Good review! I'm curious why no reviewers ever mention Mazda was awarded the most reliable vehicle brand for 2020. I think it's worth mentioning that Mazda has been using the same parts for years. Yes, it has a 6 gear transmission but that transmission is going to be a lot more reliable than say a Nissan or Chevy.

I had a Mazda CX-9 for almost 7 years, and it felt brand mew to me every time I drove it. I LOVED IT so much! My husband surprised me with a Toyota 4Runner for our anniversary, and it felt like a downgrade. Tech, sound, navigation, and even space is a downgrade from the Mazda. The 4Runner has its positives too - safety and resale are unparalleled. I like the height on the 4Runner, but they’re far too common. I was talking to two different dealerships, and neither was ever able to get the exact model, color, interior, and package in the same car. They blamed it on the manufacturer having shortages, which is fair. And if I’m paying nearly $70k on a vehicle, it’s going to be exactly what I want. They did say that I could pre-Oder one, but I’d have to put down a deposit. My husband was hemming and hawing already, so that stopped the whole conversation. They’ve since come out with a CX-90 which I actually like better. It’s really just an updated CX-9 but it has a panoramic sunroof. Now, I have a grandchild, so I’m trying to decide between a CX-90 or a minivan. I go back and forth, but if I didn’t have a grandchild I’d 100% jump into a Mazda CX-90 as soon as I could order one.

I changed them with Vredestein Quatrac Pro; wet traction is phenomenal. Also the tires have less rolling resistance, hence MUCH smoother ride. Even my wife who is NOT a car person noticed the difference in the ride. ALSO, for those in snow country, the tires are Severe Snow Service Rated (mountain symbol on the tire). I don’t see why Mazda keeps getting hate for not having a touch screen. It works better, and makes more sense. If you want a touch screen then the screen has to be placed close enough to be able to reach which also means the screen is placed further into your peripheral view. Also, using a touch screen tends to require more coordination than using a knob which more precisely navigates through icons.
I recommend people who disagree to sit in something like a 2020 Corolla, then sit in something like a 2020 Mazda 3. You’ll see how putting a screen up close to the driver just so it can function as a touch screen is counter intuitive as less distracting Ux wise, and how it’s easier to adapt to a knob controlled infotainment system.

From someone with a 2020 corolla that I drive daily, the screen doesn't even distract you from everyday driving. At least they got physical buttons on its infotainment system, so your rarely touch the screen and secondly some of those controls are on the steering wheel too. The best comparison would have been honda civic ex model where everything is touchscreen. As for mazda I did test drive the mazda 3 GT and the know is very functional fine where it's placed.

I bought a 2021 Mazda CX-30 Premium AWD for my daily driver a few months ago and it also has the light colored interior. I have thought about passing my CX-30 down to my daughter and upgrading to the larger CX-9 myself, but two things stop me from seriously considering the CX-9 instead- the dark headliner which makes a vehicle seem more closed in, and the fact the the CX-9 in this beautiful light interior has both the center armrest and the door armrest/handles in the white also. I find it pretty easy to keep my white seats from staining in my CX-30, but anything your hands regularly touch should not be in such a white color. I would expect the armrests in that CX-9 to be irreparably stained within 5,000 miles. The armrests in my CX-30 are brown, and they should have done the same here in the CX-9.

Sure, they could add more gears... but I think it’s good enough that the only way it could get even smoother would be with a DCT. I have a 2018 CX-9 GT and 2 1/2 years later, I’m still in love. The 2019’s got additional sound insulation and yet mine is still remarkably quiet, something my passengers have noted. One thing reviewers don’t talk about enough is Mazda’s reliability. Even Consumer Reports is starting to take note. 41,000 miles later, no repairs other than regular maintenance. No squeaks, suspension rattles, nothing. Drawbacks: not as spacious as other 3 row SUV’s (but still spacious); well insulated, but still slightly gritty sound from the turbo 4. Pluses: confidence inspired driving; quiet interior; bulletproof reliability; STILL looks good after being introduced in 2016. My recommendation: buy one. You will not be disappointed.

Im curious what they will do in the future in terms of the EV competition if they dont update their tranmissions. Mazda makes great transmissions and I dont think they buy them from aisin or ZF like most of the market, hope they're prepared to showcase something new soon.

      Toyota's providing the EV components.
Toyota and Mazda are in such a close partnership we might as well call them married at this point, their building a massive factory in the us together to make both their vehicles. They also share tech with one another, Mazda is the only reason new Toyota's started handling sooooo much better then they did 10 years ago.
The Toyota Yaris 4 door sold in the USA is literally a re-badged Mazda 2 with a old Toyota engine dropped into it. The new Mazda 6 is apparently going into the entry luxury market with a starting MSRP around 34k and a top price expected to be around 50k, With that price bump its dropping FWD and moving to a RWD/AWD drive train, the 2.5L Turbo engine in the top trim is now going to be the base engine and the new top engine for the 6 is going to be that Turbo charged 3.0L inline 6 Toyota made for the Supra.
On top of all that Mazda was named #1 in reliability of the last 3 years in a row, becoming the first brand to de-throw Toyota in over 28 years. Mazda dose not deserve to be slept on as much as it is.

Not a creek, not a rattle, sure the engine doesn't sound as good as a Toyota or Honda V6, but that isn't what you're buying this car for. I think this should be a top choice if families are looking for a three-row SUV where they may not necessarily need the three rows of space.
