      Leaving joke aside, having a good heat sink can keep your FPS stable. So hey, if you look at this that way, it still a plus.

    • @Pholiage

      Actually. With Boost 3.0 that is true. At least for Geforce cards. The card calculates a higher boost frequency with lower temps coming from a better heat dissipation and thus giving more fps

      yep, if remember back in the day they were the main one locking wifi cards the the mobo(on laptops), as far as oms go i prefer dell, the mobo and front io may be custom as hell but they seem to usually build the business stuff above spec and the worst ive seen is a custom psu pinout, a quick fix with a 24pin atx extender and a multi-meter, that and they are cheap as dirt

    • @woody4077

      nah his main problem was getting a "business machine" they are designed for very specific uses only not the "general" use that a non "business machine" is designed around.

      I just don’t understand why they build a computer with a few PCIe slot but not allowing people to use it, they should just go apple mode by not putting any slot but make the computer smaller or just make the pc upgradable.

    • @jaykoerner
      @jaykoerner 7 лет назад +2

      Stephen _L_S I don't think it locks everything out just gpus and it most likely wasn't even ment to lock those out it's likely a memory allocation error, but I could be wrong, but to fix that would require a bios update and he couldn't get it to work

    • @jaykoerner
      @jaykoerner 7 лет назад +3

      woody4077 a PC is a PC the only separation i see worth making is OEM, server and diy, OEM is hit or miss for upgradability, servers don't make any sense for consumers, and diy usually costs more on the low end and used market, I was.just saying I've had much better luck with dell workstations then anything from hp, the z400 was a pain for example it locked out half of my CPU options, while the dell t3500 actually allowed a slight multiplyer overclock and both the t5500 and t3500 worked with any cpu a put in, the only issues I had was with a dell t1600 since it would crash with a Rx 480 installed but I blame that on the pcie overdraw issue at the time and it worked fine with both a gtx 1070 and 970

      Lenovo does this crap as well. My old Lenovo desktop had massive restrictions (including but not exclusive to: a 14 pin, 180 watt, PSU) that prevented the "upgradability" they advertised on their website.

    The GT1030 is an awesome little card, but my main issue with it is people are seeing it as a fully fledged graphics card to go into their full tower gaming PC's when so many options exist offering not only better performance, but will generally cost even less...For SFF's like this the card is perfect...When it actually works that is. Great Video!

    Hi Bryan, if you come across some of these low profile HP computers, look out for the Elite 8300, ivy bridge series cpu's, and these have always worked out great for me. I've used one with a 1050ti for a few years, and before that it had a 730, then a 750ti. And they also work with sandy bridge cpu's. Easily recognisable by the stack of 4 usb 3.0 on the back

  • @Zesserie
    @Zesserie 7 лет назад +4

    Brian, as someone who have owned the same board it works, believe me with discrete graphics.
    the cupertino2 board i had, never came with the case(salvage stuff)
    My Radeon R9 380 had a bios switch, newer gpus has issues with the bios that HP uses. it's not a power issue at the slot.
    I even had a Rx 470 running fine when testing if the card worked.
    The key factor is the vga bios. AMD has(had?) a solution for it with the two bioses on many of their cards.
    there is no problem with slots power draw, if that was the case then how would a rx 470 work(which draws alot of power from the pcie)

  • @Astfgl
    @Astfgl 7 лет назад +10

    Geez that's a real bummer. When I put a GT1030 in a friend's HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF, it just worked straight away. No BIOS updates needed (though I did eventually update the BIOS to its latest revision) and Windows automatically installed a fairly recent Nvidia driver, after which everything ran smoothly. It may just be luck of the draw, or maybe the PSU in your Pro was crap, I don't know. It just sucks. It doesn't matter anymore now I guess.

    I just remembered I had a similar problem recently with nVidia driver on an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770 system. I put the latest driver in, rebooted and the video cut out (or so i thought). IN fact it switched to the on-board graphics, so i let it boot up, logged in, it did some more windows/driver updates automatically and after another reboot everything was back to normal, the nVidia video card was working fine again, with the latest driver. (this was an ASUS ROG MARS GTX 760 dual GPU card).

  • @ekinteko
    @ekinteko 7 лет назад +1

    I made a blog about this before, I told people to stay away from the HP model.
    I knew this was going to happen to you, when I saw your older vid but I figured you were going to take a different route to it (use it as a PC to power home cameras or something). The Dell Optiplex SFF are the way to go, as they have slightly more power from the motherboard, just enough to power a GTX 1050 Ti/750 Ti.
    The only way you can salvage that HP is to:
    1) either just use the wimpy Intel iGPU
    2) sell it as is, maybe get $200 for it if lucky
    3) salvage it for parts, selling it off or using them in other systems
    4) Take out the motherboard. Grab a dremel/grinder and cut some parts of the back of the case. Replace it with a miniITX motherboard (or anything that fits). Securing the motherboard using zipties, screws, superglue, and pieces of scrap metal/plastic as brackets. You also need some metal/plastic for the rear IO face. Then reassembling the PSU, CPU, box cooler, RAM, HDD, and CD drive. Then install Windows and do a fresh start (you can use $20 oem license keys off eBay, if your CoA sticker is faded). Now install your GT 1030 (this thing won't handle a 750 Ti/1050/1050 Ti... not sure about the GTX 750) and all should be dandy. Install the latest drivers, and Bob's your uncle. It can handle 1080p gaming, just don't expect higher than Low Settings and 25fps. If it does better like Medium-High on 50fps on certain titles, just see it as a Bonus.
    Good luck... and I think that's my car driving in front of yours, drive faster man.
    For anyone reading, if you want to grab a cheap Pre-built, I suggest you go for the Mid-tower models (where you can exchange the PSU to standard ones), or really do your homework on the SFF models.

    I've had a lot of luck with Dell Optiplex (380) systems, I've got my hands on a bunch of them with duo e7500's.
    I threw in various GPU's I had on hand so far I've tested GT 720, some strange proprietary dell cards (can't for the life of me remember what they are) and the Radeon HD 6450, I am currently running them on 8GB RAM and use them for various applications as windows deployment servers, file servers, and media centers.
    They seem to run nicely and are quite versatile, only problem I find is the onboard graphics chips tend to freak out a bit and they really don't like 1.5v RAM.

    an easy trick to get around locked bioses is a SPI programmer and 8pin SOIC clip. also if you look around a little you can normally find pin-outs to make a standard psu work in most OEM PC's. that said the SSF HP Pro 3300 uses a standard 300WATT ATX PSU.

    There are other options of graphics cards that offer even less power draw than the gt 1030 with GDDR5 (30W TDP) you were using. I'm curious if these would have worked. There was a new gt 1030 with DDR4 released in march 2018 that has less power draw (20W TDP) developed for motherboards that give smaller voltage. The gt 710 and 720 also offers some of the lowest power draw at 19W TDP

    $60 shipped for the pc
    $20 shipped for the Graphics card
    $33 shipped for the new 60GB ssd
    $0.00 for the OS. It had a windows 7 code on it so I used that to register a new install of windows
    I didn't buy it for gaming, but I really liked working with it. Good design, and great processor for the price. Other people have gotten 1050s to work in these machines. You might have a malfunctioning motherboard.

    If you want to write a new BIOS you can try to read the ROM directly with a device that makes contact directly with the pins. If the memory is hard locked you're screwed but if it's just a software lock you can bypass it with this method and write bit by bit the modded BIOS.

I put in a 250GB WD SSD and an MSI GT1030 and now I have a very nice little HTPC for my 4k television. This. GT 1030 requires UEFI. If you're running old BIOS it won't work. Nothing to do with HP, MB's or PSU's.
      The 750ti, on the other hand, probably locked up because it draws 70 - 75W vs 30W for the 1030. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the standard PSU in a SFF HP is no more than 240W.

    i know this may be an old video but, i had one of these types of HP models before, and i found out too that there usually isn't enough power to use graphics cards, but its not the slot that is the problem its the power supply, that motherboard pci express slot is the very same slot that we use from manufacturers like gigabyte, asus, asrock, but the power supplies are usually only rated around 200 watts, and i know this because my HP had a 220 watt psu inside of it, we all know video cards usually require a little more than that.

    I bought a GT1030 for a Dell Optiplex 755 DT. It turned out it was a bit too much for the system and I had stuttering and pops from High DPC Latency. So, I upgraded the CPU to a Core 2 Quad and added more RAM. 4gb to 8gb. I tried the system again and it was a High DPC Latency MESS. The card would perform fine UNTIL the Nvidia drivers were installed. I tried older drivers. I tried Windows 7 instead of 10. I even tried Windows Vista. The latency still persisted. After reading through websites for weeks, I found out that the GT1030's pascal architecture was incompatible with the Legacy BIOS. If I had bought a cheaper, older graphics card, it would have been fine. But, by this time, I was already at $150 invested in this project, so I gave up on it. It's just too frustrating. I spent WEEKS trying to get that latency fixed. It just refused to play nice. So, rather than invest more money in the Optiplex 755, it collects dust. Don't feel so bad about the failure. It happens to a LOT of us! You can only do so much with older hardware.

I have upgraded it to 2x4GB DDR3 ram, AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2GHz Quad core cpu, Gigabyte GT 1030 Low Profile 2GB and it worked flawlessly on the 220watt psu. I since also upgraded the psu to a 250watt model with more connectors for an additional SSD mounted inside. It plays games really really well. I play older and newer titles as Bioshock 1 and 2, GTA V, Singularity, Battlefield 3, Overwatch, Dota 2 without issues.
