The '21 CX9 was not on my original short list but after watching videos like this then reading the user forums I decided to at least take a look at it. So I test drove, a couple of times, most of the 3 row SUVs. The CX9 test drive convinced me. I realize there is a little less room on the inside, but I didn't mind that as much as the minivan feel of the the other brands, even though they didn't have sliding doors. I prioritized drivability and reliability over more room. But each buyer needs to establish their own priorities. I agree with the title of this video, the CX9 is definately the most fun to drive.
I just bought the CX-9 in very similar circumstances. This is definitely a fantastic purchase for drivers looking for a decent sized vehicle, willing to forgo some interior space for drivability / reliability.
Just bought my wife a ‘19 CX-9 touring and it is an amazing vehicle! Absolutely love the way it drives, looks, and love the quality material used. Feels luxury without the snob badge, my next car will probably be a Mazda as well

Do you also consider the CX-5? I'm struggling if I need the extra room (only 1 kid but the stroller is huuuge) or the convenience and "sportier" look of a slightly smaller SUV
Mazda could make the Signature version an RX-350 fighter. Just add power tilt and telescope steering wheel with memory, automatic power fold mirrors, and power retracting seat exit setting. Yes, not all of us need huge cargo or breathtaking acceleration stats.
How about some American Lux cars/suv's?? We drive a 2018 XT5 and a 2019 Lincoln Black Label MKC. By the way, the Lincoln puts the XT5 to shame in many area's. Would love to know what you think of the new models..................
You mentioned wind noise being great with CX-9. Have you tested Palisade or Telluride? I've read some complaints with Palisade, yet some say it's fine. You notice?
Mazda really missing the mark with the DRL and overall lighting on their vehicles, even economy cars have full LEDs these days both front and back, and you can buy cheap kits off ebay like so many kids are doing for their Hondas and Subarus, and here you have Mazda with their really good looking cars missing a crucial design piece, attractive LEDs, i know you can get the signature package to get some fancy lights, but its ridiculous to hide basic DRL LEDs behind the most expensive package, i mean Kia and Hyundai who are the main competitors are offering it on their lower trims, and interior ambient lighting too. Saw the new Tuscon next to the CX5 and when it came to the lights CX5 looks like ass compared to nice arrangement on the Tuscon. Sorry just my 2 cents, Mazda needs to stop being cheap and add standard LEDs with a pleasing style in the upcoming refresh, without it their cars just look outdated next to other new cars on the road.
What do you mean? Mazda’s CX5 and CX9 have standard LED headlights! Kia and Hyundai? They use halogens on their base/lower trims and only have LEDs on the higher trims! Sure the Signature LEDs/DRLs are upgrades therefore only on the top 2 trims but at least base and mid level trims have LEDS!
The CX-9 is a huge midsize SUV. At 199" in length only the Dodge Durango and Chevy Traverse are larger mainstream midsize SUVs. With that in mind it's especially striking that the interior space is the most cramped of all midsize SUVs. The 71.1 cubic ft of overall cargo space is not only less than every other midsize SUV including the KIA Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe that are almost a foot less in length than the CX-9, it's less space than a Honda's compact crossover, the CR-V! Passenger space is no better. The CX-9 has a total of 135.8 cf of passenger space. Again, less than any other 3 row crossover in the marketplace. The much smaller 2020 Sorento provides 154.2 cubic ft. The CX-9's powertrain is adequate but hardly outstanding. The 2.5L turbo and six speed transmission are standard or available in the Mazda6, the CX-5, the CX-30, and the Mazda3 with the same level of HP and torque and in each case far less weight to propel. All of this adds up to the slowest selling mainstream midsize SUV by a wide margin. With approximately 20,000 sold in the first three quarters of 2020, the CX-9 has sold less than half the number of units as the VW Atlas and Telluride and less than a third of the sales of the Palisade, the Hyundai Santa Fe and KIA Sorento.
@@mrdrooboiii8116 Reliability rankings are like horse races. The winner by a nose is no more a "winner" than the horse that wins by 17 lengths. Among the top ten RANKED automotive brands the actual incidence of reliability issues is miniscule. In fact, well over 90% of all owners of any new vehicle will experience no problems in the first five to seven years of ownership. Mazdas are very reliable but so are most other vehicles these days. And as the sales figures indicate, Mazda's highly ranked reliability does little or nothing to boost its sales.

All valid, but honestly who cares? If it’s spacious enough for your family that’s all that matters. If it’s not, buy something else. Interior cargo space is analogous to truck towing capacities. As long as a truck can tow what you need, who cares if it might not have the highest tow rating in its class? Same with midsize SUVs and interior volume.
@@jakes5530 Your point is well taken but the dismal sales of the CX-9 suggest it doesn't meet the needs of the vast majority of midsize 3 row SUVs. Furthermore, the massive size of the CX-9 makes its puny passenger and cargo space even more striking.

Wish the carbon edition came in other colors. I’m happy with my 17 Mazda 6.. The 6spd trans is great and more gears are not needed..

Are you sure it’s not a touchscreen? The infotainment in the cx5 has both the scroll and touch. That’s be a weird omission on their flagship.
Still a really good SUV/CUV, but getting a little long in the cycle. It's about time for a refresh and a more modern transmission.

You don’t need to add $1900 for AWD on the Signature trim, it’s standard. Regular fuel yields 228/311. Still quite punchy.
Can rear cargo covers be put in cx9?

Yes there's a bit of wind noise once you hit 50mph with the Palisade in my experience 👍

Strange. My sister in has a santafe and the third row is tiny. Seats very small in comparison. Comfortable for a adult in third row of the Mazda
