I have this very Viper, bought it in Alexandria, MN and drove it 1300 miles home to MD in the rain. Was comfortable and warm but I was afraid of the wet highway and the 20 yo tires. Made it fine.
I have an all black gen 3 coupe. Having owned it and worked on it I’d be confident to say it’s the best super car period, if you factor in cost of ownership and ease of maintenance. If you have a car lift that can go low enough, you can literally do all the maintenance yourself. Vipers are extremely respected everywhere by everyone, prepare to get a lot of attention everywhere you go. Keep your eyes open on private party you can pick up a viper like this guys for 30-40k which is a steal considering what you’re getting, compare that to the equivalent Porsche or lotus (which I love too). I had to daily drive my viper for several weeks including road trips because my saab broken, and there was very little draw backs from what I could tell. If you got the money then just buy it before they’re all gone. Cheers!
Always had a poster of a gen 2 gts blue/white stripe and loved them so much I decided to buy one. Yea, interior is cheap, but that lopey cam is amazing. Drove mine 7 hours and it definitely got to my back and bum. Didnt really play during that trip, but it got an all time high for me of 22mpg!

Internals are NOT forged. I've owned 4 Vipers and have to say the 2nd Gen GTS is the most rare and fun to drive and HAS FORGED internals 96-99. I have a 2006 Viper GTS with 1000HP and it is more solid and better interior. But my old 2002 Viper was better looking a quicker 1-100. Peace
silver viper 2002 Viper was very quick because it had a smaller supercharger and how it was tuned and mapped. 2006 Viper has a much larger supercharger and takes time to spool up. It’s also to the map differently more high-end.
I always wanted a 4th generation Viper, but time passed and I own 2015 TA 2.0 ... But I still think about the 4th generation, I hope I'll buy it too...
Many believe that the heart of this beast is a Lamborghini design, which is not true. This is a 2v per cylinder traditional pushrod with 10 cylinders. This design is based off of chryslers la engine design. Chrysler/Dodge sent the iron block engine to have it aluminum casted by Lamborghini, but the design remained American. I think Chrysler/Dodge sent the car to Lamborghini for casting because it was CHEAPER than figuring out the engineering of the casting themselves. Pushrod engines are reliable, especially these. They are cheap to maintain and parts are still available. The internals are fairly strong, but not forged. They produce a lot of power under low boost when supercharged because of the compression ratio, but 800hp is about the limit. The Viper is expensive to modify, but it's very reliable even when modified. The Viper is a beast and a very special car.
All true. The iron block v10 was a truck engine recast by Lamborghini because Chrysler owned them at the time. Talk about delegation at its best. You are correct the internals were not forged, but pushrod design isn't complicated and extremely reliable. One of the reasons Chevrolet continued using 2 valves per cylinder for so long in the most used engine swap LSX engines.
I have now owned it for over 5 years and still love it! Its rare here in America. I could imagine one in Italy you'd see more Ferraris and Lamborghinis then vipers! Cheers.
@@tommyjeanstrue bought mine summer of 2016. Love that thing! I hear you, making videos is crazy time consuming. Good to see vipers on RUclips tho. Especially the srt10

Great video, thanks! So I'll be buying one in a few months, and agree with you to look nationwide for just the right one... was planning on shipping if it's too far away, but it sounds like it's not too bad on a ~20 hour drive? other than not finding a hotel, how loud / uncomfortable is it with the top up on such a long drive?
Glad to hear it. I will have had my viper for 6 years next month and still love going out to the garage and just staring at her. It's not a bad road trip car at all. Ive had only a few mechanical issues in this time with the viper. Much less then most of my buddies with other exotics. I would say there is a drone definitely, not overwhelming however. After market exhaust will make that louder of course. Also no cruise control so be prepared for that. The seat is pretty comfortable but just like anything else. After sitting for more than 5-6 hours your bum will need a break. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect one for you!
@@tommyjeanstrue 6 years. some could drive 10,000 miles some could have 90,000. Do you feel the difference? Never state the years without miles; it's not a human; the MILES matter the most.
I recently bought a 2004 Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG. I like the car a lot but, it’s not my ‘dream’ car. And the book value on it has deprecated tremendously! When my money is right I will be buying a 3rd Gen Viper in the near future.
I am actually 6'2" the fit in the car is fine, however they do make a lowering kit for the seat if you'd like to be lower. I believe you can gain an additional 2 inches with the kit. What you need to worry about however is getting into the car when there is another car parked next to you. Having to climb over the exhaust turns you into a contortionist.
About to buy a new car. And a viper exactly like this except it’s red. But just want to know since you own one. Is it fast? Can it compete against Camaros from this year or and sports car? I’ve driven many exotic cars and been to speeds 160+ street racing with other people. Is the viper good for street racing going through traffic? Cause I know it has no traction control so to me I think it would lose control… you tell me. You’re the one who owns it. Also do you think it can get tuned to 1000+ Hp?
Honestly it really depends what you are racing. Check out my youtube channel for answers to most of these questions. This car is very capable and still holds its own. Electric cars and anything with more hp will do what you expect them to do against it, however there is a full supercharger kit available from Paxton to take you close to that 1000hp goal. These engines are extremely durable and hold boost well, you can expect good riliability over 800whp from the stock block. Again check out my channel for some really great races. Good luck in your decision! 👍

True, corvettes do a great job of holding their value. Better then any other Chevrolet. However I did cross shop both Corvettes and Vipers when I originally bought mine.
