Dumb casuals like you think the serum made him a hero.. and the truth is it didn’t.. all it did was enhance everything already inside.. which is his unrelenting will power, his righteous moral code, he stands up for the weak, never ever gives up , selfless and self sacrificing for the greater good. I honestly like the sam Wilson captain America run. It felt like a natural, real graduation for Sam (kinda like nightwing and later batman were graduations for dick Grayson). I honestly wish marvel or dc would just have sidekicks replace their mentors and adopt new sidekicks (that new falcon kid springs to mind). They could even have super epic moments where the originals briefly step back in and they could easily place the originals in advisory roles or as mission control a la Batman beyond. Just seemed like a really cool dynamic that rarely ever gets used thanks to the marriage to the status quo comics have.

So when somebody defeats her and let's her live, she is kinda somewhat indepted to him. Also, Cap showed love to his son, while not killing her, so that connection is there. She just tries to deal with the limited worldview she was taught, colliding with a bigger world than she ever imagined. She wasn't properly indoctrinated. ;D So, it's her worldview and everything that is messed up, not her sense for love. That is perfectly normal, given her upbringing.
