"Secret Empire" is a 2017 Marvel Comics storyline. This limited series event addresses the aftermath of the crossover event Avengers: Standoff! and the ongoing series Captain America: Steve Rogers, in which Captain America has been transformed into a sleeper agent loyal to Hydra and has been covertly setting the stage to establish Hydra as the main world-power.

It was great to see the captain America I grew up with in the late 80s show up again. He vanished again, which sucks, but those stories and that captain America will always stay with me.

We were bamboozled! But in a good way. I agree that this was a great story for the Capt.
I am glad that good old captain america is back and having hydra cap as his own seperate character can lead up to some interesting storylines between the two.
Though I wished that they did a better job in ending the event, maybe having the fight taking place in his mind or something, maybe have the two debating against each other.

The problem with Classic Cap coming back is he gave back the shield to Falcon. So he'll go back to another worthless shield that isn't his. Also he gave Mjolnir back to the unworthy Thor, Jane Foster. While in the text of the comic you also saw them give the shitty SJW heroes some kind of mystery power from Kobik so they can be like the originals, but slighty better. So they can shove them down our throats more.

Sam Wilson is dropping the mantel apparently since "fuck that shit", Memory Cap is going on a journey of self discovery because he's boring. And Hydra Cap will likely get held till the Maker does whatever he is doing. Having Reed Richards and Steven Rodgers be the main villains of Marvel for a while should be cool.

You really got my heart racing there. I honestly thought this was an accident or something.
But I figured since I'm so early I might as well thank you for still do Marvel despite the complaints. Some people don't like the changes, but even I know these are temporary, a means to an end, to shake up the landscape. I think some of them haven't worked out that great, but comics have to shift, and they can't just buy Watchmen like DC did.

A lot of people miss that this reaches back to Remender's run.
It's been a long character study on Steve Rogers.
Dimension Z showed one side of Steve (as a parent, protector, and positive influence) in a story where there are no other Avengers.
The next stage was Steve Rogers without his serum. Being an old man but still being the symbol he always has been. This teaches us that Steve is more than just a super soldier. He doesn't need the serum to be who he is.
Secret Empire shows that Steve Rogers is the pillar of the superhero community and that they trust him implicitly. They gave him supreme power without thinking twice about it because they knew he would never abuse it.
If the superhero community were not busy fighting themselves then HydrAmerica would have never happened.
I have to know how they reconcile those two Caps.
I've never seen so many people miss the point of a story so completely. Even Rob. Love the guy though I do.

'Evil cap' world seems better than the orginal marvel world.
Just let me explain myself. Regardless of the few sacrifices, 'evil caps' world seems so much safer than orginal marvel world where you would have heros/villians fighting every day and killing people in the background. I would rather live in that world than one where there are beings ( high level mutants, hulk, thor and such) that can kill million of people on their own.

Best video yet...this story of freedom versus control is why I love marvel. The only problem is I don't have the time to read them like that...but this channel keeps me informed. As a soldier I am a die hard cap fan and at first I was rabid with hydra cap...then I started liking his finality even though like the people in the 616 I felt something was wrong but what are you gonna do...but the return to form made me remember why I liked the old cap...awesome story marvel...hope we get hydra cap as a reoccurring villain.
So I'm guessing MARVEL (pointing at Nick Spencer first) doesn't want to evolve their characters with life lessen? , so they just hand pick a time-line ,pull that same character out from the past, and take the evolved character, turn that character into a Bad-Guy, so in other words their fighting with them-selves, How is it done in another "Cosmic impossible way", where again the Reader will be force to accept it and everything just goes back to What Marvel call Normal ?

He was worthy before cus even though he was doing bad things he was doing them for all the right reasons. And he believed in those reasons. After being tricked over and over again by those he thought were working with him, Sharon, the Mutants etc. And losing Madame Hydra and the cosmic cube he started t believe that maybe he wasnt so right after all. Or else he wouldn't be losing.
He changed a bunch since that time he took up the hammer. Before he was hesitant to kill his opponents. Now he just wipes their memories away.
Desu Or Die uh, did you even read issue 10? It specifically stated she used the fragment to alter the enchantment
i get what your saying & it that makes total sense from Steves perspective, but the only reason he was actually able to lift the hammer was because Madame Hydra led him to believe he could by altering the inscription with a cube fragment. He was unable to lift it in issue 10 cause Kobik reversed it back to its original enchantment, thus never have been worthy in the first place :)
And here I was thinking lifting Thor's Hammer had everything to do with one's own belief as to whether they thought they were worthy.
I know no one will like this , but I would like to see a storyline where all the dimensional changing items in the marvel comics are destroyed by Thanos . For example The infinity gauntlet , all the cosmic cubes , the ultimate nullifier galactus etc a real big change.
I like the Thor hammer thing in the end. IMO it represents the fact that Hydra Cap compromise too much to achiev his goal to the point that he lost fait in himself, even if he had noble ideals, he stoped following them. Classic Rogers never compromises (to a fault even), that's why he could lift the hammer in the end over Hydra Cap.

yup, in Deadpool #35 it was revealed hydra cap was imprisoned by shield(What irony would that be if cap and shield sentence him to being on ice)
Never gone from no care to hyped back to no care so fast. When cap said "here let me try" and picked up the hammer and beat nazi cap down. I got goosebumps man. Then he handed the shield over and gave the hammer back. All I could say was "status quo huh". So disappointing. Well you got me for a couple pages. I'll give you that.

What I mean is compare this to the first volume of Injustice.
Oh, really? Both Captain America and Superman become dictators. They're both the greatest heroes in their own universe. They both establish a regime with good intentions but lose their way at a pivotal moment (Superman when he kills Lex Luthor and Shazam and Captain America when Cap loses Elisa Sinclair AKA Madame HYDRA and Sharon tries to kill him). The Insurgency and the Underground try to fight and end their respective regimes. Both resistance movements are lead by longtime allies of Steve Rogers. Both regimes recruit heroes and villains to their cause (Thor, Punisher, Taskmaster, and Black Ant for Cap's case and Flash, Green Lantern, Bane, and Killer Frost for Superman's case). Heroes who aligned themselves with both heroes and their respective regimes defect when they realize the person they answer to and trust the most has gone too far (Thor for Cap's case and Flash for Superman's case).

Does the hammer's enchantment, or cosmic storm within the hammer, actually differentiate between knowledge of true self worth, and total arrogance?
Well, for me, Thor(Odin son) answers this question without actually answering it. He stopped believing he was worthy, so he wasn't. Yet and still, no 2 people in Marvel history have more of a "belief" in themselves than Tony Stark, and Victor Von Doom, yet neither of them can lift the hammer.
Is this some Thanos subconsciously believing themselves to be unworthy crap or what???????

Young Money eh, what they really boil down to is "Hey! An established character that I know and love says that a new character is super awesome so I should think so to!". Personally not my cup of tea, but if you dig it, more power to ya.
My thought on this is Marvel's way to re-invigorate Captain America. Yes, to give him a more skewed perspective in the public eye, kind of giving him a dark side without giving him a dark side to make him more interesting. Marvel seems to be trying to create a trinity of sorts like DC has. Captain Marvel is Marvels Wonder Woman, Captain America is Superman/Batman, and who is Batman/Superman? Not sure. Maybe Spidey. If Captain America is to be a representative of Marvel like Superman is for DC, he had to become more interesting, and I think, this is Marvel's solution, to a degree. It's a work in progress. But Marvel is definitely in need of booting their sales,, so.... yeah.

Great event nonetheless. I was interesting on a more lengthened conclusion with more meaning than just a quick final 2 issues in a 10 part issue series. It could have brought/borrowed ideas from Civil War down to Secret Empire. It could have been better with Hydra Captain America fighting the superhero forces together with his counterparts. It was horrible if not insulting that just because you have the comic cube shards you are omnipotent?!?! Why aren't the hulk and the rest of your Hydra team not fighting with you, Steve?!?! In about 14-16 issues with more deapth to both sides both the superheroes and the hydra resistance it could have been a cult classic. It just felt particularly flat during this issue review specially. Anyways, I enjoy your videos Rob and I hope you keep that Comicbook-Video Hustle. ✌

Hydra cap is the original body with a warped and twisted history. The Good Cap is the spirit and memory of the original placed in a new body.
You did not correctly explain on why Hydra Cap could not lift the hammer, the incantation was altered with a shard of the cosmic cube, which allowed hydra cap to lift the hammer in that moment, but the alteration eventually dissipated, returning to the original “if he be worthy” enchantment, that’s why when Hydra Cap tried to lift it, the narrator states that he was *never* worthy, but Classic Cap was
Has Rob even read the Secret Empire? Normally, I like Rob's videos, they even got me to start reading comics again. And I read the whole Secret Empire, and I have to say, Rob misrepresented several parts of it. Not just in this video, the previous one was also pretty bad in this regard. The way he explained it, it seemed rushed, he skipped over some very important points, and yeah, I get it, he can't include everything, but some of the things he said where just off.
Hydra Cap not being worthy anymore? He was NEVER worthy, it was Madam Hydra that used the cosmic cube shard to change the inscription on the hammer, and that's a very cool and interesting part of the story which he completely misrepresented. There where other parts like that, and for all the hype Rob had for this story, the way he told it, it looks like he didn't even read it, just skimmed true the images...
I respect the hustle but I'm never gonna like this story, it tells me they are running out of ideas because it's much too simple of a concept for me and just not believable. The concept of him being secretly evil for a very long time is just such an eye roll. Like okay the best most righteous man there is turns out to be the worst person there is😒😒😒ya right

It shows what happens if cap held a different view, then the good superheroes rally to the beliefs of original cap, and finally original Captain America himself comes in and delivers the finishing blow. have you read all the tie ins? i have and the majority of the tie ins did have something to offer the main event(irony is how civil war 2 was bashed for having tie ins that didn't offer anything to the main story but secret empire actually had to much reading material that ended up being important to the main story)

No Rob, you ignored the MOST important part of the story. When Hydra Cap picked the hammer up, his crazy reality warping witch mom changed the condition---whoever is STRONGEST wield the power of Hydra, rather than whoever is WORTHY wield the power of Thor.
