I love them all. I shopped Silverado ZR2 (76k), Sierra AT4X(82k )and AT4 (72k), Silverado High Country (71k) and Finally LTZ Silverado w/ Z71 package (64k). My first choice would have been AT4X but would have settled for the AT4 and almost bought it but dealer was still stiff arming me with the Trade for my 22 Tundra. I went with the LTZ since it was the most affordable AND the dealer gave me what I paid for the 22 Tundra a year prior AND I got 2.99% APR AND there was no “add ons” no “mark ups” not a single fee other than 300.00 dealer fee AND I got a life time powertrain warranty that also includes transmission. It was the deal I was seeking and couldn’t say no to. I got everything I wanted and saved thousands over the other deals. GMC Sierra is awesome but it is for the more “luxury” buyers. If money didn’t matter I would have the AT4X period. Like the general pool of truck buyers though, money does matter and therefore I’ll always have the Chevy. The more you spend on it the less you’ll want to “use” it anyway. The Silverado will work, the Sierra would shine like a Diamond in my drive way while I worship it’s beauty and pridefully pretend like I drive on mountains made of gold.

@@corydelbiondo5773 Well it’s a bunch of little things that add up to a desire to be back in a GM truck. The seating position is better and more upright. The hood doesn’t blind me with glare from the sun. I love the radio controls on the back of the steering wheel. The remote start stays on when doors unlocked. The radio also stays on when truck is turned off till I open the door. The auto start stop button is easily within quick reach. Heated steering button is ON the steering wheel. Infotainment system is tilted towards me so it’s easy to see without glare. Larger windshield for better visibility. “Auto 4x4” for those snowy days where you don’t need 4x4 all the time. Tighter turning radius making it easier to park in a pinch. Also option for V8 or Diesel. List goes on. Metal bumpers instead of plastic. Rear bumper steps. Tow hooks. Crossing my fingers that by switching back to GM I'm not sacrificing too much reliability. Everything you mentioned and a few other things are what I also agree on. Hey Tim, as always, love your videos. I had originally ordered a 2022 refresh GMC Sierra Denali (with Max Towing) and the Duramax. What GMC neglected to tell me until just before the truck arrived (6 month wait) that I couldn't get the Max Towing on the Denali ... so I walked away from that truck (a bit pissed). In Sept of last year, I ordered a 2023 Chevy Silverado High Country, with the Duramax and Max Towing. After a month, I inquired about the order .. and the dealer told me that Max Tow was on constraint, and they had no idea when I would get my truck. So ... I promptly cancelled that order. So frustrated with GM, I finally started to look at other options .. and finally picked up a used (very low mileage) 2019 Ford F150 Lariat, with the 3.5L Ecoboost and Max Towing .... I couldn't be more happy .... it is meeting my current towing needs. Yeah, it's not new .. but it was also almost $25K-30K less than what I was going to spend on the GMC or Chevy. So, this Ford will suit my purposes for the next few years until either GM gets their act together, or I totally fall in love with Ford and order a new F150. Time will tell.

Although, I would get a lesser/different package (off road focused), but maintain all the features if that makes sense. Love the in-line diesel engine. For now, as I continue to drive on top of places like Imogene pass, Hurrah pass etc. I’ll stick with the power wagon… which incidentally does have the camera, rearview mirror, adaptive cruise control, heated/ventilated seats, large screen, upgraded audio system, etc. But that GMC sticker price, could likely not get passed that. I feel very fortunate I paid a reasonable price for my 2021 PW, which I ordered November 2020 (6K under sticker discount). If I ordered the same truck today, roughly $13,500 more (my discounted price vs. todays MSRP). High end trucks today is not affordable to the average working person as you mentioned, that is for certain.

I was going to get a 2022/23 Silverado but due to the dealership shortcomings (lack of communication mostly, plus wanting $2k to put the order in) I ended up canceling that and ordering a Sierra 1500 Denali (not Ultimate). I don't want a sunroof in my truck. Which removed the Ultimate from consideration. Added the technology package, and went with the 6.2L v8 (hella FUN!). Took about four months for it to get into my hands with ALL the features included. Nothing removed due to chip shortages. 😁
I really do like the interior styling for the top GMC trim levels. Silverado is the same across all trim levels (IMO, fail on Chevy side). The better suspension in the Denali line was also a draw for me. I don't go off roading with my truck, so the improved road ride quality is greatly appreciated.
I ended up going with a lease on the new truck to get my payments even lower than for the 2020 Silverado LTZ Z71 I traded in. Changed insurance companies and my total cost is about $200 less per month for the Denali.
At this point I cannot see ever going with a lower trim level truck. With the issues I faced with the Chevy dealership (I'm not the only person) and how great the GMC dealership was, I've switched. While the Chevy trucks are lower sticker price, I fully believe that you get more truck value with the GMC trucks. Especially with the Denali trims. I also appreciate how the quality of people working at the [local] GMC dealership just seem to be at a higher level of professionalism when compared with the Chevy dealership. While there ARE good people working at the Chevy dealership, there are ones that also fall short. My last two truck purchases at the Chevy dealership were not of the same level (sales person) as the first one I went through.

The High Country 1500 is available with four different suspensions. It comes standard with the Z82 tow package that most GM trucks have, but is available with Z71 off-road suspension, NHT max towing suspension, or Z45 adaptive (not magnetic) ride control suspension. Denali and Denali Ultimate 1500s come only with Z45. They all share the triple-sealed (two sets of weather stripping on the door, one on the body) inlaid doors, so the only major noise differences come down to tire choice.

    • @GotronFerret

Also worth noting, as of the 2023 MY, for the Silverado, the only way to get adaptive suspension is to option the 22" wheels, which is dumb since they kill the ride. The Denali offers Magnaride standard, meaning you can pair with 20" wheels. Otherwise you can pretty much option them about the same.
The GMC is a bit quieter. And yes, you do pay for those upgrades vs the Chevy. Especially when it comes to dealer discounts, which can make the Chevy considerably cheaper and a better value.

Late to the game here, but for anyone considering these two as 2024's the only features you get in an Ultimate that you cannot add to a High Country are that alcantara headliner (your truck and the ones I looked at in person were a hot mess of glue on the alcantara), the carbonpro bedliner (which seems incompatible with nearly every bed accessory/tonneau), the kicker speakers in the tailgate, and the more adjustable massaging front seats.
The only thing I want from that "can't have" list are the massaging seats for long highway drives. The difference in price would pay for a lifetime of massages...

I had been on the Chevy website "building" my truck (Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 diesel) off and on for a few months now but just recently I went on and it's no longer allowing me to select the "max tow package" option with the diesel - when I select it, it's telling me I have to switch to the 5.3 or the 6.2. But here's what's weird, when I go to the GMC website and do the exact same thing, I can still pick it with the diesel. I tried reaching out to Chevy through their virtual assistant messenger, but it was taking way too long to get a response. Do you have any insight on this as to what's happening? Thanks!

But I ordered it with the 3.0 diesel loaded basically with the same magnetic ride and super cruise. So it would be a better comparison to the ultimate Denali, only difference is massaging seats some materials on interior and the 11 speaker Bose system.

Couldn't find anything forever unless it was stripped down cheaper models now they are finally showing up. Mine was built 3-14-23. Another GMC dealer I found had the twin to mine in a Yukon XL I want to go look at to as a replacement for my 19 Suburban but he tacked on $10k on top of the sticker price so guess they can keep it but its pearl white just that one is the 6.2 my new truck is a Duramax. I had 5 tundras prior to the GMC, still have my 2017 Tundra Platinum. The GMC is a more comfortable and to many a better truck in almost every way. The big difference is the Tundra with 157,000 miles is still rattle free, tight and “drives” better than the GMC AT4. When I say drives better what I am referring is two major things that the Tundra has the GMC beat, turning radius, and throttle response. The GMC throttle response is what I would consider terrible. Tim please get your diesel to speed and then mash the pedal as you would if you needed to pass someone, the programming for the throttle response has a solid 2-3 second delay. No doubt the $72K AT4 is a beautiful truck but as soon as the new truck wow factor wears off after a few months you start looking at driving experience, the old Tundra beats it every time.

The Ultimate isn’t quite as comparable to the High Country as the standard Denali. I think if you compared the price and features that way, they’d be much closer in price for similar features.
I went with the AT4 over the Trail Boss because I got more features for a very modest price bump. I also couldn’t get the Multi-Flex tailgate on the Chevy but the Multi-Pro (same thing) is standard on the GMC. I like the AT4/Denali dash better, and honestly, I think it looks better-the Trail Boss has the dumb Trail Boss stickers on the bed and the taped on fake hood scoop and think the GMC looks more adult. The one thing I would have liked that I couldn’t get on the AT4 is the pearl white paint that can now be had on the Trail Boss.

@@carbb5760 I got the Duramax-first diesel I’ve owned (driven plenty) and I’m very pleased with it. It has effortless power and after about 1250 miles, I’m regularly getting well above EPA mileage. The first tank (which included lots of idling and test drives from the dealer, but only 8 miles on the odometer) averaged 24.1mpg, the second tank averaged an even 25mpg, I’m a little over 200 miles into the third tank and I’m averaging in the high 28mpg range. I have the standard bed and 20” wheels.
I am a bit surprised by the DEF consumption though. I’m 3 bars down out of 8 with only 1250 miles on it. If that usage amount continues, I’ll only get a little over 3,000 miles per DEF tank, which works out to 600mpg-that’s not towing.
I think the seats are the same as the High Country and Denali (different color of course) but because of the flat bottom, they feel a little firm-they could use some seat-bottom dishing to more evenly load your butt, but all of the Sierra’s and Silverado’s use the same seat shape. Another small gripe is the suspension, for being “off-road”, it still feels a little stiff and jittery over some bumps-18” wheels would probably help this some.
I like the AT4/Denali dash/console better than the standard Sierra’s and all Silverado’s. The 360 view, ultrasonic parking sensors, and other camera’s are all almost necessary because visibility in tight quarters isn’t the best, but with all of the assistance those features provide, getting into tight spaces is pretty easy.
It’s still new with few miles but so far, I’m really enjoying it and am thoroughly impressed.

Other than the diesel engine, a/c and maybe the multi function tail gate. I would be happy cranking down windows, cramping my foot on long hauls and two speed wipers. Bring back the manual stuff and lower the prices.

I prefer Chevy price over GMC prestige.

Had both and GMC is a bit nicer even though it's same.....just little things
But 10k? chevy all day long.....I dont see it even remotely......
I would tear up the interior of any of these which is why I sold my Ram Laramie.....
Have 22 RST and all the functions work....they did great job with new interior
My 6th truck since 2020 so very familiar with new gen GM trucks, my GMC elevation was best looking by far....and multi tailgate is bad ass....i do miss it.

Why don't cars all come with built in dash cams?

@@treborheminway3814 not saying I agree with that statement, but that’s what I hear back from automakers. They are all working on keeping prices down on volume trucks and are paying close attention to competitor’s pricing. It would likely be standard in higher end trucks, but not for volume trucks right now.

@@Pickuptrucktalk I guess I'll go aftermarket, just seems redundant when everything but a camera is already in the dash.

Neither too expensive, I paid 40k for my 2020 Toyota tundra TRD PRO and I thought it was too much 70k+ for new trucks now days are just overpriced.
