couple years now and my biggest complaint is how slow the screen reacts to everything it drive me nuts. It wasn't such a prob on mavic 3 since i used iphone + controller & screen rate didnt change but when i go from using my iphone to using the RC there is this overwhelming hate that brews & so far ive just chocked it up to ANDROID sucks compared to iphone. So before i unload 900 on RC pro just wanted to confirm screen rate is better or more responsive or responds faster than the RC remote. Hope this makes sense. Mucho Mahalo Amigo
Mr Sloan RUclips God. I have just literally seena boxed Air 3 this means in my humble opinion you have one already 😳Cmon what's the spec of they cameras 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Jake. Great video. I got in on that Air 2S bundle with the RC Pro a year ago as my first drone. The Rc wasn't out yet. Now I use it with the Mavic 3 as well. Never did like the idea of using a phone for my FPV.
I think you might have slightly better luck with the Rc pro but due to transmission power limits in Britain and the EU your signal strength will always be much less than North America
It will be interesting to see if DJI has done anything more than add external antennas to the RC-2, such as a brighter screen and enough RAM and system memory to install an app or 2. Im not expecting a huge change, though. Adding the antennas is tantamount to admitting the range weakness of the original RM330 in any case.
Thanks for this very helpful video. DJI recently refused to repair my Phantom 4 Pro and my P4P V2 flies like a drunk rat. I hate buying another DJI product after they sold me a lemon with the V2 but I need something that can fly smoothly, to capture video. I can use the V2 for mapping but not for video so I guess I'll have to buy a mavic soon. As I've started looking at the Mavic line one of my questions was the difference between the controllers. Thanks again for this helpful video.
At this point in time. Just wait for the DJI RC 2 to be released next week, than do the comparison. I have no idea 🤷♀️ why I am seeing video options this late in the game between the DJI RC and RC Pro? Want apps? Use your phone. DJI RC will most likely have a better display and will have the external antennas nipping the range complaints in the butt.
When it comes to file transfers I was shocked and disappointed to have the same problem when I got my first iPad to fly with. I ended up transferring files I think to an sd card, then a card reader and then plugging it into the iPad or some convoluted thing. Totally hate it
I have the first version of the DJI Smart Controller that I use with my Mavic Air 2. I use the Smart Controller's HDMI out with a couple of different goggles and it was worth the buy to get the HDMI out.
I've just put in over 700+ flights in the past 9 months on the RC and I'm contemplating stepping up to the Pro. I just don't see it being 400% in price better. I will pay more for more security of connection and range. The extra brightness is always a plus but it's not 2,000 Nits. I guess if you needed the HDMI output/share then it's a must. Needs more battery life. The Pro seems twice as good as the RC, but not 4X as good as the price suggests.
I sold my RC PRO for DJI RC because i prefer stick stiffness, weight and battery life of DJI RC. But i still miss bright screen of RC PRO. I saw leak photo of DJI RC2 with external antenna. If it have a same brightness of RC PRO. I might upgrade. BTW #7:31 you should say RC PRO.
I use the HDMI port on my Phantom 4 pro plus for my skyzone goggles. If the RC had the HDMI out I would stick to that, but I love flying with goggles. You can see everything so much clearer.
Mini HDMI is useless for me. The brighter display is desirable but not worth the extra money. The only thing I do care is good signal penetration. I keep my drone on the line of sight all the time but I am a bit concerned because I have seen on a lot of videos people making the RC sound so bad, even worse than standard remote when it comes to signal strength. Excellent and helpful comparison by the way, I have none of these but I will be upgrading my drone soon and trying to decide which package to get.
Don't upgrade just yet there is an Air 3 on the horizon and a new DJI RC with external antennas is rumored which may fix some of the signal issues people have been having
I absolutely LOVE this review! Went fast and covered EVERYTHING I had a check-box for. To be honest, I want it ALL! After flying for a week with my Mini 3 (standard) with the Combo kit (3 batteries, RC with a screen reviewed here), I want to get as deep into this as I can. But until I can fly like a pro, I will wait for the pro gear. As BAD as I want the HDMI, the 32gb, the controller controls flexibility, and the antennas/range. I would rather bank the $900 and put it towards the Air 3 fly more combo. Thank you Jake for the awesome review and well done video! I appreciate the time you spent doing it and the knowledge I gained!! {liked.subscribed.saved}=TRUE.
Ive been flying for almost 7 years.I have owned a P3, P3P, P4, P4P2.0+, Mavic Pro(the original), MA2s, and now a Mavic 3 Pro! I use an ios device on everything as it is always superior when it comes to lag, responsiveness, and overall stability. I knew going into it that I would NOT be experiencing the same level of smoothness but oh boy...it almost makes me want to return the whole kit. Seriously DJI really? You ship a controller (btw NO OTHER OPTION as in to order without a controller at all or the original kind that came with the MA2s) that has nothing but problems with your flagship drone makes me rethink things. Switching cameras is a choir and without fail it will skip a lens, the lag when it comes to switching between shooting modes, changing various settings....man I miss the Go 4 app! They seem to be dumbing things down which is fine for the beginner drones but give us pros (with your PRO GEAR NO LESS!) a pro option! Honestly if I wasnt 4 days over the return period, I would return it and buy it used without a controller and just use mine from the MA2s. Seriously the controller for the P4P 2.0+ might not be as slow as this, but I can fly way more confidently with it. When chasing tall ships or other moving subjects, I cant be waiting on the damn controller to finish taking its nap before switching lenses! From what I have read the Pro controller suffers from the same lag and or overall sluggishness....shame. This single purchase has made me never want to purchase an "all in one " controller from them ever again. Oh and before someone says "but wires and the risk of a phone call!" - lol wires? One wire? Deal with it. Risk of a call? Change the mode of your phone so calls go right to VM! Good video.
I debated on the pro as well when I bought my Mavic 3 Pro and so far all the comparison videos I’ve seen have basically all said the same…..it has nicer features but really isn’t necessary so I went ahead and bought the bundle with the Pro 😂 better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it 🤷🏻♂️
agreed another thing I forgot to mention is the RC Pro will do better in heat since it has a fan inside, might be good depending on where you are located
I don’t think there’s any reason to buy one now as it appears to have been abandoned I am in Texas now and the pro is a must otherwise I can’t see the screen much of the time you actually have the other controllers just don’t have enough lumens to overpower the sunlight
I couldn't be happier with the RC Pro, except for one thing. The control sticks. So awkward to store in & remove from the recesses. I've dropped one at least half the time I've used them. So I resorted to controlling without them and my frustration level has dropped 1000% without any loss of fine control.
Can't lie, now the RC2 is out, with the main benefit of having an HDMI port on it, and for some, being able to access the internet on it, it does seem a little over priced now
A big failing for the RC unit is demonstrated by doing a simple "climb and reveal" move. If you want horizon control, then altitude, gimbal tilt and aircraft slew (pan) must ALL be controlled with your left hand (using the LH joystick and LH thumbwheel). This is unnecessarily difficult. Worse, if you DON"T want to pan during the move, you must be careful not to invoke it with your extremely busy left hand. If gimbal tilt (thumbwheel) could be moved to the RHS, you could use both hands for this common move, requiring a lot less dexterity and resulting in far fewer botched takes. If the RC Pro can do this, it'd be darn near worth it for that function alone.
The RC Pro doesn’t have Remote ID which is required for the new regulation. It does work with DJI simulators but the other one doesn’t work. Therefore we have both, my son use RC pro for practicing with the simulator.
when you consider you can buy a highend smartphone nowadays with 2000nits or more.... which is double the brightness of the RC Pro for less money. then the only reason to buy the Pro is the better range over the regular controller.
I bought the RC for Mavic 3 and the signal was horrendous ! my iPhone was better on every front, the screen brightness, the touch screen was horrendous on the Rc ..you press everything two or three times .. I Used to have RC Pro 01 ..that was very good ..sent my back and went back to iPhone 13
Im probably going to upgrade from the rc to the RC Pro as the RC is ust unbearably laggy. It takes 3-4 seconds just to switch modes, lenses and even take a photo. Not to mention you cant scroll smoothly or change manual settings in pro mode quickly because its simply just too laggy.
There is one, and only one deal breaker for my use when it comes to the RC Pro. And that it the screen size. It would be so worth it to me if that screen were at least as large as say, a Samsung Galaxy S8. Not huge, but decent. How DJI can charge that ridiculous amount of money for a controller that is about the same as the standard RC is beyond comprehension. Heck, even Autel has a much larger screen on the high end remote. And Tripltek, if you're listening, if you made a tablet that wasn't so extremely fat and bulky, but with a 10 inch or larger screen, I'd be all over that. I guess for now I'm relegated to using my Galaxy S8 with a sunshade.
I love the RC controller, best value. I hope I´ll never fly again with my cell as screen, it annoyed me from scratch (there was no choice the I got my first drone, the mini 2)
@@JakeSloan I usually use both actually…. I like the RC when i want to go light weight… and i got the RC Pro to do heavy duty work… lol RC-mini3Pro DJI RC Pro- Mavic 3 Org. Now with the new release of Air3 that would be 3 controllers…. I dont know lol
hahahahahaha I was thinking as I made this video: "why am I making this video??? everyone already bought these" I'm sorry Im so late getting it out there to tell you
Not sure what to make of your comparison. I say this because I watched another drone-meister do as range test and he found that the RM330 (RC) out performed the RC Pro by a significant amount -- RC max range (test) = 3.6 km whereas complete loss of signal(s) by RC Pro = 2.5 km. Tester was flying at high altitude with clear LOS (sparsely populated tall hill country). I am interested in resolving these disparate findings as I am having a dang time with my RC & Mavic 3! I'm only capable of 2.2 km max, over water!! Thought the Pro RC might be the answer, but I am not convinced at all now. Also, never read, seen, heard of anyone geting the 30-km range value (per DJI). Heck I would love just 10 km! Cheers Jake! ref. ruclips.net/video/S0uoxhT60Go/видео.html
well the reality is either one of these remotes will far exceed your ability to see the drone and stay legally flying by staying within line of sight. lol
Just a note... its not a problem with android devices my man. Your problem is with Apple devices. Those of us who do not use ANY apple devices do not EVER run into this "Android/WindowsPc-Apple/Ios" headaches all you Apple people have. So to say its "a thing with all android devices" would be incorrect perspective, because the "Thing" is actually with Apples ecosystem as a whole. Been a long known thing since 2007 when Apple first popped up in the game and people realized they couldn't Easily just put Mp3's on their phone like android owners could, they had to buy them on itunes...
And so, bottom line. If you want to go the distance? Then. Instead of an additional $900 for the Pro Remote. If you were to get the, Standard Remote. That does not have the built-in viewer. And you have to use your cell phone/smartphone as your viewer. That has the external antennas. And you can put antenna boosters on. And that saves you a boatload of money. If you don't need the additional features that the Pro Remote, has. But want the extra distance. And so you did not cover that aspect. And does the standard Mini 3. Not the Pro, version. But the standard version. What kind of remote does that come with? I have not looked into the DJI websites, recently. Find out what remote that model is packaged with? And/or the non-viewer remote is an additional, cost-saving, option? But you do lose some functions. It all depends on what you need. You might want to have both type remotes? To go the extra distance. If you lose visual sight of it. And don't want to lose the signal. That would be the alternate way to go. And so for most. The Pro Remote is a common needless expense. For a Professional, though? It's something you would get. Something you would have. For its extra features. And then no excuses.. Clients don't like excuses. I haven't gotten myself one of these things, yet. But I've been planning to. In my retirement now. And yeah. It'll likely be one of these Mini 3 Pro's. As they do look great, don't they? But hey for that matter. Even the, Mini 2SE,, still looks great at 2.7 K. Most people can't see the difference, anyhow. Only when we get OCD does it matter. I never get that. I'm a Professional. I just do everything right. And everything looks and sounds great. It's the only way I can deliver it. And so this was a great video. Thank you very much. You verify my decision. Thanks. RemyRAD

I think this was the sony a7sIII in s-cinetone
@@JakeSloan I have three a6600s that I bought 3 years ago in hopes to get the A7 S3 as my main camera later but never did and then I realized recently there's the FX3 that I would prefer and then it was like oh I can just get the FX30 so I got that last week and I'm learning how to color grade finally. Once I get comfortable with this camera then I'll probably get the FX3 and just shoot with those two instead of the a6600s. I can't wait to get a full free camera for once but this FX30 is an awesome step in that direction and great way to get my feet wet I think I hope anyways
Thank you for taking the time to produce this piece of content. I will stick with the DJI RC.
you're welcome!
Mucho Mahalo Amigo
the screen response on the RC pro is considerably better
Same for me.
Mr Sloan RUclips God. I have just literally seena boxed Air 3 this means in my humble opinion you have one already 😳Cmon what's the spec of they cameras 🙏🙏🙏
lol I wish
Thanks, got the RC Pro on a FB purchase and was wondering if it was worth adding the RC to the arsenal.
NICE and yes it is if you fly in bright conditions or need the HDMI out
Hi Jake. Great video. I got in on that Air 2S bundle with the RC Pro a year ago as my first drone. The Rc wasn't out yet. Now I use it with the Mavic 3 as well. Never did like the idea of using a phone for my FPV.
thats great Jim!
That HDMI out is very handy on RC Pro.
Awesome comparison, Jake.
it is and works with FPV goggles if you have some with an HDMI in!
@@JakeSloan Very cool! I didn't think of that use case.
In the Uk the Rc signal strength is horrendous
I think you might have slightly better luck with the Rc pro but due to transmission power limits in Britain and the EU your signal strength will always be much less than North America
Looking forward to the new Rcn2 reviews
your shots are from ALASKA!!!!! i'm in Seward! thanks for the awesome controller review! very helpful!
Awesome! I love Seward, I don’t get there nearly as much as I like to. It such a beautiful place
@@JakeSloan I’ll add you on IG! If you ever need a warm place or a dry place to charge batteries or join you on a hike lemme know!
You're saying both remotes allow you to update your home location?
yes but you will usually have to tether to a phone to get accurate maps
@@JakeSloan Thanks. Offline maps won't work?
It will be interesting to see if DJI has done anything more than add external antennas to the RC-2, such as a brighter screen and enough RAM and system memory to install an app or 2. Im not expecting a huge change, though. Adding the antennas is tantamount to admitting the range weakness of the original RM330 in any case.
I'm very curious to see what improvements there are on the RC-2!
When is it coming out? I don’t see anything on it online.
Hi Jake. I want to ask did you find any difference in live view quality?
The Rc pro is less laggy
can you dim the screen of the RC Pro?
Yes you can
Thanks for this very helpful video.
Thanks again for this helpful video.
glad to hear it was helpful
Thank you Jake, this information help me a lot on the decision to what i need to buy.
awesome!
You should do a review on the a7r v .
I am working on it!
6:14 that's interesting. I've always used Android File Transfer to connect to Mac, unless I'm using an sd card.
hahahahaha I haven't tried that
@@JakeSloan I feel like I missed something. Lol here's the link if you actually have not heard of it.
www.android.com/filetransfer/
But with the O4 transmission system being introduced by the AIR 3 (any time now) it will make the RC PRO $1,200 obsolete... or will it?
I doubt it
@@JakeSloan Hope you are right, because if RC2 is not sold seprately, I will purchase RC PRO
I did go into the RC and it has 1gb of storage but is locked down by DJI. I hope the RC2 can have 3rd party apps but i doubt it.
that would be cool
Thanks for the comparison
You bet
At this point in time. Just wait for the DJI RC 2 to be released next week, than do the comparison. I have no idea 🤷♀️ why I am seeing video options this late in the game between the DJI RC and RC Pro? Want apps? Use your phone.
DJI RC will most likely have a better display and will have the external antennas nipping the range complaints in the butt.
agreed, I made this video because people kept asking me the question... I will probably make another when I can get a RC2 in hand
When it comes to file transfers I was shocked and disappointed to have the same problem when I got my first iPad to fly with. I ended up transferring files I think to an sd card, then a card reader and then plugging it into the iPad or some convoluted thing. Totally hate it
yeah I wish they would make it easier
I have the first version of the DJI Smart Controller that I use with my Mavic Air 2. I use the Smart Controller's HDMI out with a couple of different goggles and it was worth the buy to get the HDMI out.
Definitely for goggles it's worth it!
The Pro seems twice as good as the RC, but not 4X as good as the price suggests.
pretty much
I sold my RC PRO for DJI RC because i prefer stick stiffness, weight and battery life of DJI RC. But i still miss bright screen of RC PRO. I saw leak photo of DJI RC2 with external antenna. If it have a same brightness of RC PRO. I might upgrade. BTW #7:31 you should say RC PRO.
haha good catch
I use the HDMI port on my Phantom 4 pro plus for my skyzone goggles. If the RC had the HDMI out I would stick to that, but I love flying with goggles. You can see everything so much clearer.
very good point and a great use of the HDMI I always forget about!!
Hey Jake, could you go over livestreaming in a future video?
Hmmm I’ll have to see about doing that
Thanks for getting right to the damn point!
you're welcome
Thanks!!
Yes
lol
Good video.
Thanks! I agree the lens switching issue is big and I wish they would fix it
I debated on the pro as well when I bought my Mavic 3 Pro and so far all the comparison videos I’ve seen have basically all said the same…..it has nicer features but really isn’t necessary so I went ahead and bought the bundle with the Pro 😂 better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it 🤷🏻♂️
agreed another thing I forgot to mention is the RC Pro will do better in heat since it has a fan inside, might be good depending on where you are located
@@JakeSloan definitely a great feature living here in Texas…lol
Dji RC 2 is about to drop with the new Air 3, can’t wait.
I cant wait to see that either
It will probably be O4 and not compatilbe with current Mavic line. i hope I'm wrong.
This is so much nice for vlogging
It really is!
I don’t think there’s any reason to buy one now as it appears to have been abandoned
I am in Texas now and the pro is a must otherwise I can’t see the screen much of the time you actually have the other controllers just don’t have enough lumens to overpower the sunlight
Agreed. I’m hoping for an updated pro version once the mavic 4 drops
I couldn't be happier with the RC Pro, except for one thing. The control sticks. So awkward to store in & remove from the recesses. I've dropped one at least half the time I've used them. So I resorted to controlling without them and my frustration level has dropped 1000% without any loss of fine control.
that is annoying, I actually use aftermarket sticks that I much prefer...
You can buy a storage case for the Pro that lets you leave the sticks on and not take them off and on.
For me the best reason to get the RC Pro is for software like Drone Deploy, Dronelink or Litchi
agreed
I received the DJI RC PRO free when they ran out of the basic controller and gave me the Pro at no charge when I bought the combo. Lucked out!
WOW lucky you!!
Can't lie, now the RC2 is out, with the main benefit of having an HDMI port on it, and for some, being able to access the internet on it, it does seem a little over priced now
a bit but for many of us the HDMI out is a must have unfortunately
If the RC Pro can do this, it'd be darn near worth it for that function alone.
true it would be nice to be able to re-map a few of those controls for more coordinated movements
I love the RC with the Mini 3 Pro but will likely buy the RC Pro just for fun, the DJI website lists 'refurb' ones for under $700.
definitely
The RC Pro doesn’t have Remote ID which is required for the new regulation. It does work with DJI simulators but the other one doesn’t work. Therefore we have both, my son use RC pro for practicing with the simulator.
The RC Pro will have remote ID when it's needed, they just haven't turned it on yet
when you consider you can buy a highend smartphone nowadays with 2000nits or more.... which is double the brightness of the RC Pro for less money. then the only reason to buy the Pro is the better range over the regular controller.
true and with the new RC2 there is even less reason
the problem with these kinds of reviews is they're cursory, talking about all the features but not demonstrating how to implement them.
I show you to implement most of them when I show how the drone is setup...
I believe you are in Europe and with the transmission power limit regulations there it would give you much worse performance!
@@JakeSloan ah right .. how annoying
Im probably going to upgrade from the rc to the RC Pro as the RC is ust unbearably laggy. It takes 3-4 seconds just to switch modes, lenses and even take a photo. Not to mention you cant scroll smoothly or change manual settings in pro mode quickly because its simply just too laggy.
thats an excellent point
7:31 I think Jake got the RC and the RC Pro reversed
hahahaha good catch
After the 25th, now we the RC Pro owners have a question, wait for an update will be controlling the Air3, or sell...
agreed and I will have comparisons coming soon
Correction the RC actually has 8GB storage capacity built in but it is still best to insert a microSD card.
agreed
I do wish it was a little bit larger too!
They have to make it more simple for old people too many gadgets lol
lol
I love the RC controller, best value. I hope I´ll never fly again with my cell as screen, it annoyed me from scratch (there was no choice the I got my first drone, the mini 2)
agreed!!
Muito show o DJI RC Pro 🥹🤩
definite
The cheaper DJI RC needs HDMI out and this would be great.
that would be great
I got both 😅😅😅😅
Nice!
@@JakeSloan I usually use both actually…. I like the RC when i want to go light weight… and i got the RC Pro to do heavy duty work… lol
RC-mini3Pro
DJI RC Pro- Mavic 3 Org.
Now with the new release of Air3 that would be 3 controllers…. I dont know lol
I use dji rc pro as a tablet.
I loaded a bunch of apps on it.
something rc can't do
True
Now you tell me. 🙄
hahahahahaha I was thinking as I made this video: "why am I making this video??? everyone already bought these" I'm sorry Im so late getting it out there to tell you
Not sure what to make of your comparison.
Cheers Jake!
ref. ruclips.net/video/S0uoxhT60Go/видео.html
well the reality is either one of these remotes will far exceed your ability to see the drone and stay legally flying by staying within line of sight. lol
@@JakeSloanI can only hope some day such becomes true. For now, RC & drone requested to be shipped back to DJI for evaluation/replacement.
Been a long known thing since 2007 when Apple first popped up in the game and people realized they couldn't Easily just put Mp3's on their phone like android owners could, they had to buy them on itunes...
good point
No.
yes,
this is a fun game...
first!!!!!
nice!
SCREW DJI.
USE OTHER BRANDS
would be nice if more brands were able to compete
So make your own
And so, bottom line.
Thanks.
RemyRAD
Thanks and I would not buy a drone just yet, rumor has it DJI will be releasing a new drone in the next few weeks with a new remote as well
